Cool. Gpu-Z didn't report the correct memory clock for me too. I just ignore it and and use MSI Afterburner instead.

another "fun fact" is that 3DMark 11 is not working now...no comment...

I searched some forums and all said that the issue might be .NET Framework and/or Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable. So I uninstalled both and reinstalled (using Windows Update which automatically detected that they are missing after restart).

That was when I run WEI and MSI Kombustor and got the improved results. So now I'm totally lost what helped, but I know that I'm not going to touch the drivers for a long time now...just for sure :)

No idea why your 3DMark11 not working now but i ran 2 tests with PowerPlay enabled and disabled.

    PowerPlay Off
    3DMark11 = P255
    PowerPlay On
    3DMark11 = P1567

I ran 2nd test with PowerPlay enabled after updated Futuremark Systeminfo and 3DMark11 detected it as Intel HD3000.

Well, that's interesting. Is really the system so sensitive about the fact if PowerPlay is enabled or not? I have "High Performance" set in PowerPlay for both scenario anyway...so in fact, it means nothing now, but for the system it apparently does...

PowerPlay is buggy in this system/driver... disabling it will fixed the core clock to 100 and mem clock to 150 instead of the stock 725/800. :D

    Hey xAcid9,

Did you overclock your GPU? I manged to run the 3DMark 11 again and I got 1414 and 1401 score. Yours was 150 higher, so wondering if you got your GPU overclocked. I have mine at default 725/800.

No, that was on default. Check the GPU score instead of total score.

Sorry if this has already been addressed but..

I recently changed my bios from 'dynamic' to 'fixed' so the dedicated gpu will be used when plugged in. however, when i transition from battery to ac, the screen flickers a few times.

is this normal? or is there a way to correct this?

    thanks in advance

Open CCC and untick "Automatically select power-saving GPU when on battery".
On "fixed" mode, the screen will flickers for 2-3 secs when u switch the GPU.

Today being Christmas, I got 3 new games for my laptop, a dv6t quad. In the past, i had heard about the switchable graphics issues, but the games that I had never had problems. I had been playing Team Fortress 2 and L4D2 for months, and no issues ever came up. I played in the highest settings, no lag, no problems.

But just earlier today, I got Bioshock 2, Portal 2, and Empire Total War for xmas. I installed Bioshock 2 first, and after 15 minutes, fired it up to play. A Bioshock 2 banner came over my screen, as if it would play, and then an error message came to the back, and froze my laptop. The error message read something about my graphics card not being compatible, and gave me a choice to select Yes or No at the bottom. The Bioshock banner blocked the rest of the message, and my laptop became frozen, so I couldn't select yes or no.

I then logged off, and logged back on, trying the same thing i did earlier. Same result, screen froze, and i couldn't move my mouse to select yes. I then fired up the dynamic switchable graphics thing, and selected bioshock and bioshock launcher, and set them to go under performance mode. Tried again, froze. I logged off, tried again, froze again with error message.

Now that I see that Bioshock 2 may be an issue, I am hesitant to download and install Portal 2 and Empire if this is going to be an issue. I had looked into the switchable graphics issue in the past, and it seemed to me as if it would not apply, seeing as the issue really only impacts non-directx games. But all 3 of these games are direct x, as well as the ones that work on my pc, but yet there seems to be an issue with Bioshock.

Can anyone speak from experience and offer any advice? Will I need to install the new drivers, and if I do, will that correct the graphics issue?

Has anyone noticed lower performance in games with static mode than in dynamic? Of course I made sure the 6770 is being used in both scenarios.

Asked what card would come in dv6tqe:
HP Rep: The model of graphics card is 1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6490M Graphics. 07:18:23
Asked which laptops come with 7690m or 6770m:
HP Rep: I've been told that the laptop could come with either the 6490M or the 7690M.
Asked her if she would buy a car if they told her it may get 20MPG or it may get 50MPG?
HP Rep: I'll forward your concerns to the web development team.

Anyway, next step call Sales to ensure I would get a 7690m, or just reinstate the NP8150 deal I had worked out ugh, budget vs overkill which path to take.

if you get 6770m or 7690m on the +$75 upgrade, well that's a deal. but somehow i find it hard to believe they dropped the prices on those cards. we'll find out soon. :)

I talked to three separate reps. The dv6t QE comes with a 6570M, the dv7t comes with the 7690M, and the dv6t SE comes with the 6770M if you get the 2GB option.

install DNA drivers (latest version is 8.882.2.3000). Make sure you install the whole package incl. Catalyst, Graphics Driver, etc. -> "Express" Install
AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver HP Pavilion dv7-6140eg Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (Malaysia - English)

then install AMD 12.1 preview driver (this is for WIN7 - 64bit) on top of that...choose "Custom" install and install "AMD Graphics Driver" only. This way you'll keep the HP provided Catalyst (I believe it is 11.11). It works for me this way.

Hey guys, this is my first post :)

I have an HP dv7 notebook with ATI Radeon 5650 with Intel switchable graphics. As we all know the display drivers from HPs website are outmoded.

I've looked into installing from ATI/AMD direct but I have had issues with compatibility since I have a switchable graphics unit.

I succeeded in installing 11.12 yesterday (I used driver sweeper and installed HP drivers then installed 11.12 over it). I tried out some games and they seem to run okay.

I have one issue, however. When the battery dies on the notebook, and I plug AC power it wont come back on. I know this is a graphics driver issue. So the 11.12 I installed isn't quite the perfect fit.

So I would like to know what I could use instead. I'm looking for the latest driver out there with minimal conflicts I could run my games on, thank you.

    JayElect.

    Hi,

I am a new owner of a dv6t-6c00. I have gotten any drivers I could from the HP website, but I feel like I'm out of date! Is the HP website frequently updated or what? Specifically, I thought switchable graphics could be put in a fixed mode, but mine are not. I tried to install some AMD drivers and it said my hardware is not supported. I am currently using a 7690m xt. I've looked at this forums' BIOS thread and this thread, but I'm afraid I've gotten a bit lost. Is there a way to set which GPU to use and not have it in this dynamic switching mode?

    P.S. Using an intel i5

IIRC, you have to go into the laptops bios setting and select "Fixed" for the GPU you want to use.

As for the new 7690m GPU, I don't think it will show as supported until it officially gets launched on the 8th?
Here is some info on the 7690M but can't find anything on the XT version except one site which said it is faster than the non-XT variant?

I read this somewhere else on this forum...

IIUC, the benefit of switchable graphics is longer battery life when unplugged... otherwise, your GPU is faster than the integrated one on your CPU. So, if you use your laptop plugged most of the time you can always go into your laptops bios and set your GPU to fixed.

Don't know if that helped or not but I am learning as I go. :)

1.After I start the computer the white light in the fingerprint reader starts flashing for about 10-15 minutes and then it seems to stop.Is this an issue or something? How can I make it stop since it is driving me crazy :))
2.How can i select the GPU i want to use?

    Regards.

    1. I assume you don't want to use the fingerprint scanner.. disable Windows Biometric Service or disable the fingerprint device in Device Manager.

I'd guess it is just being sensed, activating and loading the driver... kinda like when you boot with a cordless USB keyboard/mouse attached and the light on the wireless receiver flashes?

How long does it flash? If only 15 seconds or so, maybe you can just boot and then look somewhere else if the flashing disturbs you? :)
Or, maybe you can open up the laptop and physically disable the LED unless it is tied to the actual fingerprint scanner's scanning?

I have a similar setup and Im willing to attempt this but I do have one question. Do I need to set up "fixed" mode in the BIOS first in order for this to work or does it matter?

Yes, set it to "fixed" in BIOS. You can always switch between GPU's manually...set some hot keys for that in the Catayst Center.

Thanks for the info. I just kept it on fixed in the BIOS. That said I have some results and amazingly my fps performance has improved SUBSTANTIALLY after following your steps to the letter!! Before, with the stock drivers, I was getting an average of 25-30 fps which was barely acceptable. After following your steps Im now pushing as high as 75-80 fps particularly when I turn off bloom/shadows. I do still have the occasional hiccup that might take me down to 20fps but overall its a big improvement and one I wasnt expecting! As for Powerplay I have this enabled. I believe its set to high performance for the both battery/ac. Should I be turning this off? Let me know.
