Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, this would not work in my case. I have fixed switchable graphics, meaning I cant change it from BiOS and both card function independently. Your suggestion would only work for those with Dynamic switchable graphics.

What I'm asking about is drivers. I'm on 11.12 right now, but I'm having some incompatibility issues. What is the best driver one can use at this moment for ATI 5650 card with Intel switchable graphics that could avoid black screen when waking up from sleep mode?

You can use Intel GPU but the setting won't stick after shutdown/reboot if you don't plug in your battery. :(

    Same goes for Coolsense setting.

My new HP Pavilion dv6-6135DX is bluescreening during the benchmarks. I have ran the HP tests (pressing F2 when booting up) and everything "passed" - also ran it for run-in test for 24hrs with no errors. What could be the problem? The blue screen is posted below.

Haven't had my HP dv7tqe long and definitely still learning about the switchable graphics.

My question, how do you get to the Catalyst Control Center? I have manually switched to the Radeon 7690M XT card but can't find the control panel.

    Thanks in advance...

Have you tried right clicking the desktop and looking at the menu? On all the computers I've been on that have CCC installed there is an option to access CCC from there.

Thanks, found it. I was looking in the wrong place.

New problem, I went into the BIOS and switched "Dynamic" to "Fixed" just to make sure I could switch manually if I wanted to. I rebooted and was able to switch and verify the graphics switched. I was able to bring up Catalyst Control Center and look around. I then switch back to the Intel GPU, verify and reboot.

The problem is when I go back into BIOS and switch back to "Dynamic", F10 to save changes and reboot, the graphics boot up in 800x600 and icons are huge. I can't switch to any screen resolution higher than 1280x1024 (I have the 1920x1080 screen) and it appears the notebook is confused as to what card is active and what drivers to use.

If I switch back to "Fixed" in the BIOS, my screen resolutions are like they should be and I can switch cards. Any idea what I'm doing wrong or what the problem is?

    Thanks in advance...

I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried setting the BIOS back to "Dynamic" on AC power and saving changes, no luck.

I've tried setting the BIOS back to "Dynamic" on battery power and saving changes, no luck.

After booting up in "Fixed", I tried setting the graphics card to Intel and it works fine. Screen resolution is good (1920x1080) and I reboot, F10 into BIOS, change "Fixed" to "Dynamic", F10 to save changes and it boots up in 800x600, icons are huge. I can't switch graphic cards and the max resolution is 1280x1024.

The only way I can get my screen to look correct is to go back into the BIOS and select "Fixed", F10 to save and reboot.

Any suggestion to get "Dynamic" back?

    Thanks...

    *EDIT* Problem soled!

I was setting the GPU back to the on-chip Intel while in "Fixed" mode and shutting down and going into BIOS and changing the setting back to "Dynamic". You have to have the GPU setting set to use the Radeon PRIOR to switching back to "Dynamic" mode.

Better explained here. (toward the bottom of the article)

Does anyone know of any free or demo programs that use Open GL that WON'T run on the Intel graphics card under dynamic switching? I'd like to test the same program using the AMD card in fixed mode, just to make sure that my dv6tqe can in fact run OpenGL programs if I want.

Okay I have a small problem. I got my dv6t SE with the 7690M gpu. However Windows is only showing the Intel Graphics card as the one it's using.

How do I manually switch it to the AMD radeon card?

I see the very first post mentions the updated bios but how do I know which BIOS my temp laptop came with?

When you reboot, hit F10 and go into the BIOS. On the first page if look near the bottom it will show you your bios version.

Then there is an option (you might have to move right a few tabs) to switch your graphics from Dynamic to Fixed, after you do that you can right click the desktop and manually choose which graphics card you want to use.

Okay, not be flip, and actually hoping I am missing something entirely, but I must take issue with the word "fixed," there. The issue has not been fixed. Rather, a "fix" has been cobbled together so that a label saying fixed might be applied to it. It's something like saying the guy who got an artificial eyeball has now had his eye fixed.

This is the change the fix implements: in the original, as advertised configuration, the user of the dv-7 61xx, for example, was supposed to have switchable graphics, which allowed the user to assign the usage of the AMD 6770M card for high demand applications, like chief architect X4, while assigning the intel graphics chip to low demand applications, like Word. This way, the user could 1) have the necessary graphics power for the applications that needed it; 2) preserve power when on battery; and 3) have the option, in OS, not BIOS, of switching these around as the play called for it.

The so-called "fixed issue," on the other hand, gives the duped customer a configuration where they can have everything running on the high power AMD card or everything running on the lower-power Intel chip. Of course, if the user wants part of the original configuration back, sure, they can change their BIOS setting back to Dynamic, but if they have an application that uses open GL, then they can forget it having the necessary resources unless they go with the Fixed BIOS setting.

Unless I am missing something (still hoping), to me, that is not a fixed issue, but a patch on the of a pair of badly torn jeans.

Also, I am amused that the BIOS setting is called "fixed," because it's not. It's still broken and it's crap, and it's too damn bad. Laughing: I will be more than happy to dine on some serious crow if I am wrong on this, but sadly, I don't think I am.

lol yes 2670qm, i was expecting much more power out of the 7690m. I'm guessing the 7690m is comparable to a 9800gtx or 4850 but with dx11?

    So, I'm baaack! yay!

I posted here for awhile when I was getting my dv6-6100 for med school and figured I'd have time to game :S.

While this wasn't really true, I remember being super pissed when I found out that my new laptop didn't let me force it to use the AMD or just the Intel. At the time, we all felt handicapped being forced to use the "dynamic" system. It was nice, don't get me wrong, but OpenGL only used Intel...and I had the frustration of not being able to fully control my Radeon.

This is the PERFECT fix for me, and I just discovered it! I had given up hope, as the messages we were receiving from HP at the time were not very positive.

I just tested it out earlier today, and was able to select fixed and see performance in Minecraft that I KNEW my laptop was capable of. It was a bit embarrassing to get my new fancy laptop this summer, have my young cousin tell me about this game and me brag how my laptop will demolish it, only to have my laptop get beaten out by his old dell desktop...

Now, I an easily switch from 'fixed' mode, where you select one GPU or the other...to dynamic (most of the time).

As an aside, in dynamic mode with wifi off, I can get almost 8-hrs of lecture-watching and document creation time. Real time is about 7ish hours to 15% battery or so, at which point I don't like to drain my battery further. This is on the 9-cell after a good 7-8 months of use.

Phenomenal machine, great power, AMAZING bargain, and I'm still happy. I also silently gloat when I see those stupid macbooks that my HP blows out of the water...that were more than two and half times what I paid. :D

    Hello,
I recently formatted my hard drive on my DV6t quad. I installed Windows 7 in addition to the driver CD they provided. I then used HP Update to download any new drivers available. I think it downloaded a few, along with the 11.8 video drivers. Anytime I play a game, it runs smoothly for about 3 seconds and then stutters for 1-2. My FPS is fine for all of these games. In other games, background music will just randomly cut out. The games where this happens have smooth game play and a steady FPS, but both suffer from just the background music cutting out. I have tried uninstalling the 11.8 and installing the previous drivers that came out in Septermber. Those did not work, so I tried the DNA drivers with the 12.1 preview and I still suffered from the same stuttering. Dont know what else to do. Maybe its not the GPU thats causing it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I switched my laptop to FIXED mode from the BIOS, everything worked well. Now I switched it back again to DYNAMIC, my drivers are messed up and CCC won't open. It says there are no settings that can be configured using CCC.
Any idea what caused this, and how to fix this?

Not officially, but there's a custom BIOS floating around that allows you to enable fixed mode. The thread about it should be floating around somewhere.

It really is a shame that HP is ignoring the Dv6z line it is just as good as the Intel Dv6's, and it only seems fair to fix both of the lines not just one.

the graphic switching(driver) is kinda meh. There will be complain if there is fixed mode on stock, well, unless they put the effort to refine the driver(add cost = big no huh).

So I decided that I was going to get rid of the DNA drivers along with Ready Driver. So I ended up express uninstalling all of the AMD software, rebooted into safe mode and ran driver cleaner, rebooted (resolution was 600x800), installed HP's amd drivers, rebooted.

The resolution was fixed but I don't have an option for switchable graphics and I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling a couple times now. I've also tried using the driver from the SWsetup folder but they don't seem to be working.

When I right click the desktop I just get Graphics properties and Graphics options for the intel card but I don't have the option for "Switchable graphics properties'.

Any idea on how I can fix this?

    *edit 1*
Oh and dxdiag shows that I have the Radon 7690m XT so it is showing the card but the options to switch are just missing.

    *edit 2*

It seems that switchable graphics are indeed working, when I unplug the laptop it asks if I want to switch cards and it does it when I plug it back in. So basically both cards are working I'm just missing the option in the right click menu.

I've tried multiple times but it doesn't work lol, it seems the only thing that is missing is the option in the right click menu but switchable graphics work just fine through CCC/tray icon.

Once you open CCC go to preferences and check the show in tray icon.

I am trying to play the diablo 3 beta on a dv6t quad with the full 1080 display and its going so slow i have to change the resolution on the game down to 1280 by something just to be able to play smoothly. How do I tell if my graphics card is working. I have a Radeon 7690. Is that too weak? I did the "can you run it" test and it says I failed because I have the Intel HD Family Graphics. How do i make sure the Radeon is working?

Set CCC to use High Performance graphic for Diablo 3 or go into BIOS and use Fixed switching method and activate High Performance graphic in CCC.

So is the dedicated card working under fixed mode? Because when I run 3dmark my frame rate goes down below 10fps and the video is very choppy. Am I missing something here? Or should I update to CCC v12.4?

I'm on the stock drivers right now, and want to update to the latest AMD ones. But AMD's official verification package fails to install anything presumably because of the switching system in my DV6 6121tx.

How do I update to Mobility Radeon 12.4 64bit?
