Does anyone received Asus? How long it takes?
-
Do we have to send in power supply, battery and other accessories?
-
You are not required to send in power supply (a.k.a., AC adapter).
You are not required to send in the battery.
You are not required to send in the hard drive.
Other items?
You must ask specifically. Details matter! Generalized answers can get you into trouble. -
Thanks for a very helpful post. Repped
Now I know I will receive a laptop which includes a warranty. With all the uncertainty in the wind here, that's really helpful to know! -
Glad to help. If there's anything else you guys want to know about the replacement laptop, feel free to ask and I'll try to answer.
-
Well . . . .
I wasn't gonna ask but since you offered:
Can you comment, based on your knowledge of your own situation, on what triggers warranty commencement. For example, do you think your warranty was begun on day of laptop shipment? Or do you believe it was begun on day you registered your new laptop? Do you have an opinion on this, based on your experience?
Thanks! -
The Warranty Information Manual PDF on the laptop states the following: "The Limited Warranty Period starts on the date of purchase or lease from Compaq."
The real question here is how this applies to us, since we're getting replacements from the class-action lawsuit. All I know is that my warranty expires a year from when I registered it (5/18/2011) after checking up on the warranty website. I'm not sure what it said prior to registering, but I believe it was the ship date (5/12/2011). Not 100% on that though.

What's the difference between the Athlon II N series and the P series?
-
That's really interesting stuff! Many thanks.
And BTW I agree with your take: the real question is, indeed, how this applies to us. Our situation is not commonplace.
But if it were possible to delay warranty commencement until registration, then it could be delayed until sale. This would offer opportunity to sellers to extend a full one year warranty to their buyer.
Also, those wishing to keep the CQ56, but without immediate use for it, could forestall the warranty from kicking in.
I'm not making any assertions here about when the warranty starts. I acknowledge you wrote that you are uncertain. Just am sort of "thinking out loud". -
the N series run at a faster clock and draw 35 watts they run at 2.4 and 2.5 respectfully
the P series runs at 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 respectfully and draw 25 watts
hope that helps

Has anyone swapped out the V140 for a N370 processor? Is their a big difference? Is it worth it?
-
Thank you.
-
I plan to replace V140 for P340(slightly slower than N370)
I will test it and publish the results. However I'm not sure when I will get the CQ56. This week is the 12th week since they received my laptop.(11 weeks since replacement approval.)
Note N370 may generate more heat so the upgrade could require a slightly better heat sink as well.. -
HP Warranty FAQ:
HP warranty - frequently asked questions
Q17. Will my warranty be affected if I install a non-HP upgrade/option in my HP product ?
HP warranty extends only to HP products and options. If you install a non-HP option into your HP product and this option then fails, you must contact the supplier for warranty cover on that item.
The warranty on your HP product will not be affected by the installation of a non-HP upgrade/option unless your HP product is damaged as a result of installation and/or operation of a third party option, such damage will not be covered by HP warranty.
If your HP product is not operating correctly, you may be asked to verify that any non-HP option is not responsible for the problem be uninstalling any such items. -
HP Warranty FAQ:
HP warranty - frequently asked questions
Q4. Do I need to keep my sales receipt?
Your HP warranty begins from the date you purchased the product. In most cases, the serial number of your product will be sufficient to confirm your product entitlement to warranty cover.
However, you should always retain your product receipt in case there is any query over warranty cover. Your receipt should include the serial number of the product to which it applies. -
I would really appreciate it if you guys could run the Passmark benchmark on the EU37 and the CQ56. Below are the results from my HP TX1220US Tablet (TL-64). After running the benchmark and it reports the results, click on the File Menu in the program and save the report as a web document. Then you can cut and paste into a message like I did below. This would really help some of us to know whether we can live with either the EU37 or the CQ56. Right now I'm leaning toward CQ56 only because I can upgrade the CPU if its too slow for my needs.
Here is a link to the web site for the program.

Reminder:
If your Replacement Claim has been approved, your computer must be received by July 18, 2011.
The NVIDIA GPU Litigation - Home Page -
Droid82 - very nice job on the review, buddy. Some of your comments made me laugh, especially the part about almost throwing up in your mouth.
+1 rep.
Question - I got the point on the not creaking part, but is 100% plastic really a pro; or just a pro that it doesn't creak even though it's made of 100% plastic?
Loved the personal rant section. Now that you've had to put up with this turd a few more days, is there anything else to add to the rant? The display model at BestBuy really looks cheap and felt it felt cheap when handling it. The keyboard seemed really cheesy, and the finish on the palmrest and area surrounding the keyboard was also butt-ugly (IMHO). -
"Please note that these computers are being shipped primarily in the order in which the original computer was received. Your patience is appreciated."
My wife's dead dv6449us was shipped to NVIDIA on 02/23/2011 and received by NVIDIA on 02/25/2011, so we're at 12 weeks. Has anyone received their CQ56 or Asus netbook that shipped their defective notebook to NVIDIA after 02/25/2011? If so, please post the date when yours was received by NVIDIA so we that sent our garbage in earlier can call the settlement hotline and start pounding Westerman with emails to complain about their failure to perform according to their own rules. -
Thanks for the compliment and rep!
Well, the 100% plastic part can be a pro/con, depending on your viewpoint. I've experienced many laptops in the past that creak louder than Kathy Griffin speaks. The fact that this laptop is essentially silent is a HUGE plus in my book. As for the keyboard, it gets the job done and I have no real complaints. The palm rest design? It's a bit on the ugly side, but I'm not really paying attention to it. It is a $300 laptop after all...
The only other thing that REALLY annoys me is the "mouse bar". Seriously, you practically need to be the Hulk to push this button in. Who's idea was it to merge two mouse buttons into one big bar? I guess the one chimp in the room that wasn't throwing feces at the others managed to slip this one through design...
I guess I'm going to be forced into buying one of those "mini-me" mouses in the near future...
-
To the person who received the Asus, does the manual mention about memory upgrades and what memory chip is recommended for the upgrade?
I know the Asus T101MT-EU17 model was misleading (or should I say Amazon) in that it suggested a 2gb memory chip, when it really only allows 1gb chip to be added due to 1gb being soldered to the motherboard.
So if/when you upgrade the memory for your Asus, could you post the details here?
Thanks! -
You can instal only 1gb.I do not remember spec. on one I used But very important is that before you instal any memory you have to go to bios (using f2 button on start)and disable boot boster in boot menu. After instalation and qick check if it showing extra memory you can enable boot boster. It will not read memory if you don't do it.I also did try to put 2gb and it show only 1gb extra total of 2gb insted of 3.You can find a video of memory and software upgrade on older model on YouTube.

The only 'fast' thing about this whole deal is the Fedx shipping and I'm 100% sure if the company I spent my $2K with could screw that up.
I just got off the phone with a very nice lady which I told that I am tired of hearing my wife scream "I want my computer and I want it NOW" (trying to get a laugh out of her) and she told me that she hears that all day long, so I advised her that she has good job security for sure, still no laugh .. so I told her that it could be worse, much worse, even worse than a wet-n-chunky burp .. To me this whole "Deal" has been like other broken promises, hell I'm still waiting for Santa Claus to show up ! When I have it in my hands I will then believe I have it.

I did send out my hp tx1309nr on March 14,delivered on March 17 and approved on March 21.I did received Asus on May 16
-
As soon as I turn on Asus I noticed a vertical line on screen 3.5" from right side.It is visible only on some colors like blue .When I use browser it is bearly noticeable.I did concacted NVF costumer support line and told them that computer is faulty straight out of the box. They advised me to register with Asus for warranty and take it from there.I am very disappointed wit this computer and with it performance. You must upgrade ram becouse everything will take forever. There is 1gb of memory ,system and windows is using 700mb of it that is before any antyvirus software.I am waiting with windows 7 upgrade till I work out problem with this line on the screen.
-
Called them this morning, to follow up. I'm off and running:
Old laptop left here on May 10.
It arrived on May 12 in California.
It was logged in and approved on May 13. Not bad at all; it must have been a slow week.
I must wait eight to ten weeks, starting from May 13, for arrival of glorious new CQ56 laptop.
Great stuff!! -
Did you send in your Hard Drive, AC adapter, and Battery? I have a tx1220us and want to send it in and want to know what is required so it won't get rejected? Thanks for the update. -
Did you run this test in high performance mode or super performance mode. If you did it in high performance mode could you try it in super performance mode and see if there's any difference.
Thanks -
I still haven't received mine yet and I sent mine in 2/9/2011 and they received it 2/11/2011. It's been 14 weeks for me. They must not be shipping in the order they're received.
-
I sent mine in on feb25 and it was received by march1. i wonder how long my wait will be?
-
how do you know the approval date?
-
3 weeks before I received Asus I called for update and costumer Rep provide information on approval but they did not tell me when exactly I will receive computer.she said 10-14 weeks.

FYI... Shipped my brick on 02/24/2011; received by NVIDIA 02/28/2011; Received my CQ56-115DX today, 05/20/2011. I live in the Denver, CO metro area.

that's good news your one day ahead of me so i should get mine tomorrow if fedex runs on Saturday and things are in my favor.
-
just got a delivery date. should be here the week of 6/13 if not call back for a tracking #. ship on 3/29, check in and approved on 4/4.

I did not send in my hard drive, AC adapter, or battery. My dead laptop was of the F500 series of laptops.
I also did not send in my HDD caddy. -
This is only JMHO:
I think with the lawsuit risk now in the rear view mirror, nVidia and HP might be speeding up shipping of replacement laptops. Like ourselves, they probably also want this to be over.
My largest regret is that I did not send in my laptop sooner. I wasted weeks waiting for a CA court. I should have my head examined, but they wouldn't find much. Where my brain belonged they would discover something akin to the vacuum of space.
About anyone who did send in their laptop earlier I have this opinion:
Smart Operator -
I sent in my tx1000 for a asus, no HHD, caddy or ac adapter.
-
I got my Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Notebook.. and really feeling like I got ripped off from the law suite. I nearly paid $900 for my HP Pavilion Dv9000 and to get this. I know some of the Compaq is better and having something that runs.. but getting a 15" monitor, not a full size key board, and no web cam, and no memory reader.. I really feeling like they are making fun of me.
And to top it all off Fedex leaves this by the door and my guy had to run home to get it. so no one would steal it.. I am probably being petty but it has not been a good day.
-
I know what you mean, I'm going to miss my 17 inch screen, and the built in webcam, full sized keyboard, and card reader. I bought a usb card reader and webcam, but it sucks having to carry them all around, and having the webcam clipped to the top of the screen.
-
Unless you need it for unique reasons, touch screens are really dorky and not all that useful. If you can get your hands on a cheap Windows XP installation CD, that may help with the system resources if you don't care about using the touch screen. The sluggish performance of the netbook was predictable. Netbooks are meant to be small, light and ultra-portable, but not powerful.
-
You're darn tootin' they want it to be over. The faster they can get it done, the less money it costs them. We know it's not because they care about us.
If you were pausing with the glimmer of hope for a better outcome, there's no shame in that. Lord knows the world needs more optimistic people. Hold your head high, my friend.
I think a lot of people on this forum were a little miffed that I sent in my wife's brick without any hesitation, but I've been involved with a fair amount of litigation in my career and had a pretty good hunch that things would turn out exactly as they did. I alluded to that in some of my posts. It's a shame it took so much time for us to receive confirmation that we got screwed.
The wheels of justice turn very slowly and are often driven by people that really don't give a rat's tail about anyone but themselves. Any time there is a compromise settlement rather than a trial by jury you can just about bet your bottom dollar the "winners" are going to be lawyers. Settlement negotiation can be an indication that the initiating party is concerned about losing, especially when their compensation is based on a contingency of prevailing at trial. Sometimes both sides are worried, and jurors can sometimes be flakes. But, a lawyer that has a really strong case and agrees to negotiate with the enemy is a real wimp. Short of jury trial, the attorneys on both sides generally get paid for their work. So, both attorneys come out winners. I have generally felt more comfortable that a panel of 12 ordinary people would do a better job of "doing the right thing" more often than not.
And, don't get me started about judges. They're often worse than a bad attorney. (Some of the judges I've been exposed to are simply lazy attorneys that didn't have the drive and professional stamina it takes to be successful and earn a handsome living in private law practice.)
There are many good judges and good attorneys, and I am not painting all of them with the same brush. However, the only good one we saw involved in this case was Ted Frank, and even his valiant efforts were futile in the face of greed and corruption.
Depending on how you look at it, NVIDIA's attorneys did an awesome job of looking out for the best interests of their client and deserve to be paid for their brilliant (albeit underhanded) defense work. They showed themselves to be skilled and competent esquires, unlike their opposition.
The real winner of this case was hp. They got off scot-free with NVIDIA as the scapegoat and they get to sell merchandise for the settlement to boot. hp should have been the defendant or co-defendant. It's now up to all of us to make them pay for their insolence through a loss of clientele. -
Shipped my compaq v6030us 3/1/2011 and it was received by the administrator on 3/3/2011..everyday, I check my front porch for it, no luck! Obviously the units are not being shipped in order, since some of you have been waiting since February while others are getting them from a later date.
I keep getting paranoid that FedEx will come by and I'll miss the delivery, and have to wait til the next day. Are most packages being left at doors without a signature? My patience is running real thin.
