vatzgr, this is a dv5 thread. While you may read of porblems after installing XP, most of us actually has a full working XP notebook :D.
I am not too sure about differences in DV5 and DV7, but if you have a few hours on your hand, it is not difficult to just install XP and then test it out.
But, remember to burn a recovery DVD before taking the plunge.

vangelis, you can start by posting a Screenshot of the Vista device drivers.
maybe we can try and help you identify what xp drivers to use.

@vatzgr There is a dv7 thread about xp, read that. There are differences. Last time I read it they were having issues with the sound, but I think most other things were working. Mostly it should be the same as dv5t.

What drivers did you use? If the newest from HP website, this could be a problem. I installed them and fingerprint sensor stopped working, too (both in Vista and XP). Try installing different drivers. Those for Vista should work, too, but maybe only if you install them with the 'have disk' method.

What version of DigitalPersona are you using? If 3.0, then it won't work with XP, either. You have to get ver. 4.0.

    I'm using 4.0 version of DigitalPersona ..
The program is established in him no problem, but installing the drivers for Xp is cut in half.
I think that's why the program does not recognize it automatically ..

Yeah, usually if everything is working fine, I dont bother to update drivers.... because there is a risk that somethings might not work afterwards.
Unless the driver fixes a problem that I was experiencing before, which usually isnt the case. Usually they just add support for something dumb, haha.

@mujjuman check post 1 for current status. Pretty much everything except hard driver sensor protection is working. This works for AMD ppl it seems, but I only know of 1 person with an Intel chip that has it working.

I have not included the link to Digital Persona 4 in post 1 because I do not know the legality of it.

Dear Joshua Wood, I have bought a new dv7-1183cl, i am from Costa Rica and don't like win vista. This is my advance: http://www.viarasoft.com/Downgrade.htm but the sound and modem devices are not present. I have installed win xp x64 sp2, it recognizes my 4 gb of RAM and thanks to your support above I already have my brigthness control working with the f.25 Bios update.

My problem is finding the correct uaa for xp x64 to view my sound devices. Some hours ago, making some testing, that devices pop up and ask for a restart, when I come back after restart, the devices gone/disappear and I don't know what happened or how to make it visible againg and then install the IDT drivers...

    Could you help me?

Okay then i guess i have waited long enough to post my very first reply on this thread.

I have seen a lot of problems , questions that needed answer but it took me so long to give a reply for anyone because i am a very lazy person but seriously this question teased me alot.

wewe i dont think u fully understand overclocking a mobile gpu may possibly lead to, The 9600M GT chipped with many of the dv5 notebooks is a great graphics card and have a significant performance improve over the 8600M GT which has the same no. of stream processors ( 32 units in particular)
The main reason for this is the better 65nm technology used and the higher gpu and shader clocks.

So when u ask about overclocking it i would definetly DISAGREE because mobile cars of such higher clocks are already producing enough heat and overclocking wouldnt give u that much of a performance gain instead it will definetly fry ur gpu sooner or later.

sorry i waited so long to post this but havent visited the thread for a while. :)

have you visited the thread HP DV5T latest drivers? there is a link to it in my sig. there are a list of drivers in the first post that may help you out. there is a link to the latest IDT audio drivers for xp on there too. take a look at it and try out some of the drivers for your notebook. post back with your results. if you still have any devices that still dont function or have a question mark, post the device IDs and maybe we can help find drivers that will get that particular device to work. :)
