Any help on this particular hp pavillion model will be greatly appreciated (HP pavillion dv7-1150ev).

I too have the same problems with sound + I have about 5 uknown devices.
I searched at IDT's homepage for drivers but they're not giving any b/c they say they made an agreement with the notebook manufacturers. As such, none of them (including HP) supplies drivers for windows xp for the IDT audio device.

I have found that a solution with a startup .bat script running devcon.exe and restarting the specific audio device will make audio work. You can find this at:
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=OS&message.id=238&query.id=497514#M238

But this isn't really a solution since it takes forever laptop to boot (b/c of that sound problem) and the IDT systray application fails to show up on the bottom right.
Have been searching for the past few days, and I came across at a lot of unhappy and discouraged dissapointed dv7-1150ev owners. I'm sure there is a solution for the sound and the rest unknown devices.
Thanks for everything mentioned so far.

hello to you sir

unfortunately i sopose only the owners of dv7-1150ev have this problem because most of threads i read many of them have solve the problems with sound and modems....

i don't want to solve the problem with batch files cause if you make any of windows update the problems must be worst.... ( my opinion)

i don;t know what else to cinfigure i read and i install drivers from softpedia.com... about latest software drivers for sound IDT, Agere (formerly) LSI modem and the problem is same... if you see and my posts sound comes on when i run KB835221 file from folder us

the other drivers worrks fine liek wireless, NIC ethernet, etc.

if anyone can have solution for this are welcome

thank you all

Hello everybody

My Bios version is F.07
I tried to update it through windows XP but it did not work, so i want to update it to F.14 using DOS.
I am using Hiren`s.BootCD.9.8, but every time i write a drive letter in DOS it gives me an error as if the specified path does not exist.

Can u tell me how to update the Bios using Dos?

Thank u in advance.

Hi Guys,

My first post here, and before hand I want to congratulate you for all the awesome work you've done so far. This thread got me out of some dead-ends I've hit during the XP try-outs I've made so far.

I now have a fully-functional dv5-1002(au) with XP SP3 (Turion RM-70@2Ghz, 250 GB Toshiba, 2 GB RAM, Ati HD 3200, Atheros 5007, HP Integrater Btooth, Fingerprint, ENE-Cir + hp remote.. and so on).

I've used the ATI official distribution for HD3200 for XP - direct download from the site. The Brightness buttons are fully functional.

I've managed to install the HP 3D DriveGuard (comes with with AMD Support for HP 3D DriveGuard) and it works. Whoever wants to try it, download the sp39738 from hp's ftp (sp39738 contains the driver sp39602 as well). You can find it (and some other usefull & functional xp drivers) on the download page for HP Compaq 6735s (shares a lot of devices with my dv5).
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...sId=3687621&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093
The accelerometer works, and the Control Panel utility shows now "supported". I've even managed to "scare" the accelerometer into parking the disk, and got the red hdd led on :)

What I'd like to recommend you guys are the AMD CPU support&drivers, as I don't remember reading about them in this thread:
- Dual Core Optimizer - from AMD site (v1.1.4 installed on my leptop)
- CPU Driver for XP - Compaq 6735s site above - sp40535
- AMD Power Monitor - from AMD site - it will allow you to monitor configure CPU behavior & power savings & cool'n'quiet. (need more info, just write back, I'll try to make a post only for CPU, if needed)

For the FingerPrint driver I've used the Misc5 folder from SWsetup. The DigitalPersona 4.0 works ok - thanks to whoever uploaded it to rapidshare ;)
Had a couple of odd behaviors lately (the software stating the finger print reader is not connected); lately = after installing the sp41693 IDT driver and 2.6.0.0 Cir driver. Still monitoring this...

I have the QLB installed (working fine) and the HP Remote is working great with the 2.6.0.0 ENE Cir. Yet I have to check other remotes (after I figure out everything Roamin said in his 512 post of this thread). Haven't tried to remap any keys yet. Great work Roamin!

The longest "trial&error" I had was with the IDT drivers. Finally using the one from the first post, i got it to work fine. The mute button is behaving correctly since the install, but i had to do the "power save" reg hack. Thanks for figguring this out.

Things I couldn't test or confirm: eSATA behavior (don't have an external disk now); HDMI output (video nor sound) - as I don't have the necessary hardware (tv and so on). However, the Device Manager is clean and everything seems to be working fine otherwise.

@joshua_wood, if you need me to, I can make up a dedicated post for how to install everything for an AMD powered dv5 - or at least one sharing the same config as I've posted above.

Thanks again guys, and keep the great up the great work!

And i must say great work to you as well! because the amd driver support for hp drive guard enabled the hard drive protection on my dv5-1124ca (it needed a reboot that wasn't prompted). So now everything fully works. I will check right now the different other utilities you posted for amd users, i checked their site when i got my laptop, but i found nothing of interest in their clumsy site.

I just wish the IDT audio drivers had a control panel to give more control over what happens with the audio. And i also with i could understand how to make my xbox remote work with my laptop, like it does before i install any drivers.

I installed the other utilities , and i am glad to see that power schemes now affect the cpu usage (always on turns both cores on full speed, while laptop scheme turns off one core and runs the other half speed) but where can i do anything with cool n' quiet?

My bad here, Cool'n'Quiet refers to the newer AMD generation - Phenom - http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_9485_9487^10272,00.html
For Turion, it is called CoolCore, or smth - see the Turion product info page: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_12651_15667^15668,00.html

I couldn't find any configuration utilities for this - except the power scheme change. Both the cores in my laptop idle at 500MHz, and jump to 1 Ghz or 2 Ghz, when needed (on portable / laptop power scheme).
With the new driver, the battery life should extend a bit (can't estimate yet, as I've only finished this weekend). Before this driver, the frequency didn't seem to vary - you may check it from My Computer properties, on the first page (General); each time you bring it up, Windows will probe your CPU; you will observe now 499 Mhz if the leptop doesn't have any stress...

I'm glad the DriveProtection is turned on on your system as well. you may want to "scare" it to turn your disk led red :)

And I have to agree with you on the IDT driver... a config page would have been nice. However 98% of users don't ever use it... so I guess this its ok as it is.

On the remote side... it must that the Cir driver overwrites smth in order to have the HP remote work! In doing this it might override XP's capabilities to operate remotes... just a guess.

If you have the time and nerves to try it, here's a way of checking exactly what:

1. reinstall xpsp3, cleanly
3. install all other drivers, except for Cir.
2. download procmon from microsoft's site (written by sysinternals)
3. configure procmon to filter only reg changes, and go with the install of the CIR
4. save the output, and start digging into the keys changed

From here on, dunno...

I am unable to do all this, as the dv5 is used, and I don't have any way of quick-backup (i.e. hiren boot...) as the AHCI is not recognized yet (or at least I can't get it right).

Quick question on this - if you uninstall the Cir driver, and reboot, after the reboot does you xbox remote work? The question covers the query on whether or not the Cir driver registry changes are permanent.

Teddy,

I had tried before removing the CIR drivers , my 360 remote doesn't not regain compatibility with windows XP. The only time it is compatible , is right before i install any version of the drivers. It does , however, always work when i boot into vista. I will try more things with the remotes when i get a bit more free time.

I will try procmon again ( i used it in the past, but was unsuccessful at finding what happened to my drivers.)

I will never install SP3 , as it has caused me problems in the past, i have never had a real reason to install it (using last xp cd that SP2 corporate).

The reason for my post is that , i was looking at hp's site , and saw that bios F.31 (For amd based notebooks) So , i installed it. I noticed some new options in the bios :

Language (English French Spanish and Japanese if i recall correctly).
Button Sound (i think it was there already , it refers to the clicking sound when scrolling volume)

I believe this wasn't there :
Virtualization Technology (Enabled or Disabled)
Description: Hardware VT enables a processor feature for running multiple simultaneous Virtual Machines allowing specialized software applications to run in full isolation of each other. HP recommends that this feature remained disabled unless specialized applications are being used.

I updated my bios in vista, although i did update it in XP before with no problems. (But i don't remember what i did , maybe it was a modification in the .ini file , can't remember) but updating in XP took only seconds, so anyone waiting too much in xp is not normal.

Also, the bios claims to fix a power loss issue , while booting from external media.

Was the VT option already there?

btw, first thing i did after restarting my laptop with the driveguard ,was to scare the HD :)

Roamin,

My dv5-1002 came with F 13 (thirteen) BIOS Version. It has the four languages and also has the Virtualization Option. On the same page i have Button Sound and FanAlwaysOn.

I've booted from USB stick and can confirm there is no power loss. (if i got it right, this should not have worked...)

About the remote thing - if you are using the exact same driver (2.6.0.0) in xp and vista, then try the following. I have not tested at all... it's just a hunch...

If you compare the two .inf files from the Vista32 and XP32 folders, you'll see they differ, but not much, just several notes.

1. xp one adds an extra dll.
2. xp installs one extra section within the miniport section (all subsequent sections):

From the comments in the first set (enecirhid_parameters.addreg) you'll observe it makes to references to MCE rc6 and acer ac6. These two are not present in the Vista version of the driver inf file. The other two (tsb nec) and (lenovo av6) are the same.

Ok, now based on the tags given to the buttons, in the XP inf file, they are exactly how they appear on a MCE remote (searched for a google image of "mce rc6", and all the buttons seem to match). I obviously do not own one to start some trials..

So, for now, our equation contains:

a. 360 remote works in xp, before any driver installed, doesn't after
b. 360 remote works in vista with same driver
c. xp driver adds separate section for (mce rc6 / acer ac6)
d. vista driver does not have this section in its inf file

-> seems that the extra section from the xp inf file messes up with the builtin xp functions (default support for mce remote, when no driver).

I have to stress the fact that this is just pure, simple reasoning and comparison. I have no idea what would happen if one would attempt to modify the inf file! but even so, worst case scenario, unplug the beast...

This might be pure bu****it... but if it does make sense to you too, it might worth a try...

And now... after I did my stressing... are you available to try to alter the inf? Either the one for Vista or the one for xp:
add in the vista one, the xp extra section, or
remove from the xp one the extra section

... check results

As you know this must be attempted with clean windows install... to have the controlled environment.

So, looking forward to your thoughts on this :)

PS: I'm very happy with the default one working as supposed :p

Yes! Go ahead and download sp39738 from the Compaq Driver site - install both the driver and AMD support. Don't forget to reboot (even if not asked to)... After reboot check the Control Panel utility. You should have "supported" now... see the details in my post above.

You may even want to scare it a bit, to see the hdd light coming up red :p

thanks. i gave it a shot and its exactly what i was looking for. one other question though. i want to modify what the QuickPlay button opens up instead of QuickPlay. I found a nice app called Auto Hotkey which can program hotkeys to different keys or even the touch buttons on the DV5. the program has shown me the codes that the program detects based on the key or touch button i press EXCEPT for the QuickPlay button. I remember once a month ago i tried it and it gave me the code for the QuickPlay button but now its not and i didnt write down the code it pulled up. does anyone know this program and might know of a way to find what the code is? I just hope that my recent bios update might not have disabled sending that code to the program. :( any ideas? or if anyone knows a different way to reprogram the QuickPlay key?

There is a simple 2 step procedure in order to remap quickplay to whatever you want. First ,use "Sharpkeys" http://www.randyrants.com/sharpkeys3.zip which is just a frontend to modify the registry to remap any keyboard keys to another key.

run Sharpkeys, click add , in the left menu click "type key" then , press quickplay .. for me it's " F-Lock: Undo (E0_08) " click OK, In the right menu, select " App: Calculator (E0_21) " click OK. And click OK again. Now click Write to registry. This has reassigned quickplay to the calculator for now.

Now run regedit, and locate :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\18

Modify the string "ShellExecute" from "calc.exe" to "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" or any other executable/shortcut (don't include the quotes "" )

if \18 doesn't exist, you can create it, and create the string "ShellExecute" (i think its case sensitive). Then modify the string to point to your application of choice.

On a side note, i'm still trying things with me remotes , including the 360 mce remote. I would like to be able to remap the dvd or quickplay key on the remote to launch applications as well, but for now i cannot find what scancode gives application keys like calculator, messenger, mail etc inside the ircodetable. There is 4 report id types and no information about them, so its pretty much a trial and error until i find a scancode that will generate an appkey, that's if appkeys are supported in the cir driver.

There is , a workaround for that as well, just remap the quickplay or whichever key in the ircodetable, to let's say f15 (from 80 04 80 00 to 80 01 00 6A in ircodetable) And then again use sharpkeys to reassign F15 to an appkey (it can be the same, if you want to duplicate the quickplay button on both keyboard and remote, or another i used app:Email to launch a different program if i use quickplay on the remote), and you are done!

You can find a list of appcommands and their number in appkey key in the registry from this link :
http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?showtopic=2017&view=findpost&p=39107

If you want to make this change to a single user :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey

Hello!
I just get on my hands a DV5 1125 notebook, it comes with Vista installed, so I've format and install successfully Windows XP x64 on it.
Windows update finds a lot of drivers, but I still dont get 100% drivers installed so far.

I aim to handle 2 issues: IDT audio driver (with mute light thing) and Bluetooth Driver. I've read this whole thread, tried the Roamin mixed driver and Muchas registry hack, but no success at all. The driver install flawlessly, but after computer restart I got a error "cant find STlang.dll" on sstray.exe and stacvs doesnt start either. So I guess Muchas registry hack doesnt get any effects if stacvs not running, right?
Windows Update installed a driver for sound, but it "cracks" a lot, its very annoying...

About Bluetooth, I've tried what Weve wrote, install just the drivers on Device Manager, but both SP39805 and SP38457 (Vista driver for this model) fail.

So, any ideas for what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advice!

i can help you for the blutooth thingy
if u backed up your SWsetup folder on a DVD (while in vista) before formatting , just use have disk method and choose the directory of : blutooth folder in your DVD where swsetup is located
i think it must be somthg like that : f:\swsetup\drivers\bluetooth (considering F is your DVD drive)
if not , just install the drivers wherever you want and use the have disk method and of course choose the directory where u installed your blutooth drivers and it'll work

Could you see which driver version you have installed? Maybe exists a CVA file with the driver number from HP.

You don't need it for anything. It's probably better off not to install it ;)

dp64, quicklaunch is not needed for anything. I don't have it installed and every key/function works on my dv5.

Big Kudos to all who contributed to this thread.

It has taken me only a couple hours to drop in a new HD (320gb, 7200rpm) and install XP to the point of all devices enabled.

ROAMIN:
Good to be back and this thread ROCKS!!!!It had solved virtually all the problem for installing Xp.Great work guys!!!

Roamin i saw ur post to remap the quickplay key.I used Sharpkeys and got the key code " F-Lock: Undo (E0_08) " same as u mention.Without changing anything when i went into the registry-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\18

i found that string "ShellExecute" was already set to "calc.exe" but my quickplay key was doing nothing. Then i remap the key with "MyComputer"
using Sharpkeys and restarted the pc now my quickplay opens "MyComputer"
for me but when i checked the same no. 18 folder it was still showing "calc.exe".i remaped it with another key it worked that way but showing "calc.exe" in string "ShellExecute" in folder 18.i manually changed string "ShellExecute" to "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" but nothing happend.

So i came to a conclusion that it is not taking value from that 18 folder.
Can to help me to figure out where it is saving that key value so that i can change it and map to my application or is there any other software which shows registry changes path when we change any key in registry.

Plz help me figure out this problem.
Thanks

Just got me eSATA cable today, connected to a 320gb Seagate in a rocketfish eSATA enclosure. It works. I think the previous problem was trying to connect to a SATA, not eSATA, external device.

I have not checked to see if the drive is accessible from the bios yet.

Here is what my registry looks like and works fine :

Is it possible for you to take a screenshot (alt+print screen , then ctrl-v in paint) of your registry and upload it here?

What could be interfering is other software. Do you have intellitype or any other keyboard software installed?

The registry keys are case sensitive, that could also be a problem.

I am in the midst of re-writing the post for remapping the remote, but meanwhile i found a while back ago the correct scan code to directly assign a media key to your remote.

The following file shows the correct scan codes for media keys :

http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/1/161ba512-40e2-4cc9-843a-923143f3456c/translate.pdf

Next to "MEDIA SELECT" in the HID USAGE ID column is 0183 . You must change the ircode to XX 03 83 01 where XX is the actual ircode of the remote's button. XX is 80 for the quickplay button. This avoids having to use sharpkeys to launch an app with the remote.

ROAMIN:
Thanks, Roamin for ur intrest and respone.I have attached a pic of my registry untouched means when i didnt change any settings in it.It has 5 folders and in 18th folder it was by default calc.exe.I tried to change it through shaprkeys to "MyComputer" and checked that this 18th folder gets change to point "MyComputer" but it was showing still calc.exe and my Quickplay is opening "MyComputer" then i tried to give my path in shellExexute value to see that if it works but it failed also so probably it is modifying path anywhere else.

You r doing a great work of remapping remote buttons but i am not much bothered about my remote working cause on 1st day i lost my remote and there is no chance to getting a spare one from hp.

I hope this information will be sufficient. Can u plz give me solution that how can find my path in registry to change that Quickplay button to my path whether it effects my remote keys HID or not cause i dont have a remote now.

Thanks

rishi,

your instructions are somewhat unclear, and you didn't understand properly what needs to be done. You use sharpkeys to change which key is assigned to the quickplay button (F-Lock Undo). In your case , you didn't change it to the calculator key , but the my computer key. This makes sense that it now opens My computer. In my post , when i say to change to App: Calculator , then that was what you were supposed to change it to , if you wanted to modify the value in 18. The media key App: My Computer is not 18 , but it is 17.

Simply put, each "App:" key , have a different Appkey ID. Calculator is 18 , my computer is 17 , Media Select is 16, Mail is 15 , etc.

You can find a list of appkey id here :
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.fr.windowsxp/msg/ef076bdbd86f12b1

When you use sharpkeys , it does not modify the appkey registry settings , but rather it modifies this key :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout

Originally , this key doesn't exist in windows , and your keyboard is normal layout. You create the key to remap the keyboard to another key, but this has nothing to do with changing the program launched by the key. A lot more info on this registry key can be found by google, but you don't really need to care about this key , since thats what sharpkeys does for us.

So, once you have modified the keyboard layout with sharpkeys , like you did, you must manually modifiy the appkey. In your specific case you remapped to My computer, so , you need to change the data in appkey\17.

In my case the appkey 17 has "ShellExecute" "::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"

Should be changed to "ShellExecute" "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe"

Hope this helps.
