Cheers! I have the same combo as yours. Lol. but I thought that was NMB keyboard. Are you sure it is Alps? Thanks a lot man. I heard a lot of contradictory claims on this topic...

Once your laptop has been shipped you will see a serial number of your laptop on your order status page, and use that number along with your laptop's type number to check your laptop's parts here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/s...=/partslookup/partsLookup.vm&sitestyle=lenovo

Your laptop's type number should be "XXXX" if you see " 1 XXXXCT CONFIGURED SYSTEM" on your order status page. For me my laptop's type number is "6459" because the order status page says "1 6459CT CONFIGURED SYSTEM". Good luck bro.

I'm not 100% sure about the screen, but I'm pretty sure about the keyboard. If you search for 42T3209 on the following site, you'll find it listed in the Alps column:

    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-64342.html

Hope you enjoy the combo.. I'm looking forward to receiving mine on Monday!

I think I am quite sure that 42T0422 is LG.

In addition, I think your link is just for R series. Anyway, is Alps better or worse than NMB? Thanks.

supposedly alps is worse than nmb...but by very little...and coming in 3rd place is chicony..

but keep in mind...you are comparing the best 3 kb's out there for notebooks..

it's like who gets the gold, silver, and bronze in the olympics...they are all awesome kb's..and are very subjective

I currently have the chicony and I love it....my replacement is coming with a nmb..and I'm not too happy about that....I like that clicky hard feeling (it provides more feedback for me so I am able to type much faster without errors)...nmb is more soft

Just take everything with a grain of salt

one thing that cannot be disputed is that LG lcd's are better than samsungs in terms of brigthness and samsungs are much better than LG's in terms of clarity

They both have the same amount of backlight leakage and bad viewing angles

so it's a take on clarity versus brightness

Yup you are right. Maybe I should not be paranoid about the T61p. Anyway it's just a laptop and for business use who cares about the manufacturers... If it can get the job done then that's pretty good and I can condescend to use Samsung screen or Chicony keyboard....

I've used the Alps keyboard on my T61 and have NMBs on the T61p and T43. I like how quiet the NMBs are. Concerning all the posts that say that Lenovo is rebranding the Chicony ones with the NMB FRU, can you still tell if the keyboard is a real NMB by looking for the little blue bumpers under the keys as opposed to the slanted plastic parts under the Alps and Chicony's?

hey duran. sorry for the late reply. been playing with this x61 for the last few days. It is extremely light...2.8lbs. I did get the 4 cell battery which may have been a bad idea. i never get more than 1.75 hours off of it (i kind of expected it). so make certain you are ok with either the quick drain 4 cell or the sticking out the back 8 cell. Other than that, i'm very happy with this laptop. i bought the 3 year warranty for it. good luck getting yours from ebay/craigslist. you should be fine with Amex backing you up - they've always been extremely helpful to me in the past.

Actually I got the x61 to replace a dell inspiron 6000, which was about ~7.5lbs in weight. Also I didn't really want the extended 8-cell sticking out.

You have an x61 and its only 2.8 lbs? I thought only the x61s could achieve that weight with the ultralight screen and the lightest battery.

I'm certain it's under 3lbs. It's light enough compared to my near 8lb inspiron 6000 - that's all i cared for in purchasing this. I was looking also at the dell latitude d430 but it is a tad bit heavier than the x61. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

When you guys say it's sitting in Kentucky, does it actually say anything about customs? The last update on my tracking simply says:

LOUISVILLE, KY, US 09/08/2007 3:04 A.M. IMPORT SCAN

There's no message about customs or about the package being held beyond UPS's control.

I'm just puzzled because it says the delivery date is tomorrow, but I find it doubtful that the package is going to make it to the east coast by then if it's still in KY.

Mine does say it is being held beyond UPS control and it is due in tomorrow. It could actually very well make it to the east coast by tomorrow if it is air shipped. Heck mine made it from Alaska to KY in one day. Shipping can be super fast, it just depends how it is done.

How are you weighing this... The x61s is only 2.8lbs if it is combined with the PRISMATIC 4-cell battery. You cannot even order the prismatic 4-cell for the x61 (only the regular 4-cell is available). According to Lenovo's specifications the lightest a x61 can achieve is 3.11 lbs (not counting ac adapter).

jrdba, have you put your notebook on an accurate scale? if so, can you show a pic?

I don't think that was a smart move....may I ask why you didn't go for the t series? Much better performance and specs. people usually get the x61 for ultra portability and nearly 80% of the x series I have seen...people have the extended batt

I got to a school where they recommend the x61t, so nearly every student has one

Does anyone know how well this computer works with gaming, (for games like battlefield 2142, etc...) Mine will have vista home premium with 2gb of ram, core 2 duo 2.2 ghz processor and the nvdia graphicsoption

Which nVidia option do you have?

    570m ~ 8600GT = Great gaming
    NVS140m ~ 8400GS = decent gaming

Either way you will be able to game moderately. If you have the 15.4" notebook with the 570m, you are going to be able to game great.

I can definitely say gaming on the 15.4 T61p is awesome. The first game I tested it on was Battlefield 2142 and there wasn't a stutter, hicup or frame jump in the hour of gaming I played. This was with the graphics option set to High at 1024x768. I haven't been able to benchmark it further down to FPS count and other resolution options, but I am more then satisified with the gaming performance of the 256MB 570m.

I have the NVS140m, I didnt see the option for the 570 on my order screen from the website. Eitherway, I just want to be able to play some real games... I don't need to play console quality games, but I definitely need some good study breaks.
I heard that the t61 doesnt have great options for gaming, I'm glad that I heard otherwise just now

The T61p doesn't have gaming graphics card per say. They are workstation cards. However, they are the same exact hardware as there gaming counter parts. They just have different drivers. The NVS 140m will be able to game decently, just not maxed out on current games.

I thought I would update this thread with my info so I have been using this a lot to help get an idea of when my order was going to ship.

I ordered on 9/3, with a 15inch wide screen. It was shipped today, even though my estimated ship date was 9/20.

    Good luck all.
