Here is the lowdown on ordering this beast...Microcenter lists the display as 1366x768 but the box says 1080p FHD and it surely is. Also, some places list it as having a 6 cell battery but it's only a 4 cell. Not sure why Asus has their specs wrong but they do on the various websites. I almost ordered from Amazon but they couldn't confirm their model had the 750M as their listing only shows integrated graphics. And FYI...Asus does ship a lower end model with the same/similar model number. So be careful where you order from and make sure you're getting the right version. Sams Club seems to list the model correctly and for a decent price too..Ahhh disregard, they list the screen as 1366x768 but I'd bet it's the 1080p as it seems to be wrong all over the web.
ASUS 15.6" Touch Laptop Computer, Intel Core i7-4700HQ, 8GB Memory, 1TB Hard Drive - Sam's Club
As far as processor goes, I am not sure the main differences between the 4700 and 4702. I thought it had something to do with the clock speed and the 4702 being lower voltage or something but you'll want to check that out. Mine has the 4700MQ.

I paid $999 at Microcenter. My store in Michigan has 3 in stock. They have been selling quickly.
I actually wanted the non-touch model for the absolute zero glare screen but its hard to find at the moment besides on eBay. It ends in with model #SB71 I believe.
It appears GenTech PC and Xotic PC may have the touch model in stock. Might give them a try. There is a nice thread in the Asus forum all about the N550. Check it out.
By the way it has an Atheros Quallcomm wifi/Bluetooth card in it and I have had zero disconnects. Watched a ton of Amazon instant videos without a hiccup. My Y510p would disconnect all the time.
Here is info in the 2 processors.

I will jump to that Asus thread now. But before I do I want the community to benefit from my experience as I did appreciate learning from everyone. The issues I read about and found to be real in my case where the following (some may have a solution...):
1-Heat: Even on screen saver the processor loads, with fans at full speed. It could be worked out in the long run with settings. But that strong heat signature says a lot about long gaming sessions, and most importantly the reality of a (im)possible SLI config. You can (should) always buy a cooling pd/fan (make sure it is rated with 60-80 CFM at least, no matter the size). I could barely play Metro 2033 without constantly touching the vents pumping so much heat.
2-The screen is really washed out:This should not happen on a $900 machine, specially a gaming machine with such a good graphic card. This is not about viewing angles but collors/lighting. It will get better with calibration but not much better. Cheap TN panel probably. Feel free to use an external LED screen (like me).
3-Wifi: Do not think that you will escape. I did. Turned out it is a real issue. Not sure if they cheaped out on hardware, or if this a compatibility issue with some routers (but not new with Lenovo). I was willing to buy a USB receiver to bypass this frustrating issue.
4-Touchpad: Someone mentioned the touchpad getting less responsive as time passes. I thought he was crazzy. Turns out my laptop was driving me crazzy with that issue. Although I just double tapped to left click. I only had to deal with a dead right clik once in a while.
5-Many bought these laptops with the SLI option as a unique added feature to possibly future proof it later. Lenovo should respect those users and allow them to return their purchase if the SLI option is not on the table anymore.
Those are basic fundamental issues that Lenovo needs to fix before earning gamers trust/money. It is still a challenge for leading brands to use a slim casing, not without reason (even Razer had to go back to the drawing board).Other than that, the unique design, solid casing and backlighting implementation are really nice, sturdy. I loved it. Hope next Y420p iteration fixes all these Lenovo! -
Buyer beware: The Asus N550JV-DB72T specs list a GT750M with DDR3, not the GDDR5 that Lenovo uses. This puts the Asus at a massive graphical disadvantage. Can someone with a N550JV-DB72T use GPU-Z or similar to verify the GPU memory?
2: I came from an el-cheapo Asus X401A, so I'm used to the screen. It doesn't "WOW!" me, but doesn't bother me either.
3: At first my Wifi was A-OK, but after going to Win 8.1 preview (Utter failure there, BTW) and then restoring my previous backup, I am now having some issues. However going into the Centrino N2230 advanced properties and changing the "802.11n channel width..." to "auto" it's again flawless.
4: I applied synaptic's latest drivers from their website, and tweaked the sensitivity settings to my liking. The TP is now serviceable Still far from great tho.
5: If Lenovo backs away from their SLI promise, I may request a refund. We'll see. That was absolutely a consideration i made when purchasing.
Basically, for what I payed (~$850+tax) I'm estatic with the performance I receive. The Ultrabay was a big consideration to me, so I'll be quite upset if we don't see the modules for it. It's not without its flaws, but the value is definitely there. For me, it's a winner.
Edit: Regarding your 1st point, I see you mention the "screen saver". That's NOT a video that plays. Your computer is rendering that Lenovo screen saver/advert. Turn that ish off! -

One good thing about Lenovo is their hassle free return. Their other support aspects suck major balls.

y410p owners,
I see several "universal" caddies for the ultrabay on amazon and ebay. But non of them indicate if they fit a y410p. Some have positive reviews from y500 owners.
I want to swap my HDD with a SSD and move the HDD to the ultrabay slot. Can anyone provide me a link where I can purchase such a caddy?
And one other issue, according to nvidia's website, gpus with same chips that are overclocked differently by the manufacturer can be used for SLI. I have a 750m and I am wondering if anyone has confirmation of successfully pairing 750m with either 650m or 755m for SLI?
Thanks. -
Just got my 410p in. Screen doesn't seem too bad, coming from an Acer 5740g. Wireless doesn't seem to be having the major problems other people are experiencing (he said while tempting fate) but I've disabled the Bluetooth just in case. Getting some of the nuts and bolts onto it, going to try out the gaming experience in a bit.

Almost all laptops use universal optical bay size/shape standard. Just buy 9.5mm one instead of taller one and it will fit.
-
I bought a 410P for my son, and it too had a dead (or stuck) pixel. I contacted Lenovo, and they swapped it out for a new one. But the new one had a stuck pixel in almost exactly the same spot. I would have thought it was the same machine, but it had a different serial number, and the 2 units crossed in the mail. Thew third time was the charm, and now we're happy. Although I believe the official Lenovo policy is that they won't consider a screen defective unless it has 3 or more bad pixels, neither of the reps I spoke with gave me any trouble at all about replacing the computer. So at least they have that going for them. -
Does anyone have any idea what is too hot for the y410p? When I play games I see peak temps for a brief second going over 90C but for the most time it runs in the mid to low 80Cs. This is all under load of course on the CPU and GPU but I cant tell if this is just too hot? Does anyone have any input?
-
Welp, you know what they say about tempting fate. Not only did the WiFi start misbehaving on the home network (uninstalling the Intel Wifi stuff worked), but while leaving a couple games to download (MWO and LoL), upon returning to my y410p, the screen was black. I figured it was asleep... nope. Power cycled, everything, lights won't even turn on, components aren't even whirring. Time to make an irate phone call to tech support tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure this is headed on the way back.
Personally, this laptop has been a pretty good lesson as to why great sounding specs on paper for a low price aren't always worth it. Little design niggles, like the abrasive, sharp edge of the case where my wrists rest, the tiny right shift key that I manage to miss half the time, needing to futz around with the wireless to make it do complicated things like basic web browsing, or even the fact that it runs noticeably warm on just the 4600 without actually gaming, are things potential buyers should be aware of. I'd probably be singing a completely different tune had the darn thing not just bricked on me, though.
I'm hoping against all hope that customer service doesn't give me a hard time, but I'm considering long and hard whether I just want to return this as opposed to getting a replacement. -
Have anyone tried playing Metro 2033 or Crysis on low/medium settings Y410p? Because of heat alone my unit is going back (yes, I tried different settings including the "power saver mode" when browsing etc... I can still hear the fans as I am typing this...).
It is quite common to find some standard deviation in notebook manufacturing (post QA), you'd be amazed... That's why the value might/might not be there for everyone. Just do your homework before that 30 days deadline, and get those kinks fixed. SLI or not, I doubt Lenovo will refund after 30 days.
Note: I found out Xoticpc offers custom jobs/upgrades on thermal paste (GPU+CPU), copper heat sinks and I am hoping they can upgrade the screen for a better one (?). If possible/reasonable I may consider buying a Y series unit from them. Unless the N550JV/Asus can give me average/good gaming perf with DDR3. Asus is so much better in this challenging area of high perf. notebooks. Let's see. -
Hi Guys, I'm from Kenya and Considering buying this laptop, the one with SSD cache. But reading the increasing bad reviews and Lenovo's increase in price to 1079$ for the ssd version has led me to start looking elsewhere, I found this while looking
XOTIC PC | Sager NP7352 (Clevo W350ST)
Yap, it's a clevo gaming rig GTX 765M Nvidia Graphics and at 988$
No backlit keyboard though, it has mSATA slots for SSD (2) -
I got the warranty department to send me an empty box so I can ship the laptop back to them in Northbay, Ontario. They have recieved it on July 30 2013. They told me the repairs will take about 7 business days. I'm crossing my fingers hoping that this actually works. -
Anyone else have trouble getting the microphone jack to work? I managed to get it to show up as a recording device by choosing "Separate all input jacks as independent input devices," but it's not picking anything up. The built-in mic works fine.
-
Bear in mind: The price you're quoting includes a cash discount (meaning you send a check or money order). In addition, it does NOT come with an OS installed; that's an extra 80-90. If you've got your own disc and code somewhere, that shouldn't be a problem though.
I've been eyeing Clevo laptops, myself.

Hi Everyone, I just received my Y410p today (I went with the one with SSD and 900 monitor). I'm having alot of trouble with it, and close to returning the thing all together. I spent a few hours on the phone with customer support and they are useless - I ended up having to factory restore after their help.
Basically the graphics don't look good. At all. I'm running a game called Heroes of Newerth at the moment and my FPS drops below 30 at times. The game is saved to the SSD (15.6GB free). I originally thought maybe the laptop was using the intel card instead of the nvidia, but I enabled the nvidia GPU activity function and it is showing the game is using the nvidia card. The driver I have installed is 9.18.13.1141 and my power settings are set to high performance. The laptop is plugged in at all times.
I dont know if its the video card, or if the monitor is just bad? Do I just need to update my drivers? Does anyone have a link I can go to? I cant find drivers on lenovo's site.
I was so excited to get this machine, and now I'm just feeling disappointed. My 4 year old mid-range PC blows these graphics out of the water, Thanks in advance. -
Try fiddling with the realtek audio settings. -
Does the mic work in other devices? -

If someone has a Synaptics touchpad, would they try TwoFingerScroll 1.0.9?
TwoFingerScroll v1.0.7 update! (two finger scrolling done right! + more)
I use it on my current HP dv6z-crapbox and it makes the, quite frankly, atrocious and spiteful trackpad okay.
I've also used it on a little Dell Mini 10v and that turned its extremely small and stupid trackpad into something actually wonderful. The only downside after the TwoFingerSroll bit was that the trackpad was the size of a 1/4 of a credit card.
It improved the "numbness" of my HP's trackpad as well. I read that the Lenovo could have the same issue where the trackpad gets worse over time.
It worked on Windows 7 and 8 on the Dell as well.
I don't know if it works on modern touchpads, would someone give it a go? You download, pull up the Task Manager and tell Synaptic's .exe's to take a hike, and then turn it on.
You need to have the Synaptic drivers installed, or else it'll tell you to take a hike. -

I just got my y410p yesterday (900p+ssd). Overall the its an excellent laptop but there is a little gap between the battery and the plastic. Is anyone else getting a creaky noise when u push up the battery or push down on the plastic to the right of the power button?

Could someone post the quality of the webcam ?

Is anyone else getting a gap when pushing down on the plastic between both speakers?

ok thanks, im gonna give lenovo a call.
-
That's a big hand (or rather long fingers) you've got there.
-
5 foot 11' and only 130lbs. Im underweight (not necessarily a bad thing since im a jogger and i'm not anorexic)
Also, my hand was closer to the camera than my arm. -
Cool thanks,
Has anyone been able to put another Wifi card into the Y410p ? I was wondering if it was duel-band because I wanted to replace the wifi card with a 2x2 AC card .
I don't want to go through the hassle of what happened with the y400 where you had to get custom bios . -
Personally, after tweaking a few settings in Windows i am having zero problems with my 2230, and that's with bluetooth *ON*. -
What did ypu twicked in windows jobine? Ty
-
Well, i went into device manager, selected my card, opened the properties, and set the 801.2n mode to Auto.
I then rolled back my drivers to 15.6 using device manager,
After that, i uninstalled Intel PROset software and all my problems went away.
This may or may not work for you. Mileage may vary. -
hello guys .. look a little on the internet about the possible change that will have the current lenovo y410p of the gt 750m -gt 755m .. and found a Chinese website where performed one benchmark of different games ,3dmark 11 y gpu-z .. I hope they serve something I leave the link....and sorry for the bad English.
http://goo.gl/zf0ThH -
Also, the difference between 750M and 755M is 5% according to benchmarks on GPUboss. -
ok ty, i ordered mine and it will arrive this week.. .hopefuly ( i live in EU and had to pay extra custom fees etc but i couldnt find something better in that price ). -
For such a great improvement in Graphics, the 50$ doesn't seem too much, and it has FHD, considering lenovo have backed of from their SLI promise for 410p, the extra amount for a GTX 765M card (Which is almost as good as sli gt 750M) seems a better option.
All I wonder is if they will ship to Kenya, or whether I'll hve to using a forwarding service (Will cost me about an extra 130-150$) still worth it since if it were available locally it would probably retail in the 1400$ range (Ksh 130,000) -
Hello guys,
I contacted lenovo asking them for a full recovery dvd(s) for my y410p, in case the hdd crash or if i would like to replace with an SSD ( without cloning etc etc ) mostly for backup issues, and they told me they dont offer recovery dvds in the time being... does anyone have an iso with fully recovery data for our laptop and can upload it somewhere?
thank you. -

Hi, just noticed my touchpad says it's manufactured by ELAN. Is that the case for everyone? Also, would synaptics be better?
