Got 2 questions for y410p current owners, Does it have keyboard ghosting, can you tell me if these 3 key combo works when you get a chance? All three combo should light up green when all pressed simultaneously. Thanks very much

Second question, does the touchpad have a two finger tap right click??

No ghosting (tested myself) and the 2finger right click can be manually enabled in the ELAN trackpad settings.

    Hey a couple questions:

Do people still have trouble with the WiFi or have driver updates fixed that problem?

How about the touch pad, have software updates fixxed that as well?

And what is this about the second ultrabay and double SLI and lenovo supposedly releasing something?

Lastly, how would you use Optimus to switch between the integrated graphics and dedicated graphics? Thanks!

I'm planning on buying it later today, just some last questions

Just got mine 2 weeks ago, loving every bit of it, just wondering if it is ok to install windows 8.1 on it?

Yes, but i head it has issues if you are using SLI, simply because NV doesnt make drivers for 8.1 yet.

I could be wrong on this, but just make a backup of Win 8.0 and then install win 8.1 or just find a dual boot guide.

Wifi issues are best solved by googling the intel forums for the 2330 card.

Software issues with the touchpad can be solved by updating drives and optionally playing with the config.

750M bays for the Y410P are supposed to come out this month, no news of it however. I'll have to call 'novo again.

Open Nvidia Control Panel, go to 3D settings and choose your preferred graphics processor, or set it to "auto-select" for Optimus.

NO. Stay far, far, far away from 8.1, it's not ready yet. My Y410P on 8.1 developed an issue falling asleep after closing the screen, and waking from sleep. When it wouldn't wake, I had to hold the power button for 5 secs, then power it back up. Eventually, somehow my D3D got nuked after Windows update ran. None of my games would launch. Nothing I tried fixed it. I ended up reverting back to a backup I made before the 8.1 upgrade.

Also, you should know that 8.1 doesn't give you the start button back. In desktop mode you get a windows logo where the Start button used to live, but all that does it take you back to the Metro UI. Just install Classic Shell.

I would just like everyone's opinion on this. I am torn between the Y410p and the upcomming Thinkpad T440s. I'm intrigued by the upcomming Thinkpad because of its likely anti-glare 1080p IPS screen. Added to the fact that it will also have the Haswell upgrade and a dedicated Geforce GT730m. This I believe makes that Thinkpad indeed capable of light gaming. So my dilemma is, I have an on order Y410p coming that I paid a total of $750 with tax through various discounts through Lenovo, or I can go for the Thinkpad that is coming up which will probably be around $1000. Do you think the Y410p is a good laptop to keep? Does its performance far outdo the Y series? I'm really torn between the 2.....

I'm curious what discounts you used that lowered the Y410p price to $750 with tax, mind sharing?

I forgot to add, if your budget is not limited to under 800, and you want a laptop with 1080p reso I would suggest looking at the Asus N550JV. Its $939, Haswell, GT 750M, 1080p, and looks gorgeous to boot. If I had the budget i would buy Asus over Lenovo.

T440S will likely have integrated graphics or a Nvidia Quadro.

    Idk, T440s for work, Y410P for gaming/media?

At that price you are better off getting a Sager NP7330/Y510P SLI anyways.

Asus actually is supposed to have better battery life for your everyday tasks. The build quality is supposedly more solid as well, the screen's better, and it doesn't run quite as hot. In exchange, you lose the enhanced 750m (Asus has much slower memory in their version), you tack on a pound to the weight, and the speakers aren't as good as the Y410p's.

If you do decide to go with Asus, definitely get it from one of the tax free websites if you're not in NY; the 80 or so in tax you'll save takes the difference in price down substantially.

I just ordered the Lenovo Y410P yesterday and today I read about the Asus N550JV. I got the Lenovo Y410P with Blu Ray and the 24 GB SSD for $919 in Canada (excluding tax and 2 year warranty). Just wondering its a bad deal and that the Asus N550JV would be approximately the same cost in Canada?

    The Asus:
    - Is a 15 incher
    - Weights 6 pounds (like the Y510PI) vs 4.85 for the Y510P
    - 1080p matte screen (like the Y510P)
    - 4 Cell battery with Optimus (consequently, battery life is worse than the Optimus-enabled Y410P, but equal to the SLI Y510P since it lacks optimus)
    - Costs 1119$ in Canada (VS 800-850 for the Y510P, and vs 1099 for the Y510P SLI) (SOURCE: AMAZON)
    - Is thinner than both Y510p/Y510p
    - Comes with an i7-4700HQ instead of i7-4700MQ (which means it can turbo 100mhz higher)

All in all you are better off getting a Y410P/HP ENVY Quad if you want the same specs for a lower price or for the same price get a Y510P which has two 750m's instead of one :)

Also, ASUS has worse customer support than Lenovo (in my experience).

I have had absolutely no problems with my laptop at all. I find it a huge upgrade from my other. I get 250fps average on Minecraft whereas my old one got 20. I play World of Tanks with usually 70fps. I couldn't ask for better. At least not for my needs.

I went from the Y510p SLI to the N550JV touch screen model with a non-touch screen model on the way also, to compare. I can tell you hands down the build quality is much better on the Asus with it's all metal construction and very solid palm rest. It has minimal flex on the bottom when holding with one hand. Also the heat vents to the rear so you feel nothing on either side while gaming. It is true that the 750M it has is only DDR3 RAM but I still get great FPS in my games with a few adjustments. Also really like the cooling in this N550JV compared to the Y510p. It features dual cooling fans that vent to the rear and it's very quiet compared to the Y510p while at full load which sounded like a jet engine while gaming. Not sure how the Y410p sounds though.

Here are the GPUboss scores for the 8790M vs 750M

Radeon HD 8790M vs GeForce GT 750M

And here are the CPUBoss scores for the A8-5550m vs i7-4700MQ

(despite the radeon having a higher GPUboss score, it actually performs worse in some games and in some benchmarks, so its on par with the 750m/755m)

    Intel Core i7 4700MQ vs AMD A8 5550M

(A8 has a lower TDP but i7 is more performant and uses less power on idle)

    ---------------------------------------------------

tl;dr it's a Y410P for AMD fanboys, specs are mostly the same, and if the Y485 ends up being cheaper than the Y410P it will come out as a winner.

    1) What can you do with the ultrabay in the Y410P.
    2) What is the 24GB SSD Cache for in theY410P

    1) By default, it comes with a DVD burner. You can swap it for:
    - An extra 750M card, which gives you SLI, and equals a 765-770M
    - A caddy that can hold an extra 2.5 inch SATA drive (Very nice if you want Raid 0 on a laptop)
    - A fan to help cool the laptop (useless since it cools the wrong side of the laptop lol)
    - A Blu-Ray Burner

    2) All your startup files and most used apps and files will be stored on a M.2 NGFF 42mm Drive (which is faster than any Msata SSD) and it will increase the launch speed your preferred data and radically improve boot times. Is it worth 50$? I think yes, mainly because NGFF drives are not sold to the public, and the performance levels are near those of a pure SSD for your commonly used stuff.

do not think so because the intel i7 4700m is much more expensive than the AMD version ... besides amd graphics cards are better if money .. perhaps they have a price of between 600-700 dollars when applying the typical discounts lenovo.

Yeah, but the performance is probably lower.

Im not expert about APU's, but i know that on the desktop, a Core i5 will outperform an AMD eight-core in just about any game.

Intel has more power per clock, and the i7 @ 2.4-3.4ghz will outboogie the A8 @ 2.1-3.1 ghz

But we shall wait to see the prices, heck, if that thing is 600$ it will dominate the market.

for that reason it is cheaper .. A10-5750m amd is drastically surpassed by i7 for laptops. single compared to i3 .. but its main attribute is that it is the graphics processor 8650g hg if beats hd 4600m .. to top it off you can do Dual graphics power increases combining the hd hd 8790m + 8650g .. sli.claro something like Nvidia is not as effective as sli because the power of integrated and dedicated graphics card are not the same .. but if it gets as better performance in games that take advantage of this technology know.

Well I fixed the annoying gap by applying 2 layers of electric tape on the inner part of the battery which made the clicking go away. I think most y410p's have this gap since the plastic between both speakers is quite thin causing the clicking between the unit and the battery. I'm OCD when it comes to my belongings lol, so I ended up calling Lenovo for a refund due to this "defect". They sent me a electronic label and I shipped my y410p back to their returns depot in Missisauga Ontario. I inquired about the 15% restocking fee and he said that there is no restocking fee and that I would be credited for the full amount (laptop + 2 year warranty).

Overall its a powerhouse of a laptop, with decent build quality. I would have asked for a replacement but this laptop is too bulky for me, the trackpad is horrible, and the screen is meh... I'm probably going to end up buying a Clevo/Sager W230ST from reflexnotebook.

Hi! I have a question... I'm kind of new with laptops, and I wanted to buy a caddy to my Y410P. I checked and there are a lot of generic caddies, but I can't find a place where it says which ones are compatibles with my laptop. So, my question is, any caddy will do? Do I have to check any spec? Is there a recommended one?

    Thanks!

Isn't GT755M supposed to be on OCd version of 750? I found this in notebookcheck.

"PCIe 3.0 is now supported by the mobile Kepler series and GPU Boost 2.0 can automatically overclock the card if the laptop cooling system allows it. This feature is available on any notebook with a graphics card of the 700M series."

The Y510p will also be outfitted with the GT755m. I don't know of any other changes other than that they are going to go back to the matte screen they offered when the current Y510p was initially released, as well as putting it on the upcomming Y410p.

Thanks for the reply, I ended up running a fingernail in-between the 2 pieces and the clicking has stopped for me. I may have to take advantage of the no hassle return. I was expecting a 14 inch laptop, not a 14 inch screen in a 15.6" build. Also, is anyone else's trackpad lower where the right and left clicks are? Mine seems to cave in a little on the lower corners, not sure if this is normal or not.
