i cant get the caddy to work with the 1 TB. It seems that it fits good, but it doesnt recognize it anywhere ( diskpart/bios etc )

I can't get the WiFi stable on my y410p.
I've tried the 15.8 drivers, the 15.6 ones, and the 14.8 (default windows 8). None of them work consistently.
The only thing that works is if I switch my actiontec mi424wr rev i router back and forth between performance (N only) and compatibility (n/g/b) mode.
But then, if I put the notebook to sleep, or even go up / downstairs, it stops working. It will say "Connected" but internet won't work. At that point, nothing I can do on the notebook itself will fix the wifi. I've tried changing drivers, disable / re-enable, disconnect, reconnect, forget network, etc. I've also tried going back and forth between 20mhz and auto, but that doesn't help either. The only thing that works is connecting wired, going to my router, and flipping the mode between compatibility and performance. It doesn't matter which it's on, only that it changes. Which sounds like I have to restart the wifi on the router to get the notebook to talk to it again. It gets the same IP address each time.
Anyone have any experience with this? My Actiontec router doesn't have any settings for "channel bonding" or "mixed" mode, nor "channel width", which were all recommendations from the intel forums.
Maybe it's the router's fault? My older apple devices also struggle with this router. They will drop and reconnect a lot unless it's in performance mode. But the y410p is fine in either mode if I don't move around the house.
Not sure if I should just return the notebook or get a new router (making the notebook more expensive ...) -

Might be caused by locked bios. -

Are you running Windows 7 or 8? I heard theres issues with Windows 7. -

The irony is that if you remove McAfee, you get a free antivirus (Windows Defender) which is by far one of the best AV's.
Also, the Wireless-N 2230 is present in just about any Lenovo Laptop, ive seen it in the following models:
- Thinkpad Edge
- Thinkpad T (some)
- Ideapad S
- Ideapad Z
- Ideapad U
- Thinkpad X230
But not just Lenovo, lots of intel Laptops have this chip. -

Back on topic:
Best wireless card ive seen in my life? Sounds dumb, but the Dell-1395 Wireless-G card served me over 5 years and i never had a single disconnection from it, ever. It's based on a broadcom 4312. But if you buy a laptop from Dell these days, they all come with a Wireless-N 2230 or a Killer Wireless-N 1202, both of which are famous for the issues in this thread -

Hi fellas, got my computer yesterday and so far I have mixed impressions. Although generally I am impressed with the keyboard, specs, etc, there are some things that bugging me about this laptop.
1. I'm a little concerned with the hinges on this thing. Can anyone attest to their durability? Now I know that these arn't thinkpad build quality but they seem plasticy. Are other laptops brands like this or is a lenovo ideapad thing?
2. It's kinda weird to see the pixels on the screen.
3. The clickpad is usable but for some reason, there is a lot of resistance when I press on the right middle edge of it. The left side edge (around the midpoint of the clickpad) works fine but the right side seems to squeak, dig in a bit, and and acts like a deadzone unless I press REALLY hard. -
2. What do you have 768p or 900p? On my 900p i can see the pixels but only if i put an effort into it.
3. Go into the touchpad settings, disable some unused multitouch features like rotation, and watch your trackpad become 1000x more responsive. As for the dig-in, it is designed that way so you can feel where the trackpad is without looking at it.
Also, Lenovo has a no bullsh*t return policy, if you are unhappy you can always return for a full refund, this may help if you accidentally bought the 768p screen, 900p is a recommended upgrade and has better colors than the 768p, according to rumors and previous y400 owners. -
Heres what i recommend:

So it was a y500 caddy? :/

i guess so, the guy on ebay was stating as y410p ( not even y400 ) anyway it works like a charm and this is the most important, i ll get an other one someday soon, they are cheap.
Anyway my disk setup now is:
128gb SSD - Win 8, office, some programs maybe a game.
24gb SSD - The most played game, some files maybe
1 TB HDD - Music, Videos, Files .. not much because the laptop is mainly in my home which i have a server-pc and i map the storage from it on my pcs-laptop and also streaming to tv, so i ll think if i even need this, i have a month, if i see i dont use it that much i ll go for the sli ... if they have released it by then .
guys do your self a favor and clean install windows... dont bother uninstalling bloatware. -
-
After that you install the drivers and you are good to go. btw i had some issues with the wifi but after clean install and with the stock win 8 driver everything works fine. -
awesome, thanks!

Sorry if this is a noob question but I just bought this laptop and installed games on it like counter strike source and its laggy. There is so much lag and I think its using integrated graphics because counter strike source should be able to run smoothy on this computer. How do I check to see whether this laptop is running on integrated graphics or 750m when I'm gaming?
I heard some where that this laptop switches graphics to save energy. Is this true? Is there an off and on switch for the 750m? -

If there isn't a way, do you know if the Thinkpad you posted can do any gaming? I would like on that can do both.

Hey jobine did you ever have any problems running Brawl on Dolphin? On my y400 it works flawlessly, until I actually start a match. At that point it always freezes after the 3,2,1 countdown.
-
I need help.. I'm trying to play counter strike source on this laptop but its laggy as . It looks like vertical sync is on because its giving me a constant 60 fps. I want it off. I tried going through nvidia control panal > manage 3d settings > global settings and i set verticle sync off but it still gives me a constant 60 fps. I have it set on off in game too. I even set all my settings in game to the lowest and it still gives me 60 fps.
I want to play my games on the smoothest settings. Whoever plays css on this laptop what settings did you change?
What should I set my settings in nvidia control panel? should I use global settings or program settings?
This is my first laptop ever. I have a 3 year old desktop that plays games better than this laptop. Normally for laptops do you have to set settings in nvidia control panel before you play games? On desktop everything is done in game. I bought this laptop because im moving for school and planned on doing some gaming on this laptop. I feel like throwing this laptop out my window. -

Hi guys, I have a weird problem with my Y410p. Suddenly from a few hours, I hear a certain beep when I'm in startup or shutdown. This beep occurs for a split second after the startup lenovo logo and before the W8 lock screen; and for a longer time after the "Shutting down..." screen goes away and the screen stays blank before the laptop turns off. It is not of the same frequency as the small beep that one can hear immediately after pressing the power button, it's higher.
Has anyone had a problem like this? Should I be worried? The laptop seems to be working fine, but this is bothering me. -

Do you have problems with your wi-fi card at all? -
Does anyone know how to turn on the "Always on USB"?

Hey, I have a question. It's probably answered but i cant seem to find it in the past 80 pages or so. How do the two graphic cards work on the laptop. I just got mine today and I'm not sure how the two cards switch and what not. And how am i supposed to know which one is currently running? Thankss!

2. 3D settings
3. Preferred graphics processor:
- Integrated Graphics (this is the Intel 4600, good for battery life bad for high end games)
- Auto-Select (This is Optimus, where the PC detecs the application and uses the appropriate GPU)
- High-Performance Nvidia Processor (this is the Nvidia 750M, good for games but bad for battery life) -
