It seems they messed up the listing on their website too, since the 900p 755M costs less than the 768p one... oh da Chinese peopre....

And i bet you 10$ this guy runs the Lenovo website:

Heard alot of good things about lenovo laptops and came across the 40% sale. Decided that since as a university student that has a lot of courses that requires design software, i should invest in a laptop with heavier specs. I also game too (Total war series, company of heroes, BF3 etc.) so 750M is perfect for me. Anyway, ordered it yesterday, bloody shipping is as followed:
estimated ship date: 2013/09/09
estimated delivery date: 2013/09/16
my study term starts on Sept 8.... i heard their shipping is bad but i didn't expect it to be this bad.... -
Calll 'novo about the status of your shipping. Rumor has it, if you complain enough, they will throw in a 50$ gift card. -
When I ordered mine it had a very far off estimated shipping date, but it shipped much earlier than what was first listed. My hunch is that estimated means worst case scenario.
-
Well I tried out a bunch of stuff and also checked out another Y410p (Granted is was in 768p) and it didn't seem to have the same problems that mine was. I presume that I just got a bad laptop go I'm going to call up Lenovo chat and ask for a discounted replacement. Good luck to me I guess.

I'm bad with puns -
My laptop just arrived a few hours ago and I've been updating/uninstalling/etc. but this touchpad is driving me crazy. What did you guys do again to make it less aggravating? I can't be bothered to go through all of the pages in this thread again... (and thanks again in advance, Jobine)
Other than that, it seems to be running really well after getting all of the updates applied. I did a quick test with BioShock Inf and it ran great, my only mild concern was it getting hot in one spot near the vents. I don't plan on gaming all too often, so it shouldn't be much of an issue. I'm leaving it on the Intel HD at all other times and it stays extremely cool and I can hardly hear the fan. -
-
Hi guys, can we get anaglyph 3D working on this laptop? I know nVidia says 750M is "3D vision ready", (I assume they're talking about stereoscopic) but not sure if the laptop manufacturers really enable the 3D options in their models. I don't see any 3D options in the nvidia control panel. Thoughts?

Hi, anyone getting irregular fan problems after doing anything straining the system, like playing a game? It periodically increases than decreases in intervals. Is this normal?

Just tested my Y410P out running Star Citizen's Hangar module. I was getting about ~35 FPS avg. on high settings at 1280x720 resolution.

Hi there,
Just got my Y410p around 3 days ago, and I've been following this thread ever since. I need some help here.....
1. The hotkey manager. After I installed windows 7, I can't find the hotkey manager anywhere, including the factory drivers. Googling it reveals some drivers, but NOT designed for Y series (yes, including Y500, Y400). I'm at lost here. I'm ok with no OSD, but some of the keys are not working....
2. Touchpad. I hate it when they move to apple-esque touchpad... I can't use it with two hands.....And the touchpad seems to be jaggy and jumps a lot (mine is Synaptics)
As for what I've done to my Y410p, I already opened it (cracked one of the hook, bummer). Found it to have a Qualcomm WLAN (on contrast to Intel ones, which seems to be causing a lot of disconnections), and it has a 1 x 8gb Samsung DDR3 12800 module (I don't know if someone has it also. AFAIK, most of you said it is 2 x 4gb).
Anyway, if someone could help with those problems (particularly for the hotkey) I would appreciate it. Thank you. -
Hi Guys New in the forum
I got this awesome laptop around 2 weeks ago, and is frikin amazing !!! I have finished Bioshock Infinite and currently I'm playing Tomb Raider, later ill play the newly released Castlevania Lord of Shadiws for PC. I changed the the hard drive and change it for a OCZ Technology 128GB Vertex 4 Series (small I know I already know how to deal with small HDs and I have a NAS so no big deal)and this computer got even more amazing ! you can see how it boots Windows 7 with the following link
Lenovo Y410p Boot SSD - YouTube
However ...
Issue 1 - Im having some issue with the wireless card, the first one some strange reason 2 out of 3 times when it boots the wireless card just turns off, or at least that is the message I got from Intel Proset Wireless Wifi Connection Utility and guess what I don't see the option to turn it on back, the only way to fix this is to reboot the PC again u until it comes back again. later I uninstalled the Intel Proset but still I am having this issue
Issue 2 - When the wireless card wants to work, when downloading from Steam it just wont let download any game it just give an error, that the connectivity was lost was lost in the middle of the download, I disabled the bluetooth in the device manager as recommend by you guys but Im still having this issue. currently using 15.7.0.3 Drivers for N-2230 - Windows 7 Ultimate any suggestions.
Besides that I have 2 questions:
1 - I would like to change the wireless card to maybe a Dual Band N or an AC wireless card, is there any restriction ?
2- Big question is there this laptop is going to support a second 750M graphics cards ? I have read that this is not coming, not even In a hundred years, is this true ?
3 - Is there a keyboard with ñ ?, Im from Panama ( the one form central america, not florida) , spanish speaker
hope that some one answer my questions = D
BTW some know how to fix the Red Light of Death on a Nexus 4 ? ... -
-
2. Apparently it will, sometime next month they are supposed to announce it. I don't mind since I am getting great performance from just a single 750M, and most of the time I leave it on integrated graphics to save power.
3. Just use an international keyboard setup under settings. IIRC you can just hold down the `~ key while pressing n when using a spanish keyboard set up.
Go to "Control Panel\Clock, Language, and Region\Language" click on English (United States) ... "options", then "Add an input method", search for [QWERTY] United States-International Keyboard layout or similar; then "Add".
Once it shows up you can either select to use that and/or delete the old default keyboard.
You should be able then to do ñ, á é í ó ú in no time by pressing first the accent and then the letter
Then hold Ctrl and Alt + ! to make ¡
Then hold Ctrl and Alt + ? to make ¿
2. I uninstalled the pre-loaded synaptics driver and downloaded the one off their site: Drivers | Synaptics
I found it allows for much easier configuration. The biggest difference was adjusting the sensitivity and getting rid of some of the extra multi-touch gestures. I'm actually enjoying the two finger scroll and other features, and I also added a right click tap section in the lower right hand side of my touchpad. You can customize your touchpad to whatever functions you want. I would also increase the speed of the two finger scroll if you plan on using it.
3. I have an intel wlan N 2230 and it's been giving me issues (see above). Not sure why yours shipped with different components, and you may want to consider returning or exchanging. Not sure on my RAM configuration because I haven't tried opening it up yet.
Another note, the 1 TB drive was ridiculously slow at first (took forever to boot into desktop), but ever since I turned off the Lenovo Energy Manager: Disk Drive Power Saver setting it's improved noticeably. I am still considering swapping it out for an SSD and putting the 1 TB drive in the ultrabay slot whenever I need it. I'll have to look into that when I have a chance. Otherwise, things have been working really well and I'm overall extremely pleased. I had slight buyers remorse due to the terrible touchpad drivers and the size of the bezel but I got over it. Once I fixed the touchpad issues (and hopefully the wireless card next) I started to finally enjoy using it; simply put this machine is a beast, runs extremely cool, and lasts surprisingly long on battery when using the integrated gpu. -
After reading all the comments here, I took the plunge on the Y410P when Lenovo had a good sale on it for $789 for the 1600x900 model. Unfortunately I ended up returning it due to many of the problems people were having here. Their customer service line is weird in that each time I called, I would have to let it ring over 15-20 times before it picked up and I was put through the automated system. You would think it would pick up after 1-2 rings. Also the person that answered the phone asked me why I was returning it, but didn't seem to care or have any suggestions about the wireless issue, or offer to discount the machine. Sent it back last week and still waiting for it to get credited to my account.
Cons:
1. Vertical viewing angles were pretty bad. If you move at all while using the computer you will definitely notice it.
2. Screen was washed out. I followed the advice of someone here and set the display to "Picture" mode and that made the colors a little better.
3. The wireless issue is ridiculous. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to work consistently and often just kept manually disconnecting and reconnecting to my router until I got a working connection. And even then, I might lose Internet access randomly (even though I stayed connected to my router). FYI, I have other computers on the same router and all of them work fine.
4. I would often get dropped to desktop in the middle of playing games, and it was not because I was hitting the Windows key.
5. For all the hype about JBL speakers, I found them pretty disappointing. They didn't sound much better (if at all) over my Samsung Series 9 13 inch ultrabook speakers.
Pros:
1. Great value and performance for the price.
2. I liked the overall look of the machine, the red backlight, and the keys. I think it is pretty tasteful, especially compared to some of the gaudy design aesthetics used by MSI and Alienware. You could definitely use this machine in a professional setting.
3. I liked the size of the keys, and the fact that they didn't try to cram a number pad onto the machine (like the Y510P). The right shift key is smaller than preferred though.
3. I found the build quality pretty good, and definitely not horrible as others have mentioned.
4. I did not get the included SSD but found that I booted to desktop login screen really quickly, in less than 10 seconds on the 5400 RPM hard drive. -
The wireless they're using is an Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230. It's been infamous in the net to be very picky on routers and causing a lot of random disconnections. Why Lenovo is using it? Perhaps to cut down the cost.....
You can change the wireless card, but I've read somewhere that only certain types of wireless cards are accepted by its BIOS. I've been looking for the list but couldn't find it..... -
- G series
- Edge Series
- Z series
- S series (Both Think and Idea)
- Some U series
- Some T series
- Thinkpad Twist
This card is a little hard to avoid. The list of whitelisted WLAN cards is located in the Laptop's user manual. But there is a way to "fix" this card, just uninstall PROset, reboot, head over to Device Manager, find your card, Properties, Driver, if the driver number is 15.x, Uninstall it, reboot, and then you should be using the stock 14.8 drivers, which have little to no issues. -
@Volat1le
So you got a defect "washed-out" screen? Or were you just expecting an IPS?
As for the Wifi, it's an incredibly easy fix, you could have just pm'ed me and i could have fixed it. All you need to do is uninstall PROset, then uninstall a driver in the Device Manager and then you can use the much more reliable 14.8 drivers. -
@0rion
1. You using 14.8 or 15.x drivers?
2. The laptop uses Lenovo QuickBoot technology, which is the same technology found in some Thinkpads. -
Finally I solved my Hotkey problem. Apparently the Hotkey manager is being merged with Energy Management software. I tried installing the version 8.0 (which is for windows 8) and it won't show me the hotkey's OSD. But if I installed the version 7.0, it will show the hotkeys, but Brightness is a bit buggy (the bar won't change).
As for the WLAN card, Lenovo also shipped with Qualcomm Atheros chip, which is actually better than getting the Intel ones.... -

I just started experiencing another issue. So far it's only happened while on battery, but the screen backlight randomly fluctuates up and down in brightness. It's extremely annoying and is starting to bother my eyes. Anyone else run into this issue? I'll have to call customer support if I can't find a fix.
-
Try uninstalling Youcam/killing the webcam background task, i think that's what causes your issue. -
Where I can find the 14.8 for the intel wireless card ? I have installed many 15.x drivers I wont be able to rollback up to 14.8, also Windows 7 does not comes with thies 14.8 drivers..
-
Edit: No webcam process currently running, needless to say I'm confused. Do LED backlights have the same inverter issues as LCD? I'm also wondering if it might not be a battery issue. I'll go get my power brick and test that theory out. -
- Uninstall Intel WiFi Dashboard
- Uninstall adapter from Computer Management, DO also uninstall drivers.
- Restart computer
- (do the last step 3 or 4 times, until you reach Microsoft drivers 14.8.8.75, date 5-12-2011)
- If the 14.8 drivers dont appear, make sure to install all Windows updates + try letting Windows search the drivers for you. The 14.8 driver is build into C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\NETwNe64.sys -
I just tested it a few times and it definitely has something to do with the battery. The second I unplug it the screen brightness begins fluctuating again.
It seems as if it's not able to regulate the amount of current being used by the backlight. I'll call up customer support and see if they say anything about it.
Edit: Called Lenovo rep (they were really helpful and gave me a direct line for future use) - they are going to send me a new battery to see if that fixes it, if that doesn't I'll have to send it in to the depot, but I may just return it for a refund. We'll see how it goes, I just wish I didn't have this problem since I was starting to like the y410p. -
-
I'm intrigued by hearing that some of these are shipping with Qualcomm WLAN cards now. The suggestion to rollback drivers to 14.8 and disable bluetooth has made the wireless acceptable, but it's still noticeably a downgrade from my previous laptops, in terms of a steady connection. What's the exact model of the Qualcomm chip that's shipping with Y410Ps, and is it something I'd be able to drop into mine while still using secureboot?

I wouldn't mind an extra battery either. If only Lenovo gave the y410p the 72wh battery instead of a 48wh one.
-
I had to put down $74 collateral for the battery
It's definitely not a setting issue, the screen brightness just slowly flickers dimmer and brighter while on battery power. -
But having a spare battery is always good, especially once you wear out your first one

Although I see a new AC card there, I don't see any reference to "Qualcomm". (Unless Liteon, or Broadcom makes the cards for them) -
Does that mean those are alternate cards that will make it through secure boot?
-
I thought this was just a setting that the integrated intel graphics card does when running on battery? -
I think this has something to do with Onekey Theather. Try uninstalling it. -

For the people who has a touchpad issues (or simply hate the non-separable buttons design), user 0rion has helped me a lot with his suggestion (for those who got Synaptics. I don't know about Elantech).
http://forum.notebookreview.com/ide...wners-information-thread-108.html#post9352328
The original driver from Synaptics is WAY better than the ones provided by Lenovo. It allows for deeper customization and fixes some of the jumpy and jaggy pointer movements.
For the ones who wants to "simulate" having a separate touchpad buttons, you can use the Smart Sense options from the touchpad settings. There you can set which areas are sensitive to tracking and tapping. So I disabled the areas around the bottom part of my touchpad, and set the filter activation time to 0. So far I'm quite satisfied.
Other thing to ensure better experience in using the touchpad, try to disable most of the "gimmicks", such as 3-4-5 fingers multitouch, rotation, and zooming. I only use 2 fingers scrolling in mine.
Hope that helps! And thanks again for the assistance.
