I've got my 1TB Crucial installed. However, when I try to install Windows, it tells me: "The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key." However, this is the torrent I found and used. Is it different from the one I found that Jobine posted? Has anyone got either to work? At no point is there a prompt to enter a license. Is the M500's encryption doing something to cause this? After that message pops up, it allows me the option of trying to install again, which results in the same message, or the option to repair my computer, which has many options that seem arcane to me.

Ok so I managed to fix the screen a bit by playing with the resolution and then doing a bunch of other stuff that magically solved it somehow.

Now, how safe/easy is it to OC some of the cores on this CPU? (Only need like 2 OCed)

I personally would avoid OCing the CPU. OC the GPU if you need a little more performance.

You couldn't oc the CPU if you wanted to, the unlocked BIOS is not even out yet.

For starters, to OC your GPU, do a 39mhz core and 200mhz memory, this will give you a 755M and will only generate an extra 2-3°C.

Well I decided to try a battery drain/recharge and the screen problems went away. I don't know what's going on exactly. I may have done something else that fixed it, so I'll keep toying around.

Edit: FOUND IT! So it was not a battery issue at all, but rather part of the Intel HD software. There's an option on the Intel HD control panel called "Display Power Saving Technology" - it automatically lowers/raises the backlight to save battery power. It was really fidgety for me and once I turned it off it went away altogether. Here's a screenshot of what I'm talking about:

    Display Issue Solved.png

You can either turn it off or slide it to maximum quality, either option gets rid of the issue.

So now you can send back the battery? Or will you just send in back the laptop altogether?

I thought it was the integrated gpu because my last laptop did this exact same thing. I just could never find where to fix the settings. Nice job man thanks!

I've been reading over the thread and the comments on the display seem to be rather lukewarm at best.

So how is the display actually compared to other typical displays from laptops in the sub $1000 price range?

For the 900p screen, compared to most in the $800-1000 range Id' say its among the top ones. It does have its issues, and since it's a TN, the viewing angles aren't all that great, but the color and brightness are both outstanding. It's a glossy screen which can also be an annoyance if you're around outside lighting, but the LED backing is extremely bright so I hardly notice any glare. I went with the 900p version and I think it's perfect for the screen size; 1080p would be too much honestly. I don't know anything about the 768p version, but hopefully someone can enlighten you if you're considering that version.

    900p @ 14' offers the same density than 1080p @ 15'6

768p screen apparently has more washed-out colors because a cheaper panel is used.

Rumor has it the 900p screen in the Y410p is the same one as the X1 carbon. Go figure.

Honestly, it's bittersweet man. My last laptop had an antiglare 1080p screen that was very bright and had really nice black levels. So I definitely liked my last laptops screen better for watching/editing videos. However, that computer was also about $1100 and a 15.6". My Y410p config was $800.

This laptop's 900p configuration is also much nicer looking when playing games if you are comparing it to the 1080p Y510p screen with the same single 750m gpu. Obviously 1080p is more demanding on the gpu so games are going to run more beautifully in the native resolution of the 900p Y410p.

If you're simply comparing it to other screens, it's really not the greatest in my opinion, BUT for the price it's amazing.
Why I'm satisfied with this 900p screen:
    • Games look incredible on the native resolution
    • Bright, crisp, and glare isn't that bad
    • Cheaper than other laptops with equally impressive screens.

    ^It's a winner compared to the Dell 15R SE, a similar-priced laptop.

Plus, it's one hell of a bright screen. On mid brightness, it ties with my 17R SE which is on full brightness (hence why i *REALLY* advise dimming the screen to improve battery life)

I've got my laptop up and running with my new Crucial M500. However, three things are failing to install. The audio, Widi, and Intel Management Engine Interface drivers all fail to install. That last one is listed under chipset, though I did successfully install the drivers labeled Chipset Driver for Windows 8 (64-bit). The management engine and audio drivers successfully put several files into my drivers folder, but once they proceed to the setup, the setup simply aborts. The Widi drivers say that my machine isn't compatible with Widi. I fear that I need to install newer WLAN drivers to get it to work. Does anyone have experience with Intel's 16.1 WLAN drivers? I'd very much like to get Widi working.

Edit: experimentally I turned down EMET 4.0 to recommended settings instead of maximum, and that got the Management Engine and audio drivers to install. No luck with WiDi, though.

How is the display for movies as well?

Is the black levels okay, image in the dark? Mostly going to be using it in lowlight/dark conditions.

Mainly trying to decide with this versus the Asire Aspire V7. Most the display vs performance essentially.

I think I'm just going to order the y410p though since the return policy is good.

I'm having an issue with playing games. My games will be randomly minimized. It seems to have something to do with key presses or the touchpad. Honestly, I don't know. I've cleared all the bloatware from the computer, used a system restore point, tried different resolutions, and nothing works. I'm about to send it back and get my money back because this is a huge issue.

I've tried to leave the task manager up but I can't see anything.

Not sure if I believe it or not... but a Lenovo sales rep just said they're expecting to have the Y410P Ultrabays available by the end of the month (including the GT750M Ultrabay).

Hi guys, may I know how much is Y400 and Y410P in US?
    I found some reseller in my country ( Malaysia ) sell Y400 Y410P at extremely cheap price, around RM1999 - 2200 for Y400 - Y410P
    currency exchange 1USD : 3.3MYR
I wonder where they get the unit and able to sell for that cheap. They claim that it is US set

I wonder what kind of performance you get from 750/755M SLI @ 900p.

right now i theoretically have a 755 due to a nifty overclock, i'm thinking overclocking the second card.... wanna see how dual 755 performs...

If any Y510p owner wants to do 39mhz core 200mhz memory on theirs and then do a benchmark, that would be nice.

I've been trying to figure out how to fix this damn wireless connectivity issue for a while now. I uninstalled PROSet, but I can't seem to be able to find older drivers to rollback in Windows 8. I'm still experiencing random disconnects every 10-30 minutes. I just flick airplane mode on and off and it starts working again immediately, but I still end up losing my skype calls, etc.

Edit: Nevermind, just saw on the y510p thread how to solve this, will be doing so immediately, thanks.

    Uninstall PROset Wifi.
Head to device Manager, find the card, properties, driver, Uninstall the driver if it is 15.x or 16.x.
    Reboot 2 times.
Then you should be using 14.8 drivers.

You're having to install all these drivers again so I'm guessing you did a clean install of Windows 8 on to your new SSD? I have read from other users that WiDi does work, but it was not the simplest thing to configure. Do you have the latest .net framework4 driver? intel wifi dashboard?

This screen is far better than the Acer Aspire V7 because, from what I've seen at least, the Aspire V7 only comes with 720p configuration.
The dark levels on the Y410p 900p screen are not as fantastic as my last 1080p screen laptop, but they are not horrible. It's definitely far better than other laptops in this same price range.

I'll try this when I get out of class. There are a few other things about it though that might help.

    - When I do get minimized, I can't really press any keys for 1 to 2 seconds, otherwise I'll get minimized again. There was a case when I couldn't hit ESC throughout my entire session or I'd get minimized.

    - I tried to change my res ingame (desktop is still set to the native res). now when it gets minimized it always goes to the Windows 8 settings screen (the settings screen that looks like it was modeled on the iPad settings screen).

    - I've updated my video drivers to the current version supported by Lenovo. Still happens.
    I appreciate the help man.

I found on some old posts a discussion about the TDP of the nvidia gt 755m.
How did it end? I still can't find any information regarding the 16W TDP being a typo or not.

Hey guys. I have some information regarding the removable graphics option on the y410p model. I spoke with a sales rep this morning, and he at first claimed that no graphics option for this model would be coming out, and that it would only be available on the y510p. I explained to him that I had found some part numbers relating to it in the hardware maintenance manual and asked him about the GT750M5 (part number for the y510p graphics) and that the only difference between the y410p and y510p options was the outer casing and that the PCB part was identical.... He said that it probably exists though no American sales reps know about it yet and he explained how it's probably released in China but has not been released yet due to Lenovo being slow with release of accessories in the USA market.

I did some more searching and it seems that the y410p graphics card does in fact exist and only in China at this point. The part number is GT750M4 (who would have ever guessed right :p ) and it will require a 170w power adapter.

There are high-resolution pictures and details posted over at a Chinese mobile-leaks BBS ( hxxp://bbs.dospy.com/thread-16416441-1-141-1.html ) and I also located a seller on Taobao that was selling the sets for about $245.

Perhaps if you call and ask for that part number, they will have information or can special order it for you (longshot, but my sales rep was quite a nice guy)

    Good luck guys!

Here's a quick comparison photo between the GT750M4 and GT750M5, the green part is what was removed from the M4 model and the yellow is what was added. The other sides look to be the same other than the fan cutouts being different.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how i would go about installing a SSD in my y410p? I would like to know if it's possible to clone the HDD via a usb connector, then taking out the HDD and inserting the SDD into the previous hard drive slot. I'm relatively new to ssd's and i don't want to pay for windows 7 so any inputs on this method would be great!

I'm a new owner of a Y410p. Today the laptop develops a problem with the VGA connection to an external monitor (a Dell U2412M). The color comes out too yellow on the Dell monitor. As in, when I open an application with white background like Notepad the background actually looks yellowish on the external monitor. The background of NotePad on the same Dell monitor when plugged into another laptop is white as it should be. This eliminates the cable or the external monitor as the problem. Does anyone here have a solution? I've read some posts on other forums which say that this is a problem with the VGA port and will involve changing the motherboard.

I'd appreciate speedy responses because if indeed a motherboard change is required, I might as well return this (still within the 30-day window) and order a new one (taking advantage of the B&N labor day sale).

I'm going to be doing this pretty soon but it should be pretty simple. Hardest part is taking off the protective case to access the hard drive. The Samsung 840 EVO SSD kit that is shipping to me includes a usb connector. I've never used one of those to clone a hard drive but I will let you know as soon as I try it out.

Well in that case then I would believe the screen would be better on the 1080p Aspire V7 compared to the Y410p. Since I have no experience with that screen then I'm not entirely sure. But I have always thought 1080p laptop screens look better than lower resolution ones. That computer has much less powerful performance than the Y410p, but you said you care more about the display than performance right?

@kirkydaturkey I never said that you will never be able to. I'm just saying Lenovo has not released it here yet. You can always see if you could find it on Taobao (more or less China's eBay if you did not know), or see if you can find a seller in China that would be willing to source it for you. Seeing that you have the part number, it shouldn't be too hard.

In unrelated news, the y410p I ordered yesterday has all ready shipped!

I....... found another bug for this laptop....

It's a Battery Drain problem. I noticed this when I left my notebook 3 days ago. Fully charged. When I came back from my trip, it discharged COMPLETELY. I'm 100% sure I put it on shutdown when I leave it. A thread describes that this laptop, when turned off with battery plugged in, discharged around 8-15% per day. In some severe cases, 15% per 8 hours.

The problem is, it discharges WAY down to 0%. Which is quite dangerous for our battery's health (negative state). Mine is completely empty, and the battery indicator kept on blinking orange. When I go inside windows, the battery meter is completely empty, with no info on how many has been charged...... Fortunately, after restart, it's back to normal.

So, advice for all y410p users, plug out your battery when you're not using it.

As for the threads, here they are

Battery drain when powered down Y410P - Lenovo Community
New Y410P battery does not charge - Lenovo Community

And yes, they already turned off the USB Always ON feature. 1 user is now RMAing his/her laptop, to see what will Lenovo say about this. I'm keeping track on it....

did you have any problem getting the Y410p faceplate to fit on your HDD caddy? I bought this caddy:
New 2nd SATA Hard Drive SSD HDD Caddy for Lenovo IdeaPad Y410P Replace Du 8A5SH | eBay

And what I noticed is that the plastic holders on the Y410p are a tiny bit too long to fit into the caddy faceplate slots. This results in a faceplate that sticks out a little bit, isn't snuggly fit to the caddy, and overall looks horrible on the Y410p. I'm trying to see if I should buy another caddy from another website that won't give me this problem. Otherwise I might just sand the plastic holders down a little shorter so that they fit in all the way. What can you tell me about your experience so far?

Hm? that's weird, I definitely have not noticed a drain like that when I left it unplugged for a couple days. I'll look into it again though.

To be honest, I haven't try to put the faceplate in. Just bought my SSD today. It seems a bit different though. This is the one that I bought:

2nd Hard Drive HDD/SSD Caddy Adapter Lenovo IdeaPad Y410P Y510P

Although it seems a bit misfitting..... I'll update today after I finished the installation.

I just tested it again today. I charged the battery to full (Windows read it as 100%), and I left it plugged for another 30 minutes to make sure it's not a fluke. Then, I completely put the notebook off, removed the battery for around 15 minutes (to make sure no gimmicks such as hybrid stuff or anything), then put the battery back. I left it for around 4 hours....... only to find out it's now 95% charged. Now I'm charging it again to full, and completely removed the battery for a couple of hours. I'll see what's the reading later. If it's indeed the battery's problem, then it should discharge.

Ooooook...........so after tinkering with a little bit, I found out that my faceplate cannot fit the caddy...... There's 1 hook from the faceplate that is way too big for the caddy. I think I'll need to cave it.

Oh, and also, for that HDD caddy that I posted above, you need to modify it a little. Because the L-shaped plastic won't fit.

EDIT: After a lot (Read: A LOT) of elbow grease, including drilling the holes a bit, filing the the corners, and knocking the aluminum case to fit the L-shaped plastic, I finally managed to make it near perfect fit. But again, it's pretty tedious. As universal as possible a Caddy is, it won't make a perfect fit.....
