Has anyone here have the problem of not being able to change the scrreen brightness in ANY way (not even in control panel)? I'm pretty sure if used to work when I first got the machine but somehow now it doesn't.

My Taobao Agent requested payment for the item so hopefully things are progressing now.

If you can't change the brightness, install Lenovo Energy Management. If you are on linux, you will need to follow this guide to change the brightness:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ide...ovo-y500-ubuntu-linux-brightness-key-fix.html

Only 14.0" 1080p panels (like the ones in the Alienware 14) that I could find all used eDP connectors. The IdeaPad y410p has LVDS, so unless some kind of LVDS to eDP converter board exists, that isn't happening.

I personally don't get annoyed by glossy screens, so unless i am upgrading the resolution, i will steer clear of panel upgrades for the time being, especially since i still have 7-8 months of warranty left.

How are the SLI modules coming? Also, what link from TaoBao did you use to buy it? Most of the links i check advertise M5's in the picture :(

From what I understand, Taobao works a lot like eBay. When an item is sold, the page takes away the "buy it now" button and shows that the item isn't available any more. I used the only link from htsdream ( ÏÖ»õ Y500 Y400 ÍØÕ¹ ÏÔ¿¨ GN36/35 Ultrabay Graphics GT750M4/5-ÌÔ±¦¶þÊÖ) with my Taobao agent and told them to ask the seller for the GT750M4 for the Lenovo y410p. They say that they paid for the item and the seller has shipped it to them, yet the page I told them to buy it from did not turn into the sold item page. I can only assume that the seller dealt with my agent privately to sell the correct item. This is reinforced with the fact that they messaged me saying the seller told them that he/she can't offer any type of international warranty on the item, but I mean, why would I care?

Judging by the title, I think he was just trying to advertise that he/she could sell any of those card, and no shipping date.

    Try this:
    1. Open a Notepad, and copy and paste next 4 lines of texts:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\monitor\Parameters]
    "MinimumStepPercentage"=dword:00000001
    2. Save the text file as "Brightness.reg"
    3. Double click on the file in Windows Explorer. When User Account Control asks for permission to make changes to computer, select Yes. Also, when Registry Editor asks if you want to continue merging new registry entries, select Yes.
    4. Reboot and see if brightness control works.

    Best,

Hey, first post here but I enjoyed reading the forums a lot.

I just got my y410p, the 24GB SSD version. I needed to reinstall Win8 (my work require the PRO version).

Everything works except the SSD cashing. Intel Rapid Storage does not show any options that would allow to use the SSD as a cache. I read here I should actually use the ExpressCache from Sandisk, but when I try installing that, I get "ExpressCache did not find any ReadyCache devices".

I called Lenovo support but they want $89 to help with this (software issue...)

    Any help please?

    Y410P Repaste

It's tricky to do the first disassemble, and you absolutely must have all the tools for the job unless you want broken plastics.
I've used Arctic Silver 5 with custom mods for the thermal pads of the NB and GPU VRAM.

    Y410P WiFi Issues

The issue apparently is the delayed start of the bluetooth stack which prevents the WiFi from initializing.

Can be easily fixed by doing the following:
    1. Install: latest drivers from Intel (WiFi + Bluetooth)
    2. Press: WINKEY + R
    3. Type: "services.msc"
    4. Change Start Type of: Bluetooth Device Monitor, Bluetooth Media Service, Bluetooth OBEX Service to "Automatic".
    5. Restart

What model did you use for the new screen? :)

Follow this link and download Diskeeper ExpressCache 1.0.86.0:
ExpressCache software is not installed on ThinkPad and ThinkPad Edge systems with mSATA SSD device.

My Y410p that I received a couple of weeks ago came with version 1.0.102.0, but it has not been posted online. I called Tech Support multiple times to locate that installer, but they were unable to find it. I found version 1.0.100.0 from Lenovo China or Taiwan site, but I replaced my HDD with a 128GB SSD and got rid of the installer and a link to it as I don't need it anymore. And Sandisk's ReadyCache software does not work with Y410p's m.2 cache drive. Prior to installing Diskeeper ExpressCache software, make sure the SSD cache drive does not have any user accessible partitions, i.e., the entire drive, 24 GB, is an unallocated partition. The installer will create a new invisible partition. Once installed, reboot your laptop. Then open a Command Prompt as an Adminitrator, and run "eccmd -info" to verify that caching is enabled.

    Bests,

Thanks! The installation worked. The -info gives me a message "product not licensed to run on this system". This does not sound good?

Is the Intel Rapid Storage needed at all? Can I uninstall it?

EDIT: thank you guys very much, I would have never figured it out on my own.

Great, I am not sure if Intel RST is needed at all as I won't have RAID configuration set up, or the laptop motherboard may not support it at all. I have it installed only because it is part of standard Lenovo drivers package and thought it may install newer version of AHCI driver..

Intel RST also has something to do with the laptop's startup, about Rapid Start Technology (RST). I advise you keep it.

That may explain 3-4 second startup of my Windows 8.

EDIT: It seems Intel Rapid Start Technology is a separate driver/services package different from IRST as we know it. When Rapid Start Technology is running and computer has been in deep sleep for a preset amount of time, it saves pages in RAM to SSD and hibernates the computer. What is different from normal hibernation is that it pages much smaller amount of data, only the ones reported as "in-use", rather than the entire data in RAM to allow for shorter time it takes to resume -- Intel claims less than 7 seconds. I always shut down my Y410p completely and yet it comes back to life and waits for me to enter my log in credentials in about 4 seconds. I don't know what I did wrong, besides installing an SSD as a boot drive, to get this crazy fast startup time but I am more than happy to have it. Huge difference with having to wait 40 seconds or longer for Windows to boot up with my T420 I used to have.

Our laptop includes many design decisions dictated by Intel itself so I would strongly suggest keeping all Services and Software installed.

    Intel Chipset Software
    Intel HD Graphics
    Intel Bluetooth Stack
    Intel WIFI Stack
    Intel MEI
    Intel RST
    Intel USB3.0

Took me almost two days to find these for Windows 7 64bit, for WiFi, Bluetooth and GFX you can get it from Intel's website; Other software I've got directly from Intel's HW dept.

    Driver Pack - Full - Y410P - Intel HM86 - Windows 7 64bit - Ultimate, Enterprise - 2013.10.10

    [2013.10.10] Lenovo Y410P DriverPack W7 64

If you feel threatened by the lack of privacy it's better to switch a laptop to AMD.

Also, a few months ago, a special version of the Y410p with an AMD A10-5750M and Radeon 8 series video card appeared briefly on the chinese Lenovo website, but got removed.

Is anyone else kinda amazed by the fact that you can have a 14" laptop with 2 graphics cards, and 2 to 3 full size internal hard drives (regular HD bay, ultrabay, and mSATA bay) at the same time?! This thing is sooo underrated.

Msata? What? This laptop uses the faster M.2!

But yes, with SLI, this is technically world's best 14'' gaming laptop in terms of GPU performance, and assuming i can get the GN35 for 150$, i will only have spent 950$ on this (before tax). Take that 1899$ (double price lol) Razer Blade!

While some view a 900p screen as a con, i view it as a pro, as gaming with GK107 (650/750/755) SLI, which equals a 770M, should equal gaming on a 780M with 1080p.

In other words, i have an Xbox one in a 5 pound package.

Yea. I use two external monitors/televisions exclusively when I'm at home, so the 14" screen doesn't bother me. It's good enough for when I'm on campus or traveling, because then I'd much rather have the smaller size/weight vs. a larger screen. Once you go dual monitors, you never go back. Heck, I'd be using 3 if nvidia din't arbitrarily put the limit at 2...

Then remind me never to use dual-monitor. And blame Lenovo for not adding more display ports, they could have easily added a MiniDisplayPort on the Ultrabay.

In the Y410P it's definitely HM86. HM86 is the only one available for OEMs.

The only differences between HM87 and HM86 are: (+) RAID, (+) 2 USB Ports.

The Taobao seller was selling the GT750M5 cards in that listing, though he has sold GT750M4 cards in the past. I am accepting the item.

I'm almost certain my retention and bezel swap mod will work.

It is accessible after removing the bottom cover. If you want to access more of it then remove the keyboard, then palmrest. You will have complete access to the fan at that point and can clean it.

what is your Y410P setup for gaming ? like playing Battlefield or Crysis 3

A.) Playing game with battery + charging
B.) Playing game without Battery (Only charge)
    C.) Other setup

i'm confused which setup is better .... if i'm take the setup A .... i'm afraid the battery life will drop (Happen with my old laptop) ....
but, if i'm choose setup B .... i'm afraid the hardware especially the HDD will Broke when the electricity drop while i'm playing the game

please tell me the best setup guys ... this Y410P is my 2ND Laptop and i wanna Take care of it :)

If you just want to clean it, it's easily accessible by opening the back cover. But....if you want to REPLACE or access the axis of the fan (to put some lubricants), you need to dismantle the whole damn thing, down to the motherboard. That's why I gave up my repasting project.....

Since I use my Lenovo as a desktop replacement, I don't use the battery. I hook it up to the UPS though...... Inserting the battery while charging it pose a risk of increased heat production, and you don't want that since this laptop is freakishly hot -.-

Open Lenovo Energy Management, then set the battery mode to "Optimized battery Health". This will prevent the laptop from charging past 60% to prolong the life of the battery.

Yes, this only affects the level the battery is charged to, though of course the dGPU will still throttle when not plugged in. Also it seems to reset to charging to 100% occasionally, I'm not sure why

Mine gets up to 85C (and my cpu is undervolted) with extremely heavy gaming, but the fan does an excellent job getting heat out of the laptop and away from the internals. I wouldn't be worried about the battery as it's located far from the heat sink, GPU, and CPU; the hottest parts. I do sometimes worry about my CPU though. Temperature throttling doesn't start until 100C and any temperatures under 80C are absolutely safe and normal.
