Windows 8.1 done installing. Everything works out of the box, im suprised nothing broke. But for some reason my trackpad settings and keytweaks were reset.
My Airplane mode key is working.
Anyways, the only thing that still bugs me is this:

Anyone know how to get rid of this? I'm not returning to stock BIOS.
-
If SecureBoot isn't enabled it will show that. Upgrade to Windows 7 to get rid of it.

Waiting for complaint to microsoft + upcoming registry hack in 3...2...1.... -
Maybe i stressed the GPU too hard....1080 with all medium = 94c
1366 x 768 all low = 76c..
Just wondering , what is consider safe temps ?...so can balance out temp and quality -
94 C in Medium .... that's so dangerous
i'm playing BF3 With Ultra Setting ... only got 70-87 celcius ...
I recommend you to use the cooling pad bro ... don't let your GPU Die .. or you will cry a lot -
running on 1080p ?
Using a cooling pad , if on native reso won't cause too much heat,,,,,
Btw, is furmark overkill to test temperature ? lol -
I looked around a bit, doesn't look like there's a working fix for now. It does go away if secure boot is disabled, but why would we do that?
Rumor has it that Microsoft might be releasing a few patches through Windows Update to fix it. -
Windows 8.1 upgrade on this laptop seems fine, apart from the fact that Microsoft started using its own ghastly drivers for wireless, so if anyone has internet issues, the driver from Lenovo site will fix it.
Btw, can anyone tell me what the status is about the Ultrabay GPU? I haven't heard a thing. -
I´ll contact them over the phone today, hopefully I´ll have to Fed Ex the laptop to them, however it will be kinda expensive for me, since I am outside from the US, I am from Panama. Hopefully they send back the laptop (or replacement) to my P.O BOX in Miami, that way it will be cheaper for Vs a Fed EX all the way down to here, otherwise it will extremely expensive....
-
Whoa. How much did it cost and how did you get it? Also, do you still need to mod the retention mechanism?
-
The bezel dimension isn't the only difference between the 14" and 15" Ultrabays.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...-y500-ultrabay-compatability.html#post9119355 -
It was $18.24 but it forces you to get $13 FedEx shipping. It seems I got the last one in stock because it's listed as out of stock now. They also had the retention brackets (they call it the "2nd module frame" but those were also out of stock when I ordered (and they still are), so I couldn't get one.
And you are just basing this off of some Lenovo supplied measurements without even seeing or trying to fit it? You realize the y500/y510p bezel probably adds that much depth and length because it's more bulky than the y400/y410p one? I have had @Kukri confirm to me that the GN36 fits in the y400 and works properly with the bezel removed. I have all ready compared the photos of the GT750M4 to the GT750M5 and they are compatible. The only reason different part number housings exist is because they have different printing on them, everything else is exactly the same except for the bezel and retention bracket. -
OK so how was my statement incorrect? You even say so yourself that in addition to the bezel the retention bracket is also different.
-
I'm still buying a GN35. Unless they suddenly start selling the GT750M4, of course.
-
I can confirm there was only one left in the warehouse, so you got the last one
.
There's really no rational reason to wait for a 750m, unless you're someone who's just too afraid to do two or three software modifications. The remaining 650m ultrabays on the market are a fraction of the cost any ensuing ultrabay releases would cost, and work just as well. -
Hence why i need to get one ASAP.
-
Yeyy ... I have Install the WIndows 8.1 Too
and I don't get any problem with that
maybe some Windows updates can fix your problem
-
Laptop's fully up to date. I bet you aren't even running the modded bios.
As long as you're using the stock bios, the watermark shouldn't appear. -
I knew stuff like that was going to happen with the W8 platform. They are really trying to lock down the system, iphone style, the same way they did with their Windows phones. I abandoned the Windows phone platform for that very reason,
-
My software does not run on Linux and i dislike Mac OS X for the same reason as above
Can't win
Waiting for that registry hack that will make it go away. -
Have you tried getting them running in WINE or in VirtualBox? If it is SolidWorks you are concerned about, I know that it runs fine in VMWare Workstation. Now that Valve is pushing a GNU/Linux distro with enhanced AMD and Nvidia (and other vendor) support, 2014 might be the fabled "year of the GNU/Linux desktop." I will probably be switching to GNU/Linux after I'm done with this generation of hardware in a couple of years. I cannot stand where Microsoft is going with this "Facebook OS" BS. They forgot about the power users in Windows 8, and I'll never forget that.
-
Those of you who have updated to Windows 8.1 - How long did it take? Mine has been in the Restarting stage for almost 2 hours now.
Thanks so much!
EDIT: After 2 hours, I just shut off my computer manually and the update installed just fine. My wifi seems a lot better now (the computer was having trouble with my apartment's wifi before the update) -
Yeah .... This Update is Very Awesome
even my Y410P Don't have any problem with the Prevoius Windows 8,, but I can feel this Windows 8.1 is very awesome
-
Hmm, what is the safe temp for the GPU ,
Just wondering, does artifacts will do permanent damage my GPU ? Cuz I reached 95c few days ago and noticed minor artifact after long gaming session. After that , I try to keep the temps below 90c by reducing graphical settings and no artifacts appears since.
Just wondering will that moment of high temperature (about 1 hour) will cause future problems =O -
The problem with [GNU]Linux is that some distributions (Ubuntu, Oracle Linux, ChromeOS) follow that same "walled-garden" policy. And unfortunately, these manipulative distros control most of the market, and have the biggest software selections.
Bottom line, when something is run by a profit-driven company, expect the proverbial middle finger. Unfortunately these companies usually make software that is usually better than open source alternatives.
Until AfterEffects, SolidWorks, iTunes, Microsoft Office, All my Origin/Steam games and all my Legacy Windows Applications run on Linux, i'm not making the switch. None of these run on WINE and don't tell me to run these in a VM.
I'm really thinking of just downgrading to W7, but i doubt moving 300+GB of data and paying 80$ is worth it.
Don't worry, Windows 9 will be a success, just like Windows 7. Otherwise, there will not be a Microsoft
-
I gave the Win8.1 preview a fair shake. It SUUUUUUUUCKED bad. I had to revert to an earlier image I made. It'll will be awhile before I try 8.1.

Hey, I've got two questions for those who've upgraded to windows 8.1:
1. When you permanently delete a folder (shift+delete), do you get a thin black border on the folder? What I mean is this:
2. Does windows explorer crash/restart like once every hour for you or is it just me?
Neither of these problems are a big deal but it does kinda get annoying, especially losing several file explorer windows after an explorer restart. -
Updated to Windows 8.1 - not experiencing any problems; however, I do see the thin black border. Truth be told, I never noticed until you brought it up

I am unsure if this is news or not, but I can confirm that the GT750M5 from the Y510P WILL FIT in the Y410P!!!!!!
After conferring with my dorm neighbor who owns the ultrabay Y510P, I convinced him to let me try to fit his GPU in my Y410P.
The result: COMPLETE SUCCESS!!!!!
The only problem: the bezel will not allow it to fit in all the way, so I was unable to test it to see if the laptop would run SLI. I don't think he will let me attempt to remove the bezel unless I give him serious collateral and have proof that someone already has done it, however that won't keep me from trying. I understand someone on the forum is already in the process of trying this, I would like to tell them that success should be guaranteed and your money was not wasted! I will now be stalking the ebays looking for a GT750M5 under $400, now that I know it is possible.
Respond if you want pics/video proving this, again I am not sure if this is consensus or if I discovered something awesome...Jobine likes this. -
Yes, this is already known. It wont work unless you remove the bezel though, as it doesn't actually go in all the way. The Y500/510 bezel is too large. You can remove the bezel and play games in SLI happily if you usually have your laptop parked on a desk, but I wouldn't transport it anywhere with the heatsinks being exposed like that. Funny how Lenovo took ONE product and turned it into 6, isn't it?
-
Should i still purchase the GT650M (GN35)?
I'm about to pull the trigger on a 150$ part. Good idea? -
If it's the GN35 with the Y400 bezel, definitely go for it. Seriously, before they disappear again.
-
-
Well USPS finally updated my tracking on the GT750M5 from Taobao to indicate that it has been scanned in the New York ISC. Just need to clear US customs, then it will hopefully be here within a few days.

Can anyone link where to get the GT750M5
Would it work the y410P with the 755m gt model? -
It'd only work if you modified your BIOS and drivers, in which case you'd be better off just buying a 650m ultrabay since the only people selling the other gpu models are in Asia.
-
Alright just ordered the y410P with the 1600x900 HD+ panel display. It is a better panel than the 1366x768 one because it also has higher color quality and such right?
-
I'm actually wondering if the 1600x900 screen would fit/be supported by the Y400. I already have a Y400 & a monitor, but I'd love to have that HD+ display on the go.

By the way, updating to Windows 8.1 temporarily rendered every single game I have installed unplayable or crash on startup. Fudging around with compatibility settings and unmodding resolved all of these issues, so it's completely usable and I won't be rolling back. Any graphical mods such as ENBs or Minecraft shaders seem to be broken, though I did eventually get the Minecraft shaders working. By the way, the update appears to reset all your Optimus settings, which is odd. All other programs outside of games appear to be working normally. Boot times increased about 4 seconds (no SSD cache). I wish I could upgrade to 7 for free.
The biggest change I've noticed is the ability to boot to desktop mode and of course the addition of the start button, which is essentially a shortcut to the same program list you get when you go into search. It also gets rid of your libraries (just the shortcuts in explorer) and I can't figure out how to add them back.
TL;DR You'll need to do some fiddling after upgrading to 8.1 -
It should be fine. Let me double check with the Y400 Hardware Maintenance Manual.Lykos likes this.

Hi guys ... I just wondering what Antivirus do you guys using for your Y410P ?
are you continue the mcafee subscription and using it until now ?
or using other Antivirus ? -
Reinstall Intel Video Driver, download the latest one for 8.1 on Intel's site.
-
can you give me the link bro ?
and how about the Bluetooth Problem ? -
Reinstall proset for bluetooth. I'll give you both links:
(Graphics) https://downloadcenter.intel.com/De..., 64-bit*&DownloadType= Drivers
(Bluetooth) https://downloadcenter.intel.com/co...oductProduct=Intel®+Centrino®+Wireless-N+2230
Both are 64bit. -
Thx a lot dude
BTW I just got this from Lenovo site : http://support.lenovo.com/en_GB/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035820
what do you think about that link ?
that is a new version for some driver for windows 8.1
oo ya ... must I uninstall the old driver first and then install the new one ... or just install the new driver immediately without uninstall the old one ? -
