The two latest Nivdia drivers keep failing the install for me. (Windows 8.1) does this happen to anyone else?

Running latest WHQL w/o issues.

*sigh* I just noticed my airplane mode FN key isn't working anymore either. I'm still on Winblows 8.0. That's annoying.

the airplane mode key requires the lenovo energy management thing to be installed. If it stopped working, try reinstalling it or rebooting.

BTW I just got this from Lenovo site (new driver list for windows 8.1) : http://support.lenovo.com/en_GB/down...DocID=DS035820
what is the best method to install this update ? must I uninstall the old driver first and then install the new one ... or install the new driver directly without uninstall the old one ? -
Thank you for the information. I found another site for panels but I wonder if it is safe to try now. the panels come in 1600 x 900 both in glossy and matte. Here: https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/IBM-Lenovo/IDEAPAD~Y410P~59392484/. However, there is a note that says"Make sure new screen has same size, resolution, backlight as your old one!" Obviously it is the same size. However, I wonder about the warnings regarding resolution and backlight. Anyone know why they would include this note? Is it possible to upgrade from 1366x768?

Does anyone know what drivers I should install out of these?
Drivers and software - IdeaPad Y410p Notebook
(I just installed Windows 8.1) -
Install all the 8.1 branded drivers, and install the Windows 8 drivers for those that do not have 8.1 support.
Oh, and do not install the Intel/Nvidia drivers found on this page, use the ones from Nvidia/Intel official website instead, better performance
-
For the Lenovo y410p it comes with a dvd drive ultra bay right? Can I take out that dvd drive ultra bay since I heard that the laptop runs cooler without anything in the ultra bay.
Can anyone confirm? -
Hi, I have been keeping an eye on this laptop for a few months now, refraining from purchasing it due to lack of need. Now, I have finally found the need for a high-performance laptop, and I immediately thought of this one. Now, I am not afraid of the SLI issues, as I have family in China who can mail anything I need with a reasonable postal fee. I am ready to purchase this laptop anytime from now to Thanksgiving (the U.S. one), but am in no hurry.
However, since we are nearing the end of 2013, and many have predicted that the successor of the Y410p will come out early 2014, I am wondering if it is worthwhile to wait the 3-4 months for the successor. As I said, I am in no hurry, but I do have to have a laptop by early February. What do you guys suggest? -
I can almost guarantee the successor will come out in Q1 2014 when Nvidia 8xx goes out.
-
I think the Display Audio is the Intel HDMI audio, so yeah you should install the driver.
-
okay ... thanks for your reply
this is the driver right ? : https://downloadcenter.intel.com/De..., 64-bit*&DownloadType= Drivers
I don't want download the wrong driver because I have slow connection today
-
Yeah, it should. Just download the 8.1 driver 64 bit for the Intel 4600HD.ValVraVex likes this.

Hi Jobine ... i'm still wondering what is the difference between the Bluetooth Driver from this : Drivers and software - IdeaPad Y410p Notebook
and from this (from you) : https://downloadcenter.intel.com/co...oductProduct=Intel®+Centrino®+Wireless-N+2230
please reply asap
-
I assume that the drivers on Lenovo cover more than just the Intel Bluetooth, whereas the drivers on Intel you provided only cover the 2230. However, the drivers on Intel are always more up-to-date, whereas the drivers on Lenovo.com should always be used as a failsafe option.ValVraVex likes this.

My graphics card just got scanned at my local sorting center so I will be seeing it today! I will go down to my post office if it is not going to be delivered, but it's priority express mail and it is treated as overnight by USPS, so it should be here.
-
Good luck with the card!
Still haven't gotten a reply from Pinnacle to see if they have a GN35 in their warehourse. I'll be contacting them again. -
congrats dude ... I don't even have money to buy that ultrabay graphic card ...
I hope it's not "Out Of Stock" when I already have the money
-
Thx a lot Jobine ! the intel driver works like a magic
and it visible again at device manager
but ... the Bluetooth still have problem ... I have install it, restart my Y410P, and then open device manager ... and i got this
i'm using Windows 8.1 .... maybe the Bluetooth driver not compatible with Windows 8.1 ? -
You are probably using the non-intel bluetooth/wifi card. Go on Lenovos site and download the atheros bluetooth driver for 8.1.

A wild box appeared!
I modified the standard retention bracket so it would fit the entire way and wasn't blocked by anything.
This is where the fun stopped. I can't get it to show up in nvflash. The fan starts spinning after a bit so it's getting power. I reflashed the stock BIOS and tried again, but it still didn't show up. I'm not sure what to do now other than just take off the faceplate and see if it goes in any further, but pulling it out may be a big pain.
I thought maybe there was some switch that would enable that port when something was plugged in, but the two clips just are part of the retention system and don't detect anything.Jobine likes this. -
Great find! If you pull the trigger let me know.
-
Try grabbing a live linux distro and running lspci.
Or rollback to the stock drivers, those are known to be a bit more reliable.
One (rather harsh) conclusion is that the PCI bridge in the ultrabay was disabled by Lenovo on the Y410p. Correct me if i'm wrong, because i do hope i am wrong.
Fyi, i recommend buying a HDD caddy for 10$, then attach your Y510p brackets on it (from the M5) and then sell it as a bezeled Y510p caddy on the NBR marketplace. You could make an easy 20$ and make someone happy. -
Update:
PinnacleMicro rep says they only stock the GN36 (Y500). Someone made a typo on the website. Looks like i'll have to search elsewhere.
Update:
Found one on amazon for 180$. Comes to 200 with shipping and tax. See if i can find one cheaper.
Update:
Found one on Compsource for 142$. Will check to see if they ship to Canada. -
Guys don't mess around with the svl7's modded BIOS settings too much. I black screened after changing some things relating to video. I had to do the following to get out:
Power on and mash F2 until I felt it reached BIOS setup
Press right 8 times
Press down 4 times
Press enter 4 times
The BIOS will restore default values so you can use it again.
nvflash is run from a DOS boot disk. If that doesn't see it, the BIOS isn't initializing it.Jobine likes this. -
Any success?
NEWS: New Haswell MBP is out, Iris Pro/4700MQ/8GB/750M
Considering i got my Y410p with comparable specs for a quarter of the price 5 months earlier, i'm not complaining. Not to mention if i upgrade to the 72w/h battery i could match the MBP's battery life.

I had the same sort of issue when trying out a Y500 ultrabay in my Y400. Turns out it was mostly just not in all the way. If you have the Y400 bezel on it should be a good indicator of when it's all the way in. With the Y500 and Y400 ultrabays, I have resorted to just taking the track off entirely, and slipping it in manually. If the bezel is off, the heatsink should be well recessed relative to the right side of the laptop. If you need to pull it out, the easiest thing to so is to secure w twist tie to the ultrabay through one of the holes on the front of the ultrabay. That way you can just pull it back out with the tie. Just keep repositioning it and you should get it in the right spot.
-
So if i get a GN35 (Y400 GT650M) i should have no such problems right?
-
I don't know. If the ultrabay PCI-E was disabled, this will never work. I'm not sure that really makes sense to me, why would they even waste money putting the port on? Lenovo was cheap enough to leave off the M.2 port on some models, why wouldn't they cut the ultrabay port too? They would just have to program the pick-and-place to skip that component, just like they did with the M.2 ports.
It would be REALLY nice if someone with a BIOS unlocked SLI y510p could go through all the advanced BIOS setting pages to show me what their settings are, as it might be something simple like that.
I took a look at the BIOS using a mod tool and found SLI certificates for both the y510p and y410p, so it's definitely a SLI certified motherboard. Could just be that from the factory, the y410p ships with a certain option disabled that disables the ultrabay PCI-E slot. Having the settings page dump from the y510p would hopefully shine some light on what to do. -
Head to the Y510p owner's lounge. I'm interested into this as well.
But since you reported your fan to have spun up a few times, i doubt this is the case. -
It seems to turn on every time the main fan comes on.
-
Which means that there is some kind of connection. Better than nothing, and right now, at least it acts as an extra fan.
-
I'm not trying to imply that you don't know what you're doing or anything, but I really have found the seating to be finicky (even with an actual Y400 ultrabay), but could you post a picture of what the ultrabay looks like when it's plugged into the laptop? I can at least compare it to how mine looks with it fully inserted.

-
Hi guys, does anyone have the link to the 72w/h battery that is purchasable for this laptop? I can't seem to find it on the lenovo website. Thanks!
-
Well, that looks about right :/. So are you otherwise able to boot up everything just fine? Nvflash doesn't see it at all?

Lenovo Y400 Y410 Ultrabay SLI Removable Graphics Card | eBay
Zomg. Doesn't ship to Canada sadly
-
Hi, folks. My GPU card just committed smelly thermal suicide, so I'm in the throes of trying to decide between an MSI GE40-2OC, or a Lenovo Y410p 59369916.
Any thoughts? Things I'm pondering:
Lenovo has a DVD burner that can be replaced with another GPU, weighs more, higher rez screen (in that 59... config) (a negative), and for me is a known quantity; I've got a predecessor now.
The MSI seems to have slightly better graphics performance (with 1 GPU), bigger SSD, faster HDD, significantly lighter, cool dragon eye case.
And it's an unknown brand for me; I know of nobody with one.
All opinions, experience, and facts appreciated! -
Windows and nvflash do not see the card, yet it has power and is doing something. I just think that maybe the ultrabay PCI-E is disabled?
-
You're comparing a 1200$ laptop to a 800$ one, the clear winner is obvious.
Good luck putting a 2nd GPU in your Y410p, Ember is still working on getting it to work XD
With that said, the MSI has better battery life, *however* for 70$ you can upgrade the battery in the Lenovo to equal the MSI. Also, with the Lenovo, you can always use the money saved to buy an aftermarket SSD. -
Can you at least try booting windows, roll back the (stock) drivers and see if they sli? I know that even Linux cannot detect an Ultrabay GPU, so the chances of DOS seeing it could be slim.
-
If nvflash doesn't show it, then that means the BIOS aren't picking it up, and Windows/Linux will never see it in that case. I hope he didn't pick up a dud :/.
-
[Insert chinese stereotype here]
-
The only way to tell would be to try it in a y510p.
-
Got a buddy who has one?
Edit: Sucks man.
Pawn it on ebay for 250$. Then buy a caddy, attach your Y400 faceplate on it and at least you will have a nice looking side
