Thanks. Differences are:
DMI Vc1 Control - Disabled
ASPM - Auto
Considering I don't even know if it works right, not to mention the retention system was modified... People on eBay would gripe about it. Guess I could sell as-is and hope to get _something_ for it.
-
I would try changing it to the Y400 values and see if it works. The two laptops should have the same settings save for those that have to do with optimus, I'm guessing.Jobine likes this.
-
I know that Optimus conflicts with SLI, however Y510p users are able to SLI, so it can't be that, or is it?
Im confused
-
Guys, this just isn't worth getting working. I changed one setting and now I can't even recover using the method I described. I took it apart and desoldered the CMOS battery. Hoping that will clear the NVRAM so I can be back to normal.
SLI just isn't worth your time or frustration. Just don't do it. -
Will you be using that Y4 faceplate? Does Lenovo still have them in stock?
I'd love to have one on a HDD caddy, looks much better than the ODD faceplate.
Time to pawn that card on Ebay. I'm sure a Y510p owner could make good use of it.
At least you tried. I'd rep you but vBulletin doesn't let me
Opinions on me buying a GN35 for 200$? -
Was it one of the settings from my BIOS :/ ? Sorry to hear you've been having so many problems with that thing.
I don't see any reason why the Y410 would be set up in such a way that the ultrabay wouldn't work correctly. I could maybe understand if this problem was arising from you trying to use a 650m ultrabay, but you're supposedly using a 750m. It just doesn't make any sense. I mean the optical drive and hard drive works with the PCI port, so the video card should too. And for the fan to turn on without the card being detected indicates to me that there may be something wrong with the card. -
I changed the PCIE Reset Delay to 300ms and that was it. Won't display anything, doesn't seem to want to do anything.
-
In case it helps, you can also enter the BIOS from the one key recovery button on the left side of the laptop. I believe after you boot it with that button, you press down once to get to the BIOS menu. Like I said above, if that fan on the ultrabay is actually running and blowing out warm air, there must be something wrong with it for it to not be picked up as an actual GPU.
-
Probably both cards (M5 and M4) have different Internals that prevent you from interchanging them, it seems.
Think i'm just gonna give up on SLI, and reflash my stock BIOS. -
That still doesn't make much sense. Y500 and Y400 cards are interchangeable between those systems. I've tested this myself. For it to be any different on the Y410/510, they would've had to simultaneously change how the laptop handles the PCI connection AND probably the ultrabay cards themselves. I'm not entirely sure that Y410 750m ultrabay cards even exist, but I don't see how or why Lenovo would cripple that functionality when they obviously had a whole plan for selling both these laptops as SLI compatible. If the fan works, the BIOS should be able to see the gpu.
-
I don't know. I am freaking out because I don't know how I'm going to handle this if it does have to go back to Lenovo for repair. From the factory my warranty sticker was broken!
I put it back together without the CMOS battery and it just seems to be sitting there, maybe the BIOS doesn't like not having the CMOS battery in or something, it seems to be acting differently without it. Will give it the night to clear, hopefully that fixes it. Else I guess it's back to Lenovo after I reswap the screens and reimage the HDD back to the stock Windows 8. -
Ouchies. You gonna get a y510p or just buy from another brand like MSI/Clevo/etc?
-
Should I still seek the GN35? Or just abandon and get SSD+ bigger battery instead?
-
So long as you can return it, and you don't get too adventurous in playing with the BIOS, I don't think you have anything to lose.
-
Sorry for being a bother but is this really the extended battery? It does look like the one I have on my y410p right now. Did lenovo give us a 48wh 6 cell in the original shipment? Also, according to this http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_y410py510p_hmm.pdf , it appears that at most it could be a 62w/h and not a 72w/h that was previously said before.
-
Going to call Lenovo tomorrow about repair. Done restoring the whole system to stock. Hope they don't give me grief over the broken warranty seal that was broken when the laptop was sold to me.
-
.... i'm so sorry about what happen to EmberV .... I hope your Lenovo can be repair ASAP
if EmberV's Y410P cant support the SLI ... so I can conclude the main problem is about the Y410P model ...
first please take a look at this link :
- IdeaPad Y410p High-Performance 14" Multimedia Laptop from Lenovo | Lenovo (US)
- IdeaPad Y410p High-Performance 14" Multimedia Laptop from Lenovo | Lenovo (MY)
The first link is the Lenovo Website from US ... and the fact is : Soo many of 410P model that released in US
read the features ... it say " Dial up your laptop's performance with this interchangeable bay that can be instantly swapped out for increased storage space or an additional fan for cooling."
and now look at the second link .... that is the Lonovo Website from Malaysia ... and the fact is : there is only 1 of Y410P model available ... not like US
read the features ... it say " Dial up your laptop's performance with this interchangeable bay that can be instantly swapped out for dual graphics capability, increased storage space or an additional fan for cooling. "
do you see the difference ?
offcourse you know it ... the diference is at this word " interchangeable bay that can be instantly swapped out for dual graphics capability "
and why it different ? why that word only not available on Lenovo US site ?
I think the answer is ... the model of the Y410P it self.
Lenovo US always update their Y410P model ... and this is the problem why the dual graphic don't work on some Y410P
I think the dual graphic will work at the Y410P model from Malaysia.
#Correct me if i'm wrong

I'll call Lenovo tonight see if i can order the part from them. At least i'll benefit from having 15 days of worry-free returns.
And yeah, i'm not touching that Bios
-
yup ... I know playing with the BIOS is so dangerous that's why I never touch it.
-
I feel like that's a less likely/logical conclusion than assuming there may be something wrong with the card he got. We really don't have any evidence whatsoever that the Y410 model is somehow different from every other Ideapad Y series laptop which can run SLI...
-
EmberV, could you explain to me the exact process of removing the bezel to the Y510p's ultrabay so that I could test it in my laptop? Or do I need the retention modification in order for it to slide all the way in? I feel obligated to contribute since I have a GT750M5 literally next door, I just need to convince him to let me take the bezel off. I would like to know if SLI is possible with the Y410p and report if my laptop detects the card, which I know works in his laptop.
-
Jobine seems to be ordering the GN35 (650M) soon to test with the modified bios and you'll have your answer.
On a side not I'm waiting on complete confirmation that the 900p screen works in the Y400. -
Hold your horses, i haven't ordered it yet. I'm still here at campus (procrastinating).
I'll be calling Lenovo tonight, see if they have any stock left. The last time i saw a GN35 on Lenovo's site, it was 180$ CAD and came with the 170W charger.
I also found a GN35 on Amazon, however i am not sure if it includes the charger or not. I don't really care if i do get the charger or not, but i would preferably have the part with the charger so i won't have to underclock my GPUs and undervolt my CPUs to fit in the 130W range.
Fortunately for me, Lenovo and Amazon are trusted sellers, so i can hopefully have one ordered to my home in Charlottetown (Canada).
Wish me luck! -
I haven't had any issues gaming with the system fully overclocked without the larger power brick, granted the battery is always fully charged and I usually use an external monitor when gaming. I don't think it's as essential as most people seem to think.
-
Haswell consumes more power on load than Ivy Bridge, my Intel GPU is not disabled (adding wattage) and a 900p display also consumes additional power.
-
All you have to do is remove two screws on the bottom of the ultrabay, close to the bezel. If you can't get it to fit right, remove the screws along the plastic track. It's extremely simple.
-
Just reflashed my stock BIOS. I don't want an incident to happen.
I might reflash svl7's mod once i get my SLI module, but i will not be touching the advanced settings anyways. -
Bad news guys.
I've spend literally the whole day (12+ hours) at campus.
Looks like i will postpone the order to tomorrow, i just feel like eating and sleeping tonight. -
I am glad you asked that, I thought only I was confused.
This seems to be the same battery that we already have from the original shipment. Specs clearly say it is 58Amp/Hr.
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/itemdetails/0C19901/460/D91DC49376D94C4690E7BA925BCE90CA#techspecs
I dont think the extended battery exists. I contacted Anker, they sell very high quality replacement batteries, they are not producing any either. -
So Jobine, you're plan is to use a GT650M4 Ultrabay with your GT750M-Y410p? I have read the other thread regarding mix and matching SLI cards, but it seems that no one has tested this yet, correct? After searching the internet, I have found several sources for 650M's for both the Y500 and Y400 for pretty cheap, so that looks like the best option. Unfortunately, I am pretty inexperienced with modded BIOS, so this may not be the best route for me to take if I wanted SLI. I still have yet to test my dorm mate's GT750M5 in mine to add to the data we have, but it really wouldn't matter because those cards are almost impossible to find. I did however find maybe something hopeful on http://www.cpu.com/computers/laptops/lenovo/y500-removable-ultrabay-sli-graphics-148798.html (search y500 removable graphics).

it says GT750M ... but why it for Y500 ?
-
The amount of errors in this page is too damn high. I wouldn't buy from it if i were you.
-
same here ... it make me confuse
-
I am seriously curious to find out if they did something to block SLI on the Y410, or if it was just ember's card being faulty. If you could pop in your friend's ultrabay and see if it detects it, that would be great.
-
I don't know anyone with a Y510p, Y400 or Y500 sadly. The only Lenovo's ive seen at my campus are:
- Y470
- S430
- X1 Carbon
- X61t
- G580
- E351 -
I know the feeling -__- I haven't been on here in over a month because of classes! Glad to see the thread discussion is still up!
-
You still post?
I thought you left ahaha.
Anyways, the large majority of my posts are from my mobile phone, hence why i post so often
-
Just Called Lenovo. They do not have the part in stock (GN35).
Looks like i shall be seeiking it on the interwebz. -
Bad news. Can't seem to find a card anywhere.
Only places i have found a card is on amazon and ebay, neither of which ship to Canada for the respective seller of the part.
-
I hooked up my Bus Pirate to the SPI flash on the GT750M5 to dump some of it off.
As I sort of expected, the start of the flash matches (for the most part) with svl7's modded vbios. I have not dumped the whole flash off, I cannot seem to get my Bus Pirate to read from any start point other than 0x00 (start of the flashrom).
EDIT: read the docs... 24 bit address. I was only sending a 16 bit address. I can read everything now!
For speculation, maybe there is some custom configuration data at the end of the flash? I don't know. I will have to figure out how to read the entire flash off.Jobine likes this. -
Where do you get/know all this? Comp. Engineering Graduate?
Hey, do you still have any of those Y400 brackets left? Can you snail mail me one?
-
Unemployed engineering major.
I've dumped the entire contents of the SPI flash, it's just an older vbios version 80.07.95.00.1A compared to svl7's unlocked 80.07.9D.00.11
Nothing special to "lock" it to a certain laptop, unless the vbios versions not matching doesn't allow it to recognize it.Jobine likes this. -
That sucks dude! You can always order from Taobao like Ember was suggesting in the mix & match thread. They're extremely cheap on there.
-
Nah, too expensive, and i'll just wait for a GN35 to appear for like 180$ on Amazon then ill buy it.
-
dude .. i forgot ask you about this ....
can you give me the link ?
-
Atm scaled my 900p monitor to display 1080p.
Is this even safe?
EDIT: Strains my eyes too much. Reverting. -
Interesting developments with the SLI. Please keep us posted EmberV
Got my replacement Y410p could of days ago, hooked up a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB and it's been running flawlessly ever since. No repaste or undervolting this time.
@EmberV
With these models you can't simply reset the CMOS in order to fix the blank video issue.
Try connecting it via VGA and see what happens then.
If you see a colorful line in the middle of the screen you need to reflash the BIOS manually.
Make sure to write zeros (0) to all the flash blocks and of course flash the original BIOS.
If you're lucky your "security" fuse isn't blown otherwise there is nothing you can do and will require replacement of the BIOS chip.
BTW this is part of Intel's secure platform v9. Even tho it's not officially present in Y410p the modded BIOS activates it. -
