which one of you is selling this?
Lenovo Y400 Y410 Ultrabay SLI Removable Graphics Card | eBay
Price is good, if you can make it work....

-
Whoa. Too bad it's a GN35, no native support
(assuming it works). And there is already 20 bids on this thing. I'd have to dip in ~120$ at the last minute to score this sucker.
"For sale is the Y400/Y410 ultrabay removable graphics card. This is the GN35 model, compatible with the 14" Ideapad models. It contains the 650m GPU which will work in SLI with all Y400/Y410p laptops carrying the 650m to increase graphics performance by 50%! This is not the 750m/755m ultrabay GPU, and is only guaranteed to work with the 650m systems. However, the 650m ultrabays may be used successfully in SLI with 750m and 755m laptops with the right software modifications, which can be found on the internet. We cannot provide such modifications directly."
Hehehehe.
EDIT: They don't ship to Canada -
Since we've seen no proof of this from you, I'm calling BS on it. Good troll though, you almost got me.

With BF4 coming out tues, I was wondering who else was going to purchase it. Also, I know it was talked about a little bit previously, but what settings are you guys running the beta at? It wouldn't work properly for me when I first tried the beta and I haven't tried since the drivers were updated. I'm hoping for 60fps medium at 1600x900. If not, my desktop will run ultimate, but i have to walk up stairs lol.

Hey Linux users, I am new to Ubuntu but need it for school. I remember seeing some posts on some problems and solutions, but after using the search option, I wasn't able to find what I needed. Basically, when I try to boot Ubuntu 12.04 from GRUB, I get a black screen. I tried modifying the "no splash" text, but it didn't work. I also disabled windows safe boot. Also, I cannot use GRUB to boot into windows, I have to go into system settings and change the boot order in the BIOS. Sometimes I hear the popping as well, which I remember someone mentioning. If anyone could help me out, I would be very appreciative.
-
I"ve had black screens with Ubuntu as well. Try booting with the "nomodeset" argument, this will force a more basic gpu driver.
Windows 8 UEFI does not play nice with Linux. My technical knowledge on this is limited. -
A quick fix would be a VM, but I'm sure that's not the answer you want. I'm not very good with linux.
-
VM's are bad and you should feel bad.
Okay, just kidding, they aren't. But i still find them sluggish compared to the real deal. -
I have tried everything and still no success. I know it has to do with the Nvidia drivers, but I don't know how to update them to be compatible with Ubuntu. Does anyone have any suggestions?
-
On the 1600x900 resolution model, does it affect the display of games much if it is lowered to 768P. Is it bad enough that it would actually be better to just play on the native resolution on all low settings?
-
I got the beta to work and you can easily get 60 Fps on medium. The beta I got 50-60 Fps on high. Average 56. Ran really well. It was at 900p
-
is this with Sli?
-
No this is a single card
Also does anyone know how accessible the mPCIe slot is on the y410p? -
No one has SLI as of this writing.
And ValVraVex was clearly trolling, or he would have posted pics and proof. -
Wow I am surprise the 750m can run that good then! Nice!!
-
For some reason my GPU gets really hot when I play games like Just Cause 2 or run MSI Kombuster. And it can't even run JC2 above 30FPS. I have made no changes and don't want to overclock when I am getting 90C + running Kombuster. I have a cooling pad but it doesn't do much. Not sure why this is and not really looking for a solution, just thought I would put it out there.
-
strange, mine never got over 83C playing BF3 on ultra and other games.
and my cooling pad didn't do much with this laptop ( although it was great with my previous laptop ) -
ShadowPlay on Y500 Single 750M
Quite a bliss!Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
If I were you I'd send it in for a repair or replacement.
If I were me I'd reapply the thermal compound, but I don't care much about warranties. -
Doesn't work on Y510p/Y410p with single GPU due to Optimus. Only works on Y500 and Y510p/Y410p SLI.

Lenovo shipped my laptop today.
I compared the official GT750M vbios updates for the y400/y500 and y410p/y510p and they were identical vbios's. Guess I will try shoving that onto my ultrabay SPI flash and see what happens.Jobine likes this. -
Hey guys I just received my laptop today and was wondering if the touchpad is suppose to press in when you left and right click on it. Just wondering if I got a defective one or all of them are like that. Thanks.
-
I don't have Kombuster but JC2 is extremely bugged with Optimus, especially on the y410p. I'm not sure how you got it to work, but with my workarounds I get 50 fps at high settings and 1366 by 768 (one of my workarounds is to run it windowed). Temps max out at about 83C with a 75mv undervolt on the CPU
Also rugerp the touchpad is supposed to click inwards when you press hard enough near the bottom, though I just tap. It shouldn't be mushy though. -
Go to your trackpad settings and check make sure if everything is enabled.
-
Oh people who've updated to 8.1 what wireless drivers are you using, intel only lists a 32 bit version of the wifi drivers and the default ones are a bit sketchy.
-
finally played bf4 for a little and so far I am really really really impressed with this card (Gt 755m).
I am getting about 50+FPS on a mix of high and medium settings @900p. Too bad it seems as though most of competition sucks on PC and it has been constant steam rolls so not really fun. -
Try OC'ing the card a little, set to 720p and then go on ultra
-
Would it be good to OC a GT 755m? And if I did what would it match?
But it's kind of sad that this laptop pretty much performs better than the ps4 or at least beats out the XB1 with it's 720p. -
Er... I don't think it outperforms the PS4, though I'd love it if it did, that thing has a pretty good APU. Even the XB1 has a slightly better GPU, especially after optimization, though its CPU is probably pretty crap.
-
The PS4/Xbone is the *slightly weaker* equivalent of a Radeon 7870 + FX 8350
Radeon HD 7870 vs GeForce GT 750M
Intel Core i7 4700MQ vs AMD FX 8350
CPU-Wise, it is pretty much tied, the FX having higher multithread but the (mobile) i7 having better single core performance.
GPU wise, the 7870 smokes the 750M, though the 770M (equivalent of SLI) comes a bit closer:
Radeon HD 7870 vs GeForce GTX 770M
But on the PS4, you will be gaming at 1080p whereas on your laptop you would most likely game at 720p or 900p (Personal preference), making both rigs *more or less* equal.
But this is assuming you have an Ultrabay Graphics, and that your game supports SLI. -
Try 50mhz core 200mhz memory for starters.
See my above post for console comparison. -
I am not saying overall. I am just talking about bf4. The PS4 and XB1 appear to be some mix of medium and low details (there are quite a few articles that confirm this) while I can play this game on high @900p but I don't always get 60 FPS especially near fire for some strange reason but again I could be wrong about the PS4 and XB1 but as long as I can pull 60 FPS I am good.. Plus I like keyboard and mouse better controls just fit oddly in my hand. And yes the xb1 CPU is utter crap.
@Jobine.
You would recommend MSI afterburner correct? I am not worried about heat because I have a nice cooling pad. -
Yep. You can also use EVGA precision, but i prefer MSI afterburner for it's cleaner interface.
-
Thanks for the reply Jobine. The trackpad seems like it works fine, but what I mean is when you physically press down on it to left and right click it sinks in a little.
-
It's made like that.
-
If by "optimization" you mean running games at 720p (or less) and not even 60fps, then sure
"B-but muh upscaling!"
Please go. I'll enjoy my PC gaming experience. -
Love me some frame rate caps. Who doesn't like playing at 30FPS?

Was thinking about picking this up for college in the coming months (I think I stated that here before). Looks like lenovo changed their lineup for the y410p.
IdeaPad Y410p High-Performance 14" Multimedia Laptop from Lenovo | Lenovo (US)
Now only the "top end" has the 1600x900 screen. The GTX 755Ms are replacing the 750Ms. The screens are now "glossy" instead of "anti-glare". No more SSD D:. Weird moves made by lenovo, but I hope the 1600x900 screen stays in stock when I buy mine for college. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to look elsewhere.
EDIT: Missed the yellow "more models" button. But that model is so expensive for my budget....... -
The Core-i5 model is the standard low-end model sold in China (Y410P-IFI) versus the up-market Core-i7 Y410P-ISE. The screens were never matte and were all glossy, it was just an error on their website. You can replace the screen with a matte one for about $50, I successfully did the replacement and posted pictures earlier in the thread. By extension you could also upgrade the 1366x768 screen to 1600x900 as well. The $799 one has a 1600x900 display. Don't buy any of the models without the coupon deal active, they have these sales going on all the time and the posted "web price" is for suckers. The SSD model isn't on sale right now for whatever reason. As far as GT755Ms replacing the GT750M's, pretty sure that is the standard GPU on the Chinese models now as well. Who knows, NVIDIA can supply more silicon to the Lenovo for that chip, maybe?
Just be happy you get an extra 4GB of RAM and a backlit keyboard on the American model, something the Chinese models lack. -
Imho they should have made a 649$ model with GT755M+900p.
Nearly all new Y410p's are GT755M now. If you want 750 get a refurb or buy used. -
If they did that they'd have to drop the price pretty hard when the 850M comes out. Now all they have to do is wait and drop the 755M to $650 and have the new 850M @ $850-$900.
-
Either the 850M is a Maxwell chip or a rebranded 760M.
-
Still won't stop them from raising the price
-
True, but the 760M offers up to 20% more performance above the 755. Which is very appealing, especially if there would be two of them.
I am however concerned once more about the heat, knowing how the 7xx cards generated more heat than 6xx. Hopefully, we will get a Maxwell card instead of a rebanded Kepler, and Maxwell will bring nice thermal and power improvements.
I have a good wishlist for the Y410p/Y510p's successor, though i doubt Lenovo actually reads this forum.
Some key points are:
- Improved cooling
- Maxwell GPU
- Broadwell CPU
- A little thinner, maybe match the thickness of the Z series (1 inch)
- Better USB port placement
- Improved Ultrabay distribution
- FHD display (from T440s) on the Y4, QHD+ display on the Y5.
I don't mind a price rise, as long as they stay competitive (as always). -
The one thing I don't like about y410p is it gets really hot under the w,s,d,a keys.
-
Thats because both the CPU and GPU are sandwiched under these keys
Also if you have SLI the laptop gets hot on the other side too. -
Really, I'm running my Y400 with a slight overclock and it doesn't really get that hot on the WSDA keys. That might be because I'm use to the blazing heat of the 7805U though.
-
I come from the blazing hot Dell 1525 and Lenovo L420.
I find the Y410p tolerable, not to mention even under heavy load it is quieter than most laptops. -
Personally, I would preferably game with a gaming keyboard/mouse than the laptop's keyboard anyway. Though when I have to it does work in a pinch. For a while I had nothing to game with except the keyboard and touchpad.
So hard to FPS with a touchpad.
