Forward the card?
Btw how hard is it to modify an m5 to fit in an m4?
-
-
Ask if they can import it for you.
Ask Ember. -
Well i am going to look into all of this now. I have the money so why not.
Even though I would rather get a gt755m4 and just avoid any mods it seems as though that is unlikely to happen but I am still slightly optimistic that I might be able to find one in the future. -
All i can say, be careful.
A safer option is to return the Y410p and buy the Y510p. -
Exactly why I would rather just find a gt 755m4.
Who would have would have ever know it would be so complicated just to find one little card.
But Jobine I want your opinion do you think Lenovo will release a gt 755m4 for America or not?
Cause I really only want to import and modify if it truly is the only option. -
Character Zero Notebook Evangelist
I wish that was true. There has been a chat like that every month since June. Each with the same response "we expect it by the end of the month" -
No card by the end of the month = i'm buying a M5.
-
Character Zero Notebook Evangelist
I had a hard time following the translated page about turning a M5 to an M4. What is needed? Where do you get the enclosure for the M4 and what are the issues? -
You need to acquire a bezel clip (20$ on lenovo spare parts) and use the latch from the ODD i think.
-
The ODD frame won't work, it has different dimensions and won't fit. It's better to just leave it out as it serves no purpose other than to lock the card in. It fits quite snug by friction alone. You could even leave off the bezel piece as that is just cosmetic.
-
Still, without the bezel it looks so ugly + the bezel protects against dust.
It's so ugly:
-
Then don't look at it
. Seriously though, you probably wont notice it at all since the only time you'll need to have it in there is when gaming that hard, you're going to have the laptop plugged in and stationary. However, I guess if you're one of those gamers who plugs the laptop in, puts it on their lap, and uses the native keyboard, mouse, and screen, then it'd be bad. But I use external monitors and a 360 controller, so my laptop is on a desk at all times, and usually angled such that I'd never see the ultrabay anyway.
And honestly folks, I'd avoid buying cards from Asia. You're not buying them from retailers, you're buying them from random individuals on the internet, across the ocean. A more rational choice is to either wait, or make use of the cards that are available now in the states. Still not quite confirmed yet, but you should be able to make any of them work. -
good news. I was talking with a Lenovo rep about the Ultrabay y410p GT 750m4 model and GT 755m4/5 model. The rep told me to expect a GT 750m4 released at the end of this month (confirming what Jobnie said). She also told me to expect a GT 755m4/5 latter on. We will see GT 755m4/5 models they will just be available at a latter time.So this sounds like good news.
-
Look's like I'll be waiting just a little bit longer before I buy anything else then. Hopefully it comes out because I'd rather keep my Lenovo than upgrade it less then a year after I bought it.

If anyone can find a way to shut off cores in the modded bios and then report battery life improvements i would be really happy

I finally got Ubuntu 13.10 to duel-boot on my Y410p! After troubleshooting for 2.5 hours with a CS senior at my school, we couldn't get 12.10 to work. I am glad to have linux, but most of the programs I need don't run on Saucy Salamander yet. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be very grateful.
Also, still working on my friend to let me try his GT750M5 in my laptop. If I do, what should I look for in order to help everybody out? What should I screenshot? -
Do your brightness keys work?
Ubuntu is for noobs
I got Debian on mine hehe
-
No, I can't change the brightness in 13.10, super annoying. I also have like an hour of battery life while running Ubuntu.
And yes, I am a linux n00b, that's why I chose Ubuntu. I don't know of many distros so I will probably try Debian instead so I can actually run some of my programs. Any problems with installing it? -
There's a NBR thread on how to get brightness control working on the y500 (works on y410p), just Google it. Also, Ubuntu tries OOB to use Nvidia, whereas debian uses Intel OOB, explaining the additional loss in battery life.
-
Did you get the switchable GPU option in Debian? If so, then how?
-
Nah. 4600HD @ all times.
-
Hello.
I just got my y410p. Before I start setting up the computer or do an OS fresh install I would like to know if it's possible to create a recovery disk. How is it done?
Regards. -
Whats everyone's reported battery capacity?
I have had mine on the Battery Health mode since I got it (1 month) and needed to go away with a full battery so I switched and charged up. Well it was reported on BatteryBar that I had a 12% wear on the battery and it wouldn't charge up to the full 48000. So I installed BatteryMon, did the gauge reset and now i'm only getting 44440. So i'm just wondering what it should be so I can RMA if its damaged from their "health" software.
-
Before first boot to Windows you can use a bootable disk imaging software like Paragon Hard Disk Manager, Acronis True Image, or Norton Ghost to make a factory HDD image that you can restore to.
-
Haven't tried it but looks like you can enable Optimus in Ubuntu using Bumblebee: nvidia - Bumblebee on Ubuntu 13.04 with GeForce 750M and Driver 319 - Ask Ubuntu
-
Yeah, but why would i want to? I do all my Gaming, CAD and Editing on Windows anyways
-
I found out how to shut off cores on the i7 models to improve battery life!
-
i7-4700MQ with *TWO* cores. Note that i do not feel any loss of performance whatsoever. Will game later and compare FPS. Might tweak the voltage see if i can reach something akin to a ULV processor, i wonder how much battery life i could squeeze
Note that both cores are running at 800mhz atm due to having no load on the system and running on battery. -
This is fantastic! How's the battery doing now?
-
Dunno. Laptop's stored in my schoolbag for the night. I'll test tomorrow at campus. Should be able to squeeze half an hour min.
Running stable voltage @ -80mV, both on Dual and Quad, no BSOD's whatsoever even after 3 hours of gaming and 6 hours of idle. -
I guess thats the beauty of the MQ chip vs the ULV's. This sort of thing is common in Android roms, I'm quite thrilled to see this. If we can have some sort of switchable profiles like "extra long battery" and apply this..could go on trips and not worry about it at all!
-
Alright guys, i've just lowered mine to match an ULV (i5-4200U):
- 2 cores disabled
- Non-turbo max 1.7ghz
- Turbo max 2.6ghz
- Turbo boost power max 28W
- Turbo boost short power max 44W
Will be doing some stress testing. Wish me luck! Battery life test tomorrow!
EDIT: While stress testing, Temps do not go over 58°C, and the main fan does not even kick in! WOW! No noticeable performance dip for Typical College student applications (browser/documents/low end games like TF2)
EDIT: Lowered the wattage to 17/28W with no stability loss. Temps are even lower, and no throttling. -
I got my shipping confirmation. I eagerly look forward to your findings Jobine. Good luck!
-
Do these at your own risk. Like i said, there may be stability issues, and be sure to tick the right things in the BIOS.
-
Greetings everyone!
New proud owner here of a y410p
i am impressed
Im curious about some things. I CANNOT stand bloatware. Are any of these lenovo apps NECESSARY? I swear i want to remove everything :| im even doing a full Windows 8 RESET. i just hope my worst nightmare doesnt come true and after all these 8-10 hours of resetting it will just give me the apps back if lenovo had them custom built into the OS recovery image.
1) If I absolutely want to remove as much bloatware as possible, how do i go about this without losing functionality?
2) How do i turn on the USB
3) How can i turn on and off the video card GT455?
4) Are wifi issues fixed with latest drivers at windows 8.1?
Is there anything else i should know as a new user? -
1)
Here is what you should remove at all costs:
- McAfee
- Ebay
- Pokki
- Amazon
- SugarSync
Here is what you should never remove:
- Any driver
- Lenovo Power Management
- Intel RST
2) To turn on the Always-ON USB feature of the laptop, power it off, then press the side button to enter the BIOS, then enable it, press F10 and there you go.
3) Go to the Nvidia Control Panel, 3D settings, and select "Integrated Graphics" in the drop-down menu.
4) I think so.
5) BIOS is locked by default. If you wanna upgrade the WiFi card, you will need a patched BIOS. Also be aware that this laptop might not support SLI, as the bays have not been released.
@Others
Just played a round of CoD Black Ops 2 on my "ULV" processor, 720p all settings maxed no MSAA, and the game was smooth, no noticeable drops

Playing with the voltage now. Lower voltage = lower temps.
CPU peaking at 55°C on full load. Zero fan noise. U WOT M8.
A 10 minute stress test (100% load) drained 6-7% of the battery. Folks, we are getting some numbers here.
EDIT: Stable @ -90mV Will try @ -110mV soon. -
I think the i7 ulv is dual core. Maybe you can come up with the world first ever i7 ULVQM with 4 cores undervolted with best battery life ever!!!

for those who are looking for ssd m.2 42mm are available in Amazon.com 128 GB - $ 99 60gb-$59 32gb-$ 39 .. here the link to amazon Amazon.com: MyDigitalSSD SC2 Super Cache 2 42mm SATA III 6G M.2 NGFF M2 SSD Solid State Drive (128GB): Computers & Accessories

Hi everyone, after a good while of saving + weighing pros and cons, I ordered the Y410P. I got the 1600x900 and SSD cache version.
I've read a solid amount of this thread, but it can get disorganized in my head and I'm not sure what's still up to date.
If it's not too much to ask, could some of you more experienced users list the essential things to do when first getting the laptop? Right now I know to download trackpad drivers and also the wireless card drivers. A summary of tips for performance/durability and other things to do to make this laptop as good as possible would be very appreciated.
Thank you all! -
That's good news! The 64GB drive is large enough to cache my Windows and Steam directories! The 128 I'd use as a boot+apps drive. need benchmarks before jumping in tho.
Edit: There is a photo of a benchmark in the product images. Write speeds seem awfully slow. -
That would be massively instable. The quads need way more voltage that the duals.
Atm the main advantage of lowering voltage is *not* increasing battery life, but reducing heat. My 2.7 ghz Dual-Core runs at 55°C under full load, and this is insanely good compared to the 90°C of the stock CPU.
Also, the 4702MQ (which i can imitate) is technically an ULVQM. -
Okay, so running my fake ULV gives me about 5:30 runtime compared to 4:00 on stock settings.
Not bad at all. Will tweak further.duperstar likes this. -
Thats excellent! Did you try imitating a 4702MQ? I was asking because it seems weird paying for a mq and then keeping 2 cores off..maybe low voltages on all 4 cores would yield interesting results. The difference in battery life is what intrigues me. I like 5:30 that's very good
-
hello,i just got my Lenovo Y410p and this is my first notebook...
some advice and tips is highly appreciated
:rolleyes2: -
Yeah, 4702 is nice if you need to lose 10W. Though i would rather go dual-core and reap the battery life gains.
Atm i'm getting 5:30, but with a 4200U. -
I'm sorry of this has been asked already, but will this void my warranty? Mine *should* arrive Friday..
-
It should not. This does not mean you must not be careful.
-
Along with my question on the last page, how fast was the shipping for ya'll?? Better than stated on the order detail form, or worse?
I ordered it last night, if the time of month means anything. -

I think mine took 10 days. The estimate was pretty much spot on.
