Jobine, your undervolting sounds wonderful, but what do you think the performance loss would be on an extremely CPU bound game like Guild Wars 2?

Rep said end of the month. Not sure if i believe him, however seeing the M5's being released recently put my hopes up. I might just end up buying an M5 and a bezel clip myself.

Awsome!!!!!!! this means they are including support which means that m5 cards would also be compatible personally I haven't got my y410p yet but i'll probably do it round December. Hopefully they'll have m4 cards by then.

    Hello Everyone,

I am experiencing a problem with the "Delete" key; it is simply unresponsive (Ctrl + Alt + Delete is not working). I am using the laptop for 3 months or so; the problem seems to arise after updating to Windows 8.1.

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem (might be a hardware issue). I'm using Windows 8.1.

    Thanks

If that problem occurs after 8.1 then usually what that means is that you should just restart your computer a couple of times. When I installed 8.1 I was alarmed by the fact my nvidia drivers were not showing up nor most of my programs/files. However, 1-2 restarts later everything was back to normal. It takes time though so let the system load up all the resources before attempting a reboot.

has anyone figured it out how to toggle Bluetooth and wifi independently and in an easy way? Something like a widged on android would be perfect.
I only use the Airline mode on and off but this does not even always works well. Often times airline mode is switched off but wifi is still disabled and I have to right-click the network button and use "fix the problem" wizard to get wifi turned back on.

After much tweaking i have determined to stick with the 4702MQ as my reference CPU :)

10W less power consumption, lower heat thanks to undervolting, yet all the goodness of 3.2ghz Quad-Core :)

Also gt755m4/5 users should expect something as well after doing talking with Lenovo.

And on a separate note after OC my gt755m to about 10% I no longer have issues with Fps drops near fire in bf4 and I get a steady 60+ Fps @ 720p. It seems no matter what I do I can't get steady Fps higher than 55 at 900p.

Curious to know what kind of settings you are playing BF4 at? Will be ordering a y410p in a couple of days and would like to be able to play BF4, Skyrim and maybe some Dayz, so was just wondering how pretty I could make them? :)

So could I assume that lenovo will be selling a y410p sli version soon? I'm trying to decide between a y410p and y510p and if y410p has an sli gtx755m version I wouldn't think twice about purchasing one. I love the carbon fiber design. If an sli version is released, what other than the 1600x900 screen would make it different from the y510p?

Tbh if you have the money get the y510p with the 1080p screen. The only reason I got the y410p was because I needed a lighter PC. But I was told that the gt754m4/5 will be made available for the us at a latter time but they will be made available. If the y510p gets a gt755m5 I would expect a m4 version.

Ah, ok. I am almost at the same settings just using Intel XTU. I am at 32x/31x/30x/29x, all cores enabled with -118mV core and -75mV cache & iGPU undervolts. I don't think I can adjust the wattages.

Stock peaks at 3.3ghz, except this build runs 25% cooler and consumes 10W less. I would say maybe 5-10% CPU performance loss at best. Totally worth the heat and power drop, however.

You need to poke in the modded bios to be able to adjust the TDP.

Go to the Bios, in the "power" options, then in the advanced cpu. Set the MSR lock to "unlocked". This allows you to poke with the TDP. However, you will need to get your non-turbo to 2.2ghz if you plan on replicating the 4702.

To adjust the flex ratio, go to "advanced" in the Bios, then go to the overclock section, enable overclocking and set the flex (max turbo non multi) to 22 (stock is 24).

You need the modded bios for this and i am not responsible for any damage caused.

No, it's a custom BIOS ROM by Svl7. If you want it, i can give it to you, but do him a favor and donate 2$ for his work.
It's a very advanced BIOS with just about every imaginable setting unlocked and all whitelisting removed. The only thing is that if you touch the wrong settings in the modded BIOS you can brick your system.

Just have a couple of problems though.

    1. The colors look really wash out! Any ideas on how to fix this?

    2. How do I monitor the GPU and the CPU temperatures?

    1. did you get the 768p or 900p model? Try lowering the resolution then raising it again. What kind of monitor are you coming from?

    2. Try speedfan

Apparently the colors are really washed out on the y410p - partly because its not a great screen and partly because its not correctly calibrated.
I was able to make my screen more "vibrant" (not exactly sure of the word to use) by going into the intel graphics control panel and tweaking some settings there. Below are the settings that I've used, but its mostly personal preference.
    Display->Color
    Brightness:0
    Contrast:0
    Gamma:0.9
    And in the advanced tab:
Saturation: 17 <-- this makes the colors pop out more.

Also, in the intel power options, there is some "display power saving technology" under battery that does something with the screen brightness on battery. I have mine turned off since I'm perfectly capable of turning down the brightness by myself.

I use hwmonitor and gpu-z to monitor temps, though I should probably give speedfan a spin. :D

    edit: whoops double post >.<

Alright after playing around with the y410p some more.

Has anyone noticed that the laptop creaks when you pick it up? It is just little creaks, but it does concern me on the build quality. The hinges seemed a bit weak too and they creak too.

    Anyone here worry too?

Yeah, it's just poor build quality. You pay for the hardware, but consumer-grade always have worse build quality than business-grade. The Thinkpads are well put together, but aren't nearly as powerful as the Y-series. I think the hinges are fine, but the creak in the middle of the lid while closed is annoying.

Mine actually runs better at these settings then at stock. At stock mine would drop to 2.4Ghz almost immediated when running a stress test. With these settings I can run all 4 cores at turbo 2.9Ghz for 1 hour straight. I was even able to run it at -120mV and -125mV but after 40 and 20 mins (respectively) it would just reboot so -118mV seems to be the sweet spot for me.

While mine does not undervolt as well as yours, it does throttle less, even on stock. I have witnessed all my cores running at 3.0+ for over an hour, using -90mV undervolting.

I'm playing with XTU this very moment.

Stock bios, all numbers/measurements are taken/set via Intel XTU.

Stock settings on the cpu stress test saw the cpu hit 91*c and sit there for several seconds before the clocks dropped from 3.2GHz to 2.4GHz, where the temp then sat in the mid 80's.

-80mv vCore,-70mV cache, -70mV iGPU saw temps drop to a max of 87*c with clocks staying at 3.2GHz during the XTU cpu stress test

-99mV vCore, -70mV cache, -70mV iGPU saw 3.2GHz and max of 86*c during 2 back to back stress tests. Going to test -110mV vCore once this second (admittedly short) stress test wraps up.

-110mV vCore, -80mV vCore, -70mV iGPU seems to have made no difference. System maintained 3.2GHz the entire duration of the 15 minute XTU CPU stress test, and temps maxxed out at 86*c.

I've not messed with the turbo multipliers at all. My next step will be monitoring temps while playing Borderlands 2. I was seeing temps in the low 90's across multiple cores at stock settings.

Y410p crashed during BL2 at -110 vCore and -80 cache. I bumped them back to -100mV and -70mV. Played 30 or so minutes of BL2, and recorded a high temp of 85* on the CPU. Fan was much quieter!

Run the XTU stress test for at least 1 hour, I found some crashes didn't show until 30 or 40 mins into the test.

I don't have the laptop yet but I doubt the build quality is so bad that it would snap in half when you pick it up. If you are worried just grab it by two corners I guess?

Well. I personally pick up the laptop with two hands. What kind of creaking noise do you get/where is it coming from? The laptop's base is pretty solid and I actually think the build quality is nice part from the hinges.
