Hi
Have had the y410p for about over a month now and now I suddenly can't lower the brightness, the Fn + up/down keys don't do anything, the charm bar brightness setting doesn't do anything, and I think the brightness setting under the windows power options has dissappered.

I used to have the same problem but it went away after upgrade to windows 8.1 -
Reinstall Lenovo Energy Management.

The hinges are still scary to use since it creak when ever I open the lid or close the lid.
But anyways, I found out for pcsx2 that I need to use the "run with ..graphic processor" option to select the 755m gt.
If I double click it anyways, it just use the default intel graphic processor. Interesting that optimus can't detect pcsx2. -
Hello, folks. I've got a Wifi driver update problem. System is a Y410p, Win 8.1.
I get about 3/4 through the real driver installation half (after copying files), and get a popup saying it cannot stop a service. Then it backs out what it did (thankfully!) and gives a meaningless final message saying that there were "errors detected during install."
I turned off Wifi before starting this. Is there something else I need to turn off?
BTW, I've not been having any significant problems with Wifi. I'm updating because the driver listed is mid-October 2013, so it's probably new compared with mine, which I got at about that time. Hoping for some faster speed, or other goodies. It would be nice if there were a readme, but I couldn't find one.
Thanks!

What temperatures can the 755m gt handle? I was playing the witcher 2 and it shot up to 89 degrees. 0.0
-
It throttles at 97C. Anything above 90C on a regular basis and I'd start to worry. Witcher 2 is one of the most GPU-intensive games you can play though.
-
Yea it did the same on planetside. Thing is, is that the computer is only about three days old. Do u think there is a problem with it?
-
PlanetSide 2 you say? The game doesn't work the GPU that hard, it hammers the CPU most of the time. You sure it wasn't the CPU that was overheating?
You can try elevating the bottom of the laptop or getting a cooling pad to see if the improved air flow helps. I can tell you from personal experience that this will, at best, lower temperatures by only a few degrees. If it's hot where you live, you can lower ambient temperatures with air conditioning. After that, it depends on how willing you are to send the laptop in for repair or replacement. Or if you're feeling up to it, you could also take it apart to repaste the CPU and GPU. -
Thanks. What do u mean how willing I am to send my laptop in? Are u suggesting I go do that? And for the planet side 2 question.. yea. I checked with speedfan. The gpu was heating up to about 89 degreees
-
Well if you send it it in for repair or replacement, you'll have to willing to be without your laptop for a few weeks since that is the typical turnaround time. If you don't send it in, you either gotta disassemble the laptop and repaste it yourself, or live with the high temperatures and potential overheating.
-
Well warranty is one year. Can't I just use it for a couple of months and then send it in?
Did you have to repaste your's? What temperature are you getting with your lenovo? -
That's funny. Maybe I'm not a typical case but as soon as Lenovo received my y410p they replaced with motherboard the same day (within an hour of them looking at it according to the repair tracker) and got it back to me two days later.
-
Yes, of course you can keep using the laptop as long as you want if the high temperatures don't bother you. But keep in mind that the return/replacement period is only 21 days after purchase, so if you want a replacement you need to act in that time window. After that, only the technicians at the service center can determine whether your problem is solved with a repair or a replacement. You can't just call in and demand a replacement like you can within the first 21 days.
I did repaste the CPU and both GPU's in my Y500 and these are my temperatures: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ide...your-idle-load-temps-options.html#post9426654
Don't use my temperatures as a basis for what you should be getting because the i7-3630QM CPU and GT 650M GPU both run cooler than the components you have in your laptop.
Well you must live in or around North Carolina then. I've received two replacement Y500 units and each took several weeks to arrive. The second one didn't even get processed for two weeks because the inept Lenovo representative on the other end completely forgot to put the order through after she hung up the phone.
If you do a search on these forums, you'll find that extremely long shipping and service turnaround times are the norm with this laptop when dealing with Lenovo. -
Thanks for your help Octiceps. Though, if I do send it back to Lenovo what do I tell them though? Is getting too hot while playing PS2 a valid explanation to get a replacement/send to get it fix? -
Sure, overheating while gaming is a perfectly valid reason. It is a gaming notebook after all.
-
If you look at the models for the Y410p, you can see two new models with just a "NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M" listed as the features, under the graphics section. This might mean that Lenovo is in the process of incorporating Y410p SLI in their models!
-
Keyword: might
755M does not mean 755M SLI. -
I just got the MyDigitalSSD 128GB m.2 drive and it works really well. I reinstalled Windows 7 and performance is excellent.

Try selling your 24GB, could pocket a nice 40-50$.
-
models y410p lenovo gt 755m .ssd m.2 ngff slot?

would be so kind to upload crystaldiskmark testing or other testing software

After playing The Witcher 2 for about 10 minutes..
http://tinypic.com/r/2rdk8yv/5
Are these normal, or is there something fishy with my y410p? -
I'd say that's pretty normal, my highest recorded temperature is 91C CPU when playing BF3, which is actually higher than I achieved when stress testing because the GPU was also under load. It does worry me a bit but I've got the best warranty so if anything dies I'll just trade it in. (I'll be replacing it in three years anyways)
Also opening CPUID Hardware Monitor immediately slows my fan, even if it was already open and I restart it. Is it supposed to influence fan behavior? Regardless, without it the fans keep whining for several minutes after closing a game. Anyone else notice this? -
Try shutting off a core + 80mV undervolt + set Turbo to 33/32/30/(29), watch those temps drop
-
How do I do that?
-
That's what I meant. It is more than likely a model with a 755M SLI, instead of the SLI being sold separately. It is especially convincing since the Y510p is being advertised on the "Y Series page" as having a "dual NVIDIA GeForce GT755M via Ultrabay".
-
Using a combination of the modded BIOS + Intel Extreme Tuning Utility.
-
Not really. You can see the price is 1299$ without discount, which equals just about any other model without a discount. Meanwhile, a Y510p SLI is like 1600$ without a discount.
-
Ok so I been testing opening the closing the lid on the y410p and I noticed there is a slight creaking sound when closing the lid. Nothing really when opening the lid. (Though I may be wrong soon).
Is this normal? Can someone check on their y410p what sound the lid makes when closing? -
Yeah, good point. If it had an SLI, it would have to be one of those $900 models, or maybe Lenovo has not decided on on the actual price yet, but both of these outcomes are very unlikely.
Still, what do you think these 2 "new" models will be? -
Mine reaches 97c for GPU...in battlefield 3
-
i5-4200M + 900p
i5-4200M + 900p + SSD -
Mine gets 85 in the same game, and its overclocked. No repaste, no thermal reduction, no cooling pad, etc.kirkydaturkey likes this.

Idk if it has already been mentioned, I didn't read every page of this thread. I just wanted to let yall know, if you want a clean install of windows 8 without off the Lenovo bloatware, you can. I replaced the hard drive with an SSD, but couldn't find a way to re-install windows 8, so I gave up and ordered the recovery disks from Lenovo. The recovery disks come with an option to do a clean install. This clean install is just plain windows 8 and nothing else. You have to install the drivers yourself, but after that you will have a version of windows 8 without all the extra crap that Lenovo puts on it. The recovery disks do cost $60 including tax though.
-
how does this mean they MIGHT be in the process of incorporating SLI into their models?
-
What a waste of money, for that price you can buy a small SSD, a nice gaming mouse or a carrying case. For 20$ more, might as well just get a real copy of the OS.
Cleaning the bloatware takes 30 minutes to 1 hour tops if you know what youre doing. -
Has anyone ordered a GT750M5 from lenovo and tried it in their laptop? If I did and it wasn't compatible, do you think that lenovo would let me return it? Also, do you think the price will drop after a few months, or will they go out of stock? I don't really need the extra power until next-gen games like Watchdogs come out for PC, but I don't want to miss out on SLI.
-
EmberV did, though he bought his from china, and it was DOA. However, if someone can buy from Lenovo, i would be really happy, because unlike chinese imports, you can return Lenovo purchases.
Why don't you do it and return it if it does not work? There is almost nothing to lose.
1. Buy
2. Get
3. Remove bracket and bezel
4. insert
5. Test
6. ???
7. Keep if it works, return if it doesn't. -
You could have called Lenovo like I did. The option is built into Windows 8. The only thing I needed was a thumb drive with at lease 16Gb (which means I needed a 32gig drive). I bought one for around $20 and it does restore everything (I tested). I am now running Windows 7 on an SSD. For $40 less you could have had a full restore that is probably faster than the disks. If the need arises because I have misplaced or lost the thumb drive, I will just order a clean version of Windows 8 and be done with it.

Y400 Removable HDD F450 | Lenovo | (US)
will this work on y410p? -
Yes, it should. However that accessory is quite overpriced.
-
i know, but i got my self a universal candy and it looks bad, it works, but it looks bad :S
-
Thats why you use the bezel clip from the optical drive.
-
didnt fit... its broken now...
-
Your HDD is broken now? Did you try to forcefully jam it into the ultrabay?
-
I think he meant the bezel faceplate from the DVD Ultrabay is broken after he tried to force it onto the HDD caddy. It's quite possible that the mounting notches on the bezel didn't line up with the holes on the caddy. This is the problem I ran into when I tried to slap my DVD Ultrabay into an enclosure to use as an external drive and found that the supplied faceplate didn't work. Optical drives from different manufacturers often have different mounting hole locations and only certain bezels will fit.
-
Shouldn't be. I've noticed mine creaked a little after I operated on the computer with switching out hard drives. But that was over a month ago and I haven't noticed anything since. If yours continues to creak like that and you recently bought the laptop then just return it for another one =]
-
I remember you talking about your overclocked settings, modded bios settings, and programs used a while ago to achieve this. Any idea where in this thread you explained your process? lol
-
GPU's OC'ed with MSI afterburner, 55 core 250 memory. Using custom settings for XTU, base clock (fflex) set in modded bios to 2.2 GHZ, multipliers 32/31/30/29, -90mV core, -75mV cache, - 60mV GPU, TDP 37W/48.75W.kirkydaturkey likes this.
