Does the Y410p come with an NGFF slot if I don't get an SSD?
-
Mine did but I don't know if it was a fluke or not. Just keep in mind that availability of NGFF M.2 42mm cards is extremely limited. I only found one seller and I cannot be sure of how good a brand it is (MyDigitalSSD). I opted to go the full route and purchase me an SSD to replace the current drive and use an enclosure for now. I would love to get the hard drive caddy offered by Lenovo because I know it should fit properly but they are asking an outrageous price for the thing.

All of them have the slot. Our SSD is of the highest quality we use Toshiba toggle NAND pared with the all around best and fastest 4 channel battery sipping Phison S9 controller and we offer a three year warranty.
A user on this thread has reported his success w the y510p along with benchmarks.

Does anyone have the exact percentage the gt 750m GDDR 5 beats out the gtx 660m? For some reason notebookcheck decided to use the DDR3 variant of the gt750m and I have looked everywhere but I find nothing or what appears to be incorrect benchmarks.
-
They should be equal if clocked the same.
-
I am talking about stock clock speeds for both. I think the gt750m has a higher clock speed but I could be wrong.
-
For your XTU settings are you referring to the Offset voltage settings? And did yo have to mod the bios in order to adjust the TBP power? Cause my TBP settings are "greyed out" and unable to adjust in XTU.
-
I had a webcam power failure when I installed 8.1. For some reason I think it fixed itself because it works now. Hopefully yours isn't a big problem =(
-
Yes, you need the modded BIOS to adjust both the TDP, the number of active cores (you can disable cores for battery life, dual core mode gets you 1 extra hour) and the flex ratio (the max clock speed without turbo).kirkydaturkey likes this.

My laptop was supposed to ship today, but I haven't gotten an email nor has the status changed on the Order Detail page. Is this normal, or do ya'll think it's being pushed back? It's only 2 PM here, so maybe I'm just being impatient.
-
What exactly is the return policy? I am in college, and don't really have need for duel GPU at the moment, and I would like to not spend $230+ on something I don't need. I am willing to buy it, test it in my machine for the good of the Y410p community, and then send it back whether it works or not for a full refund. Do you think Lenovo would accept the return of an opened product that was bought for the wrong laptop as an excuse? Also, what is the process of returning something like this, coming from someone with real experience? I don't really have time to negotiate a return with Lenovo over the course of 2 months.
Sorry to sound whiny, I do really want to finally end this great Ultrabay question, I just don't want it to cost me a lot of time and money if something goes wrong. -
From Lenovo.com:
Return Policy
Lenovo will accept the return or exchange of a Product in its original package for a full refund in cases of Lenovo error (*see gift card policy below). Returns allowed for any other reason will be subject to a restocking fee equal to 15% of the purchase amount (*see gift card policy below). All returns must be initiated within 21 days of the invoice date. Lenovo does not provide refunds or credits for portions of a packaged offering provided at a single price or for preloaded software Products installed by Lenovo. To initiate a return, contact 1-866-428-4465 to obtain an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization). Any authorized return must include the Product and all accessories in the original packaging, along with all documentation (including invoice, RMA and original shipping label), and must be received at the Lenovo National Return Center within 10 days of obtaining the RMA. Returns that do not follow these steps may be refused by Lenovo, and customer assumes risk of loss and damage for packages returned without an RMA.
If you acquired a software Product separate from a hardware Product, and paid a license fee, you may return the software Product in its original, sealed package within 21 days of the date of invoice and obtain a refund or credit, if you do not agree to the license terms provided with the software Product.
*Gift Cards are not returnable, redeemable for cash, or replaceable if lost or stolen.
Basically, be careful with the packaging, then carefully unscrew the bezel and the rack off the ultrabay, put it in your machine and boot to see if it works. If it does not work, report your findings, then reattach the bezel and rack, place the item neatly in the original packaging and contact Lenovo ASAP. Your excuses for a refund:
- Not satisfied
- Thought you bought something else
- You have a Y400 (lie)
- The card is faulty (lie) -
It's weird because elsewhere on the website they advertise free returns, no questions asked, no restocking fee. Jobine, are you not able to order it because you are in Canada?
I'm going to pull the trigger, estimated ship date isn't for a while, though. If if works and they won't take it, I guess I'll just sell it on ebay or something.Jobine likes this. -
Lenovo Y500 Y510P Ultrabay SLI Graphics GT750M as Is | eBay
Is this EmberV's post? If it isn't, this would confirm that the GT750M5 does not work. If it is, I will proceed with my purchase of the Lenovo sold item. -
Definitely looks like his. Buy from Lenovo, because you can return it if it does not work.
-
I can order it in Canada. I just have limited money ATM, due to being an unemployed college student. And tomorrow i'm gonna dip some money on a Razer Orochi. I hate my Microsoft Mouse, it is a piece of poo
-
Oh yea gaming mouses make a huge improvement. Helps with that mouse lag you get with lesser mouses.
BTW I just noticed that the y510p now says it can be upgraded to dual gt755m's via ultrabay. So it looks like the y510p will get an ultrabay for the gt755m in that case when it becomes available I think I might get one and modify it. -
Ok I have put in the order, will let everyone know when it arrives sometime later in the month.
-
Is your Y410p 750 or 755?
-
755m
Words because too short -
Is it safe to update to Windows 8.1? I've been away from this threadd for a long time. Wondering if I should update, unless there are driver issues, or drivers ill need to manually install.
-
Everything updated, underclocked and crysis 2 tested with 8.1. Good to go on my machine
-
Did you have to do it all on your own, or did updating to windows 8 automatically take care of everything. Don't wanna update and then go driver/etc. hunting
-
Windows 8.1 update is ~4gb. After it finished update and reboot, under Optional Updates you will find the Wireless Driver update and nVidia control panel will also show a driver update.
I recently got this machine, read tons of stuff about all these issues and I never faced a single one. -
Why do all Y410p have it yet not all Y510p?
-
I just returned a Razer Orochi. There were four things I didn't like about it:
1: It's small. No, REALLY small. my ring finger and pinky hung off the mouse, Definite discomfort for me. The small size made the right side "pinky" buttons neigh impossible to use without really, really thinking about clicking them.
2: Bluetooth for gaming just doesn't work. The Orochi in BT mode would sometimes jump around. It's really disorienting when your field of view shoots all the way up, or all the way down during a game. It did it more than often enough to be an issue. Using the mouse in wired mode resolved this issue.
3: Despite having the "synapse memory" built in, and having the Synapse configurator 2.0 installed, the mouse simply would not save my DPI settings. It often defaulted to ludicrously high settings.
4: Aggressive power savings: In wireless mode the mouse goes to "sleep" rather quickly, and there is a 3-5 second lag to wake it back up and reconnect it. Only the two main mouse buttons will wake it. It was rather easy on batteries tho. It lasted ~two weeks on the first set (of Energizer 2300mAh rechargables).
So, basically for $70 you get a ultra tiny BT mouse that only works properly wired. :-/ The mouse IS really solidly built, and the buttons have good feedback. The texture is pleasing as well. But for a laptop wireless is a must for me. I'm holding out for a sale on a G700S.
I just ordered this in the interim: SteelSeries Diablo III Gaming Mouse $29 + Free Shipping - Tanga Deals, Coupons and Promos -
1. I am used to small mice and i have a claw grip.
2. I will most likely use wired for gaming, and bluetooth for general browsing and maybe video editing
And the G700s is huge, i have a similar sized mouse on my desktop (M500) , i would not like to carry something as big, it would mage a huge bump in my rather thin bag. -
Is everyone gaming with mouse and keyboard?
Last night I tried using my PS3 controller on Win8.1. WOW. What a pain in the ! Can't try the 360 wireless ones without a receiver so I started looking at next gen controllers. Guess what? Xbox one controller won't work with PC till 2014 and the PS4 controller behaves same way when you connect the PS3 controller.
Gonna grab a wired 360 controller. The BEST! -
I also updated but think there might be a memory leak with the new Intel GPU driver.
I'm fine gaming for a while but if I have BF4 running for a couple of map rotations I get a directx crash out of memory on the Intel 4600 (even though BF4 is running on the Nvidia GPU). I think Optimus makes it so the Intel GPU controls/interacts with all GPU memory, and it's leaking or not releasing memory. Might just be BF4 is buggy but I have had crashes on games that worked fine before as well. -
Yes that Is an issue with bf4. The game is pretty unstable.
-
Still going for it then I assume? Let me know what you think of it. I have a MS Bluetooth Sculpt Touch Mouse, which is a small mouse, and the Orochi is noticeably smaller. The G700S felt good in my hand (through the blister packaging), but was $100.
-
Lol i just bought the orochi (found the last one at my local staples, low price and no shipping). Will be unboxing it later.
I'll post pics next to my laptop if you want. -
I had one, I don't need pics. You read my thoughts on the mouse, now I'm curious for yours. Maybe I got a defective mouse?
-
Sony claims that the DS4 controllers should be compatible with Windows out of the box. Interesting that this is not the case!
-
Compatible? Yes definitely, just as compatible as DS3 is right now. It will recognize the controller and you can charge it, but you can't play games because that "profile" or wtv hasn't been released.
-
I've had nothing but memory issues with this computer. 8GB should of been enough to run everything and play games but I constantly got out of memory warning playing games like XCOM and BL2. Even with all programs shut off. Only thing that was using a ton was service host taking 120megs. There is some weird configs going on here from Lenovo because my wife's y410 uses the exact same amount. I ended up upgrading to 16GB of ram and now for some reason it is using less ram then when I only had 8.
-
Memory issues are caused by software, not hardware.
Be careful about what you run, also be sure that you are using a 64bit version of Windows to use more than 4GB of RAM.
The only time i ever seem to run low on RAM is when i play a really memory-intensive game like Battlefront 2, with like 300 units in combat at any given time. For an old game, this game can push new hardware quite high. -
Don't forget RAM can physically fail too.
-
Talking about stock from lenovo it was using 40% of 8GB with nothing running, it was the same with my wifes. Lenovo has some strange things setup. I removed all the bloatware as well. Now with 16GB im using 30% with a ton of programs running. Chrome 3tabs 5extensions, IE 1tab, skype, steam, f.lux, logmein. So idk why the computer used more ram when it had less.
-
The goal of RAM is for your system to use it. Generally, the more RAM you have, the more Windows will use it, even if nothing is running. Thats why i am consuming maybe 100MB on idle running Windows XP on 256 MB of RAM, whereas you would be using 700MB idle when using Windows XP on 2 GB of RAM,

Nothing wrong with 40% of the ram used up. Give windows 1 gb, and it will use 600mb; give it 2 gb and it will use 1.1 gb. give it 16 gb, and it'll probably use 8gb. Windows manages ram depending on how much there is since ram is much faster than using the page file.
Jobine likes this. -
Yes that's true but when its not releasing it when I'm playing a game and then tells me I need to close my game its a problem. It can reserve all it wants but it needs to just let go sometime and let me have some fun.
-
berrykerry789 Notebook Consultant
Open up task manager and see what program is taking up a ton of memory. It might have just been a memory leak. 8gb should be more than enough ram.
-
I've played both those games on my Y410p. Never had a memory issue. Some program is eating up your RAM.
Not like this. A failed RAM stick would keep the mobo from POSTing, or he'd get a BSOD. That's not the error that you mean, is it? -
Nope windows prompt saying memory low please close "app name" and its always the game. Its usually with chrome open it gave the warning, but with chrome closed and the game running 90%+ would be in use. Only thing running was steam and the game. Like I said my wifes y410 would be using the same amount as mine. So its a lenovo issue something they configured weird.

Hey guys, I'm planning on getting this laptop this coming black friday/cyber monday weekend.
I've managed to read almost all of this thread, but one thing I was wondering about specifically-
Just how bad is Lenovo's shipping times? Their customer service seems friendly and personable, yet I've heard horror stories of 2 month plus turnovers, and 3 month holds on fixing warrantied items.
If I were to order one of these during thanksgiving weekend do you guys have any idea how long it might take? I'm banking on the fact that if many people order this, bulk shipments from china or whatever backalley hole these are produced from will be more quickly completed... -
Mine took less than 2 weeks and it was shipped from u.s. Got it last week.
-
I ordered mine on Monday, got it the same Friday. Shipping was amazing for me, and I am in Oregon.
