Received back my Y410p after sending in for checking , They replace my fan and repasted..

In MSI Kombuster Temperature was stable at 91c after 1 hour....before this was 96c in 2 mins

    CPU temps drops as well.

However now BF3 starts flickering even at lower temp then last time

Last time I can play for like 1 hour at 95c GPU /96c CPUbefore it flicker.

Now 88c after 15min it flickers...

and artifacts appears ....last time it only flickers.

What went wrong here?, was happy to get my temps below 95c and now it flickers more quickly. No driver / OS change before and after service

Don't really want another trip to service...

This maybe sound weird....I changed monitor. The temps drop dramaticly to 85c and I'm playing BF3 for 1 hour without any issue.

My initial monitor was a 1080p 2ms monitor and i'm now temporary using a 1080p 5ms monitor......does the respond time affect anything ? @@. Both HDMI

Gonna try some test with other games and use back the 1st monitor later

I have this laptop for about 3 weeks. Everything is great. Nevertheless, I found that the interior somehow receives scratches easily. It occurs to me when I cleaned it from dust. Does anybody know how to perform cleaning without scratching it?

On my desktop I use sanitary wipes and it fine, I was gonna do the same on this. Since its moist it never scratched any of my other hardware...

    How are the others cleaning?

I'm using cleaning gel for LCD screen and a microfiber. I noticed the bezel gets scratched no matter what I use. I tried different softness of microfiber as well, the screen seems really durable though.

Is anyone elses y410p rather loud, like i can always hear it making noises and these grinding-ish sounds now

I have my battery out and its just on AC, if that matters

All i hear from mine is the HDD. Try taking out your HDD, boot a linux usb and tell me if the sound persists.

Mine is rather quiet. Chances are the grinding noise is because of the HDD.

Updated drivers....seams to occur when BF3 is in the 88c mark

What could cause the artifacts ? I believe heat is not the issue anymore , since last time it only occurs only at 95+c.

However when I test on kombuster @ 91c there is not artifacts...weird.

Just want to ask , if there's artifacts in certain temperature ....it should also show in msi kombuster right ?

Hmm,tried old and new drivers ( 4 of them ) still same issue. Guess back to service centre in next 3 months. (Going out of country for work =( )

Wonder why before service it can last longer with higher temperature....now lower temperature more worse =(

    In Summary.

    Before service.

    GPU 95, CPU 96 ( Only Screen flickers no artifacts ) Temperature before that , example ( 92 / 93 ) have no issues.

    After service.

GPU 88 , CPU 90 ( Artifacts + screen flicker ) after awhile screen blank with sound still playing

As Jobine said, that is most likely the HDD. I put my HDD to the caddy after switching it with an SSD. However every time I run something from the HDD then I hear it start to "grind" again so that's why I would assume you're hearing the HDD. Absolutely silent now except the graphics card makes these tiny high pitched sounds often. Only noticeable when the room is completely silent though. I learned it was a common sound heard from owners with NVIDIA cards with optimus so I don't worry about it (just something to note if you ever hear something like that too).

    Daily. It's my college+gaming+media laptop.

    Anyways, i found out something:

-If you are on power-saver mode and you are on the battery, the CPU will not go past 800mhz clock.
-On balanced it will not go past your Flex (max nonturbo), however sometimes it will shut off a core and turbo the remaining core if necessary
-On High Performance the CPU *might* turbo, however you will either need to shut off cores to keep turbo running, as the battery is often not strong enough to fully power the CPU at full turbo. Shutting off cores helps a lot.

In other news, my fake "i5-4200U" runs like an absolute champ. And it sips only 18W of power :D Managed to pull a little over 5 hours today one one charge using both WiFi and Bluetooth (Razer Orochi FTW)!

    Take that Ultrabook:

So I got this laptop as a gift
    IdeaPad Y410p Laptop - 59392484 - Dusk Black: Weekly Deal | Lenovo | (US)

But I'm wondering if I can swap the DVD drive to use a Solid State drive instead?
And if so how would I know that by reading the specs?
And would I need a drive caddy? What size if do?
Anything else to look for or extra items I would need to get a SSD in this laptop?

I definitely hear some noise when the sata bus is heavily loaded on mine. I run ubuntu and have replaced the hd with an ssd and when the io gets really moving it almost sounds like a traditional disk. I thought it was really odd at first. Best I can figure it's some kind of audio interference

I switched out the HDD for a Samsung 840 EVO SSD and placed the HDD into a caddy for the DVD drive. You could also just leave the HDD and then put the SSD into the caddy if you like instead.
This was the caddy I bought off ebay: New 2nd SATA Hard Drive SSD HDD Caddy for Lenovo IdeaPad Y410P Replace Du 8A5SH | eBay
Other items you will need to get an ssd into the laptop are screwdrivers lol. I also used a metal filer because I had to adjust some of the slots on the caddy so that the Y410p dvd drive bezel would fit correctly. It still doesn't fit perfectly, but I'm the only person that would ever realize this because it's so minor. Fitting the bezel to the caddy took me about 4 hours of tinkering which really annoyed me but in the end I'm happy!
If you end up going a route similar to this then feel free to PM me. I'm not on here all the time because engineering physics courses are giving me hell right now but I will try! I videotaped myself installing everything into my computer, but haven't had time to upload it. I plan to this Christmas break though. Good luck man!

Hello everybody, I just bought a y410p... It so exciting haha, a lot of info to learn

Well, I read some topic about y410p, I'm making a to-do- list when it comes...

    1. Disable secure boot on bios for change wifi card (and always on USB)
    2. Check it comes with m.2 ssd port (and install OS on)
    3. Try to buy a gt755m4
    4. Check the temp when playing games

Any other suggestion? Thank in advance

    Pardon my English :)

I use it for 3D work. It runs beautifully with no heat or fan.

Try the same thing on a macbook you'll be able to fry eggs on it.

I was unable to get 12.10 (stable) to work with mine. Ended up running 13.04, no problems with install. Just make sure to use the brightness keys on bootup to see the screen, Ubuntu likes to turn off the backlight for some reason...

BTW, my GT750M5 arrives today, when it does, I will post pics and try to install it. What screenshots would be helpful, what programs should I install, etc? I bought this and am testing it for the good of the Y410p community, as I have no idea what I am doing, other than putting it in and booting up.

What are the advantages of undervolt in the y410p?
More battery life and less heat but it's necessary ?

Those reasons PLUS it will allow your CPU to run turbo for much longer. On my y510p the CPU could only turbo for minute or two before going back to 2.4 Ghz but with my undervolt it can now run turbo for 1 hour at 2.9 Ghz all for cores.

But ThrottleStop will allow it to Turbo indefinitely at 3.2 GHz on all four cores without needing to undervolt. I'm assuming you can't use ThrottleStop because your CPU overheats?

Correct, I would rather undervolt and adjust my turbo setting and have it turbo at a lower speed for longer and product less heat.

With stock settings I'd have to charge the laptop twice a day and I wasn't even using it for anything serious. With the 4600U (or) 4500U setup I could easily cruise through whole day and charge it at night. I have a 4702MQ profile that runs 10W less and I use that as my new "stock" if any of my 3d programs need it.

Ok, but you need run turbo when you play games? Or use another application that needs more processor, because in games the GPU does most of the work

    I think y410p (900p+755 gddr5) can run games in high at 720p right ?
But y510p (1080p+750 gddr5) need more resource to play fhd

Undervolting does not affect battery life unless you push your CPU at 100% all times when on battery. If you need extra battery life, shut off some cores and lower their clock.

In my opinion the battery is not a priority in a gaming laptop, but if you get more time to use ( +2 hours) I'm interested

So I can have a low profile for web browsing and a high profile for gaming? Like balanced and high performance mode of battery

Just wanted to ask, does anyone know if the current models of the y410p for sale that are on discount come with the m.2 ssd port? I asked tech support and they said that all models of the y410p come with the slot for future upgrades with the caching ssd but I've also heard on here that lenovo simple leaves the port out if you don't get it configured with the ssd originally.

    Hopefully they restock soon :(

So after looking over the past few pages of this thread, I'm quite interested yet confused about this whole 4700mq/4500u business. Could someone do a step by step process on how to to do this since I really want some battery life for my college schedule. Also is there any update on the extended battery/new wifi card information? For the battery I mentioned a while back that according to the lenovo description, it doesn't appear that it is any different from the stock one already given to us. For the wifi card, I saw the the y510p has the option for a/c wifi. Will we be able to install such card on the y410p in the near future? Sorry for the all the questions, and thanks for any additional info.

-Edit: I have removed the bezel, my laptop does not detect the second gpu. What should I do?
