Does anybody notice major stuttering in Skyrim when looking down or up? When looking straight ahead it's fine... I'm playing WAY below the Geforce Experience settings.... So yeah with a few mods it's fixed, stutters once in a while.... But playing at 59 FPS except when entering another area(in the open world, no loading screen), but a little stutters are to be expected with a 2.4 Ghz processor, but it shouldn't stutter with vanilla game!
-
yes. Run in W7 compatibility mode if it doesnt.
-
I think this is more of an issue with the actual game itself. Speaking of 2.4ghz, are you throttling? You should do a few things if you wanna get that fixed.
-
Zero popping or similar noises. Some hiss/fizz on some notes. I know that's in the speakers because it's completely absent on my headphones.
-
TheTrickyWitcher Notebook Enthusiast
It's not a steady decrease, it just drops...and then back to normal. Until it does it again when I enter a new cell. Like I said, I fixed the original stuttering when looking down or up, but vanilla should be fixed! -
Yea definitely noticeable on mine. Amazing song by the way, Ludovico's great.

How would I know if what I'm suffering from is CPU throttling? My GPU hardly ever gets above
68C°, so it can't be it. And my CPU, on really hot days will be max 80C°. Is it because of this Intel turbo Boost program that came with the laptop? That it could be overclocking it to 3.0 GHz and it's throttling itself down? In this case, will a cooling pad help? -
I have a question for any experts here. I got this laptop as soon as it got out. I've been on this thread here and their, but now I seem to have a slight problem. I used to play Minecraft quite often on this laptop. Usually I would get at least 150fps and most of the time even better on high settings. I quit playing for a few months and now I started back up again. Only this time, my fps seems to be limited at 30. It seems to be governed or something because no matter what I change the rendering distances to or any other graphic settings, it seems to stay at 30, but very rarely over. I realize that the screen can only refresh at a certain speed, which means an fps above a certain range doesn't help anyway, but I'm just wondering if there is some kind of performance issues or something. I haven't downloaded anything in between the time when I didn't play, so I'm not sure what's causing it.
-
the ReadMe says the supported model is only for ThinkPad S430, S230u
will it work on Y410P with Windows 8.1 ? -
Yes.

thx for the info Octi .. especially you Jobine
-
hmm .. i have intall the Dolby V4 on my Y410P.
i have no problem when installing and the program runs great !
but it have no effect when i'm playing some music ... maybe it's because of the "OneKey Theater" ? -
Sounds like a read/write delay in the HDD to me. I've never played Skyrim, but a lot of more recent games have seemless loading, ie the game loads in the background as you move along the map or trigger certain events. That's likely your stutter. So, instead of getting a "Loading" screen, you get a brief stutter. Could also be a quicksave. Get a speedy SSD to resolve your issue, or i think there is a way to push a specific directory to the cache SSD. You'll have to do some googling there, as it's done via command line... if Skyrim isn't too large to fit the the tiny cache drive. Skyrim is an older game, I'd be very surprised if the hardware in the Y410P isn't up to the task. Your "measely" 2.4GHz i7 has more than enough meat on its bones.
Also at the temps you listed you shouldn't be throttling. Run HW monitor and keep an eye on the "Max" column. If you start seeing temps in the 90's you'll begin throttling the CPU. I was, and I reduced my max turbo with on 3 and 4 cores to 3.0GHz, and undervolted CPU vCore by 100mV and CPU vCache by 80mV. That seems to keep my CPU in the low 80's. -
TheTrickyWitcher Notebook Enthusiast
Ok thanks! I've reinstalled Skyrim anyway and I'm gonna see if the lag goes away. And I don't think there are SSD options? And you're telling me to run HWMonitor in the background while playing? I think that will eat up more cpu resources, because I already have Nexus Mod Manager running too. And can you tell me what the Turbo Boost shortcut does and how I can use it to overclock? I'm gonna get a cooling pad! -
Uninstall ONEKey theater and reboot. Also i found the Dolby used by the S430 (i posted link above) is the one that works best with Y series.ValVraVex likes this.

Played around with this laptop and lurked on the threads a bit; I have a few questions I would like to ask all you veterans
1. I heard there's modded BIOS for underclocking the CPU? Link and suggestions for how far to underclock?
2. Some times the screen will randomly turn black when it's idle, not a big deal since it never happens when I'm using it, but is this normal? Using the drivers provided by the Nvidia updater thingy.
3. Getting FPS drops randomly now when playing TF2, didn't happen before. Might be the game's fault so I'm reinstalling it.
4. Anything else I should do to get the most out of my Y410p? I already uninstalled most bloatware except a few thing that I'm not sure about.
P.S. Thanks again Jobine, for helping me pick this laptop

1. Lenovo Y410p / Y510p - unlocked BIOS / wlan whitelist mod / vbios mod
2. Make sure the display does not turn itself off when idling, you can change that in the Windows power settings
3. Might be a patch issue. Upgrade/downgrade your drivers if that helps
4. Not that i know of
-
TheTrickyWitcher Notebook Enthusiast
For TF2... Make sure you're using the nvidia GPU. The integrated will most likely be able to handle it fine, but will stutter once in a while. And also check your temps!
And yeah... Does anyone know why in task manager it says my max processor speed is 2.40 Ghz, and it says it's currently 3.30 Ghz? -
Turbo Boost. 2.4 is the base clock, 3.3 is the extra speed turbo boost is getting you.
I would suggest undervolting instead of underclocking. Underclocking will hurt your performance and not save much power. Undervolting will not hurt performance and save you power.
To undervolt just install the Intel XTU utility (no bios mod needed) and see how much you can undervolt while keeping the system stable. -
I order my lenovo y410p yesterday to toronto, canada. the status is "released to manufacturing" that means that the laptop is not made yet? in the email said that the laptop will arrive on 12/27/2013. But if the laptop is not made yet do you think it can arrive on the date they said? i really need to know because I shipped the laptop to my cousin in canada and she will come to Panama (where I live) on January 11. It have to be after 11 January or i will be dead
.
You think it can arrive before 11 January of 2014??
sorry for my awfull english. -
TheTrickyWitcher Notebook Enthusiast
Mine took two weeks to arrive. You could see where I live in Canada.
Does this stay consistent while playing games? And how would I know if my CPU is throttling because of this? -
And it says released to manufacturing on the shipping status? you know what it means?
-
TheTrickyWitcher Notebook Enthusiast
Could be bug. And yes, that means it is being built.... Like I said, could be a mistake, the tracker said it was shipping, but It arrived, and I refreshed the next day, still said "shipping".... It might come. Also, what will she be doing on the laptop? Just to offer some tips.
-
I will use this laptop for gaming (all types of games), see movies, make homeworks (Word, excel...). sometimes i will take it to college hoping the battery can last me 4 hours of web searching and using microsoft office. I hope the laptop can last me for 3 years.

Soooo..... I game on this thing a lot too. And just warning you.... Get a cooling pad!

So it seems that I was correct with the crackling sound being a driver problem. Rolling back to the stock lenovo drivers seems to have fixed it.

Thank for the tip!
If i conect the laptop y410p to my tv (40' full HD) and play games in Full hd can i burn the gpu? You dont recomend that? It is my first laptop for gaming there is too much things i dont know. -
When I say the screen turns black, I mean it it flickers by turning off then turns on again, on it's own.
I believe this is the same thing causing the FPS drops, how can I revert back to the Lenovo drivers?
Also, I didn't know underclocking and undervolting were any different, since I'm looking for longer battery life I guess I will undervolt.
What voltage should I aim for?
Thanks again
-
Every CPU will have different thresholds for undervolting, but in general it looks like most can reach around -80mV, with some hitting even further.
You can just play with it in Intel XTU with the slider till you find something that doesn't BSOD. Start with a safe voltage, then go a little less until you bsod, then you know the lowest you can go and then just pick a safe voltage -
1080P will put a heavier load on the GPU than 900p, but it shouldn't damage anything. just make sure that all the ai rvents are unobstructed. You'll also see lower FPS at 1080p so you may have to reduce graphical settings for your game to run smoothly.
The CPU goes into turbo mode based on processor load and available thermal headroom. So, run HW monitor in the background and see! If you're seeing max temps in the 90's, it will drop back down to the base 2.4 GHz, otherwise it should stay higher. -
Using Intel XTU my Vcore is -100mV, Vcache is -80mV, and iGPU is -80mV. I also reduced my max turbo when using 3 or 4 cores to 3.0GHz. This resulted in a reduction of 10*C or more. Basically this allows my i7 to stay in turbo longer. You aren't attempting to game on battery are you? That's pretty much a no-no, as it reduces the GT750M's performance by about 90%.kirkydaturkey likes this.

When gaming on battery, use the iHD 4600, it's a semi-decent chip, should perform on par with the GT 710M.
Undervolting helps, yes, but also you should drop your top multiplier to 33, it will lower throttling by a good amount for an almost negligible loss in performance, since for some reason this laptop can't maintain 3.4ghz very long (however 3.3 can be held very long).kirkydaturkey likes this. -
Can someone upload bios mod for the y410p ?
EDIT: Nvm,i got it now -
guys i bought this :

I'm using this computer for school as well, so I prefer some extra battery life on the go, not for gaming
Undervolted the Vcore and Vcache to -80mV, may test more later. The XTU doesn't need to run in the background for the undervolt to work right?
Also reduced the multiplier to 33x, the Cache ratio dropped along with it, seems to be linked?
Fixed the FPS drops by reinstalling drivers, looks like a settings was messing it up. The screen still flickers a bit, but not when I'm using it so no biggie.
Thanks again guise

What temperatures are people getting with games like far cry 3? I was wondering if having constant 85 degrees celsius temp while playing games would lessen the lifespan dramatically?

By default the 4700mq only turbos to x34 (3.4GHz) when one core is loaded. I haven't noticed an issue while only one is core consuming power. Truth be told, I haven't noticed any performance issues at all, even when it does throttle. The i7 4700mq is quite a mobile powerhouse. I'm mostly concerned with not melting THIS nVidia chip off my motherboard (HP, I'm looking at you!)kirkydaturkey likes this.

I want the 59399853, but don't like the 62wh battery, while all the new ones have a 72wh battery.
Also, anyone know the difference between Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230 and Intel® Wireless-N 7260 (802.11bgn). Do they perform the same? -
I'm pondering the installation of a new screen for my y400(y410). The hardware is excellent, but the low quality, low resolution panel really takes a toll on the it's usability. I wanted to know if there are any recommended replacement panels that are high quality and higher resolution (1080p preferably).
So far the only 14" panel I've seen that may work is that of the Thinkpad T440s:
IBM-Lenovo THINKPAD T440S 20AQ005SUS Notebook Display Replacement | LAPTOP & TABLET LCD SCREEN FROM $34.99.
I'm out of my element regarding laptop panels however so any help is appreciated.
