Finally put together a short video that I made a couple months ago when I switched out my HDD for my SSD. The file size is 300mb which wouldn't be a problem if I wasn't back home from college with my 40kbps upload speed haha. It's nothing special, but it might help some people who are doing this for their first time. I'll upload it next time I go to my friend's house.

You could do it if you plugged your computer into another monitor or TV that has 1080p resolution. Though 720p looks perfect on large monitors since you can run the game smoother than if it was 1080p.

I think so, but i just find it wierd that they put up a 650M on their site 6 months after discontinuing the Y400. Plus it could work with Ember's dSLI, if anyone wants to bite the bullet and get one.

I'm just finding it fishy, who knows, Lenovo's site is not known for it's accuracy. Maybe it could be a 750...

So theres this loud grinding type sound that comes from the right side of my laptop occasionally. Even just while browsing or streaming, so it doesn't seem too good. I think it may be coming from the hard drive, does anyone have any additional ideas as to what it might be?

Btw, can someone send me a link to a video that shows how to get the HDD out. I wanna ask lenovo to send me a new HDD so I can replace it myself. Thank you!

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." :p

It's undoubtedly a 650M. GN35, part number, and Nvidia codename all point to it. This is not a new item; it's been on the Lenovo website since they first began selling Y500/Y400 Ultrabay accessories. I remember seeing it when I ordered my Y500 back in March because I bought my Ultrabay GPU and 170 W PSU separately.

Basically take out the battery and ultrabay, remove screws, carefully remove bottom cap and then you can easily upgrade HDD/Wifi/M.2/RAM

In a screenshot I saw of the opened up y410p, theres some weird aluminumish covering on the HDD, whats that about?

And on another note, I've never really done anything like this before. So how would I go about getting all my informations (OS/files/etc) onto a new HDD i put in

How does one go about SLIing this laptop? Is there a specific ultrabay thing I have to buy?

EDIT:Wait so apparently they've been saying it'll be out soon for months now? Wow such bs can I get a refund on this even if I bought it during August?

Don't take their word for it. Buy the 650M on Lenovo.com, then use Ember's dSLI mod to get it working, and then cross your fingers. If it doesn't work, send the card back.

I've already announced that this is not the laptop you wanna buy if you wanna SLI.

That's actually the HDD tray. It's a steel/alum tray that the HDD screws into. The tray then screws into the laptop. It may also provide some sort of electrical grounding and EMI shielding.

To directly clone your existing drive to a new platter HDD you'll want to use a product like Acronis to clone the drive. If you're upgrading to a SSD you'd want to "migrate" your data. Samsung provides SW to do this with some of their drives. It's a slightly different approach.

98C CPU temp playing Just Cause 2 multiplayer. This is higher than stress testing because the GPU is also maxed.

I was playing BF3 for a while today and it stayed at 81C the whole time so that's running fine. Skyrim is acting odd though. Maybe it's because of the latest NVIDIA driver but it's all laggy, as if it's running on the Intel GPU. Meh, typical back-and-forth stability problems with PC games hah.

Dunno, this was on a unit that I returned. Coulda been a bad CPU bin, paste job, heatsink mount, etc. Also being in an 80-90° F room and using ThrottleStop to force 3.2 GHz on all cores didn't help.

Unit I'm on now got repasted and is running atop a cooling pad, so now I top out at mid-80's, about 20° C cooler than before. Still using ThrottleStop and room is hot as hell but temps are good enough for me.

With undervolting and a few modifier tweaks it floats at around 78-81 and almost never throttles, yet my primary core is still running @ 3.4 GHz for dat emulator performance :)

    (-90mV Core, -60mV Cache, 0mV iGP)

Though recently i moved all my big intensive games to my desktop (specs in signature). Now i just play casual games and emulators on my Y410p.

My i7-3630QM never throttles either due to ThrottleStop. It's always running at 3.2-3.4 GHz in games. Stock volts because mobile Ivy Bridge lacks voltage control.

I bought the same exact mouse you have as I'm planning to buy this laptop in the future. They look so nice together.

And then I have two of its sister version, the blue/black one for my desktop. Great mice :).

    Hi.

I have one of the older y410p models with the 48wh battery and n2230 wifi. Does anyone know if the wifi card is upgrade-able to the 7260 ones that the newer models have? Also, thinking about getting the 72wh battery.

I was just about to ask the same question! I had seen multiple people report that the connectivity issues with the 2230 disappear over time, and I simply have not found that to be the case, having owned it since August. If it's possible to put a different wifi card in there that will still let me keep secureboot enabled, I'm very interested.

Also, if I bought this laptop in August, I'm guessing it came with the 48wh battery? How much larger is the 72wh battery?

Yeah it's a great affordable mouse and it's beautiful with the matching red lights. A downside I noticed right away is that the lack of rear USB ports. Rear USB ports would make all the wiring look a lot neater

Before I pull the trigger, I just thought I'd verify that this is the 72wh battery? The tech specs doesn't seem to list that info, and I'd hate to end up with a second 48wh battery.

    Code:
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: Thank you for contacting Lenovo Sales Chat. My name is Siva and my Rep ID is 2900713401. Happy to help you today.
    jobine: Hello
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: Hi Jobine, how are you doing today?
jobine: i wanna talk about a specific accessory you are selling
    jobine: im doing rather well
jobine: more specifically, this one: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/itemdetails/0C22230/460/3E71FB3EB22D4A308B517832F7D2264A
    jobine: Is this a 650M or 750M?
    jobine: ...
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: This is the 650M Graphic card.
    jobine: ok thanks
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: You are welcome.
    jobine: i have a question
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: May I know how soon you are planning to purchase?
    jobine: another*
jobine: it's a bit more technical
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: Sure, please go ahead.
    jobine: So, i currently own a 750M equipped Y410p
jobine: if i would pop in the said card i referred to above, would it be *recognized* be the device manager (not SLI capable)?
jobine: The reason i am saying this is because i know a special third party tool i can use to mod Nvidia's drivers to get both 650M and 750M GDDR5 2GB to SLI together, i just wanna make sure the laptop can even recognize the card before purchasing
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: The Removable Graphics GN35 is compatible with the Y410p.
jobine: like i said, the Y410p is 750M, and GN35 is 650M, they shouldn't be compatible by default, i just wanna know if i pop the card into the laptop, will it be recognized, not SLI-ready out of the box
    jobine: in other words
jobine: could i use the 650M as a physX card?
jobine: can you test this for me?
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: Yes, you can.
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: There will be not be any issue with this model.
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: You can use it without any hassel.
jobine: um ok, that is all
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: May I know how soon you are planning to purchase?
jobine: well, if you guys would sell the card on lenovo canada, that would be a start
jobine: right now it only seems to be present to the Lenovo US website
jobine: but then again can i just order from US and get free shipping to canada?
^Vaka Siva Gnaneshwar Rao: Due to U.S. export restrictions and policies, Lenovo does not ship international orders outside the United States.
jobine: because all of your products on both Canadian and US sites are marked as free shipping anyways
    jobine: ...
jobine: then i won't be purchasing
jobine: thank you for your time
But so far, it seems as if the 650M can be used as a phsyX card, so if that's true then it should be a few clicks away from dSLI. Unfortunately due to being Canadian, i will not be purchasing it. Anyone wanna pull the plug?

    Hello,

I recently purchased a Lenovo y410p and I received it today.
After opening it and staring it up everything seemed to be fine but I quickly noticed that my internet was significant lower than usual. Normally I get about 5-6 Mbps (which isn't much but more than enough for my use) but on this laptop I was getting .5-1 Mbps. I checked the drivers to make sure they were updated and they were.

Contacted Lenovo support but they were no help, they just transferred me from department to department.

    Specs
    4th Generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
    Windows 8.1 64
14.0" HD+ Glossy LED Backlit with integrated camera 1600x900
    NVIDIA GeForce GT755M GDDR5 2GB
    8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz
    1TB 5400 RPM+24GB SSD
    DVD Recordable (Dual Layer)
    Intel® Wireless-N 7260 (802.11bgn)

    * To clarify I have using wireless not a direct Ethernet cable and I was 4ft away from the router

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Completely uninstall your current drivers, PROset included

    2. Install this driver, which does not come with that POS called proset:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/co...oductProduct=Intel®+Dual+Band+Wireless-N+7260

    (accept the terms)

PROset is that bad, and chances are you were using the wrong driver.

    Hello,

I am interested in this laptop. I have a budget of $800. On the official website it says $779, on sale from $1349. That's amazing, but it might be up to another month before I have the money. Any guesses on when the sale will end? Thank you. :)

Alright, so I just got into unboxing my laptop last night and I had serious Wifi issues. Rather than intermittent signal I just got connected and was limited right off the bat. I tried all the DNS reset and TCP reset as well as reinstalling drivers rolling back and disabling IPS v6.
What finally worked for me was just going into network settings, going specifically into the wifi settings and disabling everything on the menu, as well as choosing 20MHz as the default.
Now I'm connected and while i basically self gimped my card as a result at least it's working

The sale never ends, it's just that in March there will most likely be a Maxwell refresh.
