That's the beauty of moving everything from C:/Users to your HDD. Your ssd with the OS on it doesn't really get anything additional put in it, all the additional documents are placed in the corresponding folder of the HDD and read from there. I'm guessing the windows 7 Jobine is using doesn't have the hibernation or some of the other more useless space taking features + since all his extraneous documents are placed elsewhere it seems to fit nicely on the 24gb ssd. I might do this too, too bad windows 8 doesn't really seem feasible to compress down that far
-
2. I have home-made scripts and tools that clean out various system caches, including thumbnails.
3. Indexing is disabled on the SSD, but enabled on the HDD.
4. Page file is relocated to HDD.
5. All my %AppData% is on the HDD, this includes all my browser cache, emails, game settings etc.
6. I'm really careful with what i install. Like i said, my laptop is not my primary device anymore, my desktop is.
7. System restore disabled.
8. Hibernate disabled
9. I have a script that auto-deletes folders such as C:/Drivers and C:/Nvidia, my drivers are all stored on an external device anyways in case i need them
10. Games are installed on D:/games
Just a few to name off the top of my head. Don't worry, i'm good with these setups. I ran XP off a 10GB drive for around 5 years -

I just went to a retail store and saw a Toshiba M840-1065XG. It has INTEL CORE I7-3632QM, AMD Radeon HD 7670M, 8gb ddr3 ram, 1TB hdd with a 14" 1366x768 display. Its current on sale in singapore being S$400 cheaper than then the lenovo y410p. Do you think its worth it?

Is intel Centrino 6200 AGN from my old laptop better option than 7260 from Lenovo?
BTW im really missing track point and middle mouse button from my old LAttitude 6410 -
-
I know about dual band, thats why i bought 7260 in a first place, but than it turned out, thats single channel. So i have option co exchange it with my Latitude card. I dont mind moding bios
-
Versions 1.07, 1.09, 1.10, 2.04 and 2.07 are supported. Be sure to check which version have have before you flash. -
i checked it minute ago, im stuck with 3-05 bios version

good news, lenovo was able to send me a replacement in time and I just received it. I did a quick check before I took off for a 9 hour drive back to SoCal.
elan touchpad, AUO panel, toshiba m2 ssd, samsung ram, 56whr battery and 7260 wireless NIC.
panel looks much better, but still grainy. it doesnt look oily or fuzzy at all. everything else is looking and functioning properly. load temps are decent too. CPU 85C with prime95 with turbo going to 2.8ghz and furmark with GPU at 83C and CPU at 76C both 100% load. I did notice CPU speed was kept at 2.4ghz and not kicking into turbo. I think i will install Intel XTU and keep it like that.kirkydaturkey likes this. -
What's the longest the 62 Watt battery can last? I want to get that model because of the improved network card, but can't find anyone selling the 72 Watt battery separately, so I may have to make do with 62 watt. My currently laptop has a 6 hour battery, how much less would the 62 Watt be? Thanks!

Y410p successor (Y40) confirmed to have FHD.

The new Y40 and Y50 look amazing. They don't have the ultrabay drive anymore but they are a lot thinner and faster. The Y50 even has a full UHD (4K) screen!

There's a quick video of the Y50 from CNET here:

I read that both the Y40 and Y50 start at $1000. Does anyone know how much more the Y40's AMD Radeon M270 graphics card update will cost, and how good it is compared to the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT755M offered in the Y410P? Thanks!
-
Why would they add AMD graphics in. I hope they will not do it, because that would be deal breaker for me. AMD in no go for me.

(if you dont spend your year salary on it)
I do have y410p and everything seems OK (power based, quality based i have lot of problems with this compared to my old e6410, but hey i need power right, not user smooth experience) -
The Y40 will have R9 270M (8790M rebranded, which is about as good as the current 755M) and the Y50 will have the 860M (765M rebranded).
Also, the new model have significantly more red, the speakers are a bright red and even the usb ports are painted red.
Also, the Y40 WILL NOT HAVE A TOUCHSCREEN.
At least the Y40 will be somewhat of a worthy successor, a little thinner, a little lighter, while maintaining all the functionality of the Y410p such as the optical drive and bringing in a new, nicer FHD display. -
In wonder if anyone else encountered this strange problem. I keep my laptop plugged in often, so I keep the Optimized Battery Health option checked. Unfortunately, this does not stick for long. The option changes very often and the battery charges to 100%.

hey guys, just got my y410p.
everything is great, but for the touchpad. Multi touch JUST WONT WORK. Help me with this.. :'(
and it also gives me this error 00xd0000225 cannot switch accounts when i try to log in with my hotmail account. -
On another note, I just received my y410p but I'm glad I did mainly because I feel the current resolution, ultra bay and combo of hardware suits my taste better. -

Most sources say the Y40 doesn't have an optical drive.
I wonder what Lenovo did with the extra space there. -

Hi all,
I just got my y410p today, after using hp dv5 for 6 years now it feels like i have a super computer
One question, I've used to work on windows 7 and got used to it, now windows 8 feels like little odd. So I wonder if it's a good idea to format my brand new y410p and install windows 7 ultimate 64bit? Anyone done with that? What about performance with win7 64 bit? Drivers fit nice and easy?
Thanks in advance, -

Agreed, StartIsBack is the best at what it does.

It's only been a few months...but...damn that Y40 looks GOOOD
I think I'm gonna make this my household brand from now on -
Ordered one this week, shipped already!
Meant to replace a Toshiba that never worked very well, and only has Intel 3000HD anyway. Hoping the 410 will be a good general purpose machine along with a good gaming rig for awhile. -

Some eye candy for you guys:
Am i the only one who notices they copied a good amount from the G46VW? After seeing one today i can say it reminds me of it. -
Copied from the G46VW how? I don't see any design language similarities. The ASUS is a compact but thick, heavy tank in the style of the Alienware 14, this looks like it fits within Ultrabook size specificiations.
-
-
Still don't see it. I owned a G73JH for a couple years and that ASUS comparison never would've occurred to me.

there seem to be some wifi issue with my new y410p. I am able to connect to wifi eventually but there is a minute delay before it connects automatically or find networks to connect to. I do not know why there is this delay ( every time I start the computer up from anything including sleep). When I first got the laptop, my wifi would connect within seconds but now it takes about a minute. I have the Intel® Wireless-N 7260.
thank you for the help! -
How does the lenovo y40/50 cool itself. I dont think a thin laptop like that would have adeqate cooling. Anyone have any insight?
