Y50 has number pad and Y40 does not have UHD (only FHD).

Well, I could not stop myself with the idea of installing `nice and clean OS` on my new Y410P. I've installed the win7 after an hour struggle. But I guess because of format and it's struggle I wasn't able to see my SSD drive till I tried to set things on windows 7 manage menu. Now it looks like below image, so it looks like I've found the SSD drive right?

    Untitledd.jpg
    Untitled.jpg

And another question from this old fashioned guy. How I can use my SSD drive to make the system faster? I've never used SSD drives before so as far as I've read that I can install the windows on SSD? Or I can boot from SSD? I would really appreciated if someone tell me how to use my laptop better and faster with SSD drive.

So I bought a Y410P. Overall, Im pretty happy with the purchase (aside from some issues with the keyboard and mousepad, but Im currently waiting for them to be repaired).

Question though, is Lenovo EVER going to release Ultrabay addons for this laptop?
If they dont, Im going to be pretty pissed off.

Thanks for your opinion. I have decided to go to malaysia to buy my lenovo y410p. It will be about $1250 SGD which is S$350 cheaper than the version sold in singapore. Downside is the 1366x768 screen and the slightly weaker 750m gpu. But i can live with that and the savings could get me a new screen if i wanted to.

I'm extremely happy with this laptop. I bought a whole bunch of games on steam and at 720p 60fps it amazes me every time...it sits right in front of the 360/ps3..super quiet doing its thing. Main reason for purchase was app development and I can do my design work on the road but I'm really enjoying pc gaming after decades thanks to this bad boy.

Hey Jobine I'll take the number pad just for the UHD :D

Im unable to get 1920x1200 resolution on my external monitor.

Y410p is settup to Projector only but i see only 1920x1080 which distort my 1920x1200 monitor.

I was using google, powerstrip but nothing helps.

currently i have set maximum performance and nvidia set to power

I turned it into my desktop PC today, so i will be using it more often. For laptop i will stick to my e6410. I will keep posted if i will have any issues. I cant confirm any performance difference, because i was not using W8 very often. But i dont see any point, why W7 should be slower (if not faster)

That's what I figured. I did a 2013 Top Games poll, and only played 5 games that came out this year on the Toshiba.

I'm eally looking forward to catching up with Skyrim (still not played), Metro, Swapper and others. Not a huge gamer, but would like to have the option to play a few more curent titles.

So what's the recomended set up with the 1TB and 256SD in regards to partioning? Assume Windows comes installed on the SSD?

Be sure to disable the touchpad if you're using it as a desktop, as I've seen ghost clicks occur.

(assuming you are using an external keyboard).

About the slowdown when hitting 60fps.... Do you guys think hooking up the laptop to a desktop monitor and switching the main display to the desktop monitor will solve the slowdown?

At least on the y50, there are two fan vents on the back edge. Much thinner and more powerful laptops like the Razer Blade can cool themselves adequately also.

The 24GB is not recommended to be used as an OS drive anyways. You should install expresscache instead and let it handle the SSD management, it will automatically cache your most used data for faster storage.

Based on your screenshots your 24GB SSD is fine. No drivers needed. You can use it as a drive to put frequently used files on, or let expresscache use it to speed up your boot. Go to the Lenovo site to download any drivers you need.

Can someone explain the little 24GB "D" drive, which I assume is solid state, to me? I see it has some Lenovo info on it, but what can I do with it? Is it solely for Lenovo use or can you actually install games or programs to it to get the benefits of the faster transfer speeds? I'm a bit in the dark with regards to these hybrid drive configurations.

    D:/Lenovo is NOT the SSD.

D:/Lenovo is a partition on the HDD containing the drivers

You can't see the HDD. It's contents are used by Expresscache.

So I can't actually see the little solid state drive? Is there any way to take advantage of it? Not familiar with Expresscache, do I have it on the 410p?

Yes, it is installed by default.

Open command prompt as admin, and type "eccmd.exe -info" without quotes and paste your output here.

In other words, expresscache is working swimmingly. Unless you plan to reinstall your OS, you should not uninstall Expresscache. However, feel free to delete the D:/Lenovo partition to gain 24GB of space on the HDD.

Hi, I have just tried to upgrade to this wifi card model 7260HMWBN on my Y410p that I got over the summer. Just to let everyone know, it does not work, was hoping for a better card without messing with the BIOS. Oh wel,l would be great if someone found one that worked better than the N2230 and works.

    Plus:

I've installed `expresscache_setup_64` that suggested by Lenovo support specialist. Then I did `eccmd.exe -info` on commandprompt and I got this message:

"'eccmd.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Looks like my SSD is not active and staying on board for nothing. What can I do now? How can I activate and use?

    1. Delete all partitions on your SSD and uninstall any form of expresscache.
    2. try this one and tell me if it worked: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/expresscache_setup_64.exe

I only max the clocks when benchmarking, otherwise I stick with something like 200 core 300 memory, never gets over 90, usually between 80 and 85 under max load. Kepler is very overclockeable.

I actually have a 750, not a 755 but I put 755 to differentiate my card from the DDR3 editions

That seems quite good. I might do something like 150 core 300 memory. Your signature does say that you have a 750m DDR5 edition. and i know as well. Ive seen most of the post on this thread within 2 months or so.

To anyone having issues with the speakers popping on shutdown when running Linux on your Y410p, head to your shutdown scripts folder (this varies from distro to distro), and insert the following line into an existing script or create a new script with the following line:

    rmmod -f snd_hda_intel
