The connectors are M.2 NGFF connectors which is used for the 24gb caching ssd. The dvdrom uses sata connection. Using that caddy, you should be able to put in the ssd just fine. The wifi issues were drivers problems, not hardware problems. Just update the drivers and it should be fine.

thanks, one more thing, I note that the one I am intending to order has HD GLARE screen. is this one of those stupid screens which turn into a mirror with little bit of light?
"14.0" HD Glare with integrated camera 1366x768"

I don't want a machine which is useless when I open a window or go in the lawn.

yes, its glossy screen. The y510p has a matte version if you need the capability of using in broad daylight. You can also try to find a matte screen and replace the screen of the y410p either yourself or by finding an expert.

I dont have a option to make the resolution 1920x1080 and i can confirm my HDTV is Full HD. I can only set it at my laptops screen resolution of 1366x768 and not higher :( I havent tested gaming to the HDTV, just an HD movie and it can only run at 1366x768 or im missing something and there is a setting im not configuring correctly or a tweak that is out that i dont know about. I hope my notebook doesnt have a factory fault. Im not sure on what else to do

That can be fixed with a matte screen protector. Personally i have enjoyed my 1366x768 screen, gaming is lag-free and extraordinary as the Graphics card Nvidia GT755m works great with this display, less pixels to move around and flawless gaming.

My y410p comes with a single 1600mhz 8gb ram. Is it possible to make it work dual channel if another 8gb ram or do i need to get the same mhz and the same latency?

Your second stick needs to be 1600 or higher, if its higher than 1600 it will downclock itself to 1600.

Also, I have an earlier model with 2x4 GB :O

Does the latency matter? mine is the malaysia version. Maybe just regional. 2x4gb is faster if not upgrading though.

Ram speed will probably only give 1-2% more performance in traditional computing, however having dual channel RAM will significantly increase the performance of the HD 4600, but if you are gaming you will be using the GT 755M anyways... so i'd stay get 1x8GB and then upgrade to 2x8GB down the road, i'm actually happy that Lenovo is now offering 1x8 instead of 2x4, makes upgrades easier.

As for me, i will probably buy a new laptop when 8GB of RAM will become insufficient. Nothing i do on this laptop exceeds 3-4GB anyways.

    Hello all!
Received my y410p last week. 4 business days from ordering. Immediately started having issues with 8.1 Performed a clean install of 8pro and issues began! Many attempts to reset expresscache ended up yielding and I/o error with the 24gb m.2ssd. 100% hard disk usage when either Intel rapid store technology or expresscache were running. 322.21 nvidia drivers which were a headache to install prior to clean install were installed with ease after the clean install but then began crashing randomly and eventually whenever I loaded up a game with the dedicated card. Called lenovo tech support, they are sending a replacement y410p.

Question for when the new machine arrives-
Could someone give me details one what format and partitions are on the 24gb m.2ssd stock?
Is anyone running 322.21 without issues on the gt755m?
Is anyone getting excessive screen tearing with that card as well?
Has anyone installed windows on the 24gb m.2ssd? Would it be more beneficial than using it for caching?

So, latency and dual channel memory doesn't really matter if i am not using the integrated graphics and i should just get the cheapest ddr3l 8gb ram 1600mhz when i am upgrading right?

Yes. Higher frequency RAM will be downclocked anyways, and regular DDR3 will not boot.

How long did the 100% disk usage persist? ExpressCache needs to copy stuff every time the cache is cleared/reset. Usually the disk settles down after a few minutes.

Screen tearing for me depends on the game. I've gotten a ton on bioshock and dirt 3, but not as much for battlefield 4/counter strike. Try turning on V-sync

I have the 750m, and the latest drivers are working fine. Windows on the ssd seems like a bad idea since you won't be able to put any applications on the ssd afterwards, but it's definitely possible.

limits your frame rate and creates a lot of input lag, if you want to win at your video game of choice never use v-sync or triple buffering.

To answer his other question, I use windows 7 on my y410p and nvidia driver version 322.21 literally killed my performance, no joke bf3 went from 40-54 fps to 12-13fps, however the 334.67 beta drivers work great for me, all the performance of version 331.93 plus an up to date version of the nvidia experience software, definitely give that a shot.

I honestly haven't tried debian yet so I'lll give that a run, but did you have any compatibility issues with the Nvidia card in linux? and if you did, how did you fix them?

I've used elementary os and mint so far, mint won't boot up after the initial install (would only work in compatibility mode before install) and Elementary OS would have a continuously flickering cursor until I installed a proprietary nvidia driver that would make that unbootable too.

Haven't used the Nvidia card under Linux, since nothing i did under Linux needs the dGPU to run smoothly, even the HD 4600 had no problem playing Steam games like TF2 and Garrys Mod.

Also, you need to install bumblebee, not the actual nvidia driver.

Debian Jessie (not Wheezy) ran pretty well on the laptop assuming you don't use the Nvidia card. Note that most of the hardware in the Y410p requires kernel 3.8 or later, so that leaves distros like CentOS and Debian Stable in the dust, and i recommend 3.11 for best compatiblity.

30 days no-worries return policy, however after that you are out of luck. This being said, the GT 755M is just a factory overclocked version of the 750M, so you there is no point upgrading. Also, the older Y410p's have mod-able BIOSes so you can just install a WiFi card of choice, newer Y410p's aren't compatible with the BIOS mod as far as i know. You can pick up an Intel 7260AC (better than the N version given by Lenovo) on Amazon for 30$ US or Canadian. Install is pretty straightforward, flash the modded BIOS, open the laptop, swap the cards.

gave Debian a shot, flickering cursor plus couldn't get wifi to work so that's a no go.

re-installed elementary os, installed kernel version 3.13 and it boots up without turning off the backlight and most everything works, but the cursor still won't stop flickering with kernel 3.13 and bumblebee installed.

strange thing is it works perfect when first booting up and using the midori browser, but if I open up any other software then it starts flickering and won't stop until reboot.

    appreciate the help thus far,
    - Tyler

edit: flickering occurs even with discrete graphics disabled in bios
edit 2: lol, tried uninstalling bumblebee and now it's unbootable

Currently using ShadowPlay to record videos and it's by far the best free video capture I've found.
I had been trying to figure out the best settings for Fraps and Razer's video capture software (cause that's what I saw other people using), but I could not figure out the best settings for those. All the videos were extremely choppy and the quality of Fraps was definitely the worst.
I plan on using ShadowPlay for good now, but I'll still never understand how others configured the settings for Fraps haha.

Fraps has a huge impact on the FPS, unlike Dxtory
Dxtory reduces the FPS 5 frames only but it needs a fast hdd
watch JACKFRAGS Dxtory setup, i tried it, worked nice for me:

CaseLogic makes a nice sleeve in the 14 inch size. You can check it out here.

EDIT: Looks like Lafius already posted the same sleeve earlier. Two for the CaseLogic then.

I currently do this, but it's kind of a burden, especially to see how bloated my bad becomes once i shove in textbooks and stuff. Hence why i will be getting a sleeve + backpack.

Since amazon gives free shipping with orders over 35$, i don't see why not to add an Intel 7260 AC to my order :)

The case logic looks nice, my only concern is will it fit the Y410p, which is a bit bigger than normal 14 inch laptops.

it's normal for this laptop if sitting on a solid surface, try propping up the rear of your laptop (the two rubber feet under your screen) with some solid flat item about .5-1 inch tall (I use wirespools).

there is an air intake on the bottom of these laptops, when they're sitting on a flat surface the internals get so hot that they take in hot air they create, when you prop it up you get proper ventilation.

If that isn't enough (and in a room with no A/C it isn't) try removing your DVD drive and leaving the ultra bay empty as that gets a little more air moving through the system.

    tl:dr
prop up rear of your laptop for proper ventillation
remove your dvd drive and leave it empty when gaming

this works for me and here's hoping it works for you,

I didn't say to remove the rubber feet, but the rear of the laptop needs a half to a full inch of ground clearance

so in my case the rubber feet are sitting on wire spools, pic attached
    lifted like a brotruck.JPG

this with the dvd drive removed it stress tests at 84'C in Furmark, without em it hits 96'C
