Actually, driver updates do not fix the wifi issues unfortunately. It's just Lenovo being terrible. Lenovo doesn't even allow updating the Intel HD4400 drivers without going through hoops of uninstalling it completely and rebooting because it's not "approved" by Lenovo.

Is it possible for Lenovo to replace my 1366x768 notebook screen for a 1600x900? Is it worth the upgrade or should I not worry too much?

My FPS dips down to 10 frames in any game even CS:GO every 6-7 seconds !
any Idea?
Edit :
I uninstalled some programs especially gpu-z (i think it caused the problem, not sure)
restarted ... and everything is OK now. -

If you really need to get a better monitor for watching movie, find a 23 inch ips 1080p monitor in the market. Aftermarket screens voids your warranty. You can call up lenovo and see if they would upgrade for you at a fee.

hi, I just bought the laptop and have Windows 7 installed, I manage to get majority of the drivers installed but I cant seem to get the wifi driver installed. Every time I tried installing the driver, half way through it will give me an error "bsutilcs stopped working". Is there a fix to this problem?

Thank you for the reply. These external monitors connect via HDMI or VGA? You recommend IPS over LCD monitors?

strange thing is it works perfect when first booting up and using the midori browser, but if I open up any other software then it starts flickering and won't stop until reboot.

Hi, I am interested in y410p. Is the difference in screen quality between baseline and final model justifiable to shill out extra 100?
I will be using it for university and gaming. No video editing.
IdeaPad Y410p High-Performance 14" Multimedia Laptop from Lenovo | Lenovo (CA)
- because I was thinking of saving the 100, and getting a SSD
Also, is there difference in battery life of both the machines?
Finally, anything I should know about the two models (subtle differences etc?) -
Sorry if this has already been covered in this thread somewhere.
I'm having problems with charging the battery prior to using Lenovo Energy management console, I did a reset gauge on my battery and it deleted it all the way to 0 and I couldn't get it to charge again.
I then unplugged the ac adapter from both the wall outlet and notebook then plugged everything back in and ran the laptop on AC power then I had to plug in the battery when on and it would only charge up the battery. So weird, I'm unable to charge the battery if ever unplug it and plug it back in. Must be some sort of bug that should have a solution to? Thanks -

Yes!! Just received my laptop!
Just a couple very quick impressions: Its much lighter than I thought (don't know why some people were saying its heavy but maybe it's just cause I carried around a 6 pound HP laptop for the longest time), keyboard lighting is great, sound is decent, I still don't like windows 8.
By the way, anybody know a trustworthy program to get rid of bloatware? -
Please can someone help or has anyone experienced this issue... Sorry if this has already been covered in this thread somewhere.

From previous posts:
I prefer using CC cleaner to uninstall bloatware. Do that and begin uninstalling first. You can get rid of McAffee now, but especially ALL ProSet Wireless programs, then uninstall the wireless card driver in the device manager, restart 2 times so that Win8 installs the older and more reliable drivers (Jobine made a post about this if you search through liked posts). On the second restart, you can make sure Windows Defender is up and running, update it, Do all of the windows updates that are of high importance. Then get rid of whatever other less vital bloatware you want, almost none of the lenovo ones are necessary (YouCam, OneKey, etc.)
Then - I found this to be a huge help - uninstall the preloaded TouchPad driver - then go to the Synaptics Website and install their driver: Drivers | Synaptics It helped make the touchpad a lot easier to use. I'd turn off most of the multitouch gestures like zooming. 2 finger scroll works well so leave that if you want. Again, customize it to your liking, take time to test things out.
As far as graphics, I leave it on (Choose which one is best), it should work fine. Power saver mode automatically underclocks you to 0.77 GHz, I've managed 4+ hours on battery by lowering screen brightness to half in power saver mode, just remember to go into power saver mode advanced settings and change the settings for wireless adapter power saving. If you leave it on maximum power save it will sometimes randomly cut out. You can also open up the Integrated HD control panel (right click desktop) and deactivate the power saving feature that autodims your screen randomly, that pissed me off. I posted how to do that a few pages back, so either search my posts or look through liked posts by clicking at the top of the thread.
For defragging, just type defrag into the start screen, windows utility is efficient.
Also since you'll be plugged in 80% of the time, open Lenovo Energy Management and set your battery to optimized health, sets your battery to max charge to 60% which extends battery life. You can do a full charge before you head to class by flipping it back to Max Charge.
Jobine can help you with the rest, I didn't bother with any overclocking.
Re: Y500 - How do I tell if automatic SSD cache is working?
Welcome To Lenovo Community
We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,
The sole purpose of the mSATA SSD drive is to cache data via the Intel Smart Response Technology.
ExpressCache software is not installed on ThinkPad and ThinkPad Edge systems with mSATA SSD device.
1. Open the Start Menu, click on "All Programs", then click on "Accessories". Right-click on "Command Prompt" and then choose "Run as administrator" from the menu that appears.
2. If a prompt appears for "User Account Control", click on "Yes" to allow the Windows Command Processor to run.
3. Type "eccmd.exe -info" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Look at the end of the command output for one of the following scenarios:
1. "**ERROR** ECCmd Request device is not available"
(This means that ExpressCache is installed, but the mSATA device is not configured correctly. Uninstall ExpressCache from "Programs and Features" control panel, and then refer to the Solution section of this document.)
1. "'eccmd.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
(This means that ExpressCache is not installed. Refer to the Solution section of this document.)
1. "Cache Read Percent : x.xx%" (where x.xx% is some actual percentage)
"Cache Write Percent : x.xx%" (where x.xx& is some actual percentage)
(This means that ExpressCache is installed and working properly. No further action is needed.)
To resolve the issue, first delete the primary partition on the mSATA SSD and then install the ExpressCache software. The ExpressCache installer will automatically create the necessary caching partition on the mSATA SSD.
1. Open the Start Menu, type DiskMgmt.msc, and press Enter to start Disk Management.
2. At the bottom of the Disk Management window, identify the mSATA SSD device. The 16GB mSATA SSD is 14.91GB. The 32GB mSATA SSD is 29.82GB.
3. The mSATA SSD may contain a "Data2" partition with a drive letter such as D: or E:. If so, check for any saved files on the device. If any files exist, move them to the C:\ drive.
4. Delete the Primary Partition on the mSATA SSD by right clicking on it and choose "Delete Volume..." from the menu that appears. Click "Yes" to confirm the action.
5. There should now be at least 14GB of unallocated space on the mSATA SSD.
6. Download ExpressCache from the following link that corresponds to the Windows 7 installation (32bit or 64bit):
• 32bit Windows 7
• 64bit Windows 7
1. Install ExpressCache by double clicking on the setup file downloaded in Step 6 and follow the on-screen instructions. Reboot as prompted.
If you're planning to:
1. Upgrade the 32GB mSATA SSD to 120GB and use the Intel Smart Response Technology to cache data, it will be good as the size is big but it will not really take that much space to cache the data (20Gb or below is already good enough for caching). If you're planning to install the OS on the mSATA SSD, It'll also be good but not as fast as using a 2.5 SATA SSD.
2. Upgrade the 2.5 SATA HDD to a 2.5 SATA SSD and make it as a primary drive, this will improve over all performance especially if you get the OCZ Vertex 4 SATA III 2.5 SSD or similar.as the read/write speed is much faster than the mSATA SSD. Check this review.
Do give this a try and let us know
Hope This Helps
Cheers!!! -

I just bought a used y410p with the 900p screen, i7 4700mq, gt750m. It's decent so far, pretty much what I expected from a budget gaming laptop. I owned anything from Alienware, Sager, Asus and Acer gaming laptops, and this y410p is a great value for the money.
That said, I have one minor issue with the screen. At low to medium brightness, on a dark gray solid background there seems to be an effect I can only describe as an old CRT warming up. The backlight is flickering a bit. Doesn't happen every time though, and the effect disappears on higher brightness or when windows are open, breaking up the solid dark gray background.
Anyone else noticed this? Otherwise I love the y410p. Bought it for $600, 3 months old, perfect shape, so I can't complain.kirkydaturkey likes this. -

Guys whatever you do, don't touch Lenovo Energy Management software "reset battery gauge" it's cooked my battery charging capabilities. I can't charge my notebook anymore, the software has caused a hardware issue. I'm so cross with Lenovo

aybarrap1 said: ↑In what regards? I just use a lightly damp cotton cloth every now and then on the exterior and use monitor wipes for the screen. Aside from that I put nothing else in the same pocket as the laptop in my laptop bag. I am not too concerned about the exterior because I do not lug the laptop around a lot and will not eat or place liquids within 1 foot of it. Since it is raised on a laptop cooling pad spills on the desk are not really an issue. Splashes are about the only thing I would have to worry about.Click to expand...
