I just got my Y410p and love it. I've had no problems outside of one annoying issue. Sometimes the cursor will randomly jump to the bottom left of the screen when I'm clicking on something, and will instead open something on the taskbar. This has happened nearly 10 times in two days. What's the problem, and what should I do? Thanks!

I love my Y410P also. It is FAST, the SSD I put in it makes it lightning quick to boot and use, the sound is light years better than the AM radios they use in other laptops, and the ability to play the latest games after a long day at work makes this laptop twice as useful as my old one. It's also light enough and small enough to use as a road warrior tool, and I do a LOT of traveling for my job.
I also love the 900P screen. It is VERY bright and crisp, even though it is an older technology, but they had to use the older screens which are faster than the new IPS screens for playing games. The other cool thing about this laptop is it IS cool, thermally. and QUIET. I have never noticed the fans, even when playing games. The sound out of the speakers would drown it out even if it was noisy though.
The only things I can really say needs to be improved are:
It needs a Touchscreen. If not, just ship it on Windows 7.
More metal, less plastic, especially where the hinges are
Use the real estate around the screen for screen, not shiny plastic.
Replace the touchpad with the standard double button Thinkpad pad and the standard red nub in the keyboard.
Its seems the new Y40 and Y50 tries to accomplish much of this, but it also seems the 14 inch version is treated like the poor stepchild of the 15 inch version, especially in the graphics department.
All that said, as soon as ASUS upgrades their new Zenbook UX302-LG version with a better Nvidia card, or Razer provides a better screen for their RAZERBLADE 14, I may have to put this one up on craigslist. I like the Zenbook better though, as it's 13 inches rather than 14. I had high hopes for the Dell 11 inch model, but alas, they went with Intel only for the Graphics. If the Yoga had Nvidia, I would have bought that one.
All in all though, for the 725 bucks this cost over the holidays, the Y410P is one of the best values in laptops I have seen in a long time. -
I tried installing that touchscreen driver but it doesn't show Windows 8 anymore and won't install. I want to install it because my cursor sometimes jumps down and left randomly without me even touching it, but it won't let me install the driver.
-
- The Y40 and Y50 will have a touchscreen, This being said, adding a touchscreen will require hinge reinforcement, and also will remove the matte displays. R.I.P.
- I am almost 100% certain that a 15 inch" 16:10 (not 16:9) panel could fit, but it would also make the bezel extremely thin, though i think the reason for the thick bezel is the fact that this laptop is still very small for all the hardware it can pack, especially since it contains two graphics cards (well, it can), a full size CPU, a hard drive, a micro SSD, and a rather roomy 72w/h battery, all while being smaller than any 15 inch laptop and being 5.5 pounds (with SLI) or 4.9 (without).
- Dedicated trackpad buttons would be extremely useful for such a laptop, especially if one wants to use the touchpad for gaming (i know some people who do). However a Trackpoint has no room on a consumer-class laptop, and Lenovo is even pulling away the trackpoint from some of their low-end Thinkpads (look up the Thinkpad 11e).
My personal main gripes with this laptop, hardware-wise, is SLI being promised and not delivered, and poor USB port placement (if you use a Wired mouse you would understand).

EDIT: I discovered it was me. I use two fingers (One to move touchpad, one to left click) and sometimes when I'd tap with my second finger that would happen. I'll try just using one finger to scroll and tap. -

Tried to follow Jobine's advice and roll back to 14.8 wireless drivers, but it seems the lowest version for Win8.1 is 15.10.
Should I update again or keep the 15.10? -

Hi I ordered a y410p on thursday from the french Canadian Lenovo website but the order status is still stuck on "Libérée à la fabrication" (sorry, I can only see it in french), and the package is still not shipped. Why is it taking so long to be shipped?
Also does anyone have a link to a thread that explains how to set up a y410p/y510p when you first recieve it? -
Setting it up is really easy. Follow instructions for windows 8 setup. Done.
-
Remove bloatware and enjoy. -
Ok cool, but what about downgrading the Wireless card driver ? Is it necessary ?

Btw, I just discovered that Lenovo should release the Y40 in may, is it that much better compared to the y410p ? I'm starting to feel concerned because my y410p is still not shipped so I guess I can still cancel my purchase but is it worth it?
I'm just kiddin lol -

Just recently bought the Y410 and was wondering the same if it would be worth the wait for a Z40/Y40. Got the Y410 for 680 out the door (636 without tax) and wondering if the Z40/Y40 will have better specs for the same price.
-
I'll put it like this:
- The y40 will probably be better than the Y410p. but it doesn't matter, if you need a laptop now, buy now, also the Y410p has things the Y40/Z40 can't do.hailgod likes this. -
Good news everyone! The Y410P runs Titanfall just A-OK! I've got it at the native 900p with a mix of high and medium graphics. I'm seeing 30-40FPS during gameplay

Does anyone know how to make window "think" it has got a different monitor? my y410p is 768p and im trying to use steam in home streaming to play dota 2 at 1600x900 on my macbook air.
-
all HIGH, no Anti-aliasing, native 768p, and about 60 frames
I would like to see a solution for this.hailgod likes this. -
i have been trying to look for methods in many forums but no one seems to know how to do it. Hope valve will release a way to make their in home streaming more awesome.

the only other monitor i have is a 1280x768 8 year old dell monitor. If i were to get a new monitor, i might as well just game with that monitor instead of using the streaming. The reason i want to do the streaming is because macbook air's screen is way superior to the 768p y410p. Its higher resolution and the colours are just way nicer.

There's a registry hack you could try that tricks the system into thinking you have more resolution. Launch Regedit and search for Display1_DownScalingSupported and change the value in ALL instances from 0 to 1. Save then reboot. You should now have some higher resolutions available.
Note that using those higher settings will reduce clarity, since your screen is still only 768p. I haven't tried this in Windows 8.1, but it worked in 7 & 8. -
If I buy a y410p now, will I be able to sell it this summer for a reasonable price and then buy a Y40?
How much more money, do you think, will I need to add to the Y410p's selling price in order to buy a Y40 ?
Y410p specs are GT755m with 1TB HDD and 900p screen. -

No one can answer that since the Y40 is not available yet, and we don't know what the pricing will be. As for selling the Y410p, check ebay completed auctions to see what they are selling for.

Ok thanks

I know this is irrelevant
but i have this question for along time now without an answer
I live in a University student housing, and we have a limited internet connection
form what I understand they blocked any P2P connections (therefore i cant download torrents)
so, many games wont work online.(Battlefield 3,4 TitanFall, Loadout, ... etc)
the problem is that some online games work fine ( Counter Strike, Team Fortress, Garry's Mod, ...)
can someone tell me the deference in these game, what make one work and the other not? -
Anyone tried the latest Nvidia Geforce drivers- 334.89 WHQL, i want to know if they safe for the Y410P or will they result in a black screen? Anyone tried it, i really want to know if i can upgrade. Many thanks!
-
mistake, i cant even download it.
-
I installed them last night. It took three attempts via nVidia Experience for them to install. I suggest DLing them directly from nVidia's website and installing manually. Ran a few matches of Titanfall Beta after the install last night, ran fine. I came from the R331 drivers. It may have actually picked up a few FPS.
