Please what version of drivers for WIFI 7260N are you guys using?
I went from 16.5 which was always switching to 11Mb/s speed to 16.10.0.5 which is showing 300Mb/s (correct one). But on both im getting with copying files around 800kbs, on my old e6410 im getting over 1.5mbs.

Sometimes the speed increases to higher value, but its very rarely.

    Can anyone have any ideas?
Using LAN cable is not always possible.

    Im running W7

Ok but are Y410p and Y510p pretty much the same? What OS? I'm on Win 8.1 and I remember when I installed the previous stable driver to the one that has been released it gave me a black screen after the Lenovo and Windows Logo, I could log in or anything. Just a black screen them I was forced to go into safe mode, what a mission. Just a want to confirm if the latest stable drivers worked great? Anyone please

Should I uninstall R331 and all the other Nvidia software, do a restart and then install the latest 334.89 Geforce driver? They apparently give much better performance and better frames compared to 331.xx? Correct me if this is not the case

I just want to avoid a black screen and saving the trouble of having to boot into safe mode.

Driver wise there is a huge difference due to SLI.

Ok but if this y510p has a single GT755m and it worked then the y410p should work with the latest stable driver right? Sorry don't know much about SLI. I just want to the latest drivers installed on my laptop and no black screen, is that possible or should I not update my graphics driver? Thanks

My latest venture... installing the INTEL USB3.0 controller drivers (need to enable unsigned driver mode startup in Win8.1) instead of using the Microsoft ones.

USB3.0 is more stable and my USB3.0 4 port hub doesn't have issues any more.

Idk if anyone even had these problems to begin with though ^_^

Sounds like the difference between Steam and Origin. Maybe, for some reason in EA's infinite Wisdom, Origin uses different ports. You have some googling ahead of you. Try search terms like "Origin blocked by college firewall" or something like that. You're a college kid, so study up!

Yes, the Y410p and Y510p are identical except for the smaller screen. I don't have the second video card installed right now so it is essential the same. I am running Win 8.1 pro currently.

    1. remove battery
    2. unlock a small switch in the battery bay
    3. pull switch on the bottom grate and pull whatever is in the ultra bay out
3.5: if it comes out half way and its stuck, wiggle it side to side and add a reasonable amount of force until it comes out

my dvd was a pain to get out the first time because the plastic guides around the dvd drive (despite being new) were mishaped

My Y410P reached a max temperature of 66 celsius when playing Assassin's Creed II at max settings. Is this good or bad?

That's great! Unless you are talking about surface temps, in that case, that's really bad.

Awesome! I installed a program called Real Temp (Literally the only temperature gauging program I could find without viruses.) It checked the temperatures of all four cores and the highest was 66.

The area around the fan on the left side does get rather hot though, is that normal? It never gets too hot to touch though. I keep the back of the laptop raised up when gaming and nothing clogs up the fan.

those are incredible temps, its like u were in a freezer!
    :)

    yes I think its normal...
mine was burning hot to the touch when playing fro around an hour
    temps were around 85-90 Celsius
( 25+ Celsius room, no rising or cooling pad, Battlefield 4)

    Edit:
    sorry
I just realized that u were talking about the CPU not the GPU!
my comments above is all about GPU.

    and yes 66c is good/normal

Hi, so lenovo has shipped my order and it's going to arrive soon (after 2~3 week wait)
IdeaPad Y410p High-Performance 14" Multimedia Laptop from Lenovo | Lenovo (CA)

(the 779 one, with 1600x900 screen). It has 1tb harddisk, but no mention of 24gig SSD, so I am thinking they have stopped adding those.

Is there a way to see if my laptop has the ngff connector without opening?

I will be buying atleast 120 gig or 250 gig of ssd.
Apart from ngff What options do I have of installing the solidstate drives? and which one would you guys suggest?

PS: dvdrom is optional for me.

If the DVDROM is completely optional for you, i then suggest you caddy the 1TB HDD and buy yourself a 2.5" SSD.

I'm having issues with Nvidia not auto detecting my graphics card in order to download and install the driver for my GT755, it's allaying failing to detect it and it keeps asking me to try again? Is this normal for Win 7 on this computer... I do have flash and adobe flash player installed as well. Is this normal, I have Windows 7 Ultimare installed

im lazy to go to lenovo customer service because the place is far from my city

HDD caddy is place for HDD, so you can put it on the ultrabay slot. so you will have SSD on inside and HDD on ultrabay slot

Use Intel XTU to monitor any CPU throttling, otherwise just ignore it, Event Viewer likes to make a big fuss about everything.

Discounts. I got mine 900p/SSD/i7 for 800$ back in June.

hey jobine, suggestion for caddy and 2.5" ssd? I am thinking of getting a 250 gig one (as it's about CAD40~ difference between 120 and 250.

    Yolo:
typo, its the 879 one (I got it with taxes for 970). BUT since my order is kinda late, they said they will offer a 5% discount once I receive the product...I am scheduled to receive it next thursday too!

Caddy: it's the thing which you put in place of dvdrom. So The suggestion is, remove dvd rom, put in caddy
    http://www.ebay.com/bhp/lenovo-ideapad-hdd-caddy

[To remove dvdrom and insert caddy, you don't need to open laptop]

in that caddy, I put my 1tb 5400rpm.

in place of 1tb, I put the ssd.
[To remove 1tb and put in SSD, you will have to open your laptop]

Anyone play Civ V on the Y410P? I am having MAJOR issues with stability, literally, the game crashes constantly and is giving a whole litany of different errors. Everything from a Renderer Error to various error codes in the event logs that reference the Display Driver or a component of it. I'm at my wits end.

I heard you can't replace HDD with SSD if you don't get a config with SSD already in it because Lenovo takes off a conector or something that is necessary for an SSD to function. Is it true ??
Is an SSD upgrade worth it anyway? I watched several videos on youtube and the HDD config seems plenty fast.

Khaleel, did you ask them for the 5% discount or they were the ones offering it?

No it didn't before as the driver wasnt installed but Nvidia auto detect didn't pick up the card. I had to manually search for it and got it to install with the latest driver out (non beta) and it appears In Device Manager now.

Which model do you have? Mine works just fine- and it's the cheapest one. c:
Are you running it with the integrated graphics or the dedicated card? That would make a huge difference.

I just checked the razer blade specs and the GPU is actually just as performant as the GT755M and the i7 4700MQ is actually better than the blade's CPU. I can't believe it hahaha, the blade costs twice as much as the y410p. I feel so proud right now

Don't the blade have the gtx 765m? Thats like 30% more powerful. The 4702 is used because it has a 10 watt lower tdp than the 4700mq. It makes a huge difference in a notebook of that size. MSI is more of a competition to the razer blade because its also thin. the 17 inch varients are thinner than razer blade pro.

    Hey guys
i installed mavericks on my y410p by creating a partition on the disk. Everything went great but one day my windows just won't boot. I tried recovering from the recovery rive but couldn't. So now my recovery drive is also formatted and i'm stuck with the mavericks install. How do i get windows back? i formatted the windows partition as well.
Do i have no option but to buy windows 8 again?

Whoa whoa, the 765M is far better than the 755M. And the blase boasts better battery life in a thinner chassis.

True, but the GE40 throttles A LOT due to it's poorer cooling system. Hence why i personally do not advise to purchase the GE series from MSI.

Sadly you should have imaged or made a backup of your original Win8, because otherwise it is lost forever, so you will have to re-buy your OS or acquire it somehow ( ;)), and personally i recommend Windows 7.

Also while it is possible to install Mavericks on this laptop, be sure to note that:
    - Your GT 755M might not work, so use the 4600HD to be safe
    - You will need a non-Intel Wireless card.

While GPUBoss is good for showing 3DMark results, it does not always show real game performance. This is a more reliable benchmark comparison, but all benchmarks should be taken with a grain of salt:

    765M vs 760M vs 755M

As seen in the link above, there is a 10-15% performance gap between each card.

Bottom line, if comparing the laptop to the blade, you should factor in:

    - CPU - 4700MQ versus 4702HQ, the latter is has a lower TDP but 5% weaker performance, however you can mod the former to emulate the latter with a BIOS tweak (like i did)
    - GPU - the 765M is without a doubt superior in every aspect
    - Size/weight - 4 pounds 0.8 inches is smaller and lighter than 5 pounds 1.25 inches
    - Battery life - 7/8 hours versus 5/6 hours
    - Included SSD - The blade comes with a SSD as standard, which can factor in 200$ of the cost
    - High-end aluminium body, which has a more "premium" feel
    - Matte versus glossy screen (however this is a very subjective aspect)
    - More USB 3.0 ports
    - Superior Touchpad

This being said, the Y410p has it's advantages over the blade:
    - Can hold two 2.5" drives + NGFF SSD or a DVD/BD drive
    - User-replaceable battery
    - VGA out
    - Better speakers
    - Better keyboard
    - 40% of the cost of the Blade

Well of course the blade is more premium: better build quality, thinner, lighter.
I wanted to compare them perfomance wise and it seems that the y410p is not that far behind. According to your link, the GTX765M gets on average +5 to +10 FPS compared to the GT755M.
You forget to mention that the blade has worst cooling capabilities than the y410p also.
But yeah I'm not gonna lie the blade is a nice piece of technology, like your signature says "I want a nice premium laptop but i'm broke.", if one day I have the money for it I'll probably get one haha

My next laptop won't be one from Razer, and you can count on that. My next laptop will probably be an Alienware or a Dell.

Plus, I'm pretty sure those kind of gaming thin/light laptops are gonna drop in price in the next few years. The Y40 is a pioneer even though we don't know the exact prices yet.
