I am considering getting the Lenovo Y410p, however people are saying that the new Y40 might be better. Will the current Nvidia GeForce GT 755M be just as good as the Radeon R9 270M in the Y40?

It should be better than a r9 270m

R9 270M looks like a 7870M rebrand, which is 15% weaker than the 755M and not as overclock-friendly.

Anyways, i'll be going back to Linux on my Y410p tonight. Wish me luck.

Is the impending release of the Y40/Y50 series the end of the line for the Y410p/Y510p series, or do you think Lenovo will keep these models around a while longer?

When the Y510p/Y410p series came out, they did keep the y500/y400 series around for a little while. Don't expect more than a month, though.

Ful Dean Apple Backpack by Ful http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007RNI0NW/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_4xnitb04VHG4C

I bought mine from Ross for 24.99 though, great backpack, provides a lot of padding for the laptop, and it's weight dispersion is good since I bike with it

Lots of people like the Crucial SSD's, but personally I would go with a Samsung Evo. Thats just from experience, I know that both are reputable companies and everything but the evo will definitely work in your y410 with no problems.

Get the crucial, i saw the 840 fail on someone. 55$ is a nice saving too, and chances are you won't notice the difference.

righto ordered the 240 crucial. Now being the lazy idiot that I am, I lost the link to a reliable Harddisk caddy for y410p which was availible. Could you gents be kind enough to post it?
There are plenty of sellers on ebay, but I want someone who has been used by this community. I don't want to order and get stuck with a ty caddy.

    Which distro did you install?

Just put in the Crucial SSD someone mentioned earlier (purchased it earlier) and OC'd my 755m a little bit with Afterburner/Inspector.

plays Titanfall on almost all High, some low, some medium at 1080p and BF4 at almost all high at 1080p. Freakin' love it. Though temps hit around 90 even with a Cooler Master X-Slim cooling pad so may just stick to the normal clocks and let GPU Boost do it's work.

Anyone else have recommendations on OC'ing or benchmarks with temps?

Firstly, let me apologize for how this post will sound. Haha!

Here is Africa, most sellers don't even know exactly what they are selling, they just know 'basic' specifications and how much they want to sel their computers. Lol. :p

Anyways, I'm thinking of buying a Y410p tomorrow. I called the seller to read out the model for me, what's written on the box and what he could read out were theses two things "20216" and "YB04011963". Which EXACT model of Y410p do you think he has? Actually, I am ready to buy any model :p as his price is reasonable. ($820), If i was to ship one myself from the US, it would cost ALOT more than that. I'm just very curious to know the 'EXACT' model he has/specs.

Here is the original online advert - Lenovo Y410p 8GB + 1TB + NVIDIA GT755 For sale in Accra - Free Classifieds in Ghana 13 Mar 11:14 am
DO NOT MIND THE GT 750M in the description, i have confirmed and double checked with him and it's a GT 755M. :D

Could it be this??? http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Lenovo-...7-8GB-Ram-1TB-Laptop-Dusk-Black-/310801454409 :D

    THANKS GUYS! :)

Ok just got my y410p awhile ago, plugged in a flash drive with Portable HWInfo and generated a report (attached)

    Question:

    1. HWInfo window shows the RAM running at 1.35v (wasn't able to get screenshots, maybe later) but the htm report file doesn't really state it specifically. Thoughts?

    2. If I include another RAM, would I encounter any problems with regards to the currently installed one?
RAM that I want to add:
    CT51264BF160B - 4GB, 204-pin SODIMM , DDR3 PC3-12800 from Crucial.com

    EDIT:
Just realized it, the RAM I have is 800mhz?

    EDIT2:
Or is it double as answered here?
    http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1698332/1600mhz-ram-showing-800mhz-ram-cpu-crucial-ballistix-sport.html

It's actually quite straight forward with the Intel XTU program, quite a few people in this thread have done it. I think everyone has been stable at -80 millivolt, and some up to -120 mV.

800 series Clevos are out, Y40 incoming in 3...2...1...

This being said, Unclewebb's working on Throttlestop 7, which will allow you to do even more tweaking like CPU frequency tweaks, all without the modded BIOS.

-80mV is rock stable and lowers temps by around 5°C.

First time posting here on NBR. First off i would to thank those who have kept up with this thread for so long. Especially Jobine. I've found tons of valuable info on here and will continue to use this as a primary source of intel. (No pun). I'm eagerly awaiting a 128gb m.2 NGFF to arrive any minute now. Does anyone have any experience or words of wisdom right off the bat to pass along? I'll primarily be using it for all my steam gaming. Maybe OS as well.

Lastly seriously thanks again for everyone's past posts. HUUUUUUUUGE Helps. Keep on keeping on.

Lol. I'm actually a Nigerian too! Study in GH. :) But anyways! Doesn't matter no more! I got this bad boy already i7, 1TB, 755M, 8GB, 720p, N2230, Win 8.1.

    I have 2 questions.
    1. How to stop the mouse from freezing occasionally? Some driver update?
    2. Whats the fix to WiFi dropping? I think i noticed that already... v15.10 driver is wat i have

Ok so i havn't found much on installing one of these bad boys. I know I totally should have gone for the 500 gb 2.5" SSD but this will get me by for now while i pay off the laptop.

So i currently have the 28gb m.2 NGFF that came with the laptop which has all of this in it.
    Screenshot (6).png

Can i just move all of these folders to my C: drive and then install my new 128gb m.2 NGFF SSD and then move all of those folders to the new 128gb m.2 NGFF SSD with no issues? Seems too easy...

The drivers are installed in your HDD. Thats just a partition. Just remove your m.2 ngff ssd and throw the new one in.

Don't touch those files! The "D:" drive is just a partition on your 1TB HDD. Those are the Lenovo supplied drivers, as well as your factory backup image.

To install, first remove "Express Cache" software. Then power down, remove all power, and swap out the drives. There's a MyDigitalSSD rep that floats around these forums. He sometimes recommends installing the included cacheing SW and running it in maximized mode.
If you want to use the new SSD for only Steam gaming, then boot back into windows, go into disk management, and format and create a partition on the new drive.

Personally I find the 5400 RPM drive to be maddening slow. I can absolutely tell when there's been an error and the cache has been flushed. Win8 seems to take FOREVER to boot. If you want to install your OS on the SSD, you'll need to "acquire" an OEM copy of Win 8 (your Win8 key is stored in EFI). You may be able to buy a backup copy from Lenovo, or find a copy floating on the internet. You could also get SSD migration SW and migrate your existing install to the SSD. But, I'm not sure how many Steam games + OS would fit on a 128GB drive.

I was holding out for a ~256GB M.2 drive, but with Titanfall alone requiring 48GB of storage, I'm not sure even that will be large enough for my needs!

That's what I need! How do I go about accessing this EFI if I may ask?
    screenshot.1.jpg

I have replaced my HDD with an Intel 335 240gb SSD, installed the OS (Win7 64bit) then installed the following games:

    Guild Wars 2
    Mass Effect 3
    Diablo 3
    Titanfall

I still have 91gb of free space.

I'm just waiting to buy a caddy, as my previous one is 12.7mm; too thick.

Thanks for the detailed response Jason!! Ok bare with me as this is where my lack of expertise really kicks in. You said to not touch the drivers on my D: drive but if i pulled out the equipped 28gb m.2 SSD that had the drivers on it what will that do to my computer now? I did copy the drivers folder to an external drive and moved the drivers folder to the new 128gb m.2 drive G: but it still shows drive D: on my computer. How can i get my computer to recognize the new drive and more importantly the drivers folder? Screenshot (8).png

The SSD does not have your drivers!!! Its a partition of your 1tb hard drive.
Dont need to worry about taking out the 24gb cache ssd.

Awesome then i won't worry about it. So far everything is looking good but now i'm getting this.

    Screenshot (9).jpg

I would assume because i'm not using Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) and instead am using HybriDisk

    Screenshot (10).png

    Would this be correct?
