Trust me, it's better this way. My old acer, dat was the issue, heat! And fan only ran at 50% of its possible speed. We complained to acer and after about 6 months or so (for me at least) they finally released an app that ramps up the fan to 100%. Cool! I had my laptop back yh? For 2 weeks. Then! Fan started misbehaving, going to full speed randomly and not responding when u actually want it at full speed. Dats the reason I bought Y410p a week ago. Sold the acer that same day.

Which is why I prefer the y400, and that's not mentioning the vastly larger capacity of mSATA drives.

    I wonder if we'll see small 42mm M.2 drives reach a capacity of 1TB.

yo, I got my 240gig crucial ssd! (the caddy will come in 2 weeks - but i have a case thing which allows the laptop harddisks to be connected via usb)

    Data transfer:
current y410p will be returned because it's backlight is not working, but I have installed programs, made settings etc

New y410p has already been shipped by lenovo. it's due to arrive sometime next week.

Question: Can I clone the installation of current y410p in the ssd, and pop the ssd into the new y410p ? (or will it cause problems because windows cdkey is embedded in bios?)

any ideas/suggestions? plus, what program do you guys suggest for copying/cloning the windows (of either the old or the new y410p)

Notes: the 'current' y410p's data is less than 150gb , so if I clone, data won't exceed the size of the ssd.

    I agree with Jason335.
I've always used the Dust Removal Feature first, next use a compressed air can, and then use the dust removal feature one last time.

I wonder if anybody can confirm this for me with Windows 8.1 Update 1. Modern Apps still running in processes though not consuming CPU but still using up Memory after closing out completely.
    Capture.PNG
I thought it was really nice how much simpler it is for newcomers to exit out of Modern Apps by integrating it into the taskbar and such, but what's the deal with this now where they don't even close out properly.

    Use DriveImage XML. :)

Seems about the same here. I'm on Windows 8.1 tho. I upgraded to Update on one my old laptop, no issues. But a friend of mine says his fifa doesn't work since he installed Windows 8.1 Update 1. Dats not a chance I'm willing to take. Lol.

I was just talking with some other people on another forum and they confirmed what you said. I find it interesting that this never occurred with me until Win8.1.1, but I guess it's no big deal since it would have been more normal for me to observe the behavior before the update haha oh well.

If I wanted to pull the optical drive and just have a blank in there, what is the recomendation?

Is there an actual travel blank bezel availibe, or could I use something like a SSD caddy without the drive?

From the sound of it, Lenovo's abandoned the UltraBay for this model, so going to pull it since I will never use the optical.

I'd get a second fan, but don't think they sell them?

Oh I don't care about temps, I just want it to hover a few mm off my desk. At least I assume that's how it works.

If i did pop an SSD caddy in there with no drive, would it cause any problems? My guess would be no, but not sure.

Go buy a delta 7k rpm fan and see it that works. Power consumption might be more than your gt 755m+4700mq on full load though.

Eset is the best in terms of using less System Resources. Eset is a Gamer's choice. :D

    ===========================================================================================

HEY GUYS! I'm thinking of pairing my Y410p (1366x768) with a 22" FULL HD 1080p display. A TV actually (I will use as TV 5% of times and laptop secondary screen 95% hehe). I already have a 32" which is too big. And I will be able to go back to college with a 22" :D Easier of course. :)

I found this for $120 US Dollars.

with an i7 and a samsung 840 pro. I dont give a damn about system resources.
Buy a normal hd monitor instead. U will just be wasting your money and let it scale weirdly.
My tv is a 1360x768 one and it works nicely. You should try to find one with either that or a 1366x768 resolution.

ehh I kind of agree with hailgod but just because I don't think it's worth the money. As far as scaling though I don't think it's a problem. I've done a really similar setup like that before and I liked it for my uses.

good question hah. I think it could cause problems.
If it were me, I'd just transfer everything that's important on to the SSD, then transfer it on to the new Y410p HDD when it arrives, THEN finally clone it. I'd also take screen captures of certain settings on things that you'll need to change and maybe even type up some documents about changes you'll have to make to the new computer (like list of programs to install/uninstall/etc) A lot of time and steps but I always choose that route when I'm not sure if something will work lol.

Lol. I don't give a damn about money too, I have lots of it. Lol.
You are saying I should ditch buying a 22 inch 1080p TV (I will use HDMI) for $120 and instead buy a regular 19 inch 720p monitor (connect via vga) for $100. This doesn't sound right. Why?! I think I prefer 1080p :D

It's hot mostly here in africa. During the day, around 45 to 50. Early hours/night time 37 to 45 thereabout.

Firstly, even if you have all the money in the world, doesn't mean you should spend extravagantly. You still need best deal for ur money. You stay rich by not spending money ( according to Tyrese in Fast and Furious 6 :p ).

Secondly, 'Sarcasm', heard of it? :D

I idle around 40-50 degrees for both cpu and gpu.
A fhd 1080p monitor is useless when you can only use it on 1366x768.

oh, nvm, i was mistaken and thought u need to have all monitors on the same resolution.
Also, it has been a few days since i OCed my 755m +135 core and +300 memory. Seems like the highest my gpu has ever reached while playing dota 2/cs:go is 80 degrees. My ambient temp is around 28 degrees.

Of course u can use the resolution at 1080p. Why would I buy a 1080p display if I'm going to use it at 720p. Like What!? LOL. I thought I mentioned that I had a 1080p 32 inches already but needed something I can take back to college with me.

ANYWAYS! I have got my 22" FULL HD TV+MONITOR! :D For $120, it has just about everything, AV/ HDMI / VGA / Antenna / USB Port. Satisfied. :)

Well, i can game with my Y410p in 22 inches (FULL HD) when i'm home. Yet i have a somewhat 'Portable' computer with great battery life (I get around 7 hrs on power saver), thanks to the smaller 14 inch screen - when i'm on the move. I feel like I trolled the Universe. :p

Since the y400 forum is long dead I'll just put this here. I might make this a series to compare it's performance to the 750/755M in the y410p.

Also check out this game, it's shaping up to be pretty awesome. TheCrankyOldGamer on YouTube covers it pretty well. My video is just showing off performance.

Still wonder how come on game-debate GT 755M has score of 7/10 and 750M and 740M scores 6/10. I thought they were practically the same card.

    ddr3 gt 750m = gt 740m.

I've also heard that unlike the 650M (y400) the 750/755M ultrabay for the y510p cannot be modded to work in the y410p. I'm not sure how accurate that statement is however.

If you overclock those twin 650's they will perform on a GTX 770M/860M level. Impressive for a 14 inch sub 6 pound laptop that's a year and a half old. The only bad thing about the Y400 was the battery life and display. But i recommend you retrofit the Y40's display once it comes out.

But hey, 650M SLI will max out anything at 1366x768.

Oh they're over clocked. Moderately, but still overclocked. Take a look at the video, my Core/Memory clock speeds are 1000/2400 compared to the stock 790/2000. It need be I'll try to push them a bit more, but I don't need to at the moment. Also I'm using the original 120W power adapter, so as you see the 170W adapter isn't really needed for the y400.

*Edit* Do you really think the y40 screen will be compatible with the y400? Because if it is I'm definitely snagging one.

Btw guys, i'm pretty sure i don't have an SSD in here. But this thing shutsdown and powers up pretty darn fast! :D

Also, someone try this... Unplug ur charger from the computer, now run a finger across, from ur left speaker to the right speaker. Plug in the charger and try the same thing again. What causes that?! LoL.

LOL yeah guess he likes living on the edge. :p

My Y500 pulls up to 130W while gaming and 140-150W during stress testing, measured at wall using a Kill A Watt. Goes even higher when I overvolt my GPU's (I could max out the 170W brick if I wanted to :D) but I just have my 24/7 GPU OC on stock Vcore and ThrottleStop for CPU.

If you want an accurate real-world measurement as opposed to a guesstimate or theoretical number from software you'll need a power meter. They're pretty cheap and useful around the house. I got my Kill A Watt for like $5 on sale.

Anyone have trouble with Google Chrome and Chromecast crashing the intel 4600 display adapter? Seems you cant use the NVIDIA adapter to run Chrome either. I had a hard time coming to terms with Windows 8.1 so I did a clean install of Windows 7. I have the same problem with both 8.1 and 7.
