Gaming during the day, my temps go up to 90 degrees. Because in this part of the world, it's always super hot. Plus! I stay in a college hostel, so yh! But Early hours, night time. And of course depending on the game... Around 70 degrees i think.

    Guys,

Im on survey to buy this laptop, recently i read about battery leakage eventhough it already shutdown. Does the problem still happen?

How long the battery life when we use it at maximum load, i.e play HD game..

normal usage is about 4-5 hours before battery is out.

    thanks.

Best SSDs For The Money: March 2014 My personal opinion is that 120GB is too small for a boot drive.

Edit: If you're stuck on a 128GB drive, then my vote is for the MyDigitalSSD M.2 SSD.. With the M.2 drive you get to keep your 1TB HDD and your optical drive.

Yes, if you Shutdown the system there is battery leakage, if you just put the system to sleep there is MUCH less leakage. You won't be gaming on battery. The nVidia GT750/755 auto downclocks itself on battery power. Besides, with the CPU and GPU running full it's just too much load on the battery. If would drain it VERY quickly.

On battery and using intel hd 4600 (i forced it to use integrated since nvidia is trottled), I get about just over an hour of battery life playing dota 2.
Definitely not for gaming on the go.

Shut off 2 CPU cores and lower system TDP to increase gaming time on the battery.

47W quad core will munch up the battery real quick, fortunately if you have the modded BIOS you can get a 15W dual core :)

UncleWebb's ThrottleStop 7 will have support for adjusting CPU cores and TDP without the modded BIOS.

Thats a good idea. I'm not going to do it though. I'm rarely ever unplugged. Today was an exception as my sister was using the plug and i can't be bothered rewiring the thing.

Even if your laptop is plugged 24/7 I advise to lower the clocks to 3.2ghz and the TDP to 37W (4702MQ), you'll run much cooler without losing any significant performance.

Then there's no downside to shutting off cores or even clocks then, and your temps will be lower.

After 1 hour of gaming on my 15W dual Core 2.6ghz 4700MQ my CPU temps never went over 65°C!

(your results may vary, also some games might have a HUGE fps drop when playing with only 2 cores.)

wow thats quite insane. I will give it a try later. Dual cores should run just fine for dota 2, Especially since its 2.6ghz.

Is it throttlestop 7 or 6.0? google only shows me throttlestop 6.0.
Also, can you give me a simple guide on how to disable cores and set tdp? The guide is so long!

I would stay away from the kingston budget SSDs for now. They currently use some asynchronous flash, which can be unreliable in read and write speeds. It also results in shorter lifespan.

The crucial m500, kingston hyperX 3k, samsung 840 evo, and adata SX900/XPG will be much better.

Been trying to install Ubuntu v14.04 b2 all day. Can't do it. It doesn't give option to install along side Windows 8 as v13 does. Also. If I'm gonna use 'Something else' option. Do I need new partition or unpartitioned space (free space). How much space? 20GB? 30GB? And I need to create swap? /home? root? Etc?

Do any of you have the y410p with Broadcom BCM43142 as their wireless network adapter?

The reason I ask is because of two things:
    1. Whenever I turn on my laptop (after 8hrs or more being turned off), the wireless network connection bugs out. It won't connect to my wifi because it can't see it, or other wifi APs. Turning the adapter off/on doesn't help. I need to restart again just to make it work.
    2. I remember that I had bluetooth when I had Win8 as my OS before. The drivers that I initially had wasn't compatible with Win7, so I downloaded the h0wg01ww driver. Other drivers for the adapter that say wifi/bluetooth doesn't install.

If it's because I have Win7 installed, then I'm screwed. Though I have nothing against Win8 (I actually tried a friends Win8 laptop, needless to say I was tempted to reformat) it'd take me the whole day in the weekend to sort this out. If the license for Win8 is in the BIOS then I can just borrow my friend's Win8 installation disk, right?

I have a graphics card issue. Well, a FPS issue. With Energy Management on High Performance, and processor state minimum 5 maximum 99% I get 40 FPS on Extreme with max settings on everything except that Direct X id disabled. Game Debate says I should be getting 59, and I assume that's with Direct X enabled. I get around 55 FPS with everything on lowest settings. That is HORRIBLE. I should be getting 112. I have changed no settings in the graphics card menu. Obviously something is wrong. Any and all tips are GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

Whats your battery setting under LEM? Turns out if you are running 60% battery charge mode you need to make sure the batterys charge is under 60% to get full FPS.

The key that comes with the laptop, providing you extracted it somehow, only works with Windows 8 64 bit non-pro. (not 8.1)

Is the issue with one game or with all games? If its just one game/benchmark running slow i recommend reinstalling it.

Also make sure the laptop is plugged to use the 755M to its full potential. Also check your optimus settings to make sure you are using the 755M in the first place.

Will disabling UEFI and enabling Legacy boot let me install Ubuntu alongside Windows 8.1? And not disturb my Windows in anyway? Because now when I try to boot ubuntu installer, it doesn't give first option of install alongside Windows. Only Erase disc and something else option it gives. I want option that says install alongside Windows 8. Thanks

I tested Batman Origins and got 93 FPS on lowest settings...I'm supposed to get 73. So my laptop is actually OVER-performing, at least normally. So it must just be the game like you said. I'm backing up the files, then I'll re-install it. Thanks for your help, and I'll let you know how it comes out.

It took me an hour to get it working properly, (I backed up the files and somehow that fixed it without even having to re-install it) and another two hours to fix the fact that it started crashing as soon as the FPS was fixed. I'm not good with computers, but I'm good at persevering!

Just save yourself the trouble, wipe windows, go full legacy, reinstall windows in legacy mode then install ubuntu.

If I'm not answering its usually because I'm not too sure about the subject, so if you want me to rush an answer here's a rushed answer.

Thanks mate. Already went ahead to figure it out myself. Set Legacy and I installed Ubuntu smoothly. Time to boot into Windows, it gave error. As I stated to panic, I went back to change it to UEFI. And it booted up. :D
Ur rushed answer is correct anyways.

What intel display driver is everyone using? I keep having trouble with Chrome causing my intel display driver to crash. When I run the update utility on intel's website it says this
Product Detected Intel® HD Graphics 4600
    Current Driver Installed 10.18.10.3277
    Newer Driver Available: (10.18.10.3496)
    File Size: 140 MB

But when I download it, and try to install, it says system not supported...

You need to use the driver from the Lenovo support site. I got the same message when I tried to install the newest driver from the Intel site. I am using the same version you have installed.

    Hey Guys,

I recently ordered a lenovo y410p. I've been shopping around for a good cooling pad that I can use with it. Since, you guys already have the laptop and know how vents are placed, I figure you might have something that works well already or can at least make a recommendation for me. I hope to be playing games like just cause 2, sleeping dogs etc... on it, and using it for university work. I bought the DeepCool Multi Core X6 Notebook Cooler at canada computers, but I am not sure how well it will work. I can always return it, which I am planning to do.

    Any suggestions are welcome,

    Thanks!

I have noticed little difference in the cooling effect as well. I am sure it makes some difference but nothing to make worth mentioning. To me having the cooling fan hooked up is more of an annoyance than anything due to the protruding cable. The main purpose of my cooler is to angle my keyboard so I can type more comfortably.

Just prop up the back of the laptop and make sure all vents are unobstructed. I use a drink coaster under the back of each of the rear feet.

i use coolers primarily for ventilation not cooling ...
so i guess "propping up" is enough.

Oh ok. Would someone be able to tell me how vents are positioned on the laptop, and maybe upload a few high res pictures?

I know that someone posted pictures in this thread already but when I click, it leads me to a blank page, or it shows me super blurred image.
