It should only involve typing in a key and windows should automatically upgrade without too much of a hassle so I don't see why not.

Me too, my laptop always sits on my coolers but my cooler is never on. Typing is easier too.
Same opinion here. Legit + Legit = No issues.

I ordered a y410p after my acer died .. I got massive discount due to my works EPP with lenovo (my work uses something called Workperks which partners with other companies to build a large database of discounts). Well now I've fell into the shipping blackhole that Lenovo is so well known for it seems. I got the it shipped email on Monday (one week after I ordered it) ... and it still hasnt left the warehouse yet per Lenovo, something about the pallet mine is on not being full and it can take 2-3 days for this happen... and that'll take another day for the tracking to update. It also went from Released to Manufacturing directly to Shipped. Anyone had this happen before?
-
Yes! You need it to get the update, coming very soon (weeks) that brings back the start menu & does other things making non-touchscreen operation easier. Saw that this was announced today at a MS conference.
-
He can upgrade 8 to 8.1 (non-pro) for free, there is not point wasting a good license.
-
Ditto here as well. I live in a tropical region so I put my air conditioner on 20degC and run the laptop. No overheating so far. The only thing appears to be my wireless or my router. One of them is misbehaving -
I agree. Lafiaus, get the license key and sell it. Make a few bucks.
-
Functionality differences btw Win 8.1 and 8.1 Pro? I have regular one, not pro. The only thing I noticed is that I can't access 'gedit'.
Is it same on Pro? Or is it all in my head?!
Sent from my Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) using Tapatalk Pro -
Gedit is a linux program, not a windows one. Also notepad++ is lightyears better than Gedit anyways, even on Linux i advise running NP++ under Wine.

Stanley, I thought you (and others) might appreciate this; I have a Y410p with a GT755M and I just got it working in SLI using the GT755M Y510p ultrabay card here: Y510P Removable Graphics GT755M5 | Lenovo | (US)
Best part - the GT755M version is on sale for only $99!
The only reason why the physical dimensions were off is because of the bezel. I dremeled the bezel down to get it to fit, and ordered the module frame from Lenovo parts on the phone for the Y400 (Part# 90201962) that allows it to lock into the ultrabay port. This part cost me $35, and it's mechanically compatible with the Y410p. I havent gotten this yet but the card itself is working fine, just dont want it to get pulled out while the laptop is powered on.
As far as I can tell I'm the only one to report in with details of a working Y410p GT755M SLI setup without any BIOS mods, so sharing information to help others. For $99 it's really a no-brainer as long as you're okay with putting in some work on the bezel. You could also purchase a bezel separately like from this ebay listing: 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for Lenovo IdeaPad Y400N Y410N Y410P with Bezel | eBay
Hope this helps others out there! Let me know if there are any pictures or steps that I can share.Stanley08, LanceAvion and Cristao like this. -
I've been saying such a thing was possible for months. I did the same thing with my y400 (I used a GN36 y500 ultrabay).
-
It's illegal to sell licenses you get from DreamSpark.
-
Are u in the US? I'm in Africa, will Lenovo ship here? Dats the thing. Btw you did what to the bezels? In plain English. Lol
Sent from my Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) using Tapatalk Pro -
You may need a service like Borderlinx, Bongo or Shipito; I don't think Lenovo US will ship internationally. A dremel is a handheld rotary cutting and sanding tool - I used it to remove excess plastic since the Y510p bezel (which is what comes with the GPU) is larger.
-
There were some issues with the 750M variant, but for $100 I was willing to take the risk on the 755M since no one else had reported anything.
-
Hmmm, wonder if the GT755m add-on card will work with my GT750m.
-
Not without changing the device ID via BIOS flashing
-
Nope.

Boot into Linux and look at the size of the mounted disks, compare to that list...Stanley08 likes this.

Since it worked for you with the 755M, it should stand to reason that 410p models with the 750M should work with the following right?
Y 15'' Removable Graphics GT750M5 | Lenovo | (US)
The price difference between this and the 755M ultrabay is just unfair. -
Is this laptop still worth getting? I mean I already ordered it and it's on its way, but somehow I don't feel like I'll love it. Biggest things bugging me are the top screen bezel (that thing is HUGE) and the thickness of the laptop.
So tell me, is it that bad? -
I personally love mine, great value for money. Only thing that annoys me is the bezel that scratches and smudges easily, I just don't use it in direct light so I don't see that. For a machine with these specs, the thickness is not bad. Only thing is that its heavy
-
i have a weird sleeping pattern so i end up gaming at night most of the time. Futhermore, i don't turn on many lights so i don't even notice the bezels.
-
Not really, there are better choices out there now that 800M Maxwell is out. You have to realise this laptop is almost a year old now.
HP Envy 15T with 850M is by FAR the best contender in the 800$ range now. Full HD, and 850M is just underclocked 860m. While it's a tad bigger than the Y410p it has the same weight and it's slimmer at the front. The only downside of the HP is that it runs pretty hot/loud and lacks dvd/drive. -
Where did you find the hp envy 15t with 850m? All i see is 740ms
-
This are the requirements of watch dogs, where can i find the requiremts for laptops? Do you think it laptop can handle this game?

Huh wierd, i swear they had them, seems they took em off.
Fyi:
840m = 750M DDR3
850M = Underclocked 860M (765M performance)
860M = Similar performance to 770M -
Yes. Iris = GT 730M.
Also the 4700MQ blows away the Q8400 and playing ay 720p doesn't look too bad on a 14 inch screen. -
840m should be much more powerful than the 750m comparing 384 maxwell cores vs 384 kepler cores.
-
There are both Kepler and Maxwell editions of the 840 IIRC.
-
More ppi perhaps.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) using Tapatalk Pro -
You can play games at the laptop's resolution of 900p, but you will have to lower the settings a bit. Overclocking the GPU can mitigate this though.
-
720p at 14" is the about the same ppi as 1440p at 27". There shouldn't be problems.
-
and 1080p at 21", which is the resolution of my desktop.
Thing is i usually have my laptop's screen closer to the eyes than i have my desktop's. -
To people who are following the Y410p 755M SLI option, see my post in the SLI thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/736305-y410p-sli-purchase-4.html#post9616667
Now with benchmarks! -
Then maybe this buy was a mistake then. I saw it on Lenovo's website and it looked like a definite steal. I can probably OC the 755M to push for 760M power or slightly under (384 vs. 768 is a huge difference).
I guess what I really liked was how much of a work station machine this could be (portable and powerful), the form factor is really nice and the weight isn't so bad either (4.9 lbs?).
Either way, I already bought it and I'm probably gonna stick with it and tinker with it. Maybe do a Samsung 840 EVO SSD and 16g's of RAM. This baby's sticking with me for years. -
Hey Jobine/to anyone who knows,
What's the best way to go about undervolting the 4700mq to the 4702mq? Or just in general, can I see a picture of your XTU settings? -
You guys solved the WiFi dropping issue with what driver? Please provide a link to the driver, i think i am experiencing the WiFi drop issue. Thanks!
-
In XTU set the dynamic CPU voltage offset to - 80mV and preferably the processor cache voltage offset to -50mV. You can push the undervolting further, but since not all chips are made the same results may vary. The numbers i pointed out seem to be a good baseline for all Y410p's, and won't compromise stability while reducing max load temps.
-
If you're going the SSD route invest 10$ into a caddy for the hard drive. Place the HDD in the caddy and the SSD in your system's main bay.
-
Thanks man. Works well, got temps reduced by around 7 on BF4 even with an OC on the GPU too
. Gotta love this laptop.
-
You can probably hit even lower temps if you mess with the voltages more. Worse that can happen is a BSOD, if that occurs just reboot and retry. I've found my own sweetspot to be around -90mV, however others have reported -110mV. It's really random. -80mV is just a failsafe baseline. Same goes for the cache undervolting.
Also if you have the modded BIOS v1.0x you can overclock the CPU to 3.6ghz on it's first core, very useful if you run emulation and simulation software, however be sure to undervolt if you overclock, as you will need the extra thermal headroom. -
Yeah, I was looking around at some of your posts on undervolting as well as your old thread and saw that too. I'm able to hit 100, I tried 110 and it blue screened.
Have you tried OC'ing your CPU? I feel like it wouldn't be worth it, as the most intensive thing I do is simulation in EE. -
I bought my y410p with the 1 TB hard drive without the 24gb ssd addon. Can I still purchase the m.2 slot or does my hard drive does not automatically come with that?
Or is it better to just purchase a full SSD and use that as main hard drive while replacing the dvd drive with 1TB hard drive + caddy.
Is it worth buying ssd for y410p? Any significant performance and what's making it why not for the y410p? -
Some Tech Noob Notebook Consultant
The m.2 slot is a completely different slot than the sata hard drive. Open up the back and see if you have the socket. It's a relatively small slot; google up m.2 if you don't know what it looks like. If you have the slot, you can buy a m.2 ssd and put it in there. If not, you'll have to get a SATA SSD and put it where your hard drive is or get a caddy.
Replacing your hard drive with a SSD will greately improve overall performance and snappiness. Sata hard drives are faster than the current m.2 drives, but the difference won't be that noticeable in day to day usage. Load up windows onto the SSD and experience boot times that are often under 15 seconds(cold boot, windows 7) -
The slot is there for everyone. What you need to look for is the connector.
-
You can OC the cpu but it's really not recommended. The performance you will get will be negligible (~5%) and the strain on your cooling system is not welcome.
If i were you i'd get the 128GB M.2 SSD, it allows you to keep your HDD and your DVD drive too. -
Undervolting can reduce temps?
