I just got mine yesterday, and I'm super excited!
The build quality is far better than I had assumed, although this is probably because I'm coming over from a 6 year old Acer.

I had a question regarding the touchpad. When I use two fingers to scroll, if the fingers reach the edge of the screen it scrolls infinitely until I lift my fingers. It's really irritating when I'm browsing through long websites, post-wise. Can I disable this? I'm using Synaptics drivers.
The touchpad's pretty solid otherwise. Really happy with the 799 I spent for this!

In your taskbar right click the touchpad icon, select clickpad properties, select device settings, click on "two finger scrolling" (don't uncheck it), then click the gear (settings) icon that appears, then uncheck "Enable Inertia".

There's other settings you can tweak in there as well. Experiment!

I didn't want to purchase online and wait for the compound to arrive so I just borrowed a friend's AS5. Opened up my y410p earlier today and applied AS5 after cleaning off the stock thermal compound which was smeared all over the chips. GPU idle temps went from the mid 50 degrees (C) to mid 30's-40's and on full load (playing CSGO) from high 90's (95-97) down to 78-82. Quite happy with the results, hopefully I can run games with no problem now. :)

Woah, I need to repaste. My GPU temps are already lower than your post repaste temperatures, so I might just end up with a mini fridge haha

Try stuffing some dust bunnies into the vents and fans. That'll get your temperatures up. :p

I went through all the settings.. I do love experimenting!
I can't find an inertia option anywhere though. I looked everywhere!

Should I install another driver? If said driver exists, will it have gestures from the sides (left = switch app, right = charms) as well as reverse scrolling which, unlike MEBRU, I seem to love!

edit - I'm running Synaptics btw, I forgot to mention it.

edit 2 - Is One key recovery really useful? I'm tempted to just wipe out the 22gb partition and add it to my C drive.
Related question, should I just keep C as my only partition or is it better/safer to have an extra partition?

Last question: I think my laptop came with 8gb SSD but it doesn't show up on My Computer. Should it? How do I know it's there? I've never used an SSD drive before.

The SSD is set up from factory to act as a cache, meaning that it doesn't show up in My Computer at all. Intel's Rapid Storage technology (I think) basically stores small parts of programs in that SSD, and that allows commonly used programs to launch almost as fast as if you used a pure SSD. It also allows for insane boot times. I have the 24GB, and I have had 4 second BIOS times.

    ExpressCache not SRT.

8GB is the hybrid drive. 24GB is the separate M.2 SSD. Only the latter requires the ExpressCache software installed to function as a cache.

Lol. Yea, I'm a Lenovo partner service tech, and boy do they love to pile on that thermal paste! To be fair, though, I see the same nonsense from Dell and others. It's even worse when they use one of those thermal pads that turns rock hard over time. Those are a PITA to clean off!

    Hi Ember
I tried to replace my y410p, but it not work. I think the LCD is not compatible.
It would be helpful if you could give me the LCD model no. ?

    >_>, I think permanent damage has already occurred on the GPU. Happened before I sent it to replace the motherboard. And now, even though I'm getting acceptable temperatures it likes to bug up.

Yeah and your laptop model number? I'm also interested in doing a swap but my model number is different from those found on laptopscreen.

I've gone crazy trying to get to the bottom of this: when I connect headphones (I've tried multiple headphones) to the audio jack I get sound coming from both the laptop's speakers and the headphones simultaneously. It was working correctly before i.e. sound only came from the headphones when they were connected, but now these weird speaker-headphones shenanigans started. It doesn't seem that the headphones are being detected as a playback device and the Realtek Audio Manager no longer displays a pop-up notifying me that an audio device has been connected. Bear in mind sound still goes through to the headphones. I've tried uninstalling the audio drivers and reinstalling the latest y410p audio driver, but still no luck.

Could this be a hardware issue? In my search for a solution, I found that it's a possibility that the cables connecting the front-right ports may not actually be connected (or something like that). I've tried looking for everything I could find to try to fix the issue short of taking apart the laptop and taking a look myself. Before I resorting to that, however, does anyone out there know what may be wrong?

I had this happen to me before. The problem was that I had disabled the realtek processes at startup. Try uninstalling the y410p's audio driver and install the y50/y40 one.

I just tried it, still didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

    EDIT:
Hmm, it's now entered this weird in-between state where the laptop fluctuates between detecting the headphones and not detecting them. I feel like I should just open up the laptop and take a look-see

Better to use a can of compressed air instead of a vacuum.

Vacuums produce static, which isn't exactly great for electronics.

Still doesn't work unfortunately :/ I guess I'll just have to take it to someplace nearby that can take a look at it. I'm sure at this point it's hardware related and needs opening up to fix, and I don't feel very much like bricking a laptop for the second time lol

That what I got when I typed in that command prompt for the cache. So wait, what is that 24gb SSD for, cause I remember it being advertised as express cache or something?..

How are your guys' y410p holding up for the summer?

Mine is around 50-60 degree celcius depending on the room temperature (lately it has been 80+ degree Fahrenheit in the northwest). This is plugged in without battery and running on high performance so I understand the heat there. I was wondering if this is okay for the laptop. Also, the left side of my y410p gets pretty warm lol so I bought a wireless keyboard and mouse combo to avoid my hands pressing against the laptop's heat.

My synaptics drivers keep bugging out for some reason. Occassionally, the gestures/scroll stops working. The cursor still moves and the clicks work but no scrolling, unless I sign out and sign back in.

    2 questions:
    - Is there an easier way to restart synaptics instead of having to log off every time?
    - I tried downloading the latest synaptics drivers from the synaptics website (17.0.19, mine is 17.0.10) but it fails to install. Tried it thrice. Any work around?

-It usually comes back if you wait a while. If not you usually have to login/restart.
-Disable driver signing and it should install. Make sure you uninstall the old drivers first.

    Another thing about the underclocking/undervolting.
    In cinebench 11.5, i got
    6.26 points with 200mhz underclock/-90mv dynamic core/-55mv cache
    5.21 points with -80mv dynamic core/-50mv cache
    5.06 points with 200mhz overclock/-80mv dynamic core/-50mv cache.
The tests without the underclock all had throttle issues as the cpu spiked at 90 degrees and instantly dropped to 2.4ghz while the underclocked one was able to stay well under 85 degrees and had no trouble maintaining 3ghz on all cores.
The results might be weird but this is what i got. Ambient temp around 27-28 degrees.

My battery stuck on 40%, it doesn't charge more than that
even when choosing "maximum battery life" form energy management

when I hover over the battery icon it shows: "40% available (plugged in,charging)"
but it isn't charging actually, neither the icon is in refilling motion.

Just got the MyDigitalSSD 64GB NGFF/M.2 SSD from Amazon for 58 bucks.. Pretty cheap for a 64gb SSD and pretty highly rated.
Popped it in, instantly recognized, then debated on whether I would just load my OS and some files on there.. or use it as a cache drive.

Decided to go with the latter, can't say I'm disappointed even one bit. It literally makes the performance/load times of applications that are commonly used such as browsers and games go up by 5x. Even the boot time is on par or just maybe .5 seconds longer compared to my friends 510P that has his OS directly installed on his SSD. Pretty happy with the purchase, and would definitely recommend for anyone looking for much faster load/boot times on the OS and commonly used applications. In the long run, for large file transfers and so on, using the SSD as the primary is better, but for now the cache definitely suffices.

yep. laptop is around 50~55 C with room temperature being around 26 C. I considered re-pasting, but decided it probably wasn't worth it. Both sides of my palm rests get hot since I have an ssd on the right side too :\ (but not as hot as the left)

I was actually thinking of selling my y410p and purchasing Thinkpad T440s since I mainly work and watch shows/movies on my laptop. I know the HD4400 can handle all that without any issues.

I already own a gaming computer which I built few years ago which still runs great and I barely have time to play anyway.

That's what I thought too. Apparently mine runes at 40 C, enough to warm up the palm rest. I never said my temps were high, just hot enough to reach the metal palm rests, which gets pretty annoying.

Ditto. Forums like these are full of people's problems - as they should be. But every once in a while, someone should post for the majority who are quite satisfied.

Just FYI, I managed to upgrade from modded 2.07 to a modded 3.05 bios (released this past week) and my Intel 7260 AC dual band is still working great :)

After nearly a year of owning this laptop that I detest so much because of the crappy screen that strains my eyes with terrible viewing angle and contrast, insane heat and godawful touchpad... The screw from the left side just came off yesterday an it's impossible to tighten.

I called Lenovo but they refuse to fix it because it's apparently my fault! Based on what? I have no idea but the laptop still looks like new!

Does anybody know a work around to this?
