Sell it. If you hate it so much, why keep it? Seriously.

I agree that for the price and specs at the time of release, it is a great laptop. I have had no issues with mine. Granted I understand that the screen could be better but for my purposes, if I want the resolution for games or movies, I attach to an external monitor (for basic everyday tasks the screen is fine for me). I rarely use the touchpad (this has been the case since my first laptop over 10 years ago and I have never went without one) since I prefer a standard mouse better. Wham...the main two problems Gue1 have solved!!! As far as heat, I have never had any issues other than what was to be expected. If I play games, the processor and GPU heat up but no more than what most people experience if everything is running correctly and the fan and screen are cleaned of dust regularly. If my temps start rising above these "norms" then I will look at repasting my processor and GPU.

For dedicated GPU, the option should be in the NVIDIA Control Panel under "Manage 3D Settings". I have the options of "Auto-select", "High performance NVIDIA processor", and "Integrated Graphics". But I am running Windows 7 so I don't know if the interface is different.

Ok, so I am having this weird problem, on windows 8.1...when I put to sleep, sometimes it automatically wakes up from sleep. I discovered it a few times when I put it to sleep (fn and F1) it goes to sleep (almost immediately - because Its a fast beast, and I put in a SSD) but as I close the lid, it wakes up!.

Also, once I put it to sleep, put it in my bag and after going to my destination, opened it and Bam! it was on the whole time....and very hot as it was in an enclosed space!

    Any advice?

Note: poweroptions --> Closing the lid = sleep in all instances
SSD as primary HD and 1tb in 'jacket' in place of dvdrom.

Have you tried going into power settings and telling it that closing the lid puts it to sleep? Skip the FN+F1 all together.

    I had a similar issue ... :

I figured that when I close the lid the screen bezel somehow touches the track pad and make random movement and clicks
so I ended up disabling the track pad every time i close the lid.

u can see this effect by connecting the laptop to an external screen
close the lid and watch the magic happen! :)

Super happy running SLI on my y410p. Able to run ultra settings for most games. Using the y510p gt755m ultrabay. Definately worth the investment and can't beat a 14" powerhouse that you can take anywhere!! If anyone is interested check the y410p SLI purchase thread for info.

This would be the perfect laptop for me, if I could be sure the touchpad will work. Here is what I need:

    I DO NOT need:
    - Multitouch of any kind.
    - Gestures or swiping of anything.
    - Tap-to-click. (I want to press down on something to register a mouse click)
    - Palm check. (all light touches should be recognized as cursor movement)

    I DO need:
    - Precise cursor movement.
    - Clear recognition of left-mouse and right-mouse click. Because this touchpad has no left/right buttons, I assume left/right clicks are distinguished by pressing down with either one or two fingers, like a Mac touchpad. Am I correct?

Will the y410p satisfy the above requirements?

Also, is scrolling performed via the usual "right edge", or does it require two-finger scrolling?

From my experiences with the synaptics touchpad, the lenovo driver is awful but the generic driver on the synaptic's website is pretty decent. (You just need to uninstall the lenovo one and turn off driver signing to install generic one)

There are settings to use the right edge or two finger scrolling in the synaptic menu.

^ What berrykerry said is correct. The lenovo provided touchpad drivers stripped out the right edge scrolling. However, synaptics generic driver has that functionality.

By default on lenovo stock drivers: one finger tap to left-click is on but double finger tap to right-click is disabled (have to manually tweak the registry to enable). So you're okay there for tapping/clicking. Scrolling is only available with two finger on lenovo's touchpad drivers.

You can achieve what you want with this laptop in terms of the touchpad when using the generic synaptics drivers for the right edge scroll. Drivers – Synaptics

It actually does have left and right buttons, you can press down on the actual pad like you do on a Mac, but there is a rocker in the middle of the pad. Press down in the lower left corner of the pad, left click, press down on the lower right, right click.
As someone who hates tap to click, I am quite satisfied with the pad.

    Hello,
My y410p broke recently due to unknown reasons, suddenly the screen doesn't show anything but some white stripes as soon as I turn it on.
I've tried pretty much everything to fix it since it broke last week and I think I'm gonna send it back to Lenovo cause it's still under warranty. (I've bought it 5 months ago)

Now I have a silly question: since lenovo discontinued their y410p recently, do you think I could get a Y40 instead of the y410p?

I find it kinda inadmissible that a new laptop breaks after only 5 months of careful use..

Oh ok so the y40 is basically a thinner y410p with the same gaming performances, right?
Then I guess I won't try to bargain with Lenovo and just wait them to fix my y410p.

first the screw from the left side came off and now all of a sudden this... Random compatibility issues with power management a year later.

This is seriously the worst laptop I have ever bought. No wonder they were selling it so cheap, I wish I would have never bought this trash. I wouldn't recommend this crappy laptop to anybody.

no, it has a worse gpu, much worst cpu and higher screen resolution. This means it will be alot worse in gaming.

For the Y410p, what is the Monitor that is supposed to be installed if you have a 1600x1200 one?

I finally got mine today but some genius at Lenovo set the monitor as a 1024x768 screen, even in the factory reset partition, so it takes all of 25% of the screen, at best. Tech Support considered it Defective-on-Arrival and I'm not feeling confident in the possibility of getting a replacement since it's an old model.

You mean 1600x900, that is what it should be set as.

1600x1200 would be much more square and not very widescreen.

You have updated nvidia and intel drivers? check to make sure your monitor in device manager doesn't have a yellow exclamation by it.

Has anyone tried SVL7's new 3.05 bios? I saw a video walk thru, and there appeared to be some fan settings in the bios. Do these settings function? Do we FINALLY get fan control?

I'm trying to flash this new modded bios, but i'm stuck on step 2 with "Error 104: The 2 SPI flash devices do not have compatible command sets."

I've been using mine for many years - got it when it was the cool new great thing on the block - with no problems, and no maintenance at all. Once or twice I cleaned the screen, but that's all. I don't bang it around a lot; that may affect things.

Software, of course, is another issue. Blindly doing every update presented to me has worked so far. A few lingering cases of crashing because the Nvidia card doesn't respond to power changes right, but that's all.

Except... for some unknown reason my wireless USB mouse has just stopped working suddenly. :-( Trackpad is fine (or I wouldn't be able to type this.) Win 8.1 recognizes it, but wiggling it around doesn't move the cursor, and the scroll wheel doesn't. About to try new batteries.

And by the way, while this thread seems to be winding down, I would like to thank all those who have helped by posting here. You have answered questions I've had before I knew to ask them, and generally been an excellent information resource. Thank you!

What will happen when I install Patriot Viper 2x4Gb DDR3L 1866 CL10 with this laptop (4700MQ-GT755m)

Is it supported or downclocked? at which speed/cas timing it will be downclocked? Anyone tried?

The rumor about Y410 has been discontinued and replaced with Y40, is that true?

    Thx :)

I'm about to get this used from the US of a private listing on Amazon and the seller also has the Asus G46vw i5 laptop with 750gb evo ssd and 16gb ram. Which one would you people recommend? The Asus is $600 while the y410p is $675. Any particular manufacturing defects with this particular model?

I'd say the y410p, slightly faster CPU and slightly faster GPU but they are very close.
Frankly though those prices seem way high for a used laptop. I paid $689 for my y410p brand new over a year ago.
Heck Lenovo has the newer y40 on sale for $699 right now: https://slickdeals.net/f/7209042-lenovo-y40-i7-gaming-laptop-699-free-shipping

I don't necessarily think the y40 is a better choice, just pointing out that the used amazon price seems high, though looking at ebay they're not much cheaper there. Maybe I should sell mine lol.

Anyone here reported luck running OS X on this little guy?

I know the 2230 and the 7260 wifi cards arent supported by OS X but i could always spring for a 10$ hackintosh-approved wireless card since i got the (1.07) modded bios.

Concerning Y40 vs Y410p, the Y40 has a better screen resolution, is thinner, better wireless card and runs cooler, but the Y410p has a better CPU, GPU, backlit keyboard and optical drive bay. Both have similar battery life, weight and dimensions (except for thickness).

Build quality should be the same on both. The Y40 also lacks the subwoofer found on its 15 and 17 inch brothers.

    Oh and hi guys :)

I bought the base y40 from lenovo and found it to be a ripoff compared to this y410p and the y500 that goes for 800$ on ebay. don't buy the y40 if you want performance! Luckily lenovo is giving me a full refund and payed for my return shipping! my only con of the y410p so far is this 1366x768 screen.

Also I saw you bought MyDigitalSSD SC2 Super Cache 2 42mm SATA III 6G M.2 NGFF M2 SSD Solid State Drive (128GB)

and was wondering why you did not just buy this MyDigitalSSD 128GB (120GB) Super Boot Eco Drive 42mm SATA III 6G M.2 NGFF 2242 SSD Solid State Drive - MDM242-SBe-128

Migrate Windows 8/7 OS to SSD with EaseUS Partition Master Free

You won't lose the license but after you copy the HDD's content to the SSD i recommend erasing the HDD.

I own none of these products. I am still using the built-in 24GB M.2 NGFF SSD that came with the system, and had no problems with it whatsoever, despite it being a "slower" SSD. While small, i use symbolic links in windows (mklink -j) in order to make maximum use (similar to making a /home partition under linux). I have currently installed Windows 8.1 on it, and still have between 4 and 7GB of free space on it despite it having only 22GB of formatted capacity.

You can get the Y410p for much cheaper than 800$. Ive gotten mine for that price brand new back in june 2013.

I do have the first one you mentioned except that it is the 64GB version. At the time I purchased, the second option was not available. But I have been perfectly happy with my purchase thus far so see no reason to upgrade or pay the extra atm.
