    Hey guys btw here is how to get your nvidia GPU working in debian-based distros. Do this as root:

    apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree linux-headers-$(uname -r) intel-microcode git dkms debhelper

    apt-get install bumblebee bumblebee-nvidia primus primus-libs primus-libs:i386

    edit /etc/default/grub with an editor of your choice and edit this line so it looks like so:

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet rcutree.rcu_idle_gp_delay=1"

    then edit /etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf

    and make sure that
    Driver = nvidia
    KernelDriver = nvidia-current

    then finally

    gpasswd -a [USERNAME] bumblebee where [username] is your username

    Then reboot your laptop and to run something with the Nv GPU just do:

    optirun [APP], you replace [APP] with whatever you wanted to run

    I'd say use Intel XTU to lower the dynamic voltage of the CPU (search this thread for instructions) and then use ThrottleStop to keep the CPU from throttling. Keep your drivers up to date, other than that you're good to go.

    hi all i recently got an alienware 14 laptop from amazon but paid a lot for it obviously so i think i might return it and get the y410p since its 300-400 dollars cheaper. saving money is important to me but i feel i will lose out on the premium feeling. I love everything about it like the matte feeling inside, trackpad is excellent, different coloring, matte screen but again its about money. also I got the base model of the alienware so i think the y410p has better specs. what do you guys think?

    The y410p about 1.5 years old right now. Personally, I think a y410p is worth around 650~750 (depending on the model) right now. My suggestion would be to search for a different laptop, as the y410p is a bit too... outdated.

    I'm about to put the m2 slot in my y410p to use - I'll be using the my digital 256GB ssd. Is there anything I should be weary of ? As the device is currently my secondary device, my idea is to move everything over to the SSD, and then completely wipe the hard drive clean. And also - is there anyway to get the one key to function on the SSD ?

    thanks but its too late. Already got the y410p for about $700. i wanted to only get a 14inch laptop so my options were limited plus i wanted not to past $1,000 so theirs that, I was considering the Y40 but imo its a major step back from the y410p. the one problem i didnt know about until after I saw the laptop is the hinges. Im just a little concerned because i know people have had problems with it but besides that im happy with the purchase. Also when i got it i didnt know i got the 1tb/25gb ssd combo. is there a way to make the laptop boot from the ssd?

    Well there's the option of the y400 as well, but you'd have to deal with the lower resolution screen. Or upgrade it of course.

    okay now im getting a little worried. i noticed the casing by the left hinge is starting to pop out. its not so bad and its only noticeable when you really look close into it but you cant see the insides. i just had it for one day, hope it wont be a problem....I dont wanna return it since im still in the process of returning my other laptop...Damn I've always wanted to try lenovo but this is not a good impression. Maybe I shouldve gotten the Y40 but that laptop seems lacking compared to the y410p. :(

    So a total of 3 displays? As long as you're not running monitors that have a resolution greater than 1080p, you should be fine. You'll have to use a hdmi and a vga cable. I've had some issues with hdmi audio while using linux, but everything's fine when I use Windows 8.

    Thanks. Immediately after I made the post. I connected the displays. I only intend to use two external displays. I dont use the laptop screen at all. It is ... crap. I have kept the resolution at 1080p as well.

    Yes it will fit, in fact that SSHD you mention is a Lenovo FRU, a lot of Y410p/Y510p's (including mine) came with it from factory. FRU no: 16200389

    Upgrading to the lastest GPU driver caused some artefacting in some games, had to reroll back to an older version :/

    Boot-ups are reasonably quick, but personally for me the overall performance wasn't fast enough, so I upgraded to an SSD.

    Each to their own however, as you may find it quick enough for your needs.

    Hi everyone, not sure if I'm in the right place, but I'm currently having an issue with my y410p. Certain games can only be run with the integrated graphics.
    Specifically Black Ops 2 and World of Warcraft.

    When I try to start these games with their .exes set to Nvidia Gpu in Nvidia control panel, all I get is a black screen from which I cannot alt-tab or alt-F4, only ctrl-alt-del. I have tried installing the drivers from Lenovo's website for graphics and the chipset, but I'm not sure how to entirely uninstall the previous drivers to make sure it installs correctly. If I tell the games to run with integrated graphics in nvidia control panel, they will open fine.

    My experience with this laptop has so far been great, except that I can only get like 20 frames per second on both of these games.

    Y410P Specs:
    (Note my specs are a little odd, it was customized a bit by the person I bought it from.)

    Hard Drives:
    ---(C:\) 24GB SSD
    ---(D:\) 512GB HDD 7200RPM

    CPU:
    ---Intel Core i7 4700MQ

    GPUs:
    ---Intel Integrated Graphics HD 4600
    ---Nvidia GT755M (No SLI)

    RAM:
    ---8GB DDR3

    I hope that one of you might have an idea of how to help me with this, as I really hope to be able to get these to run.

    Also, this is my first post here at notebookreview! :)

    Is it falling out from the bottom, top, or all over? If it is from the top, you may want to check for the two screws that supposed to hold the top in place. Otherwise, does you keyboard have broken tabs at the bottom?

    How well does the Windows 10 tech preview run on this?

    Now that my desktop is fixed, i was thinking moving all my games back onto my desktop and using my laptop for W10.

    This has probably been answered before be what type of port is the one on the front left side of the laptop. (on the inside) I've heard it called an msata and an m.2 but it doesn't look like either. IMG_20150212_193328.jpg IMG_20150212_193546.jpg

    You sure? From what I've seen m.2 has three "connections" while my port only has two. It seems you would have to leave some of the pins just hanging outside. [IMG]

    This is the correct card and I am certain it is an M.2 as I have personally purchased one and installed it. Nothing will be left "hanging out" as it fits perfectly into the slot. Note that on each end the two smaller pieces: one is wider than the other. This allows only one way for the card to fit in so it is not difficult to figure out. If your laptop did not come with an express cache card, you may not have a screw there (which appears to be the case based off your photos). Be prepared to get one if the brand you order does not supply one. When I ordered my MyDigitalSSD M.2 card, a screw came with the card but I have seen some complaints about other brands not including one.

    LOL. I don't think you will be disappointed. However, I will say that I bought a Samsung EVO SSD and a USB 3.0 2.5" hard drive enclosure. I debated on the swappable ultrabay hard drive enclosure but didn't like much of the reviews on how they fit. I still use the 1TB hard drive for my music, video, and pictures along with backups for everything else. I purchased the m.2 ngff originally with the idea of making a linux drive but never got around to it due to college. I use it as a data disk for select copies of music and movies (and pictures) so that I do not always have to connect the external drive. I graduate with my BS in April so I will look into linux at that point.

    The reason for purchaseing the standard SSD is that it posted better speed results and I was able to get the 250GB version on sale at a steal price. I also happened to need an external drive for backup purposes since my old one was crapping out, so the total price was only $40 more than the 1TB portable external I wanted so I figured it was a no brainer.

    No that's a limitation of the (old) LVDS connector. The new Y40 (which has FHD) uses eDP.

    Hey guys, i had a problem with my Y410p after i updated windows this was about 3 months ago. When laptop boots up it blue screens (BSOD), every single time! Then i had to keep uninstalling every single update before i got my laptop working well again.
    So i decided not to update anymore and now i have over 2GB of Windows update piled up. Any advice? I really need to install updates.

    Well my laptop finally took a dump. Just started overheating suddenly then heard a small pop. After that it would loop. It would show the Lenovo startup, a black windows with a small blue box with 4 options. Regardless of actions, 3 to 4 seconds later the same pop would occur and loop over again. Motherboard. Decided to go on and get me another since the price of the mobo is so much. Will stick to my desktop for gaming and purchased a laptop for doing casual gaming at most.
