Laptop is still going strong. Had a little problem after an Nvidia update. I could play AOE3 without any problems before but now I have to specify that it use the integrated graphics else it wont work. This is funny because I was of the opinion that my discrete could handle games better.

Hi guys, can you suggest a wifi card that I can buy to replace my existing one?
My Y410p came shipped with a Broadcom BCM43142 802.11b/g/n Wireless Network Adapter
Now I don't really know if the bluetooth uses this same adapter but I've been having this issue wherein when I connect any bluetooth device, my WIFI suddenly acts up and loses it's DNS. Troubleshooting sometimes help, but the only fast way to resolve it is to disable/enable my WIFI in change adapter settings.
I've been through several drivers for the wifi card as well as the bluetooth drivers, to no avail. I've been scouring several forums to solve my problem but it just keeps recurring.
Also, sometimes after booting up, my WIFI doesn't connect, have to disable/enable it to connect again.
Thanks. -
Does the Lenovo startup stall with the dotted circle cycling forever? And right after that, you'll hear a pop, and then it goes to the login screen?
Or it pops a black window and says something is flawed with your boot? -
Do all Y410P models have the cache SSD? How do you know if you have it? Mine is the 1TB HDD, 1366x768 model. I just reinstalled a clean Windows 8 on it and I wonder if I have that cache SSD
-
I don't think there's any way to tell within Windows itself, since caching SSD don't show up as drives. The easiest way to make sure you have the SSD is to simply remove the laptops back cover and check for the physical drive.

What about in Disk Management? Does it not show up there as well?
-
I don't believe it does. I only had one in my laptop for a day or so, so I don't quite remember, but I don't think it showed up anywhere.
-
That seems a bit hard to believe. I mean, it should at least show something in Device Manager, no?
-
I went and googled it for you. It seems that the drive not showing up in device manager is normal.
"You normally cannot see the cache drive outside of the raid controller. To the system is appears as one drive just like any other raid array.
If you want to actually see the cache drive, enter the raid bios while booting up or you can see it in the Intel RST software too." -
God, I look into that thread ( http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1828969/ssd-cache-drive-recognized.html) and those last 2 posters have exactly the same issue, with the same laptop:
-
Well that's unfortunate. Maybe there are drivers you can download from Lenovo's or Intel's site to check to see if it's working?
-
I tried everything. I installed ExpressCache, it says there's no SSD detected. I installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology, the SSD is not showing up at all (it only shows the HDD and the DVD drive). I checked BIOS but there's no option that can remotely be related to it (no caching option, no RAID option, etc.). I installed all drivers on the Lenovo site.
-
Just open up the bottom cover and check.
If you have the caching mSATA, it'll show up in Disk Management, Device Manager, and Intel RST, but not in Windows Explorer unless you've manually formatted and partitioned it to be used as a data drive instead of a cache. If you've got ExpressCache installed, it shows the caching SSD stats when you enter eccmd.exe -info in an admin cmd prompt. -
So I opened up and see this:
I guess this means I don't have one? Is it normal? -
Yeah you don't have one. Some of the cheaper SKUs never came with the caching mSATA.
-
Install hwinfo64 or
Install intel rapid storage technology. You can see it from there.

Hi guys, what is your experience with windows 10 update?
-
It seems that my games are crashing a bit more now with even the latest Nvidia drivers. I downloaded GPU-Z and it seems that some games that I was running on max settings now are hitting 55-99% on the GPU and crashing with the nvidia kernel driver issue. Anyone have a fix for this? Will running dual 750M SLI help with this?

Seems like Windows 10 is not a supported Upgrade and must be done "At your own Risk"
Now i feel like going back to W7.

Hi guys I happened to change some settings in my bios and now my laptop starts up with the screen black, the keyboard lit, and the fan on. Nothing else happens from here on out.. I tried removing the bios battery, nothing changed. I tried an emergency bios flash using Andy's tool to find the right bios name to put on my flash drive (its Yx01.bi but I also put other file extensions like .rom, .fd, .bin etc) and then tried the procedure posted all over the place... Unplugging all power to the laptop then I held down fn+r/b/n/f/esc/m/s along with other keys ass well, followed by pressing the power button, but the flash drive only blinks once as I power on the machine and nothing else happens after that.. If anyone has successfully recovered from that type of error can u please post your procedure? Thanks in advance

Similar problem here. Some of my games (AOE3 and FM2015) are refusing to start with nvidia GPU selected as GPU of choice. They both work with the integrated GPU. Any ideas? I havent changed any spec on my laptop.

Updated to Windows 8.1 as a prep for Windows 10. Worried about non-support if upgraded to Windows 10.
-
Installed 10 on mine. Seamless. 0 issues! Do it.
-
Windows 10 working flawlessly here (and even fixed a few glitches i had on W8.1). Also with a recent update we can now re use the advanced features of the elan trackpack such as rotate.
So despite W10 being unsupported by Lenovo, it does run better than it's predecessor. Though the older versions of windows are always an option if you dont like Microsoft's telemetry...
Though since i dual boot with Linux this is a non-issueStanley08 likes this. -
Exactly. 10 is great on this computer!

I'm having the same nVidia driver crash issue on my GT750M Y410P. Games are totally unplayable on my system, but it's A-OK for day to day computing. Doesn't matter if I play with a single GT750M, or with GT750M SLI, Crashes, crashes, crashes.
I purchase all my gadgets with my AmEx card, and I warrantied my laptop a few months back and received a refund. -
Today, I just got a very MINT
Lenovo IdeaPad Y410P loaded with Windows 10 Pro.

Not many people visiting this thread anymore it looks like.
I have coming any day now off eBay:
* DDR3 16GB Memory
* Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5" SATA III SSD
* HDD caddy for Ultrabay also coming via eBay
The 1TB HDD SATA II HDD will be put in Ultrabay
That should really speed things up.
One of the big complaints I seen in these 463 pages is poor battery life.
Well, I took care of that by getting a aftermarket 9 cell battery.
It lasted 7:26 hours doing basic stuff. When I get the SSD & memory installed,
that should improve even more. I'll test it then doing the exact same things
and another test doing a few hours of Adobe CS6 work which should be a better test.
Oh yeah, I will be doing some kind of custom paint on this. See sig for former paint jobs.Last edited: Oct 9, 2015 -
I'm reading in various forum, here and Lenovo and others where they're having problems cloning the current HDD to the SSD when they have Windows 10.
We will see and I'll report the results. -
Interesting, do you have a link to this aftermarket battery?

I've had mine done over a week ago and it's is working great.
-
I got mine off eBay. You can google it and a lot come up:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...6A01+L12S6E01+Y410P+Y500NT-ISE+Y590P&_sacat=0
Mine got 7.4 hours having several websites open, transferring files to HDD off media stick, some photoshop etc.
Not bad at all. -
Not much going on here anymore
Don't know why as a modified Y410p like mine smokes the Y50 series!

Currently I'm looking for a Y410P Nvidia Ultrabay Video Graphics Card GT750M -
Can't seem to find a Y410P Nvidia Ultrabay Video Graphics Card GT750M anywhere, so I'm thinking of selling this laptop because of that.
-
@jack53 see http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...m-with-gt755m-natively-no-driver-mods.753225/
You need to mod the GT755M from a Y510P for it to work. I don't know where you can buy one of these. I would suggest selling the system, the build quality is trash and you can get better value in a Clevo. May I suggest the up and coming P640RE if you are looking to stay with 14"?jack53 likes this. -
I have a question about my Y410p. I have upgraded it to Win 10, but it's not performing as expected, having some extreme slowness and I think it needs a clean install. Is there a way to do this, but still retain the Lenovo partition, in the event I need to put it back in the original condition?
-
A clean install basically means you won't be able to restore the laptop to it's OEM state. So, you have two options.
The first is my preferred method. Simply do a clean install, and download all the drivers you need online. No more bloatware.
The second method is to use the laptops one key recovery (button on the left side next to the power jack) and restore the system to Windows 8/7. That should work but really it sounds like it would cause more headaches than it's worth. -
Guys that upgraded to 10 - do y'all have any problems?
-
Nope, none whatsoever. I'm currently on 8.1, but I have used 10 for long periods of time. Since it's release it's been improved drastically, and won't be a problem on your y410p.Cristao likes this.
-
If you upgraded your WiFi card to the Intel 7260ac.
Only problem i have is for the Intel 7260 ac WiFi quality is not good for gaming. Have high ping spikes since I upgraded from Windows 8.1. I think it's a driver issue. But if not gaming it's all good.

Just a bit of FYI for those still rocking the y410p, there are 512GB 42mm M.2 SSDs. I almost picked up a 256GB 42mm M.2 until I found out these 512GB models existed. I picked it up on Amazon, but for some reason the 512GB model disappeared from the store page. Odd, but I'll link to it anyways.

Seems like everyone deserted here. Well, I got myself a Dell 7559 computer. 6th Gen CPU and GTX 960M. Couldn't be happier

Good on you mate
. I think I'll wait for Pascal at least before getting another laptop.
-
Needed a change. Maybe when Pascal comes. I upgrade
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk -
Haha fair enough. If I didn't have SLI I probably would of upgraded too.
-
SLI is great. Why does Notebook Review rate GTX 960M > GT 755M SLI? Is this correct? If it is then it means either one card is really good or the other is not so good.
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk -
Notebookreview? Do you mean notebookcheck? If so, then they actually say that 755M SLI is 8% better than the 960M. Realistically that means the 960M is preferable, since it has virtually even performance at the worst, and far superior performance at best.
Hmmm have you ever run 3DMark? I'm curious as to what score you'd get. -
Haha! Notebookcheck mate. Yes. I have not run it personally, however these are the scores from my EXACT type of laptop. Same config.
3D Mark Cloud Gate (G) - 31,744
3D Mark Fire Strike (G) - 4,421
3D Mark (Sky Diver) - 14,632
Outscoring the likes of Acer Aspire V15 Nitro, Lenovo Y700 and ASUS ROG GL552VW
All with the same GPU but even higher CPU (Core i7) compared to the Core i5 on my Dell 7559.
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk -
Oh cool gotcha. Don;t know how that translates to gaming performance, but it seems that the 960m slightly edges out the 755m SLI. That i5 is a quad core so it should compare favorably to the i7.
