The new Legion 7 (16-inch) looks amazing. Have pretty much everything I want in a serious gaming laptop.![]()
-
i prefer the clean look of the regular legion 5/7, the "pro" looks too much like a y545 -
The QHD options are great. I really missed that. The new RTX3000-series claim to be able to handle QHD with good FPS.
15 is too small, 17 is good. 16 with minimal borders should be a nice sweet spot. -
Hello guys,
I upgraded my laptop recently with BOE NV156FHM-NY5 which is a great display, but my colors are a little too saturated (faces on photos are reddish and orange). Also my EDID seems to be not ok ( Ordered the display from China) and I have issue with HDR mode. The screen randomly goes black for 1 second and then goes back to normal. This happens out of the blue. Sometimes after 20 minutes, sometimes after 2. I think I have incorrect timing in EDID or my edp cable cannot handle HDR perfectly, but thats a different story. I would like to see if I can correct this by EDID modification.
So I would like to ask you to share ICC profile and EDID parameter ( especially timing), this would help a lot for me.
Thank you in advance for you support!
PS: Earlier I thought FHD resolution is not enough and I need to upgrate to 4k, but as some of you mentioned, the matte coating on this display is soo smooth, that it look really clean and sharp! -

Entered a new era - just ordered a Lenovo Legion 5 via Amazon. I'll have to tweak it a little when it arrives on 1/18/2021. My goal is to see if it can handle my need for a mobile, secondary computer for at least one year. Play games as well as manly tasks such as watching Youtube videos and posting on NBR.
If laptop manufacturers are bent on selling overpriced trash, what happens when we pull the rug from under them!!! -
I know I will. -

The New Legion 5s will be available in March and the new Legion 7 will be available in June and most likely they'll be a bit expensive depending on the specs. A new GPU architecture plus new Ryzen CPUs are going to cause prices to go up while they'll lower the prices on the older models to get rid of them. -

So, my experiment has started and started well. I have solidly committed myself to being a desktop-dude. That is where I will commit my high value resources. That doesn't mean I don't need a gaming laptop. With a desktop, my path forward straight forward - new GPU card; new CPU; new SSD; new motherboard if the case hasn't soured with age.
With a laptop, my path forward was murky -
- P870TM-R (not clear I could upgrade CPU, GPU on my own); replacement cost of system $3000+
- MAG-15 (replace SSDs, not CPU or GPU); replacement cost $2000+
I turned my sights on the $1000 laptop market. Clearly, I wouldn't be able to get either a desktop CPU or an RTX 2080. I then asked the question how I would really be using this system. Playing games hard, sure. But, also doing time-wasting activities such as teleworking. I asked myself why I needed to keep my desktop PC on all day when I was just using Citrix or watching Youtube.
When the CES 2021 AMD laptops were announced with RTX 30 series GPUs, I immediately went to Eluktronics to see what I could pre-order. A 5900H/RTX 3080 laptop would set me back about $2500. Not what I wanted to do. Eluktronics also was offering a 4800H/RTX3060 for about $2000 as configured and taxes. I asked myself did I really need that much muscle in a BGA laptop.
I came across the AMD Legion 5. Last year's model for sure. 4800H CPU and a 1660Ti. I eyeballed the RTX 2060 variant and decided against it since the 2060 would offering more performance than I thought I really needed.
The Legion 5 arrived today. No problems starting it up. I did have a problem trying to install the latest Nvidia driver. I think Lenovo's software requires updates via Geforce Experience rather than stand-alone like I'm used to. Oh well.
After installing my software, and performing a Macrium Reflect backup, I ran some benchmarks to better tune the laptop. As is my routine, I fired up Cinebench R20:
No thermal CPU throttling with the balanced profile. I noted that the laptop held the 4.2 gHz boost clock for most of the run before settling down to about 3.8 hz.
Next, I ran Time Spy:
During this run, the GPU power limit throttled around 80 watts. I undervolted the GPU using MSI Afterburner so that I could maintain a steady clock of 1650 mHz; I also overclocked the memory by 600 mHz:
Using the above settings, I ran Fire Strike:
Bottom Line - this laptop is not a DTR. It is relatively inexpensive. My goal is to beat this laptop to a bloody pulp with gaming and teleworking for 1 year. So far, so good!!Iperzampem0 and KING19 like this. -

Hi everyone,
Can anybody tell me if the Lenovo Vantage / Dolby Atmos programs on these models come with a fully customizable equalizer within the sound settings and works when using headphones?? I've trawled Google but most results only show the basic music / game / movie options. Also, anyone with the 80whr battery model, how have you found overall battery life when non-gaming and the like?
I've been keeping a close eye on the Lenovo 5's as it seems the best choice for me to go for here in the UK - especially because the 80whr battery is featured in pretty much any configuration.
Many thanks.Last edited: Jan 22, 2021 -
If you have hybrid mode on and on quiet mode, I can easily get about 4 hours on browsing and videos and the like.
And no there is no fully customizeable EQ, just able to select from pre-configured settings. Honestly they are all good in their own right and work well while on the laptop itself, or plugged into the 3.5mm audio combo jack. I noticed a difference between having Dolby on, and off, and I MUCH prefer to have it on. -
I finally unlocked G-Sync on my Legion 7i (tested on two different machines), so yeah, Lenovo did that on purpose IMO.
After two weeks of testing on 144Hz and 240Hz panels I had no issues at all.Pedro69 likes this. -

I had to do that myself (I mean BIOS edit) because I spend some time to enable it differently and I failed.
Anyway I got G-Sync working fine on my machine right now. -
Just one more thing, are you absolutely sure there is no adjustable equalizer on these models? I noticed on one of the YouTube reviews for the model yesterday (Own or Disown), that their variant showed a different layout to the sound settings and in particular Dolby Atmos itself - containing the sound profiles and the personalize tab.
It could also be that Lenovo very recently revamped Lenovo Vantage as a whole and have since removed certain features such as the following.
Apologies that this may seem a strange query to iron out, but I have a very particular way with how I like to listen to my music.
Many thanks - Liam. -

If anyone willing to unlock G-Sync on Legion 7i please feel free to contact me via PM

So I found an way to enable G-Sync for those variants that were shipped without it, currently G-Sync is only available with i7 10875H CPU. -

There's a lot of news regarding upcoming releases of laptops with AMD 5000 series processors and 30 series GPUs. Although this video below focuses on 5000 series benchmarks, I am stunned by how well the 4800H performs. In my quest to find the most capable gaming laptop in the $1k or below range, the Legion 5 does not disappoint:

Ok, so one of my local retailers have listed the new Lenovo 7 16-inch.
It have all the specs I want, thou I haven't read up on the new Ryzens. Is the R9 5900HX a good choice for a gaming laptop? What does it compare to with Intel so to speak?Kalen likes this. -
The 16" is gonna be the best offering for sure.

Personally you should go with the 5800H when its available, its more than enough for gaming and productivity tasks. Even my 4800H beats Intel CPUs like no tomorrow.Kalen likes this. -
Hey Guysو I am thinking getting legion 7i and I just have few concerns I hope you can help me with it..
First, I am buying it for programming, dealing with DBs, Virtual machines and lil bit of gaming and lot of internet browsing as well as movies watching. How sufficient is this laptop for those purposes?
how is the thermal and the fan noise under such workloads? the most important thing for me that I will be able to write on the keyboard without feeling too hot in my hands.
Can I unify the color of the rgb lightings I do not like my laptop to have this rainbow lights everywhere ? if yes do I need to change it with every restart?
Thanks in advance for your help ^^ -
Fancy that. Found this now for pre-booking;
Lenovo Legion 7 (16-inch)
R7 5800H
16GB
1TB
RTX 3080
165Hz QHD
This will most likely replace my Y740.
So the 5800H will be enough for modern gaming in QHD for sure? -
could you please reupload the picture?

Legion 5 Pro will definitely be on my 1/18/22 shopping list, Excellent value at that price-point.

Plus it'll use the 125w RTX 3070 due to the 300w power brick which is kinda surprising. It make me curious of which version the RTX 3080 the Legion 7 will use.Kalen likes this. -

So is it not possible for you to take a look at it and see if you can figure it out
I will donate for your time
Thank you -
I need to know where and how should I replace SUBSYS ID for GPU.
In case of my Legion 7i it was all about changing GPU SUBSYS ID from 17AA 3FCF to 17AA 3FCE (this particular SUBSYS ID is valid for RTX2070/2070S/2080S) or 17AA 3FD2 to 17AA 3FD1 for RTX2060.
But every Legion 7i got some modules and stuff related to GSync included with main BIOS.
Legion 5(i) SUBSYS ID for RTX2060 is 17AA 3FC8, probably same will be used for GTX1660Ti (or very similar) but it's all about finding proper register to edit atm.Last edited: Feb 11, 2021 -
So what information do you need
I can give you a teamviewer session in my laptop and compensate for you time
in my country they dont sell gsync models and thats the model i wanted
gsync -
-
So will you try for my model
I have spi programmer to revert to stock bios in case brick so its safe for me -
Legion 5i is using common 128Mbit chips so it will be easy to reflash them with cheap CH341 programmer and AsProgrammer app. -
Ok let me get the CH341 on route to me then
I will contact you in a few days -
