    Hello,
on the Lenovo website (i've just checked the german website) they have removed the i7 15" 2070 max q version.
There are just 10 pieces of the 17" version and some units of the 15" i5 version available anymore. Im not sure what that means.

    https://www.lenovo.com/de/de/laptop...series/Lenovo-Legion-Y740-15ICHg/p/81HE003YGE

Also im still reading every day every news to this series. I red somewhere that the 500nits display is just a 60hz display.
It's not 100% sure but if i find this information i will post it.

[Edit] seems the review website where i found this information has mixed something with the last generation.

From Lenovo website: all displays (300 nits or 500 nits) should have 144hz + g-sync

I really doubt we are getting a 500 nit display, it's either coming on the y540 or the y750. I just wouldn't bank on anymore features or updates to the current model and would look forward to the next ones

    Why would they?

They only advertise 300nits and even absolute top of the line expensive gaming laptops don't have 500nit panels.

My ship date was moved up a week this morning to late April but now it's back to May 5th. Is it possible they are waiting on the new 9th gen Intel chips and will use those on our orders? Supposedly Acer is announcing them next week and will upgrade their pending orders to the new chips since the 8th gen are already in short supply / backorder. I think it's worth the wait if so.

Ohh that would be a trip. Heck the Legion is one of the few that could handle it without much problem.

It’s possible but highly unlikely, sorry to rain on your parade but yes a upgrade to next gen CPUs would be great but I highly doubt it will make much difference in overall performance.
    I hope I’m wrong.

Not unless they were 8core chips

I should ask for a discount because of the delays.

I think most recent articles say 6 core with slight boost to single core speeds.

And I've seen one article say that they'll be on GTX 1600 bases and RTX 2060 models to start in May.

To be honest, even that wont make much of a difference. Just take a closer look at the 9700K/9900K, they get really hot.
As long as cpus are still made in 14nm, I dont expect big performance improvements (in laptops).
On Desktops, you might be able to push the cpus, using watercooling, but in laptops you just have limited cooling space.
And there are just very few laptops that can cool down the 8750h, and throttle quite hard, let along an 8950hk or the 9xxx series.

Imo, I just noted that 8-core chips were available. It's up to the manufacturer how they use that tech to get to fit into the space they have available. As far as raw bleeding edge performance get a desktop. It's a dead end conversation and frankly I wasn't insinuating there would be huge perf gains in laptops.

Thinking about that there might be a hard limit to which gpu the 9 series could be paired with and still be viable.

Update to shipping is now the middle of May for mine.

Side note I've seen other brands using this Intel chipset revision their specifications upwards

Will the Y740 also be able to handle 2TB drives and 64GB memory.

Latter being massive overkill. But just wondering if anyone has a better idea how this kinda stuff works.

You can have up to 2TB in the NVMe slot or the Sata3 slot or both if you.
You can only go up to 32gb of RAM.

Interesting, according to this listing, it'll also be outfitted with a Gtx 1660Ti. I wonder how that stacks up against the current 2060 and 2070/80 max-q cards.

    https://www.compsource.com/pn/81UF0001US/Lenovo-1223/Legion-Y740i79750h16gb256gb-81UF0001US/

I'm tempted to contact Lenovo and see if it's possible to get the new cpu on my yet-unshipped unit, but I kinda doubt it. Still if it shows up on their own webstore soon it'll be worth a shot.

It’s got to be happening anytime soon now. They pulled the y740 off the site again.
I was initially going to hold off till this point in time now to bite. But they had 15% off. Had to make use of that extra 5% because they only usually do 10% off and I was going 2070 despite how the 2060 shows how close it is (I ordered before we knew this).
Now I’m thinking to ask them to pair it with a 9750h instead for the inconvenience since it’s been since the 6th of March and no movement with my order, otherwise I’ll just cancel it completely. I dont want a discount unless it’s like £150

    @redwolf2x

Can confirm I also received an order update with earlier ship date reported and $100 complementary USD gift card as "a small gesture of gratitude for purchasing one of our Legion systems."

I hadn't contacted customer support to ask about delays or discounts so from a customer-service perspective I found the email very considerate and have applied a few extra good karma stars to my Lenovo account book. Classy. In the grand scheme of things probably isn't costing them much but will add good warm/fuzzys with their customer base.

My custom/maxed Y740-15" was ordered March 3rd and now is expected to ship April 19th, with April 26 delivery date. That previously had been sitting on a April 30th ship date. I think that is positive progress.

Also got an offer to write a review on the laptop and some accessories/software purchased for a chance to win too. That is hard to honestly do without a product in hand yet. I am taking a half good karma star back for that mis-step. Had a go at the privacy screen filter...

The screen privacy filter offers a sublime off gassing odor. Earthy tones of processed paper, high notes of volatile chemicals, and fresh hints of charged electric particles, will take you back to the time a tornado hit a paper plant on the Great Plains of America’s heartland.

The product really delivers wonderfully as a placemat for breakfast or lunch TV dinners warmed in the microwave.

It also has multi functional capabilities on April fools day when placed over the family flat panel TV preventing sections of the display from being seen by friends and family. Guaranteed to bring hours of laughs and enjoyment to all ages!

Highly recommended as a consolation prize to keep valued Lenovo customers preoccupied while they wait months for their laptop product to be built and ship.

Also included at no extra charge was “honking big oversized shipping box for cat.” This was an incredible bonus gift they provided that has provided additional fun for cats of all ages and coat colors.

    ...what do you think?

I keep telling myself..."good things come to those who wait, good things come to those who wait....."

    Cheers!

There’s zero chance you’ll get upgraded to a 9750h if you call before it is officially listed on the website. Most likely the sales reps have no information as to when it is available or would be under NDA.

Seriously does anyone know what kind of business politics this is?

I mean these models were nearly 4 months available/orderable?
And now they are gone.. respectively in this configuration.
Additionally when we read this thread many many people are still waiting for their product.

I can't really understand that.

Fortunately, I was able to order a unit a day before it disappeared from the shop, but some friends of mine wanted to order the "normal" configuration as well.

Hi -new here! I ordered a Legion Y740 17" | 16GB RAM | 512 GB NVMe | RTX 2080 Max-Q on March 1st for 2179.35 (teacher's discount), with an expectation for shipping on March 23rd. A week later, it was pushed back to May 7th. I called Lenovo support. They said they'll do their best to adjust the shipping date and, to compensate the lateness they knocked 115.00 off my total. A week after that I saw no change. Contacted Lenovo support again, but by email. Two days later I received a reply, "Important Information About Your Lenovo Order". The expected to ship date is April 19th and, they gave me a 100.00 gift card. Can't beat that!!

I've read there are some big changes to the Y740; both aesthetically and the performance. Changes to the LCD panel, moving speakers from the sides to the top, and introducing the i7-9750h chipset. No certainty if they are replacing the RTXs with the GTX 1660Ti, or slipping in the GTX as optional to RTX.

..with all that said and done, I have thoughts of canceling my order.

What you are referring to is next years model, not the current Y740. I do expect some minor hardware revisions with the CPU and possible new gpu options fairly soon, but they won't change the actual layout and design of the laptop itself.

Oh definitely. My order isn’t estimated to ship till end of April. So I’m going to keep checking and hoping it makes it as it will hopefully help sway my decision.
For some strange reason tho I’m very curious about the 1660ti for price to performance ratio. If you can get a cheap config with a 2060. If the 1660ti was on par with the desktop version.
That be pretty amazing. I can’t imagine they selling much of the rtx cards unless you want a “higher end” card just because.

Yeah, you're right -the roadmap for the next model, Legion Y750 (for 2020):
    • nose Cam shifted to the top (15")
    • front face speakers
    • refined keyboard (inspirations from ThinkPad series)
    • refined trackpad
    • additional ports
    • higher quality screen

I'm finding information about the Y740 a bit confusing. Some people in the thread are saying that they have already purchased it, others are saying they have had delays in their orders until late April, and when I look at the Lenova website it says the Y740 + Y740 are "coming soon" like they haven't even been released yet. I also read that there was a Y740 laptop recall in Jan 2019 for some unspecified reason.

On top of that reviews are sending conflicting signals regarding the build quality. Some say it is good, others say the chassis and screen have lot of flex and don't think it can cope with everyday wear an tear. At first glance it seems as if the 15" has better build quality than the 17" inch, as that tends to get better reviews. Any one know what the story is behind all this paradoxical information?

Nope tech changes every year, and yea the video said they were going to make changes, but until we see a photo of the actual machine, then your just kinda sitting on speculation.

    @TechnoWhore
only lenovo y540 is showing coming soon in U.S. unless your looking at something overseas.

recall don't know too much about about.

build quality issues is kinda of a stretch.

There have not been any recalls for Y740 according to Lenovo and they are still available for me when I go to official site, I do not see "coming soon" anywhere. At least on US site. But yes, there are delays right now, up to 3-4 weeks but these are approximate amounts, your order might be moved to earlier time.
As for people commenting about build quality - this is highly subjective especially the amount of flex.

The "coming soon" is on the Irish website and UK website, not checked further than that. From my experience good build quality is not subjective when it is good in reviews. Laptops with actual good build qualities never get labelled with a bad build label. I'm sort of interested in this laptop, but it doesn't seem available yet where I am and there no real consensus on build quality, which is putting me off. I am interested in its competitive price point, apparent good thermal solution, and the ease of accessing the internals. The nose cam, small battery, and flexing (especially on the screen/hinges), not so much.

imo, I think we are stretching the build quality argument.

As far as battery yea it's smaller than intended but that's what happens when you try to shove in a 2.5 drive with an m2, you end up giving up something, but then again when you got g-sync on and a bunch of other mess running battery isn't doing you a whole lot of justice anyways...

    web cam...really?? webcam...

Should have gone with the option to just not have a webcam on the laptop and pack in a better one to attach.

I don’t own this laptop but from all the reviews the build quality seems fine. What are people doing, trying to bend the screen in half?
