Hey guys, I am looking at the Y740-15IRH. I have read the last 5 or 6 pages in the thread but obviously not the whole thing. I had some questions.
Does this model use the BOE NV156FHM-N4J panel?
I plan on getting from Amazon and sending it back until I get a unit with low backlight bleed, but how is the backlight bleed on these units? Are dead pixels a problem?
Some of the early posts say the temps are great and the cooling is excellent, while the recent posts in this thread report high temps and throttling. I do plan on repasting with LM (Thermal Grizzly conductonaut) and using some Fuipoly pads but which is more likely? I do notice a lot of users underclocking and undervolting, which I will probably end up doing as well if not for performance for silence reasons. I am not too concerned with the best gaming performance, it's more important to me to have a quiet and cool experience while gaming/heavy workloads. As long as I am getting over 60fps average I would say it's fine.
Speaking of silence, do the fans shut off at idle, and how loud are they at load? Is there any coil whine?
The 57wh battery should give about 3 hours battery life on integrated right? I don't really get how the mux/optimus switch works exactly but it sounds like it's a physical switch to switch from the integrated graphics to the rtx 2070 max-q passthrough with g-sync. Is that correct?
I know laptop software sucks and I read some of the complaints here, but how buggy is the main control software really?
And finally, does anyone know what NVME ssd this uses for the 512GB and 1TB options?
Thanks guys.

I plan on getting from Amazon and sending it back until I get a unit with low backlight bleed, but how is the backlight bleed on these units?
On my HDR panel I have quite a bit on the lower left and bottom. its only noticable in low light but its there.
Some of the early posts say the temps are great and the cooling is excellent, while the recent posts in this thread report high temps and throttling.
Well, temps are fine but nothing special in my opinion. It only throttles at peak wattage of around 70 watts. you can lower that with throttlestop. at long term power limits (45/50 watts) no throttling occurs, even on stress tests of both cpu and gpu. btw: the blue thermal compound that some reviewers (like B0B) mentioned was not applied on my machine. it was a grey one but of higher quality than what for example dell uses on their chips.
Speaking of silence, do the fans shut off at idle, and how loud are they at load? Is there any coil whine?
They do come on when watching videos, for example but almost silent. On higher load they are not that loud but have a slight high pitched background sound.
My unit has pretty loud coil whine in some conditions. Never experienced that on other machines but personally it doesnt bother me.
The 57wh battery should give about 3 hours battery life on integrated right?
At 50% brightness I got 3,5 - 4 hours watching youtube videos.
mux/optimus switch
Its a software "switch" that can either be triggered in the vantage app or in the bios and requires a reboot to switch between optimus and dedicated graphics.
but how buggy is the main control software really?
i think the system is pretty bug free. only the icue system annoys me as after a reinstall of the corsair software it disabled my ability to switch profiles with fn+space and when turning on it always enables the keyboard backlight with the rainbow effect while booting even tho i deleted all those profiles from the software. it catches itself after windows and the icue software loaded.
And finally, does anyone know what NVME ssd this uses for the 512GB and 1TB options?
I got the 1TB drive which is the samsung pm981
cheers,

@ericxps
Thanks for responding. Just because I wasn't clear, you have the 15.6" screen right? Do you know what panel it is? If not I believe device manager will tell you.
My unit has pretty loud coil whine in some conditions.
Do you mind elaborating on what those conditions are?
Its a software "switch" that can either be triggered in the vantage app or in the bios and requires a reboot to switch between optimus and dedicated graphics.
So with rebooting you can switch from optimus to dedicated graphics with g-sync?
Only the icue system annoys me
Yeah I think that would annoy me as well, I'd prefer to have the lights off most of the time except when I might occasionally need a backlit keyboard. But hopefully with NVME boot times the time it spends in rainbow effect mode is shorter.
And now for some questions for everybody else:
Have any of you had any issues with audio latency or DPC latency with the Y740-15IRH? A few reviews mentioned having latency issues.
SInce the heatsink is uneven, would liquid metal still work (never tried to lap before, so without lapping) or should I use something like Gelid GC Extreme or IC Diamond 7 (even though the temp drop is much lower?)
This is a very general question: With everything going on in the world at the moment, do you think it's worth waiting for the Ryzen 4000 series laptops? They look very promising and due to world events the need for a laptop is no longer urgent, but I'll still likely need one in the next 6 months and I'm not sure about whether any products will be releasing on schedule. Thoughts?Last edited: Mar 19, 2020 -
Coil whine through headphone jack with maxed out raytracing load.
Fixed by using USB headset. -
Today well today, i opened up the lap once again.
I removed totally the mesh from the back cover!
That alone gave - 3 to 5 C .Also keyboard comes less warm than with the mesh.
i re-applied paste, this time i used phobya nano-grease extreme paste.
I also changed all the arctic pads with grizly minus 8 pads.
Runing and playing three hours benchmarks, overwatch, farcry new dawn and cod mw.
CPU undervolted -130 cashe -300 core
GPU undervolted and overclocked +205, 793mV @1710 stable.
Results:max core 80C ,temperatures mostly at 70-75C with peaks 78C and sometimes 80C
Uneven heatsink with different core temperatures are still there ffs.
So next time will come to flatten the focking cpu heatsink...

Sorry for the unformatted quote, im on my phone atm.iamlegend999 likes this. -
experienceing coil whining when gpu is maxing out. any fixes for or should be send back manufacturer. when quiet in home en speaker volume down like a chirping bird.

Allright, after several days working on thermals, without LM application, these are my best results so far!
CPU at 4.0ghz and gpu light oc/uv.

As i can see your core#1 (the second one shown) is also the coolest of the bunch. Can you check against a stress test like aida64?
-
Sure, i just made a video with aida 64 10 mins run, with included info of throttlestop+Hwinfo +aida 64.
Enjoy:Last edited: Mar 23, 2020ericxps likes this. -
Those are some nice temps you got there. I dont think you can get all cores to match each others temps. I get more variance between the cores than you do (although I have ran aida64 differently, with whole system under stress so temps get closer to 85-90c anyways, and its with a 8th gen and a 2070MQ). I think it isnt just Lenovos fault for having an uneven heatsink, I mean that I think even the die itself is a bit uneven. So its close to impossible to get perfect, flat contact. But If you get temps around 60 with cpu only stress test and in game 70-75c max, thats awesome!
Do you think that removing the mesh fabric is worth it? I mean removing it means more dust build up right? And what thermal compound did you try before the nanogrease? I have thermal grizzly kryonaut applied now with the thinner thermal pads, and I think the thermalpads did the most for temps. -
What is your window power plan setting and your thermal mode?
I use Speedshift value 128 and mine is stuck on 3Ghz clock speed when gaming
If I use 0-64 speedshift value, cpu clock can reach 4ghz but the temp is very high (90+ degrees C)
And i see you still using old BIOS version? Do you still have the BIOS file?Last edited: Mar 24, 2020 -
Guide for best temps of your Laptop. For sure if you do, you may get better temps than me!
@ everyone who will seriously concerned about his laptop and not about his warranty,
This is a freaking awesome laptop. It just need few tweaks and you are set to enjoy it!!!
Lenovo, Lenovo employees and associated partners, too bad does not care for after sales customization and/or improvements for this amazing laptop. A walk over Lenovo Forums ,their systematic policy to not answer almost any of the threads and topics in there ,even if the thread have almost 20 pages of users requests is enough to understand your position to the freaking world we live in...
In my humble opinion, if you like to improve temps, as i have read this forum pages from page 1 to page 175 almost, almost 20 times seriously.
No.1. Get rid, remove and take off the mesh of the back cover, leave the grill area of its own.
https://imgur.com/fJfXptY
Its an easy task. Take off the screws of the back cover and turn it upside down.
Remove with a screw driver those tiny black plastic dots that keep the mesh to the plastic chassis area of the back cover.
Be careful though,do not touch or dismantle the plastic dots that keep the plastic chassis to the aluminium chassis.
Remember after all ,all you need is to remove the mesh, not to dismantle the two parts, plastic and aluminium chassis should be hold together.
This will give you almost minus 5 - 10 degrees, better cooling of vrms, heat sink thermal distribution and almost on everything inside the laptop.
No.2. Change the thermal pads of the stock heat sink. AND Also get rid of this thermal tape all over the pipes of the Gpu.
First of all, the thermal pads W/MK ratio of the stock heat sink is unknown.
But be aware. You NEED to replace with a quality ones, to degrade them(meaning you have to change the thickness other than the stock thermal pads), and also to be sticky little a bit like chewing gum,in order the unbalanced wrapped heat sink to sit tight-fully in place.
I will explain.
Change the thermal pads according to this photo.
https://imgur.com/NM936eb
Mostly you will need 0.5 mm thermal pads, and less 1 mm thermal pads, 1,5 mm and 2,0 mm.
Artcic Thermal pads are 6.0 w/mk the 0,5 mm is sticky enough, the 1,0 mm,1,5 mm and 2,0 mm are not so sticky, they are hard and you will need to push them down upon application.
Grizly minus 8 thermal pads are great and sticky enough no matter the thikness. They are also come with 8w/mk
Gelid thermal pads 12w/mk are the best so far, i am also waiting to be delivered to me a good amount of different thickness but I've managed to test them and temps were even better than these on my videos by an amount of 2 to 3 degrees of Celsius.
No.3. Change the stock thermal paste with a thermal paste of high viscosity grade , (grade the bigger the better and thicker) important: same paste both on cpu and gpu. Means that you need a thermal paste that is - THICK- hard enough to be split when the heatsink tightened/fastened upon cpu and gpu due to the eneven heatsink we have in all lenovo Y740 masterpieces.
High viscosity thermal pastes are:
Mastegel maker nano with a viscosity grade 4( i used this thermal paste but i get better temps with phobya nano grease extreme, something in the formula of phobya paste works better).
Phobya nano grease extreme with a viscosity grade 4(currently used and the best so far imho).
Gelid Solutions gc extreme with a viscosity grade 6 ( i have ordered and waiting to receive and test, reports are promising better temps with this one).
Prolimatech PK-3 (some users on this forum reported that does the trick on their Y740, i havent tested)
The king among them no 2, should be Arctic Silver 5 with a viscosity grade of 6, it holds the power of silver in it, but i dont trust that they changed the formula and so maybe so is electrical conductive.
The king among them no 1, should be Liquid metal, but with my current temps, and also your temps after these modifications, i do not see any obvious reason to do it.
Bad temps results with pastes i have used.
- Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, NO , NO and once again Hell No.
This paste is not thick enough for our Legion Y740, it can not handle the unbalanced heatsink and also to be noted that will dry up very soon due to its restriction up to 80/85 degrees celcius. Its an AAA+ paste but not in our Legion Y740s.
- Mx-4,same as Kryonaut but i got the worst temps with Mx-4,it splitted all over the cpu and gpu, temps were so bad that almost touched throttling issues.Great paste not for Y740.
No.4 Pick the Best Bios for your Legion Y740.
The best bios so far after endless and i mean endless tests and benchmarks is the Bios with Max Fan Control.
You simply hit Fn+Q and you are set.No more Performance ,Balanced and Quite Mode.
You have the max fans whenever you need them and again whenever you dont need them you disable them.
For me, owner of Lenovo Y740 15IRHg is Bios 1.03. bvcn07ww .
You have to find which is your bios based on your model the bios with max fan control.
Due to different models with different cpus its not the same. but i will discuss how you downgrade your bios.
When you power up your laptop hit F2 multiple times and enter Bios. Find somewhere there and enable to downgrade your bios.
Lets say that you are on bios 1.06/1.09/1.10 when you enable this feature you are able to downgrade and setup your desirable bios - bios 1.03.
For me it was a little bit trickier, as when i installed the bios 1.03 from 1.05 ,1.06,1.09 and 1.10 immediately after i log on to my windows , windows system services prompted me a bios update will be applied upon windows restart.
Systems services check your system and most probably will find a proposed bios for you so every time you downgrade your bios, upon log in to windows you will be forced after windows restart to come back to a later bios.
Solution for this is in the image posted. Do it and get rid of forced bios update after reboot.

No.5 - Epic HOT LESS Keyboard - but it raises the Cpu and Gpu Temps ( Still Testing atm,so keep results in doubt)
Lenovo just did it right to this area of effect, but failed to so many other areas and so you noticed no effect at all .
Keyboard comes hot after play sessions at about 40 to 50 degrees depends on the game.
Correct? Well, NO...
If you flip the laptop upside down you will see that the back cover on top of the mesh have some kind of soft black cloth in the main area and is open only to the fans.
Well this is the desirable distribution of the heat from the main Cpu and Gpu Area.
The fans suck hot air form the middle of the area with cold air directly beneath them upon spinning.
The hot air from cpu and gpu heat sink middle area exhausted upon immediately and only fresh cold air goes and hits the keyboard.
All you have to do is a trick when you remove the heat sink black tape covering the gpu and of-course the mesh.
You can do it and see if this works to your laptop.
With this trick outside of the grill area or even a mod inside will reduce your keyboard temps about 10 degrees even after 3 hours of massive game play
https://imgur.com/fcJR1uX
Now just buy a black tape and put it inside the back cover,in order your precious laptop to be shiny and sexy !
Hope you like the post.It solves so many issues.
Sorry for my bad English type,i am not a native speaker, though i believe you can understand most of them.
Sorry but the post, must be so big....
Kudos me if you like, but truly give your laptop the best temps that deserve!!!
I love mine and most probably i love yours too, and so we must handle to it with care!Last edited: Mar 24, 2020 -
Follow up video with full Aida 64 stress test.
I did take all the laptop apart and covered up the top part of motherboard with 0.5 mm Gelid extreme pads on the cpu and gpu area.
My keyboard is not so hot any more. After two hours of intense gaming COD WZ, max temps on top of the keyboard F4-F5,R-O,C-M row max temps 42 degress.
Aida 64 Max temps 10 minutes stress test.
enjoy. -
Hi, i already successfully installed bios 1.03 but when i hit Fn+Q, nothing happen at all... No max fan option
How can i fix and trigger the max fan?
And mode option is missing on vantage app
Another problem is windows also always update my bios, i already turn off device installation option on system advanced menu.Last edited: Apr 2, 2020 -
Then it seems that you hove trouble like mine.
Solution is really easy.
Install 1.03 Bios and let it boot to your windows 10.
After FIRST BOOT IN WINDOWS do the following:
Right click on My Computer > Manage, or right click on Windows Start Icon > Device Manager, or from Search Engine of Windows 10 write Device Manager and open the app of Device Manager.
Then Click on the Firmware Tab.
You will see there a firmware like: ! Device Firmware
Right Click on that choose uninstall Device.
After uninstall no more update to bios 1.05 will occur.
For your problem wth Fn + Q i have no idea.
Though if you do that way most probably will fix also this issue of yours.Danny Utoyo likes this. -
Thanks for the info, finally i can avoid windows to update the bios to 1.05
And the Fn+Q works flawlessly!
But whenever i do the windows updates, its automatically download and try to reinstall the 1.05 bios again... Is there any tips and tricks to block windows from updating the bios? Or I just manually uninstall from device manager before restarting my laptop after windows update?a1san likes this. -
The best I could without to have everytime to uninstall the device (1.05 firmware) was simple to do a clean install of windows.
Step 1.Preparation.Before fresh install of windows update manually or auto to bios version 1.05.
Step 2. Proceed and do the clean install of windows 10.
Step3. After very first login to a fresh windows copy just disable wifi or not enable it.Then without even install laptop drivers it's the time to downgrade the bios to version 1.03.
After installation of the bios install drivers and also vantage.in vantage go directly to settings and disable to auto update as well auto search of critical updates.
You can disable windows update if you like, but with a clean install and quickly disabled the vantage updates, even with Windows updates, never forced me to update to a newer Lenovo bios.
I believe that windows when you have a newer bios installed, keep files in registry and always force to be updated as mandatory update.
Cheers!Last edited: Apr 2, 2020Danny Utoyo likes this. -
Maybe later i will do that.
The downside of this bios version is i lose control of the tdp of gpu, i cannot change to 80W, it always running at 90W. My GPU is RTX2070 Max-Q version. -
Just wanted to give everyone an update. My legion has not been faring well. I had to send it in for a motherboard replacement a month and half ago, which took till yesterday for me to get it back. Yes, it was at the depot for more then a month waiting for parts. I had a failed bios change which killed the mobo I guess. So I got it back yesterday, played it for a few hours after I got off work. The GPU was running at steady 80-85 degrees along with the CPU which was weird. The display colors were all off. It worked for a few hours then I decided to see how it was performing with 3Dmark and sure enough after 2 and half runs of firestrike the mobo was fried again. I have never opened the machine up except to change the 2.5 harddrive. Never repasted, changed any other parts. Now they want me to send it in again, this will be the 3rd time Iv had to send this model in, first being after few days when I first got it my machine was crashing so they replaced it for me. I dont like this Legion line any more and I just want to get rid of it. There are so many other nice laptops coming out in the next few weeks, I think my only option is to sell what ever they give me this third time on ebay and take a loss on it. Iv actualy only had it in my possession for a month and half or so out of the 6 months I have owned it. Just thought Id share my experience so far with the Legion Y740. RIP Y740, you were great while it lasted but the quality of it from my experience has been horrible. I have never had to send in a machine for repair, this is probably my 20th laptop in the last 25 years.
PS: On a side note, thank god I bought a secondary gaming laptop during black friday last year, the Helios 300. It has been going strong since I bought it with no crashes, no problems what so ever running all the same games I use and software as the Y740. The sad thing is the helios I got on BF for 750$ with all my discounts, which is less then half of what I paid for the Y740. Food for thought.

If you have FN + Q now, that should have been the only way to enable/disable the extra 10W.
Max fan is tied to the 90W TDP on mine. Kinda nice u always get 90 as it doesnt need max fan except for the cpu.
Also I expect it is just the Vantage software forcing the update?
I uninstalled Vantage and have never been prompted to update bios since.
Windows can update freely.
Im on 1.07, I have 8th gen with 2070maxq.Last edited: Apr 4, 2020Danny Utoyo likes this. -
Anyone lose control of GPU power draw? Mine used to draw 90W on performance mode. Now regardless of performance or balanced mode, it will not draw more than 80W which is a huge performance hit. Any ideas?

Tried both latest bios 1.08 and the one before it 1.07Last edited: Apr 9, 2020 -
Ok, the issue is NOT with the laptop, it's with Nvidia. BIOS is irrelevant
The latest Nvidia drivers are likely limiting your performance due to a driver oversight! Please take a look here and offer up your input. We need to get some attention on this issue so that we can get it resolved!

Mine is work perfectly fine.
try to reinstall the nvidia driver but use DDU first. -
Are you getting 90W on GPU? (You can verify with HWinfo64)
If so, what driver version are you on? What BIOS? i7 9750H? Thanks! -
Yes i can get 90W (and more) with performance mode.
I use hotfix version 445.78 and on latest bios version
My VR VCC temp sometimes reach 90+ degrees celcius... Is that normal? How can i lower the VR VCC temp?Last edited by a moderator: Apr 11, 2020 -
Does the new driver include max-q boost in "Manage 3d settings"?
Previous driver that introduced it was buggy, it once unlocked the 90w tdp without enabling max fans, havent been able to reproduce since.
Can you post a pic of the 3d application settings(center-most options)
Also, which hardware you on? 8th gen ot 9th gen cpu??
8th gen on bios 1.07 u gotta press "FN+Q". -
No "Max-Q Boost" in 3D settings on latest driver version (both 445.75 and 445.78)

Hello Y740 owners again after nearly one year.
I still don't regret that i've spent 2000 € to such a great device!
I have tweaked (software) so much on it in one year that i runs now like charm and as i want.
Why i came back to you guys is the same reason i have registered and posted a review and many other things here in this forum.
I still complain the characteristics of the fan noise.
I nearly watched every video on youtube regarding laptop fan noises and surely the videos about our loved Y740 as well.
I just need your assistance guys to tell me if i have 2 out of the box not normal fans in my particular machine or if all Y740 fans sounds like mine.
It sounds like a high pitched jet engine like i wrote 11 months ago.
If i could get the fans be loud but with a deep airflow characteristic sound i would fell more in love with it as i am now.
I have uploaded two files for you i think you can easily hear what i mean.
This is while browsing: https://voca.ro/iof4Rfd0U7u
Careful: This is going to be much louder till the end when the fan is reaching 80% of it speed: https://voca.ro/sj5q55fM2ae
Both fans are making the same kind of noise.
In total as i said before the machine is super silent if you tweak it correctly in most operations but the characteristic of the fan noise is still changing my smiling face into a sad face when i use it day per day.
Additional:
I had some bluescreens in this year (all cause of undervolted to far in CPU cache). After every bluescreen the Y740 do not find my NVME SSD anymore.
(No SSD in BIOS visable).
It schocks me everytime it happens again and again. Just 1 hour of removing the power supply and holding the power button for 1 min brings it back to life.
It also happens everytime when i update some deep chip firmwares like everytime Lenovo releases a BIOS update or a Intel Management Engine update firmware.
My second question is, have you ever had such a phenomenon like me, too ?
I hope you all are still quite happy with your Y740 and im looking forward to have some nice discussions about it with you again.
Best regards,
Itzap -
Just want to make a simple and short poll here.
How many wattage do you set on PL1 and PL2 for DAILY USE (Not for benchmarking purpose)? -
My laptop has frozen from too far undervolt cache also.
But i have never lost nvme or anything like that.
Just reboot for me and everything ok.
PL1 / PL2 I have disabled via throttlestop.
I almost never run up to 45W CPU anyways in my games.
(COD/APEX/OW)
Setting PL1 / PL2 Higher via throttlestop doesnt seem to work anyways.
(8th gen 2070mq) -
How do you know that your throttlestop settings (uv and tpl) are ignored?
Test the PL with TSBench -
Cpu package power maxes at 59.673W.
Used TS Bench:
Priority - Normal
Threads - 12
Size - 1024M
Score - 96.751
Highest temp on any core - 89C
I can adjust the power lower with throttlestop, but higher numbers then default seem to have no effect.
Under gpu load the cpu has to drop to 45W too.
Testing to get around this via bios options... -
Seems pretty normal to me... your TSBench just draw needed wattage, 4Ghz (I guess) with 60W.
Have you tried with cinebench R20? its more watt hungry apps to test how many wattage do you need to maintain your clock at full speed. -
Hello guys,
PL1 and PL2 are always activatd in my machine. Throttlestop settings of the wattage of each tubro boost short and long is working perfectly for me.
I have maxed them out how much my system can give the processor.
If UV is 125 / 125 for example it goes to 3.9 Ghz on all cores multi with around 65 watt before its power limit throtteling.
The system is getting to hot with this thats why my UV settings are 270 vcore / 140 cache. Then my CPU is pulling around 55-58 watt from my PSU.
Please help me guys with my fan noise paranoia.
Cause of these pandemic times and home office i use my Y740 around 12 hours a day in comparison of 1-2 hours if i go to work normally.
So my old fan noise "case" is coming over me again.
I need your help as i need to decide if i RMA my laptop or if new heatsinks with new fans will do this aircraft engine noise as well.
I found these days another youtube video in this one the reviewer said the fan noise is super flat / deep it sounds totally not like a jet engine and its absolutly not annoying.
I opened the laptop and disconnected each fan just to hear the fans one by one. Both are producing this noise so for me i think its normal.
But it drives me still crazy that reviewers are saying the fan noise is pleasent, silent, not annyoing.
So i don't know did i get a unit with two bad fans, or is it just normal?
That's why i need your help, no lenovo supporter would ever give me a clear answer.
Pardon me if i come back with this case not for the first time in this thread.
Thank you!
-
My fan even run at highest speed is not loud at all. I must agree with the "reviewer".
For comparison, I also use vacuum fan and my vacuum is a lot louder than my laptop's fan. -
Thank you.
Does they sound like mine? Like a jet starting their engines?
Please take headphones and listen to my samples, carefull when you listen to the second sample the fans are running at 80% of it's speed at the end.
Overall yes indeed its a quiet laptop for a gaming device, but the type of the fan sound is kind of annyoing.
A laptop fan can sound like a whistle, like a jet engine, like a motor of a brushless quadrocopter or just making a windy whooosh sound which is totally okay for me.
At full blast you almost can't hear what i mean, you can hear it when you set the fan profile to performance (in this profile they are nearly always running) or when they ramp up, like in my second sample.Last edited: Apr 16, 2020 -
The new driver (445.87 release Apr 15) has FIXED the issue; GPU is now running at the full 90W
Out of curiosity, do you guys install GFE along with your nvidia drivers? I used to but stopped once they started requiring a log in.Kalen likes this. -
Damn!!! No 17incher option, and bigger power juice for the AMD option!!!
Lenovo is too... conservative on AMD configurations!!! I'm jumping to another boat! -
I never install GFE anymore.
I feel it impacts performance.
BTW, Call of duty MW I cant get full screen on my 2560x1080 at 75Hz(OC)
Have to use boarderless window!!
Any help? -
Agreed, I never use GFE also because IMO it just make worse the game performance itself, for example : RDR2 and Division 2.
Its better if I manually set in the in game graphic settings.Kalen likes this. -
I noticed a huge performance hit when GFE was installed. It ran a hit at about 15% CPU processes in task manager so I got rid of it pretty quickly.

Do you mind to enlighten us with your vacuum fan? How do you find temps with and without? Does it make any difference on heat distribution? And if so better temps can you name it by numbers eg 2-3 C reduction?

Forget vacuum fan... It makes no difference in Y740... I think vacuum (and laptop cooling pad also included) only works and give a huge difference when used on non gaming laptop or laptop with bad thermal design or extremely weak internal fan.Last edited: Apr 20, 2020 -
I pulled off the metal mesh of the air vents and removed the black insulating tape.
Now my laptop cooler can blow right on the die of the cpu and the heat pipes between the cpu/gpu.
Now with max fans on laptop and cooler at max and throttlestop core -275 cache -150
I dont get to 94C anymore!!
Usually in 50-60's with quick spikes to high 80's.
Maybe a single core to 91c once or twice for a split second.
But my games arent the end all be all of cpu benchmarks:

I really want to do the same, but I'm affraid it makes the internal more dirty because of dust.
Wow thats a fantastic uv number on your core, I cant get over -150mv on my cpu core. -
It will likely get dirtier faster but now you dont need to take it apart to get a dust can in there.
I have done -300 on the core without issues and havent tried further, not sure there is much point past a certain number, the cpu will still pull 1.1V here and there.
So I just leave it at -275 assuming its more stable.Danny Utoyo likes this. -
Can you explain me please how did you removed the black dots holding the metal mesh? and why is the reason of removing the black tape on the gpu heatpipe?
