When you start making claims about losing warranty and no CRUs in the future, can you at least provide a citation.
According to the system service parts page on Lenovo:
The Digitizer Pen and TrackPoint cap are both self-service CRUs, additionally the HDD or SSD is an Optional Service CRU, meaning it is hidden under a panel with several screws and the user can elect to perform the service or have an authorized technician do so.
System Service Parts - ThinkPad S1 Yoga
As far as dimensions are concerned, the service manual states that both 7mm and 9mm drives are supported. Many SSDs seem to be 7mm, so that is what I would likely replace with.

Sorry,
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/s1_yoga_hmm_en_sp40A26742.pdf
Here on page 55 its not user replaceable. So maybe updated the last days. Important to me seems that the M.2 is still no CRU, so you can put in a bigger M.2 SSD and have a big HDD, probably the solution most want considering prices for > 256 SSDs. What is certified service provider? Many shops in europe offer upgradeable harddisk/SSD options anyway in their shops for the Yoga, but if this CRU charta keeps now stable, this will mean they are not authorized to offer it for instance with a 80 GB M.2 and HDD... Would be good to know when this CRU charta is in the final state... -
I know that everybody is concerned about the screen issue. But can any owner talk a little bit about the battery? I went over all the thread and I haven't seen anyone commenting on how many hours the battery lasts.
-
Sorry, I didn't mean to be overly aggressive. Clearly there is a lot of mixed and inconsistent information floating about. I just think it is beneficial to know where the source of everything is. Especially when it concerns warranty voiding.zendokan likes this.

but I had another issue too
Just waiting for 4600 in UK before reordering now

Hello
Almost the same exept that i cancelled my order after being informed on the digitilizer pbm.
Do you have any information on when the 4600u configs will be avalable in europe ? -
I wish I did, the best I've had so far is the following when I enquired on the Lenovo UK twiter
Very helpful hey.
Was hoping to get this before Christmas, but now it is looking doubtful. May mean having to dust off my old 17" behemoth to take away with me

TPY's pen accuracy anyone? Im dying to know if it's on par!
-
On par with what?
-
If you have a specific test you'd like someone to do and can provide details as to how to quantify accuracy then I'm sure it would be done.
When I was using mine before returning it, aside from the spot at the top right, the pen felt pretty accurate. When the pen was at a silly angle it was occaisionally a bit out as it seemed to relate to a point a few mm up the tip, but I don't know if this is normal for digitizers as I've never used one before. When held up to about 45 degrees it felt fine, wrote fine etc. -
Oh im sorry. I meant on par with the latest devices with reputable pen accuracy, like the surface pro.
Ive read that the surface pro had better accuracy then old gen digitizer models, so I could assume the TPY would be at the same level as the SP, but you never know right.
Im however not sure how to perform such tests. I guess we'd need to compare them side by side.
That seems just like the SP! -
Is i7 4600u really going to make much difference over 4500u? What's the point of spending around £100 extra, if at all it is available in Europe? I don't think it offers good performance per pound value.
-
I use virtual machines for various things, and it'd be nice to have the virtualisation features that aren't supported by the 4500 but are by the vPro ones (such as the 4600)
If it's a matter of waiting another week or two I'd prefer the 4600 -
This is the only video I think I've seen showing the digitizer in action. This video uses another digitizer pen but the response time looks awesome. To me it looks no different than if he wrote that signature with a real pen.
-
The display is much better than the X220? Is your X220 IPS or TN?
-
Does the $1,299 model come with the digitizer? In the specs, the base model says FHD and pen? I thought the pen had to be purchased separately:
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptop...m2927X594702Xa47459650bc943631ddeae1ef69066df -
If you are referring to the base model on the Lenovo website, YES. As of current, all the models on the Lenovo website come with a digitizer and pen. The confusion stems from some people believing that all the FHD models have an active digitizer, which is not the case. It also doesn't help that the descriptions are not clear as to whether the model comes with or without an active digitizer. The model 20CD0033US and 20CD0032US being sold in stores like Fry's, Newegg, Amazon etc. all have FHD panels, but no digitizer. So buying a pen separately would be in vain.alanbrenton likes this.

My ship date for an i7 4600u, 8gb ram, 128gb ssd and ac Wi-Fi just got pushed back from the 3rd to the 9th.
-
Do any cases exist for the TPY? For instance the Y2P has this slot-in case.
-
Link please?
-
From the lenovo website during order, the recommended cases were a sleeve for 13 inch with zipper, not the slot-in case style for the yoga 11 or 13, and a bag that would accomodate a 15.4 inch laptop.

Just got mine - 20CD0001IV (i7, 8GB, 256GB, digitizer)
So far I'm really disappointed with Lenovo's QC:
- The digitizer black hole issue is present, but that's expected. However, the digitizer accuracy is pretty bad in other parts of the screen t0o.
- The display has a yellow stain at the top left corner
- The display panel cover glass is not flush with the cover at the top left corner
- There is no audio from the speakers (headphones work)
- The trackpad/point has gone crazy on me a couple of times already switching directions by 90 degrees (although that might be a windows issue)
My last Thinkpad was T400 and then we switched to Dell, so it's disappointing to see how quality has come down. Perhaps I should have went with XPS12...
General impressions:
- The size is nice, but this thing feels heavy - not sure why actually, an old VOSTRO V13 I had lying around feels lighter although they are the same weight on scales and almost the same size.
- The look is nice too, although maybe a bit too minimalistic for my taste (they could have at least kept some indicator lights)
- The keyboard is great, I'd prefer caps lock indicator instead of FN lock, though. Or both.
- The trackpad is a bit annoying - the click travel is way too big for my taste and even if you try to use it in touch-click mode it still moves.
- The screen is nice (except for the yellow stain) and sharp, color reproduction is good and the brightness is decent to use outside in the shade, not enough for direct sunlight, though. The ambient light sensor is unusable, imho, but they never work anyways.
- The hinges are pretty stiff - good if you are using touchscreen in laptop mode, but hard to open with one hand.
- The keyboard locking mechanism is OK, although some keys do move a bit, but that doesn't bother me. What does bother me is the trackpad, which doesn't lock and keeps moving and clicking under your fingers - super annoying, I can only imagine how it feels when the whole kbd is moving. Lenovo - if u r reading this - lock the trackpad too, this shouldn't be too hard.
- This thing runs pretty warm (I have core i7) and the fan exhaust is directly under your hand when in tablet mode - might be a bit uncomfortable.
- Battery life - I haven't done any test, but I haven't seen windows estimate more than 3 hours left at any point - even with full charge. Obviously this is not a reliable measure, but it does provide some indication.
I'll be talking to the supplier to replace my unit with a new one (as this one is clearly defective) - hopefully it'll fair better. Too bad, I had high hopes for TPY. -
Yes, I've ordered the 13-inch sleeve, although when I checked the US site for suitable sleeve using model number, the 12-inch sleeve was recommended, & it's dimensions certainly support that.
-
I'm hoping that the custom to order versions will fare better than these pre configured models are faring.
As for battery life, it will take a few cycles for your battery circuitry to calibrate itself.
On the sleeve front, the dimensions are almost identical to a retina macbook pro 13. Just 1/10th inch wider and deeper, so those sleeves should work well as well. -
Sorry I missed the most important part!

So the YOGAS slot-in case wont fit TPY?

This sounds like a third--rate laptop. What's the return policy for Lenovo? -
I think it will be loose.

I'm sure that's a rare exception, as others have generally been happy with their TPYs. If you're in the UK, here's their return policy:

Anyone tried to get extra special, black-Friday deals when ordering a TPY today?
-
I believe it was IPS but I'm not entirely sure. But the difference is gigantic and I love the high resolution.
-
So you guys think we should get the 13 in sleeve or the 12 in one?
-
I would go with 13 inch Sleeve, the TPY is same kinda size like the MBR and is even a bit thinner!
Called my rep today, told me that i will receive my Yoga tomorrow
Maybe this one will alrdy have the updated firmware... we will see ;-) -
Right, sticking with lenovo's recommendation then!
-
I just got a Samsonite sleeve which fitted quite well. Something like this : Samsonite Classic Sleeves Laptop Sleeve 33.8cm/13.3inch - Samsonite.co.uk (though got it from an outlet store for £8)
-
I am happy cause before 10 minutes i ve got the "the package left our store and is sens to you" mail :-D i am so exited! I hope so much, that it comes tomorrow, but i think it comes next week.
I ll let u know, guys.

They didn't give me a code, or I would have shared. They emailed me a quote with the pricing I listed. I think they know the codes get shared.

If you check your order confirmation email, you may find the code used.

GL all of those that have the issue. It also seems like the file is 256 KB not MB.
-
Great news - please update anyone who has the chance to test the firmware update. Also I see someone has posted a link to Wacom drivers that improve the digitizer sensitivity - anyone who has tested either of these? would be interesting to find out.
Well as there are fixes posted for the 2 key issues I'm concerned about - and as Lenovo have some good discount deals that last for just this weekend then I decided to go for it - placed an order for the i7 model with digitizer and 256GB SSD. -
Where is this link? I wanna try it if i get mine today.
