I'd be very cautious ordering a TPY right now, considering that many of the displays seem to suffer from very bad image retention/watermarking/ghosting. The odds don't really seem in your favor. Hopefully Lenovo will finally acknowledge this problem soon and have a solution, but until they do, I'd hold off. That said, with most laptops, I think the highest likelihood for failure is within the first 6 weeks or so of owning it. Anything out past a year seems much less likely, and I'd be much less interested in a warranty.

I ended up returning it. My next machine needs to last me 3-5 years. While I thought the build quality was decent on the Flip (and it would last 3-5 years) the keyboard was awful. I type a lot and could never imagine typing for 3-5 years on that thing. I couldn't stand it after 10 days. I also had concerns about getting support for that amount of time since the Vaio line has been sold. For me those things were too much to take a chance. I'd rather spend a little bit more money for something more sturdy and has a track record of being (mostly) reliable.

I would prefer to get a Fujitsu t904 over the Thinkpad Yoga, but it's not available yet and out of my price range. I'm without a laptop at the moment. Although, it looks like if I ordered the Thinkpad Yoga today, it wouldn't ship until 2/28/2014. So I'll still be waiting a number of weeks.

This ghosting issue is definitely troublesome. I really need a laptop right now. Maybe I'll keep pinching my pennies and wait it out. I'll keep an eye on this thread and the one over on the Lenovo support forum. It's kind of sad that Lenovo has made no response yet. It's also weird that no one in that thread has claimed to have actually reached out for some kind of support from the admin.

I've just noticed that I have a queak in one of the corners of the screen. If you press it ,it squeaks, bottom right corner of the bezel. Can anything be done about this, I'm sort of thinking I should have just got my first mac instead of this machine. I'm still upset that I can't get higher than 1080p through my 27" monitor because my monitor has hdmi 1.3 even though I got other ports such as dvi-d, dp1.2 and vga and on the monitor/lcd that I have at my gf house the picture looks like real crap on the monitor through the hdmi (maybe because it's a monitor/tv) but words and everything looks pixelated and overscan. On my 27" monitor it looks clear but only 1080p.

Also how do you change the speed of the two finger scroll, after an update mine seems to be on turbo.

I almost never buy extended warranties. I take good care of my things and have never found that I would need to use my warranty for any of my past gadgets. If you want extra peace of mind, then go for it

Even though the problem is the LG IPS panel itself in terms of ghosting, does that mean at every single screen will eventually get this problem? I looked back at the x220 thread and many users had the exact same problem and this was from 2011. What I am getting at is that this isn't going to be fixed ever so is there a chance I might get the Thinkpad Yoga and never see the ghosting issue?

I'm with soul on this one. I figure in the 30 years I've been getting offered extended warranties on everything from toasters to phones to cars to houses if I had saved even half of the money it would have cost me I could have bought a new car with it. just does not make sense in the long run. Yes, occasionally something will break and the cost will hurt, but still cheaper than all the damn warranties.

I have tried WPA-2 as well, but whatever I have tried so far I have had no luck getting my TPY to connect to the router at home. I even went and bought a new router. Asus D-Link AC1750 Dual band.
The only time I have been able to connect to a wireless, was at work. I know they use 802.1x security.
I don't know what to do. I am no expert on this stuff at all. Didn't expect to have so much difficulty with this. Everything else on the machine is perfect. No other problems have occurred, not even ghosting. Just a bit of play on the cursor of the pen. Its not perfect all the way around the screen, but its about 90%+ there. I don't know if any digitizer works perfectly 100%.

Yup. I always remember that companies are in the business to make money, and they know how to design their warranty services where they'd always be making a profit. In the years that I've been purchasing gadgets I can't really think of a single instance where an extended warranty would of really done me good, but I am also not a clumsy person who drops my phone or laptop like it's nothing. Sure we might get unlucky at times and find that we got a lemon or our device dies prematurely, but Lenovo knows the statistics and probability that chances are we won't get our money back on that extended warranty.

    Hi Amirf,
Thanks for the info. This past weekend I took my old laptop and ´experimented´ on upgrading HDD to SDD. You are right, it ended up being much easier than anticipated. I used Macrium free version. So probably next weekend I will take on the TPY. thanks again!

UPDATE: Thinkpad Yoga watermark screen issue - Page 5 - Lenovo Community

Finally, someone from Lenovo have posted on the ghosting issues and are willing to investigate.

Everyone with affected TP Yogas should follow the instructions posted there (also quoted below). Hopefully they can get this sorted out in a timely manner.

Hi, remember me? I'm the guy who had the problem that sometimes after rewakening my laptop from standby mode, the display size was automatically put to small (when actually my PC is set to Normal (middle, between smaller and larger)). Then, a guy proposed me to put it on larger when it occurs and that it wouldn't occur again. But this morning it happened again, which is very annoying.

Do, does anyone of you have a definitive solution to this bug?

    Greetings

I think you misunderstood me. I didn't mean go into control panel and change display size under Desktop mode. I meant while experiencing this error go into the modern interface settings which only has the option of 'larger' or 'default'. The options you mention are only found in Desktop mode Control Panel.

The issue is not desktop mode related, its modern mode related so desktop control panel won't actually affect it.

I uploaded a quick video to show you what to do just to confirm whether you followed my exact steps.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Uh1w2Thxuk

p.s. This only seems to work WHILE EXPERIENCING THE ISSUE. So once stuff goes small, follow the steps in the video and things should be okay from there :) I haven't experienced this bug again sine doing this.

So, I was blaming OneLink pro dock for the mouse problems I've been having - sometimes the mouse cursor would jump to the bottom right area of the screen and sometimes it would also do a left click opening an application from the tray or Date/Time window.
The OneLink docks (both Pro and regular model) have a lot of (known) issues when combined with TPY - there is a long thread about this here - Re: OneLink network port flapping - Page 18 - Lenovo Community, so I have moved my mouse dongle to the TPY itself, but surprisingly this didn't help. However, I have noticed that after this happens the cursor sometimes switches to the dot cursor - as if I was using the digitizer pen, so on a hunch I've disabled the Wacom HID device in the device manager - and vuala - no mouse jumping so far.

The dock is still broken, of course, as I cannot see the Ethernet controller in the device manager and keep getting USB device errors, but at least mouse is working now.

Now I have to find a way to get my digitizer pen working again without breaking the mouse. Perhaps uninstalling the FEEL drivers will help...

I'm on the other side of the fence for this one. I never buy extended warranties for anything, but all my Thinkpads (and I had a lot of them) had 3yr warranty. I should note, that they are business machines (i,e, - I'm buying them for business, not my personal home use) and it's definitely worth it, imho. I'm careful with my laptops, but my old T400 have seen it's fair share of repair labs. Despite being durable and long lasting (I'm talking about T-series here, I have my doubts about the TPY durability) things still break, and wear out. Even if this is just a cooling fan replacement and some summer dust cleaning - it's much more convenient to have a certified lab with all the spare parts and equipment do it instead of doing it yourself (Did you know, that you are supposed to replace some screws with new ones when you open the laptop, because they are nylon-coated and repeated screwing/unscrewing will wear out the coating so they might not hold as well/get lost and even, potentially, short something out?).
I've seen some really good deals for 3yr on-site extended warranties fro TPY, so I'd get one (in fact, I did get one for my TPY)

Just another bump for the watermark/ghosting thread over at the Lenovo forums ( Thinkpad Yoga watermark screen issue - Page 6 - Lenovo Community).
Cleo, an admin, posted, saying that they want to escalate the issue with their investigative engineers. I hope this is the case. Unfortunately, they also mention that they'll most likely need an affected computer, which I unfortunately can't provide, as I'm returning mine this week. Hopefully someone (or multiple people, really) who can no longer return or exchange their computer can start this process so that Lenovo can get their hands on these bad displays and start working on a mass solution.
In the meantime, I'd recommend that people experiencing this problem continue to post about it over there (and here, and everywhere frankly) so that we maintain a presence and some pressure on Lenovo. I'm glad they are finally getting involved, but a single web admin starting an investigation isn't adequate; only once we've got a mass statement and solution should be content.

Has anyone here bought a configured tpy from a third party retailer, and if so, did it come with an nfc chip? I've been on the phone to lenovo and the retailer and noone can give me a definitive answer!

The model is 20CD000MUK...core i5 model. It's an officially assembled model, it's one of 3 models they distribute to retailers (others being the i3 and i7) It does come with dual band wifi and windows 8.1 pro which are both non standard options if you were to assemble on the website which gives me hope that this model IS nfc enabled...

Anyone know? Specifically the UK posters as this model is 1. Obviously a uk model and 2. Quite widely sold. I would just order from Lenovo but 15 days before even shipping is the current eta! This particular retailer has a competitive price and is next day delivery...

    Thanks guys

Thanks for the thoughts on the extended warranty. I've also read that it's possible to purchase the extended warranty at a later date (maybe within the 1st year?).

Anyways, I'm still on the fence about picking one up because of this ghosting issue. My biggest problem is I don't see a suitable alternative except the T904, which is out of my price range. The only other options are used and older tablet pcs.

The one thing that does not work properly with my OneLink pro dock is a Logitech mouse USB wireless dongle. When I connect the dongle to the OneLink Pro dock, the wireless connection cuts in and out. So I always use the wireless dongle on the TPY itself. Everything else works flawlessly. Currently I have a FHD monitor, external dvd drive, laptop cooling pad, external hard drive, Ethernet all connected to the OneLink Pro dock and it has been days since I had a disconnection or any abnormal behavior.

One thing I always do before connecting to the onelink dock is I blow into the connector as well as the port on the TPYoga itself. Since I started doing this, I don't experience any disconnections. I am not sure if this is really the solution, but for days now it has been working for me.

My digitizer pen works very accurately after doing the 273 point calibraiton. I did not install any FEEL drivers, which is not a problem for me because I don't use Adobe Photoshop.

I can't say for sure, but I would say it is highly unlikely. NFC chips are coming out very slowly, and that is something that is usually saved for made to order ThinkPads rather than retail models. Even if it said NFC in the description, I'd still be very skeptical about it. I'd say chances are 80% that it does not include NFC

I wouldn't think this model would come with NFC, I was looking at buying the 20CD000MUK after a few google searches I found 20CD000MUK_FOCBAG which was cheeper for some reason.

Anyway I ended up ordering from Lenovo to a spec I wanted which included NFC.

Over in another thread ( Fujitsu Announces Stylistic t904, Q704, and q584 - Page 49) someone posted this link:

    Fujitsu - T904-VNSNY-01 - Lifebook T904, Core I5-4300u, 13.3wqhd, 4gbx1, 128gb Ssd, Non Wwan, Intel Wlan(abgn), B

which puts a model with 4gb RAM, 128 gb SSD, and i5 4300u at $1,760. It's not official but maybe this will be roughly what prices start at.

Not sure what you're referring to here, but I found a "Realtek PCIE CardReader" under "Memory technology devices" in device manager. The driver is 6.2.9200.21234. Let me know if this is what you are referring to or not.

I didn't do anything special with my drivers. I just installed the latest from Lenovo and windows minus the synaptic drivers.

Just ordered mine. They were saying ships in 2-3 weeks and I had been working with a phone rep who (since I couldn't check out with my configuration on the website, kept giving me an error). He'd been trying since Thursday to enter my order and the system was on hold and wouldn't take my order. Just got off the phone with him and they received a hole shipment of "new parts". His words, not mine. Anyway, the system opened back up to receiving new orders so he entered mine and it will ship in 5-7 days :)

My order shipped 10 days before the estimated delivery date, so perhaps you guys will be lucky enough to get yours sooner as well. You'll receive an e-mail with shipping number when they do end up shipping it out of their warehouse. From their warehouse it usually takes around 5 business days to reach you.

Same here. I bought my TPY with the AC wireless adapter, and I have an AC compatible router, however, it does not work.
What I have read is that Windows 8 does not support WEP, and any of the other securities types are actually not supported by Intel drivers for this adapter. In other words, connection is limited to very specific configurations, but i don't know what they are.

Can anyone help with this? Has anyone got their wireless to work with their router at home?

When the TPY is connected to the OneLink Pro, it shows up in the Device Manager, under Network Adapters. It disappears as soons as the two devices are not physically connected.

Can anyone help with this? Has anyone got their wireless to work with their router at home?

I tried this, except something is still failing. Should I be using 2.4mhz only, or mixed?
What does PSK stand for? I know there is an option for AES. That's the only WPA2 that I can see the TPY supporting.
One of the tests that Windows wireless diagnostics program can check for in order to see if you have proper connection still fails. I have to check which one it was when I get back home.

I'm almost maxed out. Got the FHD w/Digitizer (only way to go). I too wanted the space so I went with the 500GB 7,200RPM/16 GB SSD Hybrid Drive (new option as of today). Lenovo has just about the best HDD shock protection system I've ever seen, so I don't worry. But even so, may upgrade to a full 512GB SSD at some point. Got the i7 and 8GB RAM, Win 8.1 Pro, etc. Got it for a song too. I learned a long time ago how to call into their center and work the price a bit.

I did finally get my order confirmation and unfortunately it says the estimated ship date is 2/28 but he did say that from his screen I can expect it in 8-14 business days. So that's in line with what soul347 was saying about receiving 10 days early. That would be great.

Funny that, because my TPY connects to both my Sky router and my Custom Firmware DD-WRT Buffalo router, both of which are using Wireless N with WPA2 (AES).

It also has no issues connecting to my university system which uses 802.x Corporate style authentication.

I am thinking maybe you guys should try uninstalling the drivers completely, rebooting your system, then reinstall the latest drivers from Lenovo's website. If that still plays up then go to Intel's website and get the latest drivers available for the wireless chip from there as Lenovo might still be using a slightly older version etc.

I'm find the fan noise quite intrusive, can anyone with a TPY try this?

Install a game from app store, solitaire, cut the rope etc.

Start game, on my system the fan then starts up and is quite noisy. CPU however is still less than 10%

Exit the game and the fan remains on, kill the game from start screen, fan stays on. I need to go to desktop task manager and kill the app there for the fan to then go off.

I expect I've go something wrong with power management but can't see anything out of place, any ideas?
