Did you mean that as of today there is still no ghosting or that only today you have started to experience ghosting?

So their online educational store doesn't seem to let me get the 10% discount. Any coupon code on your receipt? (last time i'll ask about your receipt, I promise
)
-
Thanks! Good to know the 4GB RAM should be enough. I don't game much anymore, but out of curiosity, what kind of games have you been able to run on this? I might want to play some older games now and then.
It's too bad the version with the digitizer is $1,099. That's a little higher than I wanted to spend, but this laptop looks very tempting. -
I noticed that too when I was doing a mock checkout online. When I was in the store, it seemed like he was having trouble applying the student discount and even called another guy over to verify a code he was putting in. I think he might have just put in a general discount. My SP2 receipt says "offer disc" while the TPY says just "discount."
Maybe it just isn't updated in their system. Maybe try calling or doing a chat online. -
Hey Everyone,
I've searched around extensively, but haven't come across a solution to my problem, so I thought I would take a chance on posting here. Apologies for the length
My Thinkpad Yoga completely died a few weeks ago. I had walked away from my desk while doing work and when I came back, it was sitting at the Windows 8 boot menu. The menu was still showing my hard drive, but any action I did would send it into a loop of rebooting multiple times before dumping me back into the boot menu again.
I sent it in for a warranty repair and when I got it back, they said they replaced the main board and the hard drive.
Unfortunately, when I started using it, I found two problems with the functioning of the device. They are both more annoying than anything, but it would be nice to fix them without having to wait another two weeks or more for another warranty repair.
Just to preface, I have called support two or three times and no one there has been able to point me in a direction to fix these things. Also, I am fully up to date with the updates in both Windows and the "System Update" software. I also tried to reformat over the weekend to see if that would help, but it didn't.
With that said, my problems are currently:
1) The auto-rotate function no longer works.
I cannot find documentation anywhere about what would control this function or a driver that might be missing. It appears as though there is a specific driver for Windows 7 ( link), but not for Windows 8. I found a thread detailing a similar issue for a Yoga 13 which talks about an "HID Sensor Collection" ( link) but there is no entry for that, or any sort of "Sensor" category in my device manager.
Pressing the rotation lock button while the screen is in the default orientation does nothing. There is no on screen display popup like there is for caps lock or volume control. I can manually rotate the screen using the Ctrl+Alt+Arrow Key shortcuts. Afterwards, if I press the rotation lock button, it will do the animation I remember autorotation having (the screen shrinks, then rotates), and the screen will return to the default rotation.
I'm pretty sure the accelerometer is still functioning because I opened the Thinkvantage Active Protection utility and the picture of the computer rotated when I moved my computer around.
2) The trackpad/trackpoint/keyboard are no longer disabled when the screen is folded back
This is pretty self explanatory. When the screen is folded back, I can still move the mouse around using the trackpad and trackpoint and click on things. This is mostly annoying if I have the computer in tablet mode on my lap and the trackpad accidentally gets pressed and clicks on something.
I would have assumed this function was taken care of by the Lenovo Transition software, but apparently not. I'm pretty sure Transitions is still working because the soft keyboard will pop up when I go into tablet mode and I have been typing.
Again, apologies for the long post, but I wasn't sure where else would be appropriate to post this to ask for help. -
Chatted with them, then had to call. At least got NBD out of them for the inconvenience. Which means that this baby is arriving sooner than my Lenovo-ordered one. They offered me 75$ off accessories, ... hm, anybody in the market for an i5-4200/8GB/128SSD? or can i take their free accessories and just send it back? Actually I should check both of them for ghosting and then decide, I presume. So how do I find out the manufacturing date of my display(s)?
-
While the first issue might in theory be software related the 2nd one is almost definitely HW - the keyboard/trackpad is disabled in hardware (my guess is it's a mechanical switch that signals BIOS to disable the input), so I'd try reflashing the BIOS first and if it doesn't help (probably won't, but doesn't hurt to try) you'll have to send it in for service. If you are comfortable taking it apart you might try to poke around inside and see if there are disconnected/poorly fitted cables somewhere, but personally I wouldn't bother and just send it in for repair.
Also, people here have suggested finding a nearby authorized service center and taking it there yourself - apparently it can significantly speed up the process. -
Guys, could somebody with a TPY do me a favour and give me the info stored in this registry key.

I tried out a couple of altered versions and I don't think they work so well for the TPY but I forgot to make a backup

@Ground_state did you let the device update when you got it back. Screen rotation is a function of the graphics driver. My M80A tablet came from the MS Store without the update that enabled rotation. I had to update before it worked.
-
Thanks! Your a lifesaver!
-
@Bronsky
Yes. I ran all of the updates when I got the machine back. The screen can still rotate, I just have to do it manually instead of it rotating when the machine is tipped over on its side. -
Hello Everyone,
I just have one question with the wifi card, I want to know do anyone know where can I get a Intel 7260AC card that work with this laptop, the BIOS whitelist is super annoying. I installed one from Newegg but I got the lock message. I've searched around this thread and the only one successfully change it was christoman with a card from M.FACTORS ( 7260HMWG Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11ac, Dual Band, 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0* - M-FACTORS Storage) The card look exactly the same as the one I got from Newegg, so I am not sure. I also got one from ebay with FRU 04W3813, I can boot to desktop but I cannot get the bluetooth working no matter which drive I install. I try all the bluetooth driver from Intel/Lenovo.
Can some one give me some input on where can I get a Thinkpad 7260AC card or will the M.FACTORS one work? -
To all OneLink Dock users:
An official bios update has been released that should resolve Ethernet/USB disconnection issues when using the dock. The update can be found here:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/gquj09ww.exe
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just flashed the bios and my initial assessment is that everything is working solid.
Connected to my OneLink Pro dock is:
-External dvd player
-Seagate 500GB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive
-Laptop cooling pad
-1080p External monitor via DVI
-Ethernet
I did all these tasks simultaneously:
-Transfer several gigs of files to my external hard drive
-Play a dvd video on the main screen via external dvd drive
-Play a 4K video at full resolution on YouTube on the external monitor (audio coming from main laptop speakers)
-Power on laptop cooling pad
-Disable wifi and solely use Ethernet
While doing all these things at once, there was not a single hiccup or disconnection with my USB devices or the Ethernet. Should there ever be a single hiccup with Ethernet or USB, I'll report here. I'd also like to report that there are no problems/unrecognized devices in my device manager.
One observation is my mouse still doesn't work consistently when plugging in the wireless dongle to the OneLink dock, showing that for some strange reason it can't maintain a consistent connection. All other USB devices work consistently without interruption.godofwar424 and jcil4ever like this. -
I have the same problem with my wireless mouse (and keyboard, to some extent). Appears as though it's most likely due to the well-documented interference created by USB3, which happens to coincide with 2.4GHz wireless devices. You can find a fair bit of info on this, even an Intel whitepaper discussing a bunch of research they did on the topic; unless the USB3 devices/ports/etc. are sufficiently shielded or until wireless devices move to a different band (e.g. 5.2GHz), it will likely always be a problem. My wireless mouse/keyboard (Logitech via Unified Receiver) works better when the receiver is directly plugged into the laptop than when on the OneLink, so could be a difference of shielding. What's worked for me is to move the receiver away from the dock using a USB2 extension cable. It's about 1.5 feet away now and seems to work fine, no erratic behavior.
soul347 likes this. -
Sounds quite interesting. I'll try using an extension as well to see if that helps. When I put the wireless receiver in the laptop itself I experience zero problems. When I put the reciever in a USB 2.0 port on the one link pro dock, I get the erratic behavior. I also tried putting the dongle on the front USB 3.0 port on the dock, and it didn't work at all. Not really sure what's the issue. At any case, I don't mind putting the dongle on the laptop itself, but I'd prefer to put it on the dock since I only use the mouse when I am at home.
-
Yeah, exactly the same thing I was seeing. Took me a while to figure it out, and thought it was the OneLink issue (I don't use the ethernet connection, so I didn't quite have any direct indication), but after a lot of Googling I started finding info about the USB3 issue. Apparently it's a matter of proximity to an active USB3 port (flash drive, ethernet adapter, whatever). Not sure if the mouse/keyboard receiver counts there, but could just be that the laptop itself has good shielding. The extra cable is a bit of annoyance, but if it makes me mouse sit still and my keyboard deliver every key press, then I'll certainly (mostly happily) live with it.

Hi everyone!
I ordered my TPY a few days ago and my anticipation is killing me. I can't wait to get back to work on my art projects!
I'm aware of the image retention issues on the screen, but since nothing else on the market does everything I want, I've decided to take my chances. That said, what are the odds of encountering this issue on the newer batches?
Also, can anyone recommend a good carrying case for the TPY? I'd like something plain and slender, nothing fancy. Preferably something I could toss in a backpack, and preferably something with a pocket for a stylus and nibs.
Here are the specs of the system I ordered, custom built from Lenovo:
Model number: 20CDCTO1WW ThinkPad S1 Yoga
Total memory 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3L on MB
Hard drive 128GB Solid State Drive SATA3
WiFi wireless LAN adapters Intel 7260 BT_ACBGN
Preload OS Windows 8.1 64
Processor Intel Core i7-4500U on MB

I agree with you that there is nothing else like it for the cost. However, for now a while now the main IR thread over on the Lenovo forum has gone completely silent by the people who stated they were looking into it. I think the problem is still there and will be there for every computer although each will worsen at different rates. I don't think I would feel too good though about spending over a thousand dollars on a laptop only to have it be unusable after 6 months to a year. It's been very tempting all week to not order it from the Microsoft Store as I really want the laptop. The lack of responses and the fact that they need to "investigate" now for three weeks is absurd. Seriously, it's the panel, what else is there to investigate? If they literally came back into the thread on there and stated that they will support replacement for IR out of warranty, I would actually buy it. -
At this point I wouldn't worry too much about the image retention issue. You've already taken the plunge, so its just a matter of chance. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about looking for it. If it comes, then it comes, if it doesn't then it doesn't. I'm happy to report after 2 months I see no signs of ghosting whatsoever. Even if it did show up, I wouldn't be bothered too much, but that's just me I guess.
In regards to a carrying case, I've found that it fits most 13" laptop carrying cases/sleeves. Even though it has a 12.5" screen, the body fits almost perfectly for the 13" ultrabook cases. My suggestion is to simply go to your local bestbuy, target, etc. when you have your machine and fit them into the one that you like. IF you want a bag that fits the laptop + power cord and a whole boat load of accesories, I suggest the "Case Logic Atache 14 inch." It fits almost perfectly, and the accessories all fit along with papers and such without bulging out. It maintains a slim profile. For its price, it cannot be beat.godofwar424, thewish and KrisWood like this. -
Hi, does anyone else has had a problem with hdmi output? I got my thinkpad yoga couple of months ago and I used it with a cheap hdmi to mini hdmi converter to connect to my AOC display, but after some time it just stopped working and Im not sure if its software problem or hardware. Tried getting on ebay a hdmi to mini hdmi cable so i dont have to use converter but it didnt work either. Does anyone know how to deal with this because without hdmi it pretty bad when I wanna work on bigger projects.
-
I just tried using the extension cable to connect the wireless dongle to the dock, and my wireless mouse works perfectly now, so you're theory is indeed correct. Thanks for the tip!
-
My hdmi mini works properly, but I notice the cheap hdmi to mini hdmi adapter I bought from china has a shorter male point, making the connection more loose and less reliable. So I have to play around with it and keep it still in order to maintain connection. Try playing around with it to see if the monitor will at least connect. If after doing this it doesn't work at all, then maybe you have a fried mini hdmi port, and you'll have to send it in for warranty, which is quite a pain.
Here in this picture you can see the difference between the length of the cheap mini hdmi adapter I bought from china and my other more reliable adapter. In fact I bought 6 of those cheap ones from china, and one of them doesn't work at all unless I really fiddle around with it, but as soon as I let go, the connection is lost.wilkster likes this. -
Good, glad to hear. I know I saw a few people reporting such issues in the Lenovo "network flapping" forum, so odds are this was their problem (completely separate than the ethernet issue). Clearly Lenovo completely dropped the ball on properly shielding the OneLink.
-
At first it started glitching(losing connection sometimes) so I had to move it around but after that it just stopped working at all. How could I check if my hdmi then is fried? Because I bought my laptop in different country that Im now and Im not going back for some time so any fixes that involve not sending for warranty would be better.
And the converter was a bit flimsy at the start.
Does the fix that involves removing bit of rubber of the end of hdmi connector would work? im gonna try that today with my other cable that I got later and didnt work at all. -
I think you need FRU 04X6010 according to the FRU listing?

I got Amazon.com: Belkin B2b064-c00 13-Inch Sleeve Laptop/Chromebook - Black (B2B064-C00): Computers & Accessories and love it. The first couple times using it, it was a little snug (had to pull the zippers over the last corner to get it to zip closed) but it got better over time and now fits like a glove. It has a pocket that can hold the power adapter or a mouse but really is more meant for dongles/stylus'/etc. It also has a small handle that pulls out of the long side which makes it real convenient to carry. It has a bad review but thats just from someone with a computer that didn't fit. I bought it maybe 2 months ago and still am happy.
-
I'd rather not try removing a bit of the rubber as that might create some risks. If I were you, I'd try to find a better quality adapter in store with a longer male insert. You can also find some online. If even then you can't get it to work at all no matter how you try to move it around, then I'd guess it's not working anymore. There is a slight chance it would be software related, in which a complete factory reset might fix it, but this would be my last resort.
-
Wow, 144USD, that is a bit too much for me. I will take it if it is around $60-80.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion, I guess I can try one more from ebay, after all, the first one just have Bluetooth problem, I can POST and wifi worked, maybe I got a bad one. -
I had my system board replaced as well, as a result of taking my laptop in after having a battery issue (back a few pages), and I don't often open it up in tablet mode so I hadn't tried it until yesterday. I have the exact same problem. When I flip the screen back, the lift-and-lock keys work, but the lights on the keyboard are still on and the trackpad is functional.
The screen also doesn't auto rotate either for me, no matter what the rotation lock setting is at. Using the ctrl-alt-arrow works, but if I accidentally hit the windows key next to the monitor, it goes back into the "normal" landscape mode as if I were using the laptop as a laptop.
I hesitate to take it back to the place that services lenovos around me, as both times I've gone there have been bad experiences. Maybe I'll try the in home service so I'm not without my computer for all that time. -
So this is kind of strange... Has anyone else noticed the ThinkPad OneLink Dock Management process using up a lot of memory? Right now mine is sitting on 1.6 GB (actual committed from what I can tell). I find this especially strange since I haven't been connected to my dock in over 36 hours. I saw this behavior before the BIOS fix, as well, both while connected and not... thought it might be a side effect of the dock connection problem, but apparently not. Haven't paid close enough attention to see if there is something in particular that triggers the growth, or if it's gradual, but I do know that even a couple hours after a reboot while actually on the dock it'll only be sitting on maybe 10% of this amount. Not sure if it's actually a sign of something wrong or normal behavior (like it'll release the memory if another process needs it), but in either case I can't see why it'd need to have so much memory reserved. Any thoughts?
I will note, on the off-chance that it's just my own computer that is the problem, I am still waiting for repairs for my throttle-stuck CPU (it's a number of forum pages back now... my i5-4300 is permanently stuck at 0.75GHz) due to a back-ordered mainboard. I think at this point I'm entitled for just a straight-up replacement, if possible (or heck, an upgrade), especially given I upgraded my warranty. -
If you have the in call service that do it! Its much better to have an engineer come to you and do the work in front of you.

Hey guys,
I plan on putting Intel DC S3500 600GB SSD into Thinkpad Yoga. Does anyone have real-life experience with this SSD (DC S3500 series) and Thinkpad Yoga? Please dont comment/recommend other SSDs I dont care about.
Thanx -
Definitely something wrong. I've never noticed mine use up a lot of resources. I just checked my task manager and the dock management is using up 1.9mb of member and 0% of my processor. Mind you, this is with a lot of stuff connected to my dock. What do you have connected to your dock? I would try removing everything, and see if that changes anything, then slowly add different things to it to see if there is a device causing the problem.
-
Well, as I mentioned, right now I'm not even connected to my dock (and haven't been for about 48 hours). Still sitting at a little over 1.6 GB after sleeping overnight, too. All I've got on my dock is my monitor, my wireless mouse/keyboard receiver (one the USB extension cable), an external hard drive, and a local ethernet connection to my desktop computer for occasional direct RDP usage. Not a ton, and all but the first two tend to sit fairly idle.
Oh well, considering the other issues I've got with my system that already point to either bad hardware or a bad OS image, I suppose this falls in line. Good to know that it's at least unusual, which better supports my case. -
Well after some good reading all of the pages in the forum and waiting for the ghosting issue to be fixed I have decided to wait no longer and roll the dice. So earlier this week I purchased the TPY from the online MS Store, but I realized within three hours I purchased the wrong laptop. There were two TPY laptops with seemingly the space specs for $999 and $1099. I even used live chat and the sales rep said there were no difference them except one was on sale and the other was not. Both had 1080P with touch, but only one had the digitizer pen which was stated in easily missed small letters at the bottom. I really wanted the one with the pen so I could do some note taking and drawing. Unfortunately, the laptop has already shipped and I need to wait several days for it to get to my home and then refuse delivery and wait some more for the balance to be returned to my credit card. Blah.
I really want the one with 256GB and 8GB Memory (the faster i7 CPU would not impact my use very much), but MS Store online does not seem to carry it in the past week or so. I even went to the brick and mortar MS Store In Indianapolis, IN (which is new in the past 6 months) to see if they have the 8GB/256GB in the store, but all they had was the 4GB/128GB and could not order anything bigger. I am thinking I can live with the 4GB memory and upgrade the SSD drive myself in the future. I have seen good instructions by helpful users in this forum on how to do it, but I have some concerns with voiding the warranty. I was considering buying the laptop directly from Lenovo.com but they are charging a base price of $300 more or $230 more with my student discount for the same spec laptop.
In either case I was also going to purchase the extended warranty has protection against the ghosting issue. MS Store has their Microsoft Complete 2 year warranty for $199 and Lenovo with my student discount has 2yr onsite + accidental for $206. The Lenovo warranty is bit nicer since it’s on-site. I will not have to drive 45 minutes to the MS Store and can have the tech come to my home or work. My biggest question is will the MS Store ever carry the i7/8GB/256 SSD with digitizer pen? Or will Lenovo has some amazing sale/discount to bring their prices in line with the MS store prices? -
You already missed the best sales that Lenovo had on the ThinkPad Yoga.
You can wait until next year when a similar discount comes back again though. -
It's quite hard for anyone here answer that question apart from speculation, but I'd say the TPY will definitely have some discounts on the Lenovo website in the coming months since it has already been out for a while. Lenovo normally does that. In fact they offered a 12% discount a few weeks back. In my experience with the MS Store, they merely discontinue products and bring new ones in or they just try to sell old stock without really reducing the price. Will the MS store carry the i7/8gb/256? Probably not. They usually only have limited models to choose from. If I were you, I'd probably try to get a good deal on machine with 8gb, then upgrade the HDD/SSD to a larger capacity one. I saved a good amount of money by putting a 500GB Samsung 840 Evo in myself.
-
Highly doubt you'll have to wait until 2015. I'd guess the upcoming months will yield some good discountsgodofwar424 likes this.

I recommend signing up for their advertising email and waiting until the TPY is included, that's what I did. I ordered my i7/8gb/128gb ssd/FHD + pen for 12% off at $1440 last weekend during the St Patrick's day sale. If they'll give a sale for that I'm guessing they'll give one for Easter and memorial day, too. It seems like there's always something on sale, just a matter of time til it's the TPY again.

12% is a small step up from the typical 10% off which is pretty much normal with something like Barnes and Nobles gold every day of the week.
I wouldn't buy a Yoga if I only got 12% off.
The discounts on the 500 GB HDD and 8 GB upgrades are gone and I doubt they will put them back since I called customer service when I noticed they were taken off.
Keep in mind that some people got better discounts than what I'm showing below.Attached Files:

Soul347 Thanks for the insights on the MS Store. I saw several pages back that users purchased HDD and upgraded to SDD for a big savings. Sadly, I dont know if Lenovo will have the HDD back in their online store.

Mine arrived last week and I really can't fault it, wonderful bit of kit. Only thing is mine shipped with a "stuck" pixel (Stuck is where I think it's just a pixel stuck on a different colour, on mine it's blue)...
I've attached a photo
Did anyone else's ship with stuck pixels and what's Lenovo's general policy? Could I just send it back for different reasons i.e. I just don't want the laptop anymore. It's not a massive deal but when you spend over £1,200 on equipment you expect it to at least be in perfect condition....more annoying than anything else...
P.s. Anyone ever tried one of the youtube videos that apparently remove stuck pixels?? If I can do it myself then even better!
Thanks guys -
Thanks Zero00!!!! Your link saves me about 10% once I signed up with my .edu email address. Also that deal you got looks pretty sweet. Too bad the HDD configurations as you are said are gone.
I was browsing Browse Discount Laptops & Laptops for Students - K-12 & College | Lenovo | (US) which only showed a saving of about 5%. If there is a sale in the next month I will use your link instead to stack with the student discount.. -
Hey guys,
I just got my Thinkpad Yoga on Friday, and must say I'm very happy with it!
One small problem I am having though is the pen input intermittently not responding correctly to being touched to the screen.
To try and explain it better: The problem would occur while I was drawing in Inkscape/GIMP. I would be drawing, and after what seemed a random number of strokes (it never stopped working mid-stroke), when I would touch the pen to the screen again, it would not register the touch correctly but the cursor would still move. In Inkscape it just wouldn't draw, and in GIMP the tool would flicker rapidly between the current tool and the tool selected for touch input (as if it was getting confused between the input being pen or touch)
I thought it was a software thing until I noticed a super thin scratch in the matte layer (very hard to see unless looking very closely). Upon testing, it seems the pen input only mucks up after passing over that scratch.
Google tells me a few people have had issues with their pen scratching the matte layer, has anyone else had scratches interfering with their pen input?
EDIT: A couple other small details - the issue seems to occur if the pen is lifted from the screen in the vicinity of the scratch, not just passing by over the scratch -
I have a light scratch on mine from the pen as well. Kind of irritating, but at least it's the matte layer and not the actual glass.
Edit: because it's a removeable matte layer -
You can always wait a couple of weeks for the ghosting to show up and then have them replace the panel ;-)
-
I had the same problem - high CPU usage and memory footprint. I've just killed the process and then ended up uninstalling the OneLink package completely. There might be some newer drivers in the package, but I haven't felt any difference, as for the process itself - it's an app that sits in the tray and shows you when OneLink dock is connected (duh) and provides a couple of shortcuts to system settings. Or, in other words - useless piece of bloatware that does not provide any real functionality.
