When I needed my keyboard replaced, they said they could send someone out in a week and a half. I decided to just bring it to them that day; which then took them a week and a half to do the service...unless I paid $30 for same day "expedited service" which I view as a kind of extortion. In hindsight, it would have been better to do the in call service as I would have at least had the laptop.
I had a similar issue with my system board replacement, except it was 3 weeks they had my machine. I complained to lenovo, but this is the only authorized service place for 50 miles.

Try resetting any calibration information for pen and touch to see if that helps the situation at all. If it doesn't, you may have a faulty Wacom panel. By the way a scratch in the matte finish shouldn't mean anything as it is only a screen protector, unless something scratched deep on to the glass itself, but I'm sure it would be noticeable if that were the case
-
Could someone with image-retention on their TPY (mild or severe) please post a video of it? I would really like to see the extent of how it appears. I would really like to buy a Panasonic MX3 (import from Japan) but it probably uses the same 12.5" 1920x1080 LG panel, so I'm worried about the IR and wondering how it typically manifests. Thanks!
-
Does that work? Or will I just get another panel that shows ghosting after a while?
Also, is there a panel version known to work? Could someone who doesn't experience ghosting post the model number of their panel? It would be nice if it's possible to request a specific model as a replacement. -
Even though all the AH-IPS panels used are the same model (no new model was sighted for the Yoga yet) , they all don't exhibit the same ghosting or image retention issues. One panel could seem fine while another could have a noticeable image retention problem that could easily be noticed.
BTW , Lenovo isn't Apple.
When the MacBook Pro Retina first came out , a lot of people had image retention issues. Some of them got their AH-IPS panel replaced by a PLS panel instead but that's because Apple uses LG and Samsung panels and not just LG panels for the MacBook Pro Retina ( original 15" at least). -
Besides it is not sure if and when it will occur (in the worst case it's only a question of the letter). On my xps12 (same problem) it started only after six months. On my first TPY screen it started after maybe 4-6 weeks. On my second TPY Screen it was visible from the beginning. And Lenovo is now silent for four weeks.
-
In the last couple days two users on the Lenovo forums have posted workarounds they say worked for them to at least partially resolve their ghosting issues. Could some of you with image retention try these out and report on whether they worked for you?
I can't figure out how to link directly to the posts so I'll link the pages and quote them here.

My TPY no longer responds to the power button. Somebody please help.
A week ago, I got my TPY with 1TB HDD & 16GB M.2 SSD. It worked fine and satisfactorily.
My only complaint was the rather slow response of the HDD, so I purchased Samsung 840EVO SSD, cloned the HDD to the SSD using Samsung software, replaced the HDD with the SSD, and took the M.2 SSD out. The problem is, after those procedure, TPY does not respond at all to anything I do, including pushing the power button, resetting by the emergency reset button on the back, disconnecting and connecting the ac power adapter, and so forth. I put the HDD and the M.2 SSD back into it, but no change.
I don't think I did anything wrong EXCEPT I forgot to disable the built-in battery before the replacement, which I had to do according to the maintenance manual... Can this be a cause of any fatal problem to the motherboard or something?
Anyone has an idea what I can do before I send it for repair? I appreciate even a tiny hint. Thanks in advance. -
Sounds to me like something got disconnected when you had it open. Double check that all cables are plugged in fully. When I put an EVO in mine back in December I didn't disable the built in battery, so I don't think it would be that.yoshi4 likes this.

Yes, it helps at the beginning. Changing the color-settings reduces the Ghosting. It's not new. See
Severe burn-ins on Helix - Page 10 - Lenovo Community
But since the ghosting is getting worse over time it's just a Problem shift in the future. -
I did quick AC wlan tests with yoga, ac66u and nas. Wlan seems to be quite solid. I was copying large files from nas almost 40 MB/s (see link). Laptop was about 1-2 meters from router. Even in another room door closed and concrete walls speed was around 35 MB/s. That's pretty good! Speed was constant and didn't go up and down. Only when I move the laptop around speed begins fluctuating.
http://i.imgur.com/45JWHTs.jpg
When copying files from yoga to nas speed was between 5-20 MB/s. Average maybe close to 10-13. Now speed was fluctuating a lot. But still pretty good speeds. Maybe there are some settings to play with to get a little more speed and more constant connection.
For comparison, copying files from nas to desktop pc via cat6 cable I'm getting speeds between 60-65 MB/s. I've got quite slow hard drives on both ends so that's limiting the speed. -
I rechecked all cables, and yes, I found the HDD/SSD card - system board connector was pulled very slightly. After it was fully inserted, TPY got back alive. While struggling this issue, I checked the cables and connectors a couple of times, but I think it was so subtle that I missed it.

Did you happen to static shock anything while you had the machine open?
Also, there might of been a slight chance something shorted out due to you not removing the battery, but I doubt this is the case. I think people swap their SSD all the time without disabling/removing the battery. My guess is that you removed or loosened something unknowingly while you were doing the swap. Especially check the battery cable to ensure it is fully connected. I remember when I was swapping my SSD in and out, I remember there was one or two times where the machine wouldn't power on at all, but I am not exactly sure why and how I was able to get it working again, but my suspicion was the battery wasn't fully connected. -
A tad unrelated, but does the ThinkPad Yoga 11 that was announced last month come with digitizer support or is the just the 12.5in model that offers it?
-
It seems I am famous in Method 1
But it could explain why I haven't experienced any ghosting as I have been using the Calibrated ICC profile since the first week of owning the device. It seems the calibrated profile puts the display pixels in a condition that reduces the chance of image retention. Its perfectly possible that the pixels burn in more or less at different calibrations (contrasts, white points and colours) etc. -
I was wondering something along those lines. My TPY arrives tomorrow. I'll run the calibration from method 1 and keep a color cycling screen saver as suggested in method 2 on it.
I do a lot of graphics work, do programs like Photoshop which have rather static grey interfaces burn in faster than other applications? -
Are you sure you aren't talking about the IdeaPad Yoga 11?
None of the IdeaPad Yoga tablets have an active Wacom digitizer. -
If you're talking about this: Lenovo Newsroom | Lenovo Unveils New Rugged ThinkPad Devices Built Strong for Schools
At this point I don't think anyone knows yet. But at that price, it might not be likely. Then again, the Vivotab Note 8 shows Wacom can be had in a relatively cheap device, so who knows. -
Yes, that is the model. Is there a release date for it? I don't see much info about the device on the internet. I ask because the TPY is nearly perfect for me, but I prefer the smaller size of my Yoga RT(but not windows RT and the lack of a digitizer).
-
TBH Its not so much programs that burn in at first, its more the taskbar and the Start icon that become visible when switching back to the Modern interface on a dark-ish colour you can see a burnt in Start icon. I haven't experienced even the slightest of image retention so it really is luck of the draw. But then I have been using this calibration since week one and after 3 months haven't had any issues. I think the calibration is your best bet to help, also it makes the screen nicer to look at, and was done using a Spyder4Pro so if your using Photoshop you will want to use mine or your own calibration over the stock settings.
My usecase is using OneNote and Word ALOT both in lectures and out of so the taskbar is on the screen for hours at a time and still not a sign of image retention.
My Display Power Settings are also the following:
Turn off display after
On battery: 5 Minutes
Plugged in: 10 Minutes
Display brightness:
One battery: 20%
Plugged in: 40%
Dimmed display brightness:
On battery: 10%
Plugged in: 20%
Enable adaptive brightness:
On battery: On
Plugged in: On
p.s. I have re-attached the calibration to this post as the original is buried somewhere within this thread.

I received my TPY today! I must say at first blush I'm absolutely in love. The construction of my TPY is absolutely flawless, calming my fears after reading early pages of this thread when people had gaps where parts joined together. The clicking of the trackpad is obviously designed that way, so I don't mind it as much as some reviewers. I also don't mind the FHD as opposed to QHD. As a touch screen this resolution is barely useable, I can't imagine trying to use Photoshop on a QHD screen.
I installed the calibration profile right away, so didn't notice any difference in the appearance. Perhaps if I'd used it longer and grown accustomed to the default I'd have noticed more of a change. I've also set the taskbar to autohide so hopefully that'll burn in less.
The only trouble I've had so far is with pen input. I highly dislike that doubleclicking by tapping twice with the pen doesn't launch apps. This seems more of a design flaw with Windows 8 than anything about the laptop itself.
I also can't seem to find the Wacom calibration and button configuration app. I installed the Wacom Feel drivers and nothing new seems to have shown up. Where is it? -
Any problems with sounds? Like this: Thinkpad yoga - Sound output quality (clicking sou... - Lenovo Community

I've experienced no sound issues but haven't put it through its paces yet. I'll try some things tonight and see how it does. So far side from not knowing how to find anything in Windows 8, everything seems perfect.
-
That's good. There is a change that some of the issues I have are after all related to the headphone cable. I'll look for a new cable and try it out. Maybe that cable is somehow more sensitive to electric disturbance that is occuring while laptop is in charge.

Looking at picking one of these up. I had the Yoga 2 Pro for a month or so in November/December, but the QHD screen was too much of a pain for the remote desktop things I do, and since I ended up running it at 1920x1080 anyway to make it usable, I returned it and got the Lenovo Helix instead. Love the helix, been using it now for two months, but I picked this over the Thinkpad Yoga because of the true tablet option. But with the heat it produces, I never use it as a true tablet anyway, I just flip it over and lay it flat over the keyboard . So I'm basically using it the same way I used the Yoga 2 Pro, or how I would use a Thinkpad Yoga if I got one. My concern is that I suffered the constant wireless drops on the Yoga 2 Pro, even after I upgraded the wifi card to the AC model. I have the same problem with the Helix, nonstop drops that force me to disable and re-enable the wireless to get connected again. I'm afraid I'll have the same issue with the Thinkpad Yoga... But I will like having a backlit keyboard again, I got used to that with my MacBook Pros I used from 2009 through last November... I also hope the touchpad works better on the Thinkpad Yoga than it does on the Helix...
-
Control Panel, there's the usual Tablet PC option but there is also another one with the Wacom ISD logo. Cannot remember the exact name but that's where the whole configuration options are.
-
I don't know anything about the WiFi issues with the Y2P, but my wireless on the TPY (the dual-band AC model) has been rock solid. Even when the signal is weak (1 bar) I still get a much more solid, speedy connection than I ever had with my previous T400 (not really a fair comparison given the difference of about 6 years, but still). -
Thanks! It was at:
Start > All Programs > Control Panel > Pen Tablet Properties
I'm all set up now, what a splendid and fun machine!

I'm thinking of getting a thinkpad yoga(4GB i5 model). Just got a couple quick questions:
1) I know that the RAM is not user upgradeable, so could that be a problem in the next 2-3 years? I don't do any gaming or any video editing, so would the 4gb be enough for me?
2) I currently have a thinkpad edge 14, do you think the 12.5in screen and the new keyboard are much different? Is the typing experience the same?
thanks -
You should be fine, if budget alllows try and go for 8GB but if your usage isn't gaming or anything heavy other then productivity (office and web browsing) then 4GB is definately enough, hell Windows 8 runs great with only 2GB!
If your going for an SSD as well then the whole occasional pagefile bottleneck is significantly reduced compared to the old hard drive days, I mean RAM is still a lot faster then an SSD but compared to a HDD an SSD is a huge speed bump!
Long story short, you should be fine even in a couple of years.
Cannot help you with number 2 other then to say that the keyboard on this laptop is fantastic and really outshines any laptop I have used or owned in the past. -
Is it just me or does there seem to be no right mouse button on the click pad? Both of the red lines do a left click... Is there a way to change this?
-
Huh, thats not right :s
The top red lines are mainly for use with the trackpoint. 75% of the trackpad is left click whereas 25% of the bottom right corner is right click.
Single finger tap is left click, double finger tap is right click. -
Ah ok, that seems extremely counterintuitive to me, but it functions exactly as you describe so I guess there's nothing wrong with my trackpad. I'm sure glad I bought a mouse and a two button stylus to go with this.
-
Will any of you recommend TPY to a prospective buyer. Is IR/ghosting issue is still present in newer models? I tried Helix but I had to return it due to Heat and Fan Noise. My other option is to get SP2.
-
Why is it counter-intuitive?? I find it functions brilliantly.
You can adjust the Right-click area to whatever size you want, and otherwise it functions very very well. Might take some getting used to if your used to using the buttons on the top of the old trackpads? -
I would recommend it as I personally would still love the machine with some slight IR. The device is just so unique and is really the only thing that does everything that I need. Also I took out the 2 year on-site warranty so I will just replace the panel if I ever see any IR and/or is Lenovo releases a brand new panel without the issues.
Tbh, it depends on whether some IR would bug the hell out of you, I mean its a lottery and its looking to be about 80-90% safe, the stuff you hear on the forums always sounds worse as people who are content usually don't make a forum account to post how content they are so the negatives may be amplified. Only powerusers and those who do a lot of research into things tend to be apart of such forums, OR those who have had a TERRIBLE experience and want to share it etc. -
I know color gamut isn't the best(even compared to the Yoga 11s), but how is the display and colors in real world in terms of editing pictures?
-
I own TPY and I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a very specific need that only TPY can fill. It's not just IR, the overall build quality and stability is just not what it used to be. There are better, thinner, lighter more powerful and higher quality machines out there.
That said - if you MUST have a convertible with a stylus then your only real options (excluding some esoteric Japanese only models) are Helix, TPY, Sony flip and Fujitsu T904. Sony is plasticky, has fan noise problem and VIAO brand was sold off recently, Fujitsu seemed nice on paper, but now that people have started to get it there seems to be a fan noise problem too, plus it's very expensive, Helix uses outdated CPU, has lousy battery life and runs so hot you can fry some bacon on it, TPY - well just flip through this thread.
So, if you absolutely must have a convertible with a stylus - then TPY might be the "lesser of two (or in this case - three) evils" option.ykvishal likes this. -
1) Personally I wouldn't touch 4GB. In fact the actual price difference in BOM for the manufacturer is so small that the only reason they even have 4GB models are for the sake of product differentiation. In theory, you could do with 4GB if you are a very light user, but with 8GB the machine would feel snappier, even with an SSD and if you are running several apps simultaneously - the difference will be even more apparent. Now, it's true that W8 runs fine on 4GB, but nobody guarantees that W9 will do so as well (especially since "standard" memory capacity is rising, so MS might not spend as much time optimizing for lower memory footprint - just take a look at Windows XP - it's much less memory hungry than W8). Additionally, while windows itself might be fine with 4GB - you might want to run an app or two on it from time to time, right? Even "simple" everyday apps can eat up you RAM in no time. Chrome, for example, is a huge memory hog, and if you have CrashPlan backup installed it can easily require a couple of gigs too. Of course YMMV, but to me investing in extra RAM is definitely worth it.
2) Don't have 14" edge, but I'm moving from T400, which is also 14". Personally I can say that in terms of typing I haven't had any problems adjusting or felt any noticeable difference (and TPY's keyboard is just as great), in terms of the screen, however - it is definitely noticeable. 12.5" feels much smaller to me and it's harder to work with. -
I have purchased and used ultrabooks from; Dell (XPS12 and XPS15) , Acer (S7), Samsung (ATIV 9+), Asus (ZENBOOK UX31LA) and Lenovo (X240 and TPY) over the past year and I am still using the TPY. Unfortunately there will always be issues or room for improvement in units but so far the TPY is a good all around unit. I will be getting a couple of T440s units in next week and will see how those stack up. In general with the TPY you get a; small footprint, decent battery life, convertible with digitizer, great bright display , incredible keyboard, good wifi, great hinge durability. The downsides of the TPY are; poor speakers, chance of IR, higher pitched fan noise, limited amount of ports, heavy for its size due to digitizer.

I'm trying to choose between a $999 Samsung ATIV 9 Plus (i5, 4gb ram, 128gb sd)

Been using my TPY for a few months now and loving it. No ghosting issues have yet developed on my model. Heat management is definitely better than the Helix and is generally really good. My fan rarely comes on unless I'm on Skype or doing something with 3D graphics. Even when it gets warm, it is definitely reasonable. I'd say build quality is excellent and solid on my unit.
I actually switched from a Surface Pro 1 to a ThinkPad Yoga. Though the Surface Pro is a great machine in its own right, I discovered that I wanted it to be a laptop, but it was really just a powerful tablet. The Surface Pro lacks a quality keyboard and trackpad, and the screen is smaller. Also since it is a tablet, it is much harder to use in various situations like typing on your lap, using it while sitting in bed, placing it on uneven surfaces, etc. You also cannot adjust the screen angle of the surface to the exact position that you want. The clamshell form factor is just tried and tested and tested and has so many advantages over the tablet form factor when it comes to productivity and use in various situations. If I really wanted a tablet, I'd probably just buy a thin and light windows 8 tablet.ykvishal likes this. -

Finally I got my TP Yoga! I bought from the Microsoft store at a local mall. Earlier posts in this forum were saying none of the yoga models at the MS store have active digitizer. Thanks for the forum user "Sher the Love", I discovered that they carry the digitizer ones now. With student discount (10%), mine came to 989+tax (Canadian dollars). The best deal I was able to get from Lenovo was around 1400 Canadian dollars+tax when they had the spring sale. It's a huge difference! If the configurations on the MS store suit your needs, I'd strongly recommend to buy from them. Mine is this one I believe: Buy Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga Touchscreen 2 in 1, Intel Core i5 - Microsoft Store Canada Online Store. At least the price before discount and the configuration match with the one I bought.
Now I have three questions and I'd be happy if you take the time to reply:
1- I need a mini hdmi to VGA adapter. Does it matter if I buy a cheap one or an expensive one? Any properties I should look for? Any advice for a reasonably priced one?
2- There was a good pen review link somewhere on the forum but I couldn't find it. Can somebody post it again? Another good review also works.
3- I'm looking for a sleeve with handle. Someone suggested this: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00D2CR2S6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AR9L7AIBMR7UD. Any other suggestion?
Thank you! -
Looks like they finally have a "real" answer to the image-retention issue:
Thinkpad Yoga - ghosting / after-image / watermar... - Page 35 - Lenovo Community -
Yes, it's nice to finally get some answers from Mark, however, I wouldn't celebrate just yet - at Dell's XPS12 IR thread there have been announcements of "fixed panel" already, but none of the actual users have reported that the problem was fixed yet.
I guess we'll wait and see. For now I can live with my TPYs IR, so it's not a pressing issue. In fact OneLink Pro dock's problems and hangs after last BIOS update (which was supposed to fix the dock, but didn't) are much more bothersome... -
Hi again,
Has anyone had any issues with sleep/standby? I've had some issues where occasionally the TPY crashes when I put it to sleep and others where the battery will completely drain from 100% overnight on sleep. Does anyone know any tools that can pinpoint troublesome drivers? I feel like I once saw a utility that could identify if a driver was causing the computer to be slow going to sleep, but can't find it anywhere. For what it's worth, I have all of the options on Intel Smart Connect turned off.
Appreciate any help!
