Unless your using it as a pure laptop and not a tablet. Windows 7 sucks for a hybrid device like this. If I were you I would just install start8 or classicshell. Windows 8 is a much improved Windows 7 and in terms of touch it's years ahead!

I was in the store once and I got to compare side by side my TPY with the screen protector, and another not digitizer TPY without the screen protector. I can easily say the difference is VERY minimal. The colors are ever so slightly more saturated on the one without the screen protector, but you'll only notice if you are holding them side by side. I personally prefer the screen protector on because they look almost exactly the same, reduces glare, and protects from scratches.czm2000 likes this.

Thanks soul347.
I definately wouldn't remove it b4 the surface event anyway. I heard they are releasing a surface pro maxi 13 inch on May 20. Just want to make absolutely sure I bought the best digitizer tablet for me that is available at the moment. The event date will coincide with the end of my 2 week return period. I really love using the tpy in stand mode to draw on though, so as long as they don't have 16gb ram, I think the tpy is best.

And I think the Stylus writing experience is a bit better with the protector on all so. Does feel like the tip of the stylus is sliding around d on ice.

Is this the best battery life 14+ inch laptop we will have for a long time?
I think I want this device. I just don't want to get the feeling of "oh darn" when something with 14+ inch screen and even better battery comes out right after.
I feel like two 6 cell batteries and you'll never need to plug in all day. -
This device is 12.5" not 14
It seems other devices have to many trade-offs

Hi Fellow TP Yoga Owners,
I need your help in a small matter: My screen cracked in a fall and I bought a replacement screen to fix it DIY.
In order to deactivate the internal battery in the BIOS, i have to know where this option can be found. As the screen is dead and external monitor does not start during booting there is no way i can see this option right now.
Your help is appreciated (e.g. a photo of the "Power" Options in the BIOS menu)!
Thank you in advance,
Stephen

From the Hardware Manual:
Disabling the built-in battery
Before replacing any FRU, ensure that you have disabled the built-in battery by doing the following:
1. Turn off the computer and disconnect the ac power adapter and all cables from the computer.
2. Turn on the computer. When the ThinkPad logo is displayed, press F1 continuously to enter the
ThinkPad Setup program.
3. Select Config ➙ Power. The Power submenu is displayed.
4. Select Disable built-in battery.
5. Click Yes in the Setup Warning window, then the computer turns off automatically. Wait three to five
minutes to let the computer cool.
The battery will be automatically enabled when the ac power adapter is reconnected to the computer. -
I noticed major touchpad lags and unresponsiveness when surfing web with Firefox. This has been a problem for the whole time I have had this laptop. Today I was pulling my hairs because of this. Opera and IE work much better on this area. Scrolling is fast and smooth and it's responsive. Today I was running out of battery and thought I should plug in AC power. After a while I was wondering why is scrolling so smooth in Firefox. No lags at all. It turned out that lag is MUCH greater on battery than when plugged in. Plugging in fixed the whole problem!
Have you noticed something like this? Does anyone know how to fix this? Is threre a power saving setting for touchpad? I need the touchpad to be lag-free and responsive all the time. I would like to be able to use Firefox most of the time. Opera is not that good yet. Thanks if you can help me! -
I actually have started using Firefox the most with my TPY. Works really well (very smooth) and while the touch friendliness isn't quite as good as IE, it's a lot better than Chrome. I find it also scales much better than Chrome. I still hope that chrome will make a much more touch friendly version of the desktop version, but until then Firefox is my go to browser. Sucks you're having so much trouble with it.

So has Lenovo solved the ghosting and image retention issue I've been hearing? At this point this is the one 2-in-1 that fits all my needs.
-
Nope! No reaction from Lenovo for over 6 weeks now.
-
I re-installed firefox and maybe it's little better now. I guess this problem is in firefox rather than yoga. Not so big deal anyways.
My screen ghosting is definitely getting worse. Now I can clearly see taskbar in start menu on blue background. I hope new displays are coming soon. -
I bought my tpy from Australian lenovo online store. It says 4in1 card reader but mine is definataly only sd card reader... Does anyone else have a 4in1 reader??
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk -
Just SD.

I think the 4 in 1 is just referring to the multiple different formatting standards available to SD cards. For example I have a miniSDXC card in mine using a SD adapter. But I could have used a SD, SDHC etc

Goddammn it, everytime I run into a 2-in-1 I want to buy there seems to be some kind of problem...The Sony Flip series was it but then I heard the ntrig digitizer was not as good as wacom. And now Lenovo has ghosting issues and the company won't acknowledge it? Sersiously?
For you Yoga owners is the ghosting/image retention very bad or is it something you can deal with. I went into the store to check out the Yoga and it looked fine, but this problem seems very widespread -
I bought mine almost a month ago and I have yet to notice any ghosting/image retention yet. This is despite lots of extended use gaming (Europa Universalis 4), watching videos and reading.
Also i agree with the negative comparisons between the Sony flip's ntrig vs the lenovo's waccom. I tried out the Sony in store and I found it HORRIBLE to use. Particularly bad was the palm rejection, it's near nonexistent compared to waccom (lenovo or surface pro) to the point of near unusable for most ways I'd use it. I'm not sure if other ntrigs are better but the Sony one seemed bad overall. My thinkpad yoga on the other hand is the first digitizer equipped device I've actually owned but I'm very happy with it (provided you calibrate well)

I didn't notice the palm rejection stuff but what I hear is it's better for drawing, wacom's I mean
And what's the consensus on bad screens in this forum -
Hi all. I've been read through every page of this thread for some time now and after appreciating everyone's input I've finally decided to chime in.
About a year ago after four years of ownership my mid 07 13" aluminum Macbook's logic board died on me during my sophomore year of college. Since then I've had to make it through using only a glitchy first gen iPad and library computers. I recently found the financial resources to purchase a new computer and began my hunt. As much as I have missed my macbook I have grown accustom to using a capacitive touch pen with "notability" on my iPad for taking notes in class. Despite my iPad's glitches (app crashes, freezing, etc) I have enjoyed the tablet experience for the following reasons:
1) I am a visual learner and can draw diagrams that no keyboard can recreate.
2) I find a tablet less intrusive in class and meetings and it makes procrastinating on Facebook and the internet more difficult than on a laptop.
3) I enjoy the portability.
4) I often purchase e-textbooks and cannot stand reading page after page on a standard laptop.
Despite these wonderful upsides of a tablet, I HATED iOS' limitations when doing real work. I also hated that the iPad would not stand up without an additional stand and found the lack of a keyboard and trackpad frustrating at times.
With these factors in mind, I started my search for a new computer with a convertible in mind. Despite having my iOS devices (gen1 iPad and iPhone 4s) become glitchy over time, and having my macbook cease to successfully update and develop both video out and headphone jack problems, not unlike an abusive ex-girlfriend, I still find Apple products enamoring. My initial reaction was to turn back to the Mac camp, snag a MBP and forgo tablet features. I know that Tim Cook has been quoted saying that convertibles make as much sense as a refrigerator that is also a toaster. While I respect his opinion, I wildly disagree. For this reason I expanded my search to windows devices. I extensively researched my options and because I have been spoiled by apple's design and build quality, the following are my impressions of the competition. The XPS 12 seemed OK but the design is a little Nuevo Riche in my opinion. The Vaio Flip looked lovely online but felt CHEAP in person. I didn't care for the t904's swivel design because I had a similarly designed toshiba in high school and the screen snapped off, proving the weakness of the design. The YP2 seemed nice but I'm just one of those ***h0les who cannot stand a cheap feeling, plastic laptop.
This left me with the TPY, Helix, or going back to Mac. I loved the Yoga but was leaning towards the Helix because I likes the idea of holding a 1.5lb tablet for reading PDFs and Textbooks. I wasn't enamored with Thinkpad's hinge design (and "modesty skirt") or the placement of the headphone jack on the helix. After further research, the heat and noise issues associated with that system turned me off. At this point I made a trip to a Microsoft store near me to demo a TPY. I almost immediately fell in love. After tweaking touchpad settings (removing the deadzones, raising sensitivity, and turning on multitouch) the touchpad functioned precisely as well as any MBP touchpad I've ever used, a tall feat for any PC. Then I typed on the keyboard and was blown away. The feel is just light years beyond any other laptop I've ever used. Then I looked at the gorgeous screen and my heart melted. Yes, there are much better screens on the market. The colors aren't as the VAIO or the MBPR but the colors are accurate enough, the resolution is perfect for 12.5" and the 400nits of brightness make competitive screens look dim and the controversial protective film made it the only screen that didn't suffer from glare in the store. I also loved the yoga functionality. Tent mode is perfect for reading, display mode makes a 12.5" screen seem like a 15" for watching movies, tablet mode allows for note taking, and it should fold anywhere in between when I'm contorted on a couch. My ONLY dislike with the machine was that the screen and base are a hair more flexible than the MBP. I revisited the MBPR a couple of times but ultimately pulled the trigger on a TPY. I anticipate running this computer into the ground so I future proofed it with the i7-4600, 256gb ssd, and 8gb ram. I also invested in the 4year accidental damage because I am rough on my equipment and would have profited from a similar warranty on my Macbook. My order experience was less than perfect. Lenovo estimated two weeks before delivery and then sent me an email a week later telling me that my order would be delayed by up to 3 weeks. Shockingly, they sent me shipping confirmation later that day. I am greatly anticipating using this machine for note taking, movie watching, internet browsing, photo editing, and video editing. I'll be sure to chime in with a more extensive review of my ownership experience after I get my hands on my unit.

I suppose this depends on what you use the laptop for. I use it for school work and typically have 20+ windows open to browsers, Excel, Word, Acrobat, Photoshop. The ghosting hasn't really affected my ability to use the machine, but it is annoying to see the ghosted image whenever I switch to a grey screen (like Photoshop). It's not noticeable on a mostly white screen, like 95% of what I use.
If you do design work and drawing, I can see how the image retention could hinder your work.
I've never used nTrig and this is my first experience with Wacom. Having said that, I wish the accuracy was better as the concept seems simple enough to implement. The Windows 100+ point calibration gets me really decent accuracy with my pen, but Photoshop uses Wacom's sparse 4-point calibration settings which are WAY off on the edges. This is Wacom's fault, not Lenovo. I hear of similar issues on Surface Pros. -
Yeah my work would be mainly school and then drawing/design. You don't draw much? And yeah I've heard about the edge thing...if only Ntrig had the pressure levels and wider app support
-
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Personally I'd say if you don't draw, there are better machines than the TPY. Touch is a gimmick and even then it's way to heavy to use as a pure tablet.
As far as ghosting goes: it definitely seems to be more widespread than the usual lemon or hardware failure, but I don't think it's as widespread as some people might think/say. -
Yeah I really like to draw and want to get back into doing it more. Um lets say I decide to lower my budget...what other machines are you refering to? And I prefer laptop hybrids now over straight up tablets...unless that tablet comes with a good keyboard dock/has optional that doesn't cost half of the tablet itself
-
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I think I wasn't that clear: if I wasn't using the Yoga to draw I'd want something thinner and lighter like a non-touch QHD x1c or a (if they'd release it in the US) non-touch FHD x240. My ideal non-tablet laptop would be a retina MBA 11, but sadly that doesn't exist yet either. -
Finally entered in ThinkPad's family. Very happy and satisfied with my new TPY.
I have just one question, the built quality is very good, but when i push on the left side of the trackpad, near the sign Ultrabook, i heard some squeak. In other points no squeak or creak. Have you had the same experience? Thanks for your help -
Any complains about the screen? Image retention/ghosting?
-
At the moment no image retention/ghosting, I've made two tests ( Retina MBP (rMBP) image-retention test) and no problem at all. The only complain is the one I mentioned, just because the general built quality is very very good.
-
Yeah I have no ghosting... Have had mine for nearly 2 weeks.

I've had my TPY for a couple months now. Still no ghosting, and overall I love the machine.
I am having one issue though, and maybe some of you could help me figure out what to do.
At first, a few weeks after I got it, I started noticing that when it woke from sleep it'd sometimes not have the trackpad or trackpoint. They'd be simply nonfunctional until I put it back to sleep and woke it back up. After a while it got worse, to where I'd have to reboot to get it back. Then one day while in tablet mode I notice that the trackpad was still clickable (it only did this that one time). Shortly after, I'm not sure how long because by this point I'd largely stopped using my touchpad or trackpoint, I noticed that it was nonfunctional altogether.
Rebooting no longer brings it back. Reinstalling the driver no longer brings it back. I'm using the latest driver, initially installed through the Lenovo System Update, and then reinstalled using the driver manually downloaded from the website (same version number, 18.0.7.40).
Any ideas? -
Errmm, have you tried completely removing the driver, then going into device manager and uninstalling the device and check the 'Delete driver for this device' box. Then reboot?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk -
Yes, I have. No change in behavior.
When installed, the device shows up in device manager as ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing Device with a yellow triangle with an exclaimation point. When I open its properties it says:
On the Events tab it says:
When not installed it shows up as a PS/2 mouse
Edit: I just tried installing driver version 18.0.7.34 with no change in behavior. -
Well all I can suggest is a system reset
Otherwise it sounds like a hardware fault and if it continues after system reset then it's definitely hardware.

Has anybody else experienced an issue regarding trackpad settings not sticking upon waking up from sleep of reboots?
If I enable pointer precision in Mouse settings, after reboot or sleep/wake it is unchecked again.
Similarly if I go into Lenovo's actual trackpad utility and increase the pointer speed to max, it's right back in the middle again upon reboot or sleep/wake
Any suggestions? -
Just double checked mine and it retains all settings up sleep or shut down. Odd that its doing that to you.

Unfortunately after two weeks, first problems of image retention appears. Not very annoying, but 4 days ago there weren't. Called the support, they were very kind and told me they'll change the panel, my only concern is if the new panel could be affected with the same problem.
-
Mine ended up going back with the same problem, they replaced the motherboard, had it back to me in less than a week.
-
Had a weird experience with my trackpad yesterday. Worked just fine in the morning, but in the afternoon the click stopped responding. Meaning, I could still move my mouse using the trackpad and the joystick, but when I physically pressed down on the trackpad or when I just softly tap, it would not register the "click" event. I restarted the laptop and the problem persisted.
Luckily, the touch screen still worked, so I could navigated to the device manager and uninstall the UltraNav driver. Upon reboot, the trackpad and click function worked based on the generic synaptics driver, but with a few quirks (soft clicking worked, but physical clicks only responded when I used the upper and lower regions of the trackpad).
Downloaded the Lenovo UltraNav drivers online and re-installed. Everything works like normal again. I'm not sure what happened. Perhaps the original drivers became corrupt, even though I haven't installed any new software or hardware.
On a side note, in line with the image retention issues, do people also notice a "washed out" look when transitioning from dark backgrounds to light backgrounds? Basically, it takes about 3 seconds for the contrast to come back. Somewhat like having your eyes adjust to bright/dark rooms. I find this odd, considering I can play a graphics heavy 1080p video (which looks great, btw) without any noticeable visual problems. -
Well that sucks
I wonder what's going on with mine :s
UPDATE: I completely removed the touchpad drivers, rebooted. Then installed them cleanly and just tested it and so far my settings are being saved correctly!
After several reboots my touchpad settings are still correct so fingers crossed its all fixed
-
Has anybody gotten the Vertical pen calibration to be as good as the Horizontal calibration?
Mine, no matter what always seems slightly off when in portrait mode which is a bit irritating for notes -.-
UPDATE: So I figured out how to get an awesome Portrait calibration.
I don't use really like writing in landscape mode, especially as I only use the digitiser for notes and I don't draw. So I have sacrificed some Landscape accuracy for a perfect portrait calibration. Here is what I did..
1. Go through the registry and remove any linearity data under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\*
* is because you need to go to two different sub-folders. So the first one is \Enum\HID and the second one is \Control\TabletPC
2. Disable AutoRotate!
3. Now that LinearityData and UserLinearityData has been removed, open command prompt as an administrator and enter the following command.
4. Now twist your device to your chosen portrait orientation (REMEMBER THIS ORIENTATION by remembering what side the Star button was, for me it was calibrated with the start button to the left side of the device) and then do the calibration with you pen tilted how it would be if you were using it normally, This allows the device to get a portrait pen calibration including pen tilt.Code:tabcal lincal novalidate XGridPts=0,30,50,150,350,650,945,1240,1540,1740,1840,1890,1919 YGridPts=0,30,50,150,350,630,830,1030,1050,1079
5. Voila! Open up OneNote or another note application, turn AutoRotate back on, flip it into the portrait orientation you used when calibrating and enjoy calibrated portrait perfection
Hope this helps! -
Is anyone experiencing some flickering when your screen displays a large block of grey? I notice it on my desktop PC with an ASUS monitor but it doesn't seem to be as bad.
Is it just one of those things with screens and refresh rates? -
Mine does have a pulsating wave-like quality on occasion, visible on dark backgrounds. It doesn't happen all the time, making it seem like interference. I haven't seen anything like that with any of my other laptops though.
-
Intel's adaptive refresh can cause flickering that's visible to the naked eye (as opposed to video cameras that catch refresh flicker our eyes can't see).
-
Thanks guys for your feedback. Is there any solution to make this better?
-
Can anyone compare (or maybe point me to another thread?) these 2 laptops for me..
I bought the Asus UX 302la but read on the board for that laptop that many people have experienced screen bleeding, warped keyboards, and a fault clickpad.
Other than the Asus, I was also contemplating over the Lenovo Yoga 2 13 with Intel Core i5 4200U Processor 2-in-1 Laptop. What are some pros and cons on the Lenovo? Any repeating issues that most people have?
I tried to search on here but there's over 300 pages on this thread and not even sure if this is where the answer lies.
Thanks! -
