I uninstalled and reinstalled all wifi and bluetooth drivers and also intel connected standby. I still have on average (average over 9 hours in this test session) 0.55 % power draw per hour in sleep. I can see that the computer is sleeping all the time when I check with cmd "powercfg -batteryreport".
13:34:11 Suspended 72 %
22:36:07 Active Battery 67 %
This equals with the 47 Wh battery an average power draw of 0.26 W in sleep (5% / 9h = 0.55, 0.55% x 47Wh = 0.26 Wh over 1 hour = 0.26 W). Isnt that quite high?
To get something to compare against i would appreciate very much if someone could be very kind and charge up their laptop and then put it in sleep and leave it over the night and then posting the result from cmd: "powercfg -batteryreport" =)
Thanks guys!

I just bought a used one, the i7-8gb-256gb w/digitizer config for $999. I'm hoping I didn't overpay
I did just have the Surface Pro 3 to play with and the 4gb Ram seemed limited. I also plan to run some ram heavy apps so I don't think 4gb would cut it at all, especially since I still want to be able to multi-task.
Heat has always been a big concern for me, but I have a T540p with i7-quad and it runs pretty cool, so I'm hoping the Yoga will be good as well. I'd rather have a little more heat and better performance than the other way around. I can always throttle the cpu to control the temp but you can never make it go faster. -
That sounds about right from what i've seen on the outlet price wise. They're between 829 and 879 before tax.
Although I did see a 97-8gb-128gb w/digitizer yesterday for $692.88 O_O. I think it was mispriced and am pretty pissed I missed it lol
They go so fast on here!
Could you give the part number? -
20CD00B1US
It does have the 256gb vs 128gb, so that's a plus. Also I figure the outlet has sales tax (about 9% for me) so that helps close the gap a bit.
$692 for that config is pretty good. Depending on what you're going to do with the machine i5/4gb/128gb would be plenty but sometimes the outlet doesn't seem to charge much of a premium for the higher spec, so get it while you can.
Also, it may have been posted already, but there used to be a way to look up an outlet listing on the lenovo parts page using the model/serial #. That was always recommended to do before ordering to ensure they didn't make an error on the listing. -
Below is the report from my TPY.
After fully charging the battery I closed the lid and pulled the AC plug. When I got home this afternoon I opened the lid and ran a report.
Don't know why it got active at 06:09, at that time I was still asleep myself.

I've been trying for days to get one with a digitizer. haven't been able to yet so i'll take whatever I can get. -
Hi guys,
I am looking to get the Thinkpad Yoga S1 for my girlfriend for college.
Because I am on a budget I am looking at the Lenovo outlet every day. It would be great if you could help me answer some questions.
1. Is 692.88USD a good price for the following config:
* 1080p
* i5-4200U
* 4 GB Ram
* 128 GB SSD
2. Will 4GB be enough for her (she wants to keep it for at least 3 years). Her usage would be office work, watching movies and surf the web
3. How do I know if the item has a digitizer (just to make sure: the digitizer is the pen that can be used with the screen, right?)
Should I also consider the Yoga with a 13inch display? What are the differences between the different yoga 13 inch options?
Thank you very much for your help.
-Seb. -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
1) If you ask me it depends on whether it has the digitizer...
2) For basic productivity, 4GB should be fine.
3) Not sure how it works in the outlet.
This really depends on a) whether you want a digitizer and b) whether you want a ThinkPad. The 13" Yoga line doesn't have a digitizer in any models nor is it a ThinkPad line. Obviously it's also bigger, but I don't think it's that much heavier. -
Did your problem become better after disabling prefetch or have you found a real solution?
Thank you so much for doing that. Your battery drain in sleep is roughly 0.65% per hour which is as bad as mine, mine is 0.55% per hour in sleep, equals roughly a drain of 0.26 W. Don't you guys think this is very high? I mean if the computer is on and not doing anything it can draw as low as 2-3 W. Aren't our new ultrabooks supposed to sleep for 2 weeks or something like that? There must be something wrong. Isn't there anyone who's having an input on this subject?
As a temporary solution I've set mine to go into hibernation after 2hours, in that case I only loose approx 1% of battery life if I'm away from my computer for a prolonged time and I also save it from drinking the battery completely.
Edit: I looked up on lenovo site what they advertise on standby:
"Long Battery Life
The ThinkPad Yoga lets you stay productive over the long haul. With **up to 8 hours of battery life and a 30-day standby you can go all day without recharging."
So I get 7,5days of sleep with my sleep drain and that's nowhere near the "up to 30 days".

Well it took over a week of persistent refreshes, but i finally scored big on the outlet! 8GB + Digitizer for $700!
I'm a little worried about heat with the i7, i was aiming for an i5 or i3 in hopes of it running as cool as possible. also the i7-4500U is pretty much the exact same speed as the i5-4300U.
Anyone else have the i7? does it get warm on the bottom of the laptop?

There is one thing that annoys me. I know the keyboard disables every time I flip it, but it also seems to disable the keyboard every time I turn it to the side (For example so that I view the screen in portrait).
Is this just my computer acting up or is this something I can disable so that the keyboard only disables when I flip it back into tent or tablet mode?
Also, is there any way to configure the functions bound to the F-buttons? I use most of them, but I do miss a play/pause button as I had on my previous ThinkPad, so if I could replace maybe the search on F10 with that.
And I´ve also noticed a lot of flickering on screen on low brightness, noticeable on bright/white backgrounds, any way to solve this? -
Do you use the keyboard or track pad sideways? That's why it disables to avoid accidental presses when handling the device and as far as I know it isn't configurable.
As for the flickering it can be improved by some Intel graphics power saving option. It's a PWM screen, so some flickering is perceptible to certain people whereas others don't notice it at all. -
well after all my complaining, it seems the Yoga is still the best 2-in-1 out there.
Question now is, since I am such a battery person being on the go, how can I ensure my battery lasts longer in terms of wear. I dont want it to start depleting its capacity to where I cannot get 6 hours after 2 months from now. I've heard some battery lose their capacity the more you charge and discharge them.
Since you cannot replace it, any tips on how to make the battery have a longer life -
You have to go through thousands and thousands of cycles before you'll lose any noticeable capacity. The worse thing for a battery is being constantly connected to the AC Adapter but even that won't really cause you any problems unless it's plugged in 100% of the time day after day.
-
When I look at my battery statistics, it started with 47,060 mWh capacity on 2013-12-23. When looking at the battery capacity today it is at 46,590 mWh, so it has lost less than 1% over a period of 6 months.
-
This is 2014. To lose 1 cycle, a battery has to use up a certain amount of mWh. For example, a Thinkpad Yoga with 47,000 mWh battery would need to use 47,000 mWh for it to count as one cycle. You can discharge it 1,000 (down to 98%) and recharge it 47 times before it count as 1 cycle. Most batteries can last for 1,000+ cycles. A laptop plugged in today would not have any effect on the batteries. It is not like your laptop is charging the batteries while the batteries is trying to provide the laptop with power.
-
The battery only lose capacity over time if you use it. It doesn't give a crap about how often you charge or discharge it. My tip: all batteries are replaceable, you just have to open up your notebook.

Hi guys,
Sorry to brake your conversation.
I have a question:
I am looking to buy a Thinkpad Yoga S1 from the outlet. One of the main reasons why I wanted to buy this laptop for my girlfriend's college time is the fact that she can write notes with this pen.
Now I saw in a review, that not all of the S1's have this capability. Some have the digitizer and the pen and some not. I am not sure if I understand that correctly.
So the the screen needs to be digitizer enabled and also there is an extra pen???
How would I know if the offer in the lenovo outlet has those capabilities?
Thanks. -
I happened to have mine on sleep last night, so here are the results:
02:42:45 Suspended 23 % 10,730 mWh
10:57:16 Active Battery 20 % 9,310 mWh

I am fairly certan that if it does not state 'multi touch with digitizer' but only 'multi touch' then it is no a Pen enabled screen. You CANNOT add this feature after the fact.
-
THis is very tricky. VERY VERY TRICKY. I was once in your position and asked the sales rep how I would know because it doesn't seem like any of the Outlet Yogas ever mention pen. He said as long as its FHD (1080p) on their outlet, then its wacom. It might not come with the pen but its wacom. I kind of believed him because on Lenovo the only model without wacom is the non FHD screen
However I have seen 1080p on eBay that said no digitizer pen but I don't know if they mean it doesn't come with a pen or if it doesn't actually have a digitizer. Yeah I got lucky nabbing a cheap one with digitizer and the pen attached off eBay -
Not all 1080P screens include the digitizer. Somewhere in this thread someone posted the display part numbers and what they included. Display. Display + Digitizer. Display + Digitizer + Pen. If you can find that post, you could look up how the part number on lenovo's site and compare to his list.
To get the pen, it will say "UltraNav with Digitizer Pen" in place of "UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)" under pointing device.
Just a heads up, over the past two week they only posted maybe 5-10 a day with a digitizer, and they literally go in under 10 seconds. It took a ton of effort to get one myself. -
So I just bought one from the outlet. It said "ultranav (track point and touchpad). So that means the pen is not included but does my screen have digitizer built in so I could just buy the pen separately? It's a 1920x1080 FHD
-
its not guaranteed. some 1080p do some dont. youd have to look up display part number. chances are no.
-
Darn. How would I have know,
((

For me it was mentioned on the label on the box it came in if I remember correctly, but if you buy it from a store you can always request to just open the box first and look on the computer. You don´t need to take it out of the plastic bag it sits in to see if it has a digitizer or not. If there is a pen it sits in the bottom right corner, and is seen as a red dot. On the non-digitizer one this is just a black plug for the hole. Basically just open the box, take it out, and if there is a red dot/pen in one of the corners you got a digitizer.
_____________________________
I keep having the problem that if I start using the laptop and use touch for a while the pen will not register when I want to change to it and I can´t use the pen until I restart. Anyone familiar with this and know a workaround? -
Well I bought it on the outlet for the $692.88 price. Hoping to get lucky. Do they do returns?
-
I´m assuming it´s some American place, but the easiest way is to just ask them I guess.
Might say on the receipt too, and again depending on which country and if you bought online or in a store returns may or may not be regulated by laws. -
I can confirm that it is possible to get the TPY without the digitizer and still have the FHD display. I have one, and I have tried all my Wacom pens on it, and none of them work.
-
What would be the best way to expand storage? I have 128GB from the start, but since I want some games on it too for when I´m bored or have no work space uses up quite quickly.
As someone said when I asked earlier, the SSD it is delivered with is a 2.5" model, and I want to keep that drive.
So would the best option be to buy a 128GB space, 80MB/s read SD-card and use that, or would it be better to put the money towards an M.2. m-SATA drive?
For speed an m2-drive is better, but I will use it for storing downloads and some games where read speeds isn´t that important. 80MB/s is still better than a lot of mechanical drives.
But from a battery point of view, would an SD card use a lot of power too, or would it be far more power-efficient than an m2-drive? (m2-drives allegedly uses a lot of power)
If the SSD it came with had been a m2 drive I´d just installed a 2.5" mechanical drive, but now I don´t have that option. Benefit of an SD card is that it´s easily removable and cheaper.
Reliability I assume is the same.
But if I get an m2-drive I guess I could partition it and use some of that space as an extra cache since I only have 4GB of RAM.
Any thoughts on what is the best way to upgrade storage, without using an external USB-drive. -
The best way to get fast reliable storage in the TPY is to replace the internal SSD for a larger one. The three main problems with using an SD card are:
1) It does not sit completely flush and may get knocked around, may even get broken, as SD cards are not as well built at the TPY.
2) The SD card will be no where near as fast at random seek and write speeds compared to your internal SSD. It will feel very very slow (almost unusable).
3) Windows don't normally allow you to install to an external drive. You can mount the external drive into a folder, but you need to know how to do that.
SSD prices for 2.5 inch drives are not bad these days and coming down all the time. I really thing your best option is to replace the internal one for a 256 or 512 gb one.
Back when I had a surface pro 1, I had a 64 gb mSD card in to install games onto (Samsung 80mb/s read 45mb/s write one), and it took almost a minute for Civ V to load. -
So I just got this pen: Amazon.com: Fujitsu Digitizer Pen (1 replacement Stylus) T5000: Electronics
And it has two buttons and an eraser up top. My Question is, how can I customize the settings on the pen where one button takes me foward and does the back function. How can I customize and add featutres to the buttons I want and not the default that come with the Wacom Feel driver. I'm think I want one of the buttons in tablet mode to bring out the touch keyboard.
Is it possible to have profiles that you can flip to depending on what type of app your using?.And what is the Wintab driver i hear about all the time. I started using Photoshop CC and I cannot get pressure sensitivity.
And how do I change Windows/One Note settings? I had told One Note earlier I had a one button pen but now obviously I got a two button one.
Actually it doesn't even look like the feel driver is having an effect on how the pen operates.
As for my opinion on that pen. The pen is awesome. It even improved my edge problems with the default Yoga pen. There is very little offset now. 5/5 would buy again. -
So you have installed the Latest Wacom Feel IT driver and it does not help to allow you to customise the extra button? That is how I did it with the last pen enabled tablet I had. Also for anyone else who is looking to get an after market Pen, the one for a pen to improve the accuracy on Wacom enabled tablets, The ones that are most compatible with the new Wacom Feel drivers are:

The hover point is pretty much at the tip of the pen, and not further up. -
Hey guys. Made an impulse buy today at the microsoft store and bought a Thinkpad yoga. I love it except I realized that it has the i7-4500U 1.8ghz cpu instead of the 4600U 2.1ghz . I paid $1499 for it from there. Everything is working great. No bad pixels or anything but am starting to wonder if I should send it back and try to get the newer one with the 4600U. What to you all think? Did I overpay and should I drive all the way back there to return it? I have 30days.

I'm not too happy, it seems something on my TPY is failing. Just had a BSOD and my TPY restarted to bootmanager not detecting the SSD anymore.
After powering down my TPY and powering on again, it booted normally and SSD S.M.A.R.T status seems OK, so would this be a controller problem?

Nvm. It works, I just wish you didn't have to tap the app for the right click function to kick in.
Now I actually want to create profiles and add features like bringing up the on screen keyboard since MS hasn't done a good job of having Windows recognize when you need to insert text. -
I paid 740 for the i7 4500u 8gb ram 128gb ssd on the outlet. If thats an option for you and your willing to spend a few hours or days grabbing one off of it it saves you to s if money. Otherwise its a decent price, but the 4600 is about 20% faster. The new i5 is nearly equal to the old i7 4500u. So you esentially got the current i5 model.
-
Just for the peole that have been asking; Did it come with a digtizer and was it listed that it had a digitizer?
-
And has anybody used NFC on the Yoga yet? I wanted to see if I could transfer some songs over to my Note 2 phone which does have NFC
-
Yes on both accounts. It came with one and was listed as having one.
it'll lis digitizer instead of trackpad under pointing devices if it comes with one. -
Did you replace the drive yourself? This problem has come up a couple of times in this thread and it's usually a loose connection between the disk and motherboard. The drive is connected by these thin ribbon type connectors that can be dislodged.
-
I have the Fugitsu Pen as well, it's the best pen out there with the 2 buttons on the side along with an earser. For customization check out this post:
UPDATED: Wacom Feel IT driver brings radial menu to Surface Pro, Tablet PC â Surface Pro Artist
This is a surface pro site, but all the tech is the same as in the TPY for SP1 and SP2. I don't think you are able to add different profiles per software, like you can do with the non-digitizer tablets though. The radial menu should allow you to put most of the shortcuts you need in there though.
I also use this for a couple extra buttons on screen: Modlock, and how it changed my digital art life -
Has your Yoga a digitizer or do you use the pen with a 'standard' screen? -
No, it's a factory installed SSD.
-
I ordered one from the outlet on impulse, 005x model, and called to see if it had a digitizer. They told me it did not and they told me I could return it after it arrived. I just got the package today and low and behold, the digitizer was there and works like a dream. It was not listed as digitizer, it only said touchpad and trackpoint. I am guessing its somewhat of a crapshoot whether or not it will have one.
-
I ordered the exact same thing from the outlet. I am hoping that I get lucky like you did. I might keep returning it until I get lucky lol.
-
You need the digitizer screen to use any of the wacom pens. There are pens coming out now that dont need the digitizer necessarily, but mainly for apple crap.
