I'm seeing $1429 on BuyDig for the specs I posted above. No tax outside of NJ. So for just a bit more than the outlet, you get 256GB SSD. I haven't been following pricing on the TPY. IIRC, Lenovo's best prices are before release date. Well, long past that. Now I'm sifting through these 380 pages.... Anyone?

I'm seeing a couple units (new and used) with similar/better specs on eBay for a little if you're willing to buy from there... I paid $1150 for mine earlier this year, but it was used. I feel the prices have actually gone down since then, but 8GB + digitizer is just expensive/harder to find.

    Thanks for the tip.

I am just worried for the warranty on those ebay options. I like the idea to have a better warranty than just the 1 year depot warranty.

Also 8GB, 1080p screen and digitizer are a must have.

Is there a refresh of the notebook in sight for the near future?

As long as the unit is still under warranty, which they all should be since it was release less than a year ago unless someone opened up the machine, you can purchase an extended warranty direct from lenovo or from a 3rd party like squaretrade.
I'm pretty sure lenovo offers the extended warranty even to used units as long as its purchased prior to the warranty expiring.
Edit: and is it really worth $400+ for a year of warranty? It doesn't cover accidental and the chances of a component failing within the first year are pretty slim.

Wow, if that is true, that changes some things.

So basically if I got a Lenovo machine from ebay that has still warranty on it, I can add Lenovo extended warranty after market?

How can I verify that, that this is true?

Check with a lenovo rep. They have live chat on there website or you can call them.
The warranty from a 3rd party like squaretrade is a guarantee though.

Wow, I never knew that. I did not know you could purchase the extended warranty after the fact. I just went to Lenovo's site, you plug in your Serial Number from your laptop and it comes up with your warranty coverage (mine is 1 year depot) and then lists out your extended coverage options.

I can go to a 5 year depot for $309
    Add 1YR ADP for $59
    etc, etc.

    This is great.

    Thanks!!

    Edit:
Just ordered the 1YR Onsite + ADP for $79 + tax = $85 total. Not a bad deal since I bought it used and saved a ton on it (got the i7-4600u,8gb,256gb,digitizer, for $999). Even if I decide not to keep laptop the warranty should help the resell value to at least recoup the cost.

You can still extend the warranty cheaply assuming the original warranty wasn't already upgraded... otherwise you have to pay extra.

Just to confirm, did you buy it used from the outlet or from ebay/some other source? I'm almost positive it does not matter either way. also did it extend it 1 year from today, or 1 year from purchase date?

I got my TPY from the outlet today and it came with a pen. I thought that meant that it had a digitizer but when I looked in device manager, I didn't see digitizer listed. I saw the pen listed though.

    So what does that mean?

I purchased it private party, through a forum, not the outlet.

It extended it from original purchase date. I'm okay with that. The fact that you can add ADP *after* the fact is a pretty great feature.

I received an email from Lenovo this morning with Warranty info. You go to the link included in the email, put in the Pin Code/Auth Code from the email and confirm you machine type / serial number and the upgraded warranty is applied. I did that this morning and now a couple of hours later it's showing up when I look up my warranty on their website and it's showing in the Windows 8 App under the Lenovo Support App.

Well if it has a digitizer pen (it does) and said pen works then clearly it does have a digitizer screen regardless of wherever you can find/identify it in device manager.

    Hi guys,

can you help me verify my thinking here?

I am looking for a thinkpad yoga with digitizer on the outlet. It is a bit hard to get the right information on the outlet website if a model has the digitizer or not.

So what I did is just browse ebay, amazon and also put some configurations on the "main" lenovo website together with models that have the digitizer.

That gave me a bunch of model numbers. Can I be ensured now, that those model numbers have the digitizer 100% (even if it is not stated in the Pointing device section on the Outlet website)?

    Thanks.

can anyone write up a quick tutorial on how to get tpfancontrol to work?
I've tried v0.62 to no avail, it can't find any active temp sensors. I've also tried all of the other .62XX made for specific machines and some of them find the sensors but the manual fan control does not seem to work, it just switches back to smart after a fwo seconds, so I guess manual is disabled for these versions.
I also tried the version for the yoga2pro, which finds sensors, and will remain in manual, but again it doesn't appear to be doing anything.
I've updated all drivers straight from lenovo and am fully updated with windows. Bios is also updated to latest version. If you havent updated bios and have it working, let me know what version you are running please =)

    Any help is appreciated!!

Hi Soul347, I'm trying to upgrade the SSD on my thinkpad yoga, and followed the exact instructions you gave on page 252 and 254, however, the box for "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive" is grey. When I used command reagentc.exe/info, it shows the windows RE is disabled and there is no address for windows RE location. I turned the system protection on for windows disk C and the recovery disk after this, but the PC still can't find the recovery environment.

Any suggestion on how to solve this issue? Thank you very much! I apologize if someone already asked this question before.

You could try imaging your install from one drive to another using something like Acronis True image. This is assuming you have an external drive case to use for imaging purposes.

I recommend that you download the latest Product Specifications Reference pdf file from Lenovo. The one on ThinkPad Tablets & Convertibles has all the current Yoga models.

    Product Specifications Reference (PSREF) sheets

The number of different configurations is daunting, but all the info is there. Once you pick model numbers you are interested in, Google searches should return sites where they are sold. In my case, I wanted a 20CD00B1US (i7-4600, 8GB, 256GB SSD, pen, ac) and found the best price at Adorama. When buying it by phone, I was offered a 3-year $2000, depot + ADH insurance package for $149, which seemed like a good deal.

Thank you for the advice. I did this already using the EaseUs Todo Backup as suggested by Soul347. I am sure the recovery disk is cloned as it shows in disk management, but I just can't get the recovery environment working :( :(

After the cloning, the offset is the same with before. Not sure if this is an issue. I think windows 8 still has no idea where the new recovery environment is. :( :(

I had a similar issue to you when I first gone mine (I got mine used), and I just did an image. I am not sure if it really matters if the recovery partition works. I just have Win 8 on a USB stick in case the machine does not boot.

Can anybody tell me how to have the backlit keyboard set to be on when the laptop powers on? I am coming from a Yoga 2 Pro and it would start up with the last backlit keyboard configuration (if it was last on before shutdown or sleep, it would start with it on and if it was off, it would start-up with it off) I have a windows password and do not like to have to press function and space-bar every time the computer wakes or is powered on to enter in my password. Sometimes I am using it in the dark and with one hand etc. if I am in my home theatre, etc etc. This is a big problem with it starting without the backlit keyboard on.

I just purchased from Adorama too. Actually, Buydig has a better price but they don't list the model number, only the specs. In the end, I went with Adorama because I've been purchasing from them longer and shopping through a cash back portal reduced the price difference.

Anyway, I did not see the warranty offer when I checked out online. Is it through Adorama, Lenovo, or third party?

It was through Adorama (on the phone, not online) and is a New Leaf Service Contract. I see now that New Leaf isn't the insurer, Starr Indemnity & Liability Company is. I trust Adorama to be helpful if there's any trouble later concerning the performance of this service. FWIW, I had good international repair service from Lenovo in the past on a ThinkPad that came with a 3-yr Lenovo warranty at no extra cost. It's too bad that the TPY's Lenovo warranty is only for one year.

v.062 was reported working i think but I don't have a tp yoga to try it on yet. Does anyone else have some feedback on this? Running tpfancontrol is a big part of why I am going for a thinkpad. If it doesn't work are there any alternatives that do?

Thanks for sharing. I'm taking delivery tomorrow and still weighing extending the warranty. I charged this purchase to an AMEX so hope that extends some kind of coverage for another year. As for ADH, the TPY had better be tough enough to withstand that! I'm loving the official product videos but haven't see them throw any abuse at the TYP like they have with other models.

So why do laptops turn off at 7% or at percents below 10% before the battery drains to 0%. Is that a Windows safety feature or is it to prolong battery life?

Sometimes I don't want to jack in my laptop while its at 10% when reading cause 10% means 50 extra minutes but when the battery hits 7% it turns off and by the time I turn it on, its already eating two extra percents cutting down battery time.

Anyway to make it only turn when the battery is empty or is this not advisable?

You can customise when Windows warns you and when it shuts off in advanced power options for each power profile. It defaults at 7% = Turn off

If it turns off at 0% does that mean windows loses your session such as in the case of a power loss with desktops?

That works too, just as long as you give it some battery to be able to actually go into hibernation everything will be fine, if 2% works then that's the lowest I would probably go.

Sounds like it's on already, else it'd pan around even when you have the pen close to the screen. I use a method similar to the one here to disable the touch screen while I am drawing:

Guest post: how to disable touch and use a phone for keyboard shortcuts — Surface Pro Artist

Here's some additional info to get this to work on the TPY:

If you are having issues (no devices found, disable failed, etc.) with the first portion of this article on how to disable the touch screen check out this site and download the devcon.exe (i used the 64bit)

    http://delphintipz.blogspot.ca/2012/07/disable-failed-no-devices-disabled.html

Follow his instructions and place it in the Windows/system32/ folder then rerun the script above in administrator. Also make sure you replace the HID\VID03EB&PID8209&MI0 with the value from you device manager. For my Thinkpad Yoga the Device Instance Path was: HID\VID04F3&PID0254&COL01 (Control Panel>Device Manager Double Click HID-compliant touch screen>Details tab> Device Instance Path in the drop down. Full value will be like this: HID\VID04F3&PID_0254&COL01\6&1027ABC9&0&0000 but you only need the info before the second \ )

    Hope this helps :)

Toch with fingers does not work at all when the stylus tip is close enough, so it's nor real palm rejection/detection. I once saw someone enable and disable the touchscreen via double tapping with the finger.

    This is excellent. Thanks!!

I copied my full "DeviceInstancePath" for it to work.

You also DO need to run this as administrator, found a workaround here:

windows - How can I auto-elevate my batch file, so that it requests from UAC admin rights if required? - Stack Overflow

The Answer post has a script that auto invokes admin, at the bottom of the script there is a "cmd /k" line. Just remove that and put the text from the batch file there, that way whenever you double-click the batch file it will run as admin. Saves having to right-click every time :)

This used to be one of my favorite features on my Galaxy Note, they had an option that disabled finger touch whenever the Pen was removed from the silo. Pretty neat feature I thought.

    Great! Thanks for the update.

For the longest time I was using the Tguard ( https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17137175/TGuard.zip) that some of the ArtDock's come with, but it suddenly stopped working after the last Windows update.. It was handy becuase it would only block the touch on the desktop, but leave the menu bar and virtual keyboard touch enabled. I believe you need to be running AutoHotkey_L for this script to work.

Well I think I'm going to part with my Yoga. I have a T540P and having two laptops is too much to juggle keeping files in sync etc. I'm always struggling to decide which one to grab as I head out the door. I know it should always be the Yoga, but I have LTE on my T540P which is really handy.

Anyway, posted it on ebay but wanted to see if anyone had other sites they'd recommend? I've used swappa for cell phone but don't know if there's an equivalent place for laptops??

Thank you so much for this method.
There is also a program to do this...I found this on tabletpcforum by user lblb

    Tray Touch Toggle
This program consists of an icon that sits in the system tray and that allows you to toggle touch on/off. It should work for Windows Vista through Windows 8.1. Just extract the exe file from the zip file anywhere on your computer, and double-click the exe file to launch the program. You can add this program to your Windows Startup menu. The supporting files are installed here: C:\Program Files\Apps for Tablet PC\Tray Touch Toggle 1_0.

As we are using Win 8: There is no universal method (yet!) to toggle touch in Win 8 so this app uses a method that's pretty popular on this forum where you enable/disable the HID device that is responsible for touch input. So before you can use Tray Touch Toggle, once you launch it it will ask you to set it up (you can also access the setup window by right-clicking on the tray icon). The main challenge here is to identify the correct HID device. Just carefully follow the instructions (you may also want to consult the list of known codes that is provided).

Ok...one more artist tip incase you guys didn't see it.
This link is to a post by surfaceproartist where he is talking about the new WACOM drivers just released.
Technically only one for the Asus vivotab has been posted but I installed it on my Thinkpad Yoga and it works a treat. Big improvement over edge callibration...I would never choose NTrig.

So I Just discovered that if I plug something into the USB port on the left side, the headphone port stops working. I was listening to some mildly inappropriate daniel tosh stuff on pandora at work and plugged in my mouse, only to have the headphones give out a minute later, and audio switching back over to the laptop speakers at 100% volume. Kind of embarrassing and definetly could have gotten me in trouble had the wrong person heard.
Its easily reproduceable. plug something in, it switches to laptop speakers, unplug it it switches back to headphones, rinse and repeat..

Anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix?

    That would be terrible.

Mine does not do this. I plugged a wacom tablet in and heard the beeps from the usb device connecting through the headphones and the music kept playing. Unplugged it, heard the disconnect beeps and music kept playing. Did it a couple of times without issue.

Could it be something where the usb device you're plugging in is recognized as an audio device so it's taking over control?
