It was a refurb. A few at that price, with the same specs, kept popping up but i could never add them to my cart. I finally got lucky and nabbed one. The script bots are really annoying on the outlet sites..... the key I found was that expired carts were released on the quarter hour. This is when I would see great deals pop back up only to be snagged almost instantly by bots. I finally beet the bots.....

I got one with identical specs and price on Monday, but it was a scratch and dent (still a really good deal, I thought). Also my first purchase at the Lenovo Outlet. I was trying to nab the refurbished but could never get it in my cart! I only ever saw those two entries with those specs and there was only one in stock of each.

It arrives tomorrow -- I'm curious to see how bad the scratch and dent defect(s) are and if it has the digitizer. It wasn't listed as having one, but people in this thread have said they've gotten it anyway from the outlet.

Just following up on my own post. It's pretty much a new laptop, there might be some minor scratches on the top and bottom only visible in a certain light. No digitizer though. :-(

I saw the same one and almost got it... almost being, I purchased it.... researched, then realized no digitizer and called to cancel the order. In my opinion, the digitizer is the only reason to get the thinkpad yoga.

If you click on the model details link, the pointing device section indicates whether the digitizer is on it. It's not shown on the outlet search page that shows the list of items for sale.

Hi, I'm having a problem with the touchpad two finger scrolling, on the desktop I can control the scrolling direction using the ultranav settings. However, these don't seem to affect the modern apps.

I have noticed that sometimes right after I reboot the controller the scrolling will work in the same direction in both modern and desktop apps and then it switches. I imagine there is an application starting up that causes this so it seems like a conflict of some sort.

    Thanks!

I am also having a problem with the touchpad. But for me it is the double finger tap. It will often not work and I'll have to click down on the touchpad to get the double finger right click option. I have carpel tunnel so this bothers me a bit. Its much better for me to either use the touchscreen or tap the touchpad.

Has anybody has this problem where double finger tap doesn't work all the time?

This is a long-standing issue for many Lenovo laptops. A Lenovo employee has just recently logged this problem on the official Lenovo forums, so hopefully there will be a fix soon. (You might want to subscribe to this thread to keep up on updates:

Hey. I was eyeing the thinkpad yoga. The antiglare touchscreen was the main reason for that. But it seems that there also antismudge touchscreens on some variants? I would also like to know if this model has the pen digitizer. Thing is, I wasnt able to find the model I was looking at on the product reference booklet of lenovo: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/psref463.pdf
    The model: 20CDS01J00: Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga i5 4200U 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 12.5" Touchscreen 2in1 Ultrabook/Tablet Windows 8.1 64-Bit (20CDS01J00) - Newegg.com
The antiglare screen, if absent is a dealbreaker. Also, does its units have ghosting problems like the dell xps 12?

I do not believe that has a digitizer. There are a lot of good deals on the TP Yoga right now, my favorite deals are on eBay at the moment. I believe the Non Digitizer screen is glossy and the Digitizer is traditional Thinkpad Matte.

Does anyone else's Yoga S1 make two clicking noises when putting the screen from tent mode into laptop mode? It makes the noise on the right side close to the hinge, the left side doesn't make any noise.

Picked up a Yoga 14 at Best Buy. I love it so far. I replaced the spinner drive with an SSD. My only two complaints: No way to upgrade beyond 8gb ram, and I have to turn backlighting on after every reboot or wake from sleep. I can't find a way to make it persistent.

Same with the thinkpad yoga s1. Not too concerned about needing more than 8g. Was expecting the keyboard backlight to have a sensor like my Logitech keybiard, just wave my hand and it turns on.

This is kind of a stupid question, but if you buy a new ssd to replace the hardddrive can you install any os on the ssd like windows xp or windows 7? Or are new laptops locked into windows 8 somehow?

Will be getting my thinkpad 14 tomorrow and will definitely replace the hdd with an ssd.

Can't say for sure but it should work. I would definitely do win 7 vs XP to make sure drivers are available for all the latest hardware and chip sets.

As long as the drivers are available, I don't see why it wouldn't work - although you'll have to disable secure boot, and for an older version of Windows like 7 or XP, you'll likely have to switch to legacy BIOS mode. And on that note - I highly doubt you'll find XP drivers for newer equipment like this. 7 shouldn't be a problem though.

just got my thinkpad yoga 14 from best buy WOOT.

    first impressions.
-screen is very nice. rich colors, wide viewing angles, very bright,
    -hdd is slooow... :(.
    -build quality is superb
-the touch screen makes the display heavy, i rather not have the touchscreen.
-keyboard, trackpad, backlight are all excellent
-4.2 pounds is actually not too bad. lighter than i thought. wished it was slightly lighter though like around 3.8-4pounds.
-14 inches is the perfect since.

all around amazing laptop. Haven't found any major issues. will try to throw some games at it. For the price of $1099 it should come with 180gb or 256gb ssd. that would have made it the *perfect* laptop..

    edit: windows 8 -______-

Anyone tried a Thinkpad Yoga 14 with Linux (particularly Debian/Ubuntu/Mint)? Haven't seen much on Linux forums about it, though it looks like the original is working OK.

Any info on a model number 20CDX001US? I googled it and looks like a refurbed unit but not sure. Seller claims it's new not a refurb, still in box but the box is plain brown with no lenovo markings on it. UPS put a label over the sticker on the outside. Looking for exact specs for this model number.

its a combination of HDD and fan. when you are not doing intensive tasks, turn the power options to "power saver" or "balance" and the noise should be very quiet.

I have a Lenovo yoga 2 attached a thinkpad 3.0 dock (the yoga is closed). I have two monitors set up. As I am working on the right hand monitor my mouse will randomly jump to the bottom right corner of the left monitor. It is as if thought it think I am using the touch feature (the writing icon comes up as well). When I am working on the left monitor doing something like typing an email the page will jump and suddenly something else comes up on top and I have to go back and retrieve my email that I was working on. Anyone know what could be causing this? Thank-you!!

    Hey guys!

I just got my TP S1 from the Lenovo Outlet for a smashing deal. I7 4600u, 8GB Ram, 256GB SSD, Intel Dual Band AC+Bluetooth, HD IPS all for $650 including tax. Loving every bit of it! Here are some quick observations that I noticed during my 4 weeks of usage so far:

    • Screen
    • I have not noticed any ghosting or retention (SPB1 panel, no digitizer). Previously owned a X220/X230 IPS which had horrible retention so I would know! Maybe the problem is limited to digitizer models?
    • IPS screen is lovely and bright, but glare oh my! Definitely miss the matte display. Gamma is off, but can be corrected using the Intel IGP Software.
    • Huge bezels!

      [*]Performance
    • Undervolting using Intel XTU helped with battery life and heat. The fan barely turns on during normal usage. I have processor, cache, and GPU stable at -57mV.
    • Samsung SSD is pretty fast, no benchmarks done, but the bump to 256GB is noticeably faster in day to day usage.
    • Framerates in PC games is stable with no throttling. Played Borderlands 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Civilization 4, and Diablo at lower settings @ 30FPS and up.
    • Adobe Premiere does not stutter for me anymore when editing videos with multiple filters!

      [*]Misc.
    • Keyboard is great! A bit less travel compared to my old X230, good spacing and little flex.
    • Magnesium casing is lovely! Machine feels sturdy and cold to the touch.
    • Never thought I would say this, but Lenovo really added bloat to this system. Took me 2 hours to fully clean the system of "useless" programs and windows 8.1 apps. Only software left are System Update and the Solution Center.
    • Speakers are decent, but lacked clarity and loudness. Adjusting the settings in the Dolby software helped somewhat.
    • In Presentation mode, the keys move a bit. It seems that the keys fully lock on full tablet mode only.
    • Grabbed the Microsoft Sculpt Bluetooth mouse for 20 bucks on Amazon. Works great and pairs quickly.
    • Considering the thickness of the laptop, they could have easily fitted it with a full sized HDMI. Why they went with the obscure mini HDMI port is beyond me....

Does anyone still experience scratches due to its pen? I am a student and will be taking notes/notate pdfs, and the only reason i might not consider buying TPY is because of the possible scratches on the screen.

Definitely not had anything like that on mine. I use the Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel as it's a nice size then the built in one and the tip is softer so it feels more natural to write with.

Download Intel XTU (Extreme Tuning Utility)

Then reduce the offset cpu voltage

It's fairly simple process, just a bit time consuming as you need to run many stress tests to make sure the undervolt is stable. The three settings to change are: Dynamic CPU Voltage Offset, Processor Cache Voltage Offset, and Graphics Voltage Offset.

    1. Click the Manual Tuning tab and start at -50mV on all three settings, then run a 10 min stress test to see if it is stable.
    2. If safe, bump it a notch lower and repeat until you BSOD, then you know your undervolt "ceiling" for that setting. Drop it back a bit (if it crashed at -60mV, use -58mV) then run a longer stress test (1 hour).
    3. If it doesn't BSOD, then you are good. However, I would recommend continued monitoring stability across your daily usage (i.e. system restarts, sleep/hibernation mode, unplugging, heavy gaming, etc.). If there are any BSOD or weird system behavior, then you know that you need to bump it back some more.
    4. Remember, the settings do not stick after a reboot. You either need to start the XTU program after booting or disable Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework in the BIOS. I did not disable as I rarely ever reboot the system.
In my experience, mines topped off at -63mV undervolt across the three settings, but I did experience a BSOD when waking from Sleep. I disabled connected standby and bumped it back to -60mV and it was stable. I do recommend doing each individual voltage setting separately, but for the sake of time and simplicity you can set all three together and test.

Undervolting is very YMMV! You've got to test, test, and then test some more. Some can pull -70mV and be stable while others can only do -40mV.

Anybody getting an issue where when using the wacom pens or inking in general, the pen input will disable and you can get any form of input from the pen? This seems to be fixed only if I put the computer the sleep or restart. It is happening more often and it is getting annoying because I am a student and I rely on my thinkpad for notetaking.

Could it be because of the wacom feel driver? I downloaded it but can't even remember why I downloaded it in the first place

Yeah I use the Fujitsu Lifebook pen and I get scratches. Its a very nice pen but I would say avoid it for scratches when using the eraser on top. http://www.amazon.com/Fujitsu-Digit...8&qid=1417730729&sr=1-1&keywords=lifebook+pen
I use it though cause it has two buttons and an eraser on top, again i think the problem is with the eraser on top being a bit too hard for my screen. Can't say much for the pen the laptop comes with because it is too small for extended periods of inking

It doesn't but I use the modern OneNote app so it's very intuitive to select stroke eraser from the radial menu.

I don't like the modern app, the eraser always over erases my ink. It doesn't erase as precise as I want it to unless its because I am erasing with the erasor on top of my pen

And I was wrong, its not the nib itself but the eraser on top of the pen that is causing the scratches. The pen itself is fine, I have adusted my settings to allow one button to be for erasing

It must be because your using the eraser on top because I have no such issues :s

Or maybe you expect a normal eraser and the eraser on the pen automatically enables stroke eraser which removes entire pen strokes at a time?

I find the modern app to be much better for inking as the interface is more usable

    Hi,

Is the LCD part the main difference between the TPY digitizer and non-digitizer one? If yes, the non-digitizer one can be modify to the digitizer one by replacing the lcd screen. Is it correct?

The digitizer could be applied either to the lcd itself or to the glass that is infront of the lcd. Not entirely sure but most likely if you bought the lcd and glass as a package it would work.

Has anyone had any problem with a lot of noise when you start up your Yoga? Sounds like a fan that got bad bearings, but I've tried to stress test the CPU to get some fan action. But nothing similar, thinking about sending it to get repaired. But that would probably take some weeks now in december.

20CDX09400 is confirmed no pen nor digitizer.

Anyone please share more TPY outlet model numbers that have digitizer or do not have one, so that we all can know.

    Thank you

Random but any of y'all know how to change what the alt function keys do? I would like to add play/pause, skip and previous media functions because for some reason Lenovo decided to take it out. I realize now with my phone acting up how awesome it is not to have to go to the music and just skip pause and play from the keyboard. I miss that with my old laptop.

If the Tiny Surface Pro 3 could do it, I don't know why Lenovo decided to remove it and replace it with useless search and app buttons. srsly who uses that when you have easy touch. I am talking about the useless alt features for F10, F11, F12 and F9

If you don't find a way to do it, many music players has hotkeys which can do the same thing.

    Looking for some help.
Just got my tpy i7 version and very happy so far.

Having some issues with the secure boot not allowing clonezilla to run via usb.
I disable it but seems to turn itself back on half way through the boot process of clonezilla.

The usb with the install has been used many times on various machines.

Am I missing a settings to make secure boot off a permanent selection?

    Thanks

Never mind.. Found my answer.. Did turn off optimised defaults but didn't load the defaults once turned off. Once I did that it works as it should.
