Yes it happened again. I just had this for 3 hours. and it freezed 4 times. I used system restore because I asked my relative to buy this from Singapore so they were the one who set it up. But what do you think is the problem? After I used onekey recovery, i wasnt able to test it because the battery was discharged and I need to factory charge it. Is it my drivers that is causing the freezes? I downloaded HWmonitor but my temps were normal. Anybody please?

I haven't tried anything besides the stock drivers because of previous posts of gaming issues mostly revolving around lower fps. I would like to but I'll wait until its confirmed that they are stable for the 555m.

Is the 555m not supported by the latest nVidia drivers? whats with the .inf modding?

Awesome, scores. It seems your "Graphics" is scoring what it should, mine is still sitting at 4.6 after running it 4 times in two days.

I think I'll be getting the Y470 with the i7 and Bluray. It looks like an amazing system.

GTA 4 is a crazy CPU and GPU intensive game. It's one of the few games out there that this computer will have trouble with.

really? Wow, I'm surprised a laptop on a gt540 could handle it! Right click on the program and make sure that it's set to run with the gtx555, there's a chance that it's not switching as you said.

Hey everyone. Im still experiencing freezing in my Y570. I really dont know what to do. I dont know if its a driver issue or not. What do you think? Is it the drivers? Or the bios? I hope its not the bios because I dont know how to flash.

@jpa, This is probably a dumb question but have you set optimus priority ( globaly preferred graphics processor when optimus is on) to the 555m instead of auto through the nvidia control panel? & made sure your power settings were set to high performance?

Yeah....that's Why this is so frustrating. I actually even disabled the intel graphic cards from the control panel. Bad idea lol! The whole screen went blank and I had to restart the computer. However it seems this is an issue that can be fixed by newer driver. I have seen on the other boards that had issue with gt540 but it was solved with updated graphic cards.

P.s. During my quest to play gta4 I updated intel graphics driver and ran windows index thingy. Graphics score went up from 5.7 to 6.7... So now both graphics and gaming graphics are at 6.7

    @ jpa11 and shoeman6

Which driver version did you guys update your Intel graphics to?

My current Intel driver is 8.15.10.2342.

Updated: Upgraded driver version for Intel graphics to 8.15.10.2361. Ran WEI again and still scoring 4.6 for "Graphics".

Ordered 8 GB's of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231265 I'll let you guys know how big the perfomance boost is.

Not to be a pessimist but I wouldn't be surprised if you loose performance. in almost all cases anything over 6gb will not yield any performance increase, and the stock ram is 1333mhz the stick you ordered are 1066mhz.

    I if I we're you I would RMA those sticks without opening them and get this package Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX.

EDIT: on a second note. could someone run a cinebench on the i7 2630qm. i like to get a compilation of scores on multiple y570's before i try tinkering with the intel turbo boost properties. my 570 scores in the range of 4.82-4.91 depending on ambient temps.

Don't order the 1600Mhz RAM. Unless you're running at least a 2720qm processor, it'll automatically downclock to 1333Mhz (it's not supported)

I was about to mention something along those lines too Dj. I upgraded mine to 8gb and found no realistic performance improvement above the 5gb I had installed earlier. With 5gb I can open every single application I have, inc. chrome with 30 different websites, play half life two and team fortress two at full settings watch 3 movies 1 in quicktime, 1 in vlc and 1 in winamp, run a virus scan, (w/o 555m running btw) and still not dip into my paging file at all. aka A ridiculous amount of multitasking. + my cpu starts staggering around like a beast and it can barely handle it.

Even when I put in the 4x4 ram running dual channel I saw really no performance increase and the WEI was the same at 7.4 as the 5 gb set up. (5 gb limited to 1066 by my 1gb ram chip) I do notice an improvement going from 4 to 5 though.

@Dj1001 kind of over kill imo, when you can find good ram for less than half the price.

My suggestion would be to take a stick from your old laptop, or maybe something you have lying around and just use that, or just buy a single 4gb chip and stick that in w/ the existing one.

Edit: I'd also like to add in how cool the system runs, I'm extremely pleased, even with the temps going 90+ I can set my hand near the vents or have the laptop on my lap without it feeling hot.

My only complaints so far would be some build quality quirks, the fact that the max resolution is only x768 and the 555m is a little disappointing.

that might cause lesser performance as well. Ram only runs as fast as your slowest stick. if you only have 4gb and want more I suggest selling the stock 4gb and getting a name brand 2x4GB kit of 1333mhz ram with a CAS latency of 11 or less.

Newegg does not sell any DDR3 PC3-8500 sticks at 1333Mhz. The current stick I have is PC3-8500 clocked at 1333Mhz but 1066 was as close as I could get. I doubt the difference in speed will result in worse performance with 8GB of memory.

This was probably already touched on but remember to download your drivers from the Lenovo Support website not the Intel or Nvidia website. I got the driver from the Intel site and had to reinstall from the Lenovo site because it was causing L4D2 to freeze at the menu. The Nvidia website will tell you to go to the manufacturers website for the driver. Unfortunately, the Nvidia display driver download kept getting interrupted.

I just ordered a y470. When it arrives, should I do a clean Windows install, or are some of the manufacturer features useful?

Also, I haven't had a laptop before. Are they one of those things where you should run down the battery all the way and do a full recharge the first time?

No, those instructions are based on old types of batteries. It's bad for a Li-ion battery to be ran all the way down.

From my experience the 555m only gives a slight improvement over the 3000, I can see the difference in the fps, maybe 10 fps for dragon age two, but it's still a little bit of a let down..

i believe the drivers for the 555m are still in their infancy. the ddr5 version is only in the lenovo as far as I know so it only been on the market for less than a month.

As with all graphics cards it takes months if not close to year for the drivers to squeeze all the performance out of the card.

according to bench marks done by myself and others the gt555m is similar to my desktop 4770 and it can run most game's at 1600x900 with high details with it's mature drivers. I have faith that things will get better.

EDIT: this doesn't mean there is nothing we can do. The current nvidia drivers are a few versions newer than what lenovo is giving us on their site. I believe if we make a push to lenovo's dev team we could get them to release drivers in a more timely manner.

Performance is very temp dependent. In the same room going from a wooden surface to a cheap laptop cooler brought me from 15 fps to 50+ fps in dragon age 2.

    Hey guys, I'm using Clonezilla to image the factory install before doing a clean install of Win7, after taking a look at this guide TUTORIAL: Windows 7 Clean Install on Lenovo Y550P ... - Lenovo Community , I have a quick question;

    When I select the partitions to save, I see the following;

    sda1: 210MB
    sda2: 453GB
    sda4: 15.8GB
    sda5: 31.1GB

The guide says to select sda1 & sda2, but I'm thinking I need to save the additional selections as well, considering one of them has got to be the Lenovo D: drive. Any thoughts/ideas?

    Thanks!

I have been having a hard time finding a sleeve that fits my Y470 very well. Any ideas? I noticed that Lenovo sent me an ad for accessories and it had a sleeve that matched my notebook but I haven't been able to find it on there site.

edit: I think that sleeve is actually for the u350.

Sorry to hear that the laptop didn't work out for you. I've really been enjoying my y570. The build quality is great and I've been getting excellent performance. That said, I haven't had any of the issues that some of the other owners have complained about (head phone jack, screen hinge, etc.) and would be disappointed if I had. Hopefully you'll be happier with your next laptop.
