I am in the same boat as you. Was waiting for the AS4830TG but the throttling and integrated battery have me worried as well. I am looking to order the Y470/Y570 with Blu Ray + 750GB HDD for $919 with 20% off coupon. I also plan on replacing mine with an SSD. But I will probably sell my 750GB.

I think it would depend on what your needs are. If you want the space and do not need the ODD then go with the ODD conversion kit. Assuming the ODD is on a Sata 6 port for the Y470 (it should be) the ODD kit will be more portable and faster than the USB enclosure.

I like an ODD. I use one infrequently but it is convenient to have. Out of curiousity, why get the Blu Ray option if you are then going to replace it? You know the DVD drive is the Blu Ray / DVD combo drive?

Have you 2 considered going with an mSATA SSD? That would allow you to keep both the optical drive and the HDD already installed, and forgo a caddy. Installation seems painless, and the drives can hold up to 128GB now.

I am having the same issue when using my Sennheiser HD 202s. It only happens when headphones are plugged in, hopefully it's only a driver issue but I read it could be due to components being too close together which would be hard to fix.

hey guys i've a quick question

i am very strongly considering getting a Y470 right now...

ok, i lied, i have more than one question...

firstly, the way that the sale prices are on lenovos site right now...it would actually cost me about 90 dollars more after a coupon to get the same model with 500GB 7200rpm HD and no blueray (to be fair, i dont forsee watching bluerays...) as it would for 750GB 5400rpm with blueray. Honest opinion: is the performance difference worth it?

Also, i'm debating between this and a dv6t...at this point, the screen resolution is my main hangup, in that i can get a 1080dpi with the other, but also battery life...to be fair, its not much a difference on 6 cell, but i have the option of getting an oversize 9 cell from HP that would make it have like 4-5 hours more battery than the Y470.... how much battery do you guys get on average? do you know if theres any chance of lenovo selling a larger cell/oversized battery at any future point?

lastly, how do you like yours, Really? any major complaints? how is the build quality? did it meet expectations? i'm having trouble finding any real reviews for this model since its so new, so any feedback will be very much appreciated.

also, i never owned a lenovo before. how is tech support if theres an issue as compared to other major manufacturers?

Cassandra022- The difference between 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm hard drives is very slight, even unnoticeable to some. Hard drives are user replaceable and you could always upgrade in the future if you weren't satisfied with the speed.

As for technical support; It's hit or miss just like other companies as every employee is different, thus resulting in positive or negative feedback. As a whole they're not too bad.

This. You can get a 40gb or 80gb Intel 310 SSD that will fit in the mSata slot on the system. Without removing anything else.

    YouTube - ‪Lenovo y570 Ram Upgrade and Overview (English)‬‏

    Uploaded another video.

After monitoring cpu for a bit, max temp I've gotten for it is 93.

Btw I have the same audio issue with my headphones when nothings playing through them, might be because of the internals, because I can here the static change as I scroll. Not having any real crackling but there's a lot of fizzing.

I find it kind of amazing that there is still not a single unboxing or review video for the y470. Theres a few for the 570 so it would of been nice to be able to compare the two.

I am still waiting on my order for the y570 that seemed to have been delayed forever lol.. This wait has given me some time to consider if I should of got a y470 instead since same resolution and the video card does not seem to be leaps and bounds greater (and y470 being lighter)

i think the y570 is pretty ligght actually, i can hold it in one hand and use it, (like right now) for quite a while if i had to :). I usually zoom out on web pages anyways so I do get use out of the etra screen real estate. (can zoom out more and still see what's there)

You're going to love your y570 (when it comes...) :p

I hope so. I been so use to my 14inch asus I been using for a couple years. I think the y570 and my 14inch asus weigh the same LOL but the y570 is obviously wider.. and I wonder how that will be. I have a tendency to use my laptop laying on my bed with the laptop on my lap. Hopefully it will be as comfortable as this asus has been.

So how do you guys like the Y470?
And specifically, is it easy to carry around? Is the screen decent? How is the battery life? And finally, does it look nice?

    I'm thinking of getting the 085526U, with i7-2630QM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M 1GB, 8 GB, 750GB 5400, Blu-ray.
The super-fast boot requires buying a separate SSD, right?

    Thanks for your help.

The mSATA option looks attractive, but I already have a 128gb 2.5 inch sata 2 drive that Ive been using in my desktop that I would transfer over. I got the Blu Ray kind of on a whim because that particular set up was on sale that day, figure maybe it can help future proof it in case I actually buy a bluray disc one day. It is convenient though to be able to throw the odd DVD in. I wonder what the weight/battery calculations involved are - I'm guessing either option (replacing ODD or HDD with SSD) has little effect. Thought: could I put the ODD in some kind of USB caddy to plug in when I want? If it could be converted to an external bluray player that might be the best option.

Edit: found an example of an external sata optical drive enclosure. Reviews claim it works with bluray drives. I'll probably order it and let you know how it goes.

Hi, I am a student who will begoing to college this fall. And for my first laptop I ordered lenovo y470 for 700 (with 2 year warranty) with I-3.

When I ordered it the esd was june 22 but it soon changed to june 27 is it normal?
I read 40 something page and did lots of research and a lot of people had this problems.
I did not change anything other than warranty.
Does it usually take that long? How long does it usually take?

I am in hurry because im moving on july 13....

was originally going to order dell xps15 but lenovo had betteeer spec
And cheaper.:/ ( also heard lenovo is reliable than dell...i hope I made the right choice.

Excuse my typos, I'm writing this from my phone.

mine shipped a week earlier than expected ship date - i wouldnt assume this is typical. they ship from china and take about a week to arrive from ship date. i couldnt live without a laptop until it arrived, so i purchased a netbook off of cl, and the laptop, and it was still much cheaper than buying a notebook with similar specs from another manufacturer.

Has anyone figured out why the Y570 scores a WEI of 4.7 while the Y470 scores a 5.7? They both use the same Intel i5 2410m, 4GB RAM but I'm unsure if speeds are different. They both use the same integrated graphics from the i5. The 555m should be slightly more powerful than the 550m. My wifes Y470 has the 7200RPM hard drive so its not suprising hers scored better there.

    Y570
    Processor: 6.9
    Memory: 7.1
    Graphics: 4.7
    Gaming Graphics: 6.7
    Primary Hard disk: 5.8

    Y470
    Processor: 6.9
    Memory: 7.4
    Graphics: 5.7
    Gaming Graphics: 6.7

The only difference in peformance is she may get a few more fps during gaming. I haven't noticed a significant difference in the games we both play. We really only play Left 4 Dead together and both systems max the game out with no issue. I haven't benchmarked them together besides the WEI check and L4D.

@ ekokinex try running it a few more times, when i first got mine I was scoring a 3.7, now i'm at 5.8 (WEI can be weird sometimes).

    Here's my WEI right now.

    Y570
    Processor: 6.9
    Memory: 7.3
    Graphics: 5.8
    Gaming Graphics: 6.7
    Primary Hard disk: 5.9

    WEI = 5.8

    on my

    Lenovo Ideapad Y-570
    2.3 GHz Core i5-2410m
    5GB DDR3
    500GB HDD
    Nvidia Geforce GT 555m

BTW, the WEI doesnt use the optimus chipset to calculate (and I haven't tried it yet) so in theory the scores of the y570 and y470 should be exactly the same as they have the same hardware.

Edit: one thing to keep in mind is that the y470 comes with 2 2gb sticks while the 570 has a single 4gb stick, performance wouldnt be that drastically different though.

Honestly the 555m vs 550m is coming off as a bit of a gimmick now... a little dissapointed about some benchmarks, but it does preform very well w/ my games.. :)

im debating selling off my 570 and getting an m14x. i'd like to think that drivers will make everything better but the fact is the 555m in the 570 just doesn't have the same power as the ddr3 versions. it's just a fancy GT540m. and the sound crackling is bothering me because it is amplified through my speakers.

I'm very pleased with these results, I'm using cinebench 11.5, simply because it's a fast quick and convenient way for my to analyze the effect of overclocking. Right now, I'm at 820Mhz with a peak of 81 C still. Interestingly at the base 752 it beaked at 84 C.

The highest I got the base 753 to bench is at 28.6, and right now my 820 is benching about 30.1.

I've read some people got all the way maxed on the 550m and still had good stability. I'll keep pushing it.

Heaven11 bench went from 417 to a 463 (18.4 [this is actually higher than the notebookcheck bench for the ddr3 555m]) with a modest overclock of the gpu. You can probably find more stable settings, adjusting the memory clock, but I just wantedto take a quick look at how it does.

Stock gpu seems to be benching somewhere in between the 550m and the ddr3 versions. of the 555m consistently.

Hey nice! I will be getting my Y570 a few hours from now and Im pretty pumped. :D What did you use to overclock? Do you only adjust the core clock? If you dont mind, when you finish testing, can you post your final overclock that you will be using? Thanks!

Did some of you try the 270.61 graphic driver? I just read from some thai site that some of them use that driver. the one from Laptopvideo2go.

I just got my Y570 and I love it. But for some reason it freezes. It happened 3 times already. What do you think is causing this?

freezes? I havent had any problem with freezing, For overclocking you can't really go wrong with MSI afterburner. It should be possible to update the drivers but I believe we'd need a modified .inf file to do it. I'm not sure if we can just use the same modified one that they use for the m14x or something, if someone knows more and can shed more light on that aspect....
